If you’re from out of town (or even a New Yorker who normally avoids the theatre district like the plague), securing coveted seats to blockbuster musicals, plays, and other live shows on Broadway can be confusing. But with a bit of planning, it’s more accessible than ever to buy Broadway tickets to some of the most successful shows — like Hamilton, Wicked, and Chicago, to name a few.

The invitation to NBCUniversal’s 2025 upfront presentation promised “a sneak peek at the greatest two years in the history of any media company.”
Hyperbole? You bet. We’ll all be content if the entertainment industry just stays afloat through 2026. But it’s always easier to make lofty claims when you’re first at bat, as Comcast’s evolving TV, film and streaming conglomerate was at Radio City Music Hall on Monday morning. NBCU kicked off a week that will see all major players in ad-supported visual media make a plea for spending commitments in a time when a volatile economy has purse strings ready to snap shut quicker than a gate door at Newark Airport.
Perhaps all that uncertainty is why NBCU chose to open its two-hour program not with a musical performance from whoever’s mentoring on The Voice these days — that was the closer! — but with a tip...

Seth Meyers went there! Hitting the NBCUniversal upfront stage on Monday morning, Meyers gave a strong monologue tweaking his corporate overlords — and one joke at the very end elicited the biggest laughs (and gasps!) from the audience.
He kicked off the gag by noting that “we have some great returning shows this year, as well as some new shows. ‘Ted’ is returning to Peacock for a second season, but for the sake of ad sales, we’re just gonna call it ‘The Bear.'”
Fine joke. And then he went in for the kill, utilizing the upcoming new show from his pals Amy Poehler and Mike Schur: “‘Dig’ follows four women who work in a archeological dig in Greece who uncover a long buried secret. Well, if it’s a long buried secret at NBC, I’m guessing it’s Matt Lauer.”
Boom, nailed it. “I’ve been told to wrap it up here!

New data from Luminate shows that Netflix original shows are losing viewership and market share.
Netflix may be the leader in global streaming, but even this juggernaut service is not completely invincible. New data from Luminate’s Streaming Viewership report shows that Netflix original shows and movies are seeing declines in viewership, and the streamer’s original TV shows are also losing market share to other services. While the world’s largest streamer still dwarfs its competition, this could indicate that Netflix is doing something wrong, but it could also be a sign that the service’s competitors are starting to catch up.
Key Details: Viewership down, but share up: Netflix original movies gained 12% viewership market share in 2024. TV slump: Both viewership and market share of Netflix original TV shows have fallen in 2022. Flexing their muscle: Smaller streamers like Paramount+ and Peacock have been gaining on Netflix. Seth Meyers helped to close out NBCUniversal’s upfront presentation on Monday with yuks about Comcast’s Versant, Matt Lauer, and the “Chicago Pope.”
He was the second Seth to take the stage at Radio City Music Hall. Seth MacFarlane opened the presentation with an expletive-fueled musical number that promised how NBC “has the shit you are after.” You can find his zingers here.
Here were Meyer’s best one-liners from Monday’s show:
“Hello everyone. I’m Seth Meyers, or for the right price, Tostitos presents Seth Meyers. I host the 12:30 slot. I’m open to anything. If I could sell the naming rights to my kids, I would. Verizon would be a great name for my 7-year-old, considering how often I scream at him. Can you hear me now? My daughter’s name, maybe it’s Adelaide, maybe it’s Maybelline. Maybe it’s Ford. F-150. I’m not picky you guys.

The 2025 upfronts kick off in New York City on Monday, with entertainment giants like NBCUniversal, Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery pitching their wares, even as digital-first interlopers like Amazon, Netflix and YouTube have butted their way into the week.
While the upfronts used to about broadcast networks unveiling their fall schedules, the events have morphed into a celebration of corporate synergy. Last year, for example, NBCUniversal used the event to premiere the trailer for the film Wicked.
“That was something that was not what we were doing years ago. It was cool. It was very cool,” says Mark Marshall, NBCUniversal’s chairman of ad sales. This year, don’t be surprised if the company’s new Orlando theme park Epic Universe gets a mention, or perhaps Disney’s new project in Abu Dhabi.

Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh is set to do some ass kicking in scrubs as the lead in newly-announced stylized action film “The Surgeon.”
The feature — hoped to be the first in a franchise — is being introduced to buyers in Cannes by Patrick Wachsberger’s 193.
“The Surgeon” comes from writer/director Rohsan Sethi, who also happens to be a physician, and extends a history of successful action collaborations for Wachsberger and producer Basil Iwankyk, who previously combined on “John Wick,” which Iwankyk produced and Wachsberger distributed as chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group.
In the film, Yeoh will play a retired surgeon who is abducted and forced to operate on a mystery patient. Though greatly outnumbered, her captors have overlooked her greatest weapon: 35 years of surgical experience, leading to what the synopsis describes as an “explosive and brutal confrontation” during which she outwits and cuts down her enemies “in a...

We built the damn house, and guess what? It’s made of gold, and we’ve got more work to do.” Chu added, “I’m ready, if you all are.”
Chu recalled being on the set of his 2013 film “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” and how he felt “nervous as hell.

Elsbeth star and executive producer Carrie Preston opens up about the police procedural's first cast change. It is usually in a season's last installment that significant changes happen. But, in the case of the popular CBS show, the Elsbeth season 2 finale served as an epilogue for departing cast member Carra Patterson. The actor, who plays Officer Kaya Blanke, will recur in season 3 after her character receives a big promotion in the penultimate episode.
In a post-finale interview with Deadline, Preston responded to Patterson's departure ahead of the already-confirmed season 3. The Emmy winner talked about the fact that Kaya is leaving after achieving a big dream. She mentions how, because of the procedural structure, Elsbeth doesn't work with the same detective every week. Still, in the quote below, Preston underlines that viewers will see Patterson again:
“I love Carra with all my heart, and she’s brought such value to Elsbeth and the show.

“Poker Face” Season 2 kicks off with “The Game Is a Foot”, guest starring Cynthia Erivo as the Kazinsky quintuplets. This tour de force not only demanded a wardrobe merry-go-round from costume designer Leah Katznelson (“Feud: Capote vs. the Swans”), but also pushed detective Charlie Cale’s (Nathasha Lyonne) reliable Bs detector into overdrive when solving two murders.
Erivo, who shot the episode (written and directed by creator Rian Johnson) in 10 hectic days during her “Wicked” New York press tour, plays four sisters who starred as teenagers in the hit action TV series, “Kid Cop Nights,” but have turned into wildly different people. Amber, who sculpts portraitures and takes care of their sick mom; Delia, who manages an apple farm where Charlie hides out; Bebe, who’s a free spirited DJ; and Cece, who’s a comparative lit professor. Erivo additionally portrays secret fifth sister, Felicity, a respected mixed-media artist, who...

Francis Ford Coppola has dismissed the Trump administration’s newly announced tariff plan targeting foreign-made films and described a marked increase in theater attendance for Megalopolis, his $120 million self-funded feature that premiered in September 2024. In a new interview with GQ, the director linked the surge in interest to recent political events and reiterated his decision to keep the film out of digital circulation.
Coppola said audiences have filled screenings in cities including Boston and Detroit since Donald Trump returned to office. He credited the film’s themes for the renewed interest, noting that Megalopolis draws from Roman history to present a fictional vision of a declining republic set in a futuristic New York City. “Being that it was so prophetic or prescient to say America is like Rome—it’s going to maybe lose its republic—now people are rushing to see it in theaters,” Coppola said.

During a press event in Seoul promoting Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Tom Cruise declined to respond to a question concerning former President Donald Trump’s proposed tariff policy on films produced abroad. The question referred to the film’s international shooting locations and whether the production might be subject to such tariffs.
“I’d like to ask this question to anybody who’s up for it,” the reporter began, according to a translated exchange at the event. “I saw that it was filmed in many different locations around the world, including Africa. We all are aware of the tariffs that President Trump has been imposing on overseas productions and films. So, is this particular movie under that tariff? And how much of the film was shot overseas?”
Cruise responded off-mic to the moderator: “We’d rather answer questions about the movie. Thank you.” The moderator acknowledged the direction and moved the conversation forward.

The winners of the 12th Annual Easterseals Disability Film Challenge Awards were announced Thursday night at the Sony Pictures Studios lot in Culver City.
Designed to promote and encourage more film and television works by artists with disabilities, this year’s Easterseals challenge tasked filmmakers with creating short films one-to-five minutes in length that exist within the thriller and suspense genres. As usual, challenge participants had just five days to craft their shorts. The cast and crew of each film had to consist of volunteers, and at least one person with a physical or cognitive disability was encouraged to be involved in the making of each short in an on-camera or behind-the-scenes capacity.
Of the 123 shorts that were submitted this year, just five ultimately took home the challenge’s top awards. In addition to host, actor and Easterseals founder Nic Novicki, Thursday night’s event was attended by Peter Farrelly...

Ahead of her directorial debut, ask the actor about her 00s romcoms, working with Heath Ledger and Julia Roberts and whether she is still a Duran Duran fan
Julia Stiles has been on our screens for almost three decades. After studying theatre in New York as a child, Stiles was cast as a disturbed teenager in the 1998 Michael Steinberg thriller Wicked. This led to her break-out role as the antisocial older sister of Larisa Oleynik and potential girlfriend of bad boy Heath Ledger in the 1999 Shakespeare-influenced 10 Things I Hate About You (based on The Taming of the Shrew). On screen, she then dated Freddie Prinze Jr in Down to You, and swapped ballet for hip-hop with Sean Patrick Thomas in Save the Last Dance.
As Stiles grew up, so did her characters. She played a young assistant to Betty Rizzo from Grease (Stockard Channing) in The Business of Strangers.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers from “The Game Is a Foot” Season 2, Episode 1 of “Poker Face,” now streaming on Peacock.
“Poker Face” writer Laura Deeley came up with the idea of featuring identical quintuplets for an episode of the whodunit series, and creator and director Rian Johnson thought it was “batshit insane in all the best ways.” But he wanted to give it a shot.
Johnson didn’t want to use anything fancy to pull it off. He wanted to dig into what a “Poker Face” episode looks like, and maintain that vintage aesthetic that had been established in Season 1 — but he wanted to use old-school camera trickery when it came to filming. Johnson says, “To me, that meant making sure we’re making every ounce of ‘What’s Up Doc?’ and French farce-like in one door, out the other, near misses and pretending to be different people.”

Erivo is introduced here playing Amber Kazinsky, a trodden-upon woman who finds out she's about to be denied her inheritance from her mean, dying mother. Turns out the money will instead be given to Amber's long-lost sibling Felicity, also played by Erivo. After Amber begins a scheme to kill Felicity and take over her life, the episode introduces us to Amber's other sister Didi, once again played by Erivo. We're soon introduced to Cece and Phoebe Kazinsky, and you're never gonna believe who plays those two. Long-time Erivo fans have known that the actress can do a lot more than play Elphaba from "Wicked," but now casual viewers know it too.

A Hollywood box office slowdown led AMC Entertainment Holdings to post sharply lower first quarter revenue and a quarterly loss in the first quarter of 2025.
The parent of AMC Theatres recorded revenue of $862.5 million for the three months to March 31, which is down 9 percent from a year-earlier revenue line at $951.4 million. The mega-exhibitor also widened its first quarter loss to $202.1 million, down nearly 36 percent from a year-earlier loss of $163.5 million.

It's almost time to bid farewell, but not goodbye to the Bridgeton teens. Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for the eighth and final season of Nick Kroll's animated comedy Big Mouth, teasing what's to come for Nick and his friends as they navigate a whole new set of challenges as high-schoolers. After graduating from middle school back in 2023, milestones are about to hit the kids hard and fast as they not only deal with their changing bodies, but also navigate sexual inexperience, drugs, driving, porn, cancel culture, and fear of the future in a complicated environment. In the end, however, what they'll need most to survive this overwhelming time is friendship and support from each other.
The hormone monster Maury opens the trailer by describing the end of Big Mouth as "the end of a very gross era." Though their final run together will be a bit messy...

A film adaptation of “Prima Facie,” the smash-hit one-woman stage play starring Cynthia Erivo in the role that earned Jodie Comer both Tony and Olivier awards, will launch at the Cannes Film Market.
Embankment is handling international sales on the project, which was first announced by Variety in 2023. UTA Independent Film Group and CAA Media Finance will co-represent for the U.S.
BAFTA winner and Emmy nominee Susanna White will direct, with Australian playwright Suzie Miller having adapted her own critically-acclaimed stage play for the screen.
“Prima Facie,” which translates to “at first sight,” tells the propulsive story of ambitious and confident defense attorney Tessa. From working class roots, the rising star in the high-powered London legal system skillfully defends her clients — including those accused of sexual assault. But after she is raped by a colleague, she discovers that the law does not deliver justice along the boundaries of consent.

Fifteen years ago, Jordan Passman had a simple idea: Help musicians make money. With the birth of Score a Score, what started as a digital marketplace for indie composers has grown into a full-service music agency with a client list that includes Apple, AT&T, McDonald’s, Pepsi, Activision and Netflix.
Score a Score has carved out a niche by streamlining and simplifying the process of providing original music for advertising, film trailers and brand campaigns. Its services span custom scoring, music supervision, sonic branding and curated playlists pulled from a catalog of tracks created by the company’s more than 400 composers from around the world.
Described by Passman — whose father, Don, wrote the industry bible All You Need to Know About the Music Business (11 editions and counting) — as “a music department in a box,” Score a Score possesses a unique strength in helping clients find the right sound quickly and seamlessly.

It’s been a colorful, dramatic, and exciting second season for Carrie Preston’s titular NYPD adviser in CBS’ hit series Elsbeth. And, on Thursday, the latest batch of episodes will round out with the season finale, titled “Ramen Holiday.” There’s a lot of hype surrounding the Season 2 finale, as we know that a slew of guest stars will make their return to haunt Elsbeth from behind bars after she was taken into custody following the events of last week’s penultimate episode. Featuring supporting performances from Stephen Moyer as Alex Modarian, Retta as Margo Clarke, Alyssa Milano as Pupetta Del Ponte, Mary-Louise Parker as Freya Frostad, Gina Gershon as Vanessa Holmes, and André De Shields as Matteo Hart, there might not be enough cells to hold the stacked cast back.
What we know so far is that one of the above names will become the victim of murder...

“On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup (Thames) stands apart.

Thom Browne tailored a starry group for Monday night’s Met Gala.
Many of those A-list guests gathered for a group portrait in their custom looks by the American luxury designer as the Thom Browne class portrait has become something of an annual tradition at New York’s Pierre Hotel. Posing in their Monday best were stars of Hollywood, sports, music and fashion including Demi Moore, newly minted Oscar winner Zoe Saldaña, Janelle Monáe, Whoopi Goldberg, Paul Tazewell, Severance star Tramell Tillman, Anok Yai, Walton Goggins, WNBA breakout Angel Reese, Lorde and Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl champ Saquon Barkley.
This year’s Met Gala went down with a theme of “Tailored for You,” a nice fit for Browne whose modern take on classic suiting has made him a celebrity magnet over the years. “For me, everything begins and ends with tailoring,” Browne told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement on Tuesday.
