les septantes
I have seen the first four of the five episodes of this series broadcast by the cultural TV channel ARTE-TV last summer. It's a good grouping of events and commentaries, and it is actually the commentaries made by such personalities of these decades like political activist Cohn-Bendit or film director Bertolucci that add value and coherence to this collection of events and make it more than just an exercise in nostalgia. The perspective is mainly West European, and a non-European viewer would have wished to see more of the American dimension of the period, or even of the British one. Eastern Europe is represented only by East Germany, and this is not completely representative, as other countries in Eastern Europe lived through very different times and coped with very different problems. Although music has not an episode of its own as it would have deserved, there is a lot of good music spread all over the film. Overall it's a documentary above the average, watching it is no lost time.
