Ryuk says that nobody has been able to write his name in the Death Note, several times says that previous owners have only been able to write two of the four letters that make up his name, but when Ligth is reading the rules, the phrase "Ryuk is not to be trusted" is clearly seen.
Correction - Ryuk is referring to someone writing his name to be killed, since what we saw was just a warning this is why the writer wasn't killed before he/she could finish.
Near the end of the closing credits, Ryuk can be heard laughing.
