I saw the film with subtitles as that helped me to understand the language well. Well, below is my understanding of the narration ( Read this after you have seen the movie)

FYI - Meaning of Construct - an idea or theory containing various conceptual elements, typically one considered to be subjective and not based on empirical evidence.

    1) The first scene is important, Gynaec clearly says deepthi that she is undergoing a treatment for some ailment (possibly psychological/mental disturbance issues) and she should try to be happy and not fret over things. Neither does deepthi have a recollection of her last periods nor Deepthi seems very happy about her pregnancy as well. She tries to call Anoop, he does not pick up. We ( the viewers) can see on her call list that she had recently spoken to her Dad and also Shelby ( Anoops business partner)

    2) The second sequence of deepthi -anoops slow-mo, No dialogue fight is a actually the Directors Construct of the story. He is setting up a pretext that there is disharmony between the couple and they are having a fight. You can see from this slow-mo fight that deepthi is the one who is more aggressive and gets into a rage of fit and starts throwing plates, glass, decorative pieces on the floor. She is clearly exhibiting psychotic behaviour. We as a viewer assume that she is very very angry and justify her actions. The fight leads to deepthis head getting smashed into a glass frame of their photo. That is when the camera pans in on the broken frame of the couple. The couples picture is of Deepthis head "over" Anoops head. The name of the film shows up as "LOVE" . What ensues now has nothing to do with Love. It is a deception. This is the end of "Directors Construct".

    3) As deepthis head smashes the glass frame, its shown that she is dead. As a viewer it is shocking and disbelief that someone could die instantly with head smashing on a glass photo frame. One could get injured surely but die instantly ? This is where "Depthi's Construct" starts. This is the part were Deepthi is imagining sequence of events while she is deconstructing Anoops character personality. And this is the main deception in the narration. For the viewer it feels that this part starts Anoops Construct, which is incorrect. "Deepthis construct" is happening on her travel from hospital to her home. In this "Deepthis construct" she imagines her husband to be a person who consumes premium scotch in day time, lack of cleanliness( dirty plates in kitchen, strewn glass and artifacts on floor) ; cheats with another married women and lies to her; has heavy loss in business, has suicidal tendencies; has a violent streak; has zero business sense; pusillanimous ( allows his business partner to sleep with his wife); inspite of all tribulations he happily plays video games at home. So she is imagining her husband with all such shortcomings which are showcased (mental projections) by the two actors Gokul and Sudhi. She is imaging that her husband would not blink a eye ( reference to regular closeup shots of his eye) before killing her ruthlessly. In this Construct it is shown that her eyes are always open and looking at Anoop constantly even though she is a corpse now. This symbolises it is actually her vision of things happening. She also imagines that her husband is so stupid that he checks youtube video to see how to dispose a human corpse. She keeps herself in high regard in her CONSTRUCT where she is imagining the other women (Anoops/ Sudhi's girlfriend) is praising deepthi of her intelligence and talent( looking at all the awards in the bedroom which deepthi received) . If it was Anoops construct he would not imagine his mistress/ girlfriend praising deepthi unnecessarily.

    4) Deepthis fathers entry scene. The scene were both Deepthis father and Anoop are "sitting" and talking, this is a real event. That means her father comes home and has a cordial discussion. Her father hints that deepthi has been anxious about something and has informed her mother. He seems like a father who is concerned about her daughter conditon (possibly mental) and the effect on her marriage to anoop. But Anoop says he will manage it and that is the actual end of the real conversation and real event. The next scene where they both get up and talk and deepthis father slapping Anoop is actually "Deepthis Construct" , her mental projection of her "protective" dad teaching a lesson to her a "wicked" husband. In deepthis construct she also imagines Haritha calling Anoop and talking about their relationship.

    5) Pre-climax : Deepthi's actual entry to the house from her visit to hospital, she immediately confronts Anoop about lack of Cleanliness (dirty dishes), about his poor business sense; his cheating with other women and getting women to their bedroom. Here, as a viewer we understand that deepthi did not inform Anoop that she went to hospital and Anoop seems normally happy to know about pregnancy and he proposes a celebration as well. Deepthi does not seem to be upbeat about her pregnancy. But deepthi continues with her suspicion and she claims she has snapshot of his conversation with the other women and also call records! Anoop says these are events of the past. At this point, Anoop clearly says that if she could hack and get into his phone while he was sleeping, she could also KILL him anytime! Saying this he plans to storm out of the house as he cannot take the nagging anymore. She physically confronts Anoop, at this point Anoop looses temper and hits her with a clothes iron on the left cheek. At this point, again the viewers assume that deepthi is dead. This is the point the fight goes out of hand and deepthi cuts Anoops throat with a knife. Earlier in deepthi's construct she has always mentally projected about killing a human being with knife (Gokuls projection).

    6. Deepthi is stopped by police car and she is found with Anoops body in the car trunk and she is as much in a shock and zombie like state in a disbeleif that she has killed her own husband because of her overthinking, suspicious behaviour. It underlines the fact that she has some psychologial problem for which she was undergoing treatment at the hospital ( as mentioned by the gynaec in first scene). Also she has a wound on the left cheek by the clothes iron hit by anoop. 7. Was there Love in the relationship, yes, it is evident from the many photos of the couple in their house. Plus anoop is shown caring towards her in pre-climax. Yes there is a 8 week pregnancy borne out of love between the couple. Whose child is she carrying? Anoops or Shelbys? We can see that she was in touch with Shelby ( as per her call list scene) but that is inconclusive to say about the father of the child. But the main context of the story is not exactly Love it is deception.

For a story to be shot during pandemic with minimal resources, this is an excellent effort and some deep thinking.
  • Movie was really good ,nice experience. Climax really confused me n took lot of time to digest it. So it affected my feel about the movie.
  • Wonderfully scripted. It keeps you on the edge and uncomfortable throughout. All the elements that you feel as inconsistent plot holes are washed away by the twist in the pre-climax. The final twist adds to the entertainment value but doesn't contribute much to the plot. You will be forced to play back the whole movie in your mind to cross check plot inconsistencies and you won't find any (at least not any significant ones).

The normalization of domestic violence, alcoholism (and induced altered states of mind), adultery etc. are all quite disturbing and makes this movie unfit for seekers of mild entertainment. It is a heavy movie and doesn't leave you with a "pleasant" feeling. It's only for those who like to obsess over storylines and plots.

The performances are good by most standards but I feel the movie would have been a better one if we had a more capable cast.Overall, it's a great movie for those who enjoy tight well written scripts.

We well know the cult of directors in International Cinema, movie enthusiasts place high expectations on the output of the directors rather than the celebrities. In India, this 'cult of directors' is very rare because of the 'larger than life' heroes that the industry has produced. There are certain industries where there have been shifts in this trend, and the Malayalam industry would certainly be the top contender in that list. Among the names of the consistent and creative directors, Khalid Rahman finds his spot with his latest outing 'Love'. With each passing movie, Khalid Rahman is becoming a master of the art. In this movie, his writing is astonishing with the character's that he brings in, and the pinch of confusion that he sprinkles hither and tither. Jimshi Khalid, who previously handled camera's for Khalid's movies, has done a pretty good job. The subtle yet haunting music by Neha-Yakzin is yet another factor to be appreciated. Shine Tom Chacko is the guy who can do any character given to him. With each passing movie, he is proving his versatility, and Rajisha Vijayan too gets her work done well towards the end.

In 'Love', if it weren't for the brilliant writing and performance from the cast, it wouldn't have worked. I would recommend this one because of the quality of content in it. Also, I would love to have director's ditching the 'Interval' for movies within the runtime of 90 minutes.
  • I did not expect much from this, but I have to admit I was proven wrong. Every scene kept my attention, and though the ending is too ambiguous to hold any real meaning, I'm still glad I went ahead and watched the whole thing.
  • RATED 7/10 Language: Malayalam Source: Netflix

Good thriller with very open ended climax...it has its own dark psychological angle of marriage relationship and presented in very good way... But the very open ended climax not giving the completeness of the movie...
  • Intriguing cinematic experience Brilliant performances Provacative narative Crispy Cuts Striking frames Haunting scores💓
  • A minimalist, lockdown effort from Khalid Rahman, Love looks at marital discord through multiple layers and lenses. The film is neatly shot and edited (with a run-time of 85 minutes) and includes a couple of memorable performances from Gokulan and Sudhi Koppa (you might wonder why these names, if you haven't watched it). While it's unfair to divulge details regarding the plot, it makes sense to know that you're in for a psychological thriller sprinkled with occasional dark humour. I liked Khalid Rahman's approach of delving deeper into a person's mind before, during, and after they make unfavourable decisions. More than giving you a better perspective, it subtly fights social conditioning. There's also a winning scene featuring director Johny Antony which entirely works given its context, and an intriguing final stretch (where Rajisha is in top form) that leaves you astounded.
  • I have rewatched movies immediately after finishing sometimes. Like the classic Hollywood movie Memento, this movie will make you think and analyze scene by scene. Great work! A masterpiece!

Mullholland Drive remastered version. Also Imaginary characters are also a hallmark in psyche thrillers, making the film kind of predictable.

I watched Love on Netflix. In orig. Malayalam w/Eng. Subs.

This is an intense film woven around an unhappily married couple's heated argument going terribly wrong, with significant side plots.

On the face of it, Anoop the husband (Shine Tom Chacko) ends up killing his wife Deepthi (Rajitha Vijayan) after a full blown fight. While he comes to terms with the murder and tries to figure out how to deal with his wife's body, not to mention everything going forward, his suicidal friend (Gokulan) pops in with his own lamentation against his spouse who is cheating on him and his business with his business partner Shelby. Another friend (Sudhi Koppa) also turns up .. girlfriend in tow, to make use of Anoop's spare bedroom! He also has his share of grievances against his wife etc. Eventually Anoop tells them he has murdered Deepthi and shows them the body.

Gokulan says they will implicate Shelby for Deepthi's murder and quite literally 'Kill" Two Birds With One Stone.

The twists and turns and a hell of a lot of confusion starts now.

Cut straight to the last frames when a bruised Deepthi is shown driving Anoop's car and gets stopped at a police check post. She confesses to having killed her husband. Lo and behold, his body is in the trunk!

Now, I admit to fast forwarding through some frames but not that I missed much and I was certainly confused as to how the tables seemed completely turned to the reality. Hence 7/10 as otherwise, the cinematography, acting, dialogues, sets etc are very real, a bit too real for comfort.

The weird ending is left for the viewer to figure out for himself.

Curious and confused, I duly Googled and I found a half baked explanation of sorts under: Love Movie Ending Explained: Decoding the Confusing, Complicated Climax of Shine Tom Chacko, Rajisha Vijayan's Malayalam Film on Netflix ....

Summary: WEIRD ending to an otherwise well made film.

Incidentally I loved the outstanding film UNDA , same director.
  • The movie holds on till end. But climax was a total disaster.

Director tried to be a Nolan, but ended up as a mouse.

I cracked my mind big which i understood lately after reading a viewer comment on entire plot here. This was a diffcult one for me to catch upon. Very deep thinking by the makers. Fresh faces for me, was on edge all the time.
  • Love I would literally say 10/10. Yeah, hear me out. This is the first movie I watched without watching teaser/trailer. The Indian Express had rated this movie 4/5 and called it A clever Hitchcockian Puzzle

This literally defines. This movie is a black-comedy thriller movie, one of its kind and fresh in town. Running time 1 hr. 30 mins, this movie literally grips you tight to your seat, and you would walk out having experienced something new. Yeah, it's not a mass entertainer, but I highly recommend you to watch it in theatres, before people start spoiling the fun for you. -D. R. Adinath.

Why Khalid Rahman can make cult movies like "Fight Club"? Is the movie about Love? No Is the movie about Multiple Personality Disorder? Partially No Is the movie about domestic abuse? Partially Yes Is a movie for Goosebump Fans? No, It requires dream and painting interpretations. I believe the core theme of the movie is "The Clueless life of Irresponsible Charmer" There are 2 props that will help us to understand the movie. 1) "Horse with Bleeding eyes" Painting. Bleeding eyes represents means you are enduring a loss of self-confidence. You have dark thoughts. You have an issue making choices. 2) Falling Walls in Bathroom In a dream, a bathroom represents impurities or sufferings and distress caused by women. falling wall means something is crumbling and spoiling in your real life. You have received information during your day's waking reality, that this is going to happen. After this dream, Anoop has decided to commit suicide. Khalid is able to provide a brilliant characterisation of Anoop(Shine Tom Chacko) . The film belongs to Shine. He was able to convey the positive and negative traits of Anoop through dialogue interpretation, split personalities.props.painting and imagination. Anoop's characterisation stands for laziness, instant Gratification, poor financial management and overthinking. Jumps from relationship to relationship, business to business for Instant Gratification. And the core issue between Anoop and Deepthi is his lack of financial management. Deepthi has an issue with Anoop's "Husband" role. Then why Deepthi loved Anoop? He is a charmer, romantic, good in bed and basically a "Lover". Khalid and writer Noufal deserves 4/5 ratings for brilliant characterisation.

Full of kilikals🤡🦋🦋... Vallaatha director brilliance
  • I never seen any malayalam movie with this diffrent concept which let you watch movie again to make you understand. Yes it might influenced from international movies but director should get an appreciation for what he has showcased. Brilliant peice of work! Each points were detailed. Will be having few issues but it will neglected while the end. It is some what similar to Nolan movies which is quite diffrent from other malayalam movie. Overall a movie with fantastic concept.
  • You will, in all probability, develop an interest towards this course of study called Love. Like any course, at the beginning, it demands patience and at times, you may have to grind through the puzzling basics to fully comprehend the staggering depth of the subject and the immense satisfaction that it bestows upon completion. Kudos to Khalid Rahman for racking his brain and delivering a delightful experience!

The character development and actions is very well . Also the cinematography peak level. Just few characters only involved but the presence very welll. And the climax make you fan of this film.
  • Love, directed by Khalid Rahman, is about marital discord and domestic violence presented in the form a psychological thriller. It has a fast pace and keeps you glued to screen with a fairly well-written script. But its conclusion will be a bit hard to accept for most viewers with the director, obviously, aiming to give a surprise twist. The director, it seems, has taken a convenient way from a complex problem of finding a satisfactory end to the nicely built-up drama. But do watch it for its pace and excellent narration. Shine Tom Chacko and Rajisha Vijayan give powerful performances.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Pretty smartly done twisted, psychological thriller from India, comes with limited set up & cast.

Liked the way the director started & maintained the whole dilemma of what's real & imagination by only hiding the actual murder scene. A promising effort by Khalid Rahman. I think the same movie would get lots of attention & praise if it came out from Hollywood or Europe.

    Good in terms of thriller.

Failed to show up few characters and story connections.
  • Love aspires to confuse you and then hold you in a state of wonder as you slowly realize what's going in between this couple (played by Shine Tom Chacko and Rajisha Vijayan), living in an apartment in a highrise and fighting both personal and interpersonal problems with a touch of violence and sociopathy. I would recommend you to give rapt attention to this 90-minute mindboggling piece of cinema that should be celebrated for its novelty, plot, technical charm, and wicked performances (including by Gokulan). Grade C.
  • The entire movie takes place within a house and poor performance from the lead actor makes it a boring movie. The plot is actually a man stuck between his good and vice. It eventually affects others and the final reveal is not that surprising. But, nevertheless it is an interesting take on relationship.
