That's how it is done

The test of a good TV series is how much you want to watch the next episode after the previous one has finished. Fallout absolutely passes this test, with me wanting to immediately move to the next episode every time.

The first couple of episodes are quite full of exposition and world building, but once the setting is done, the episodes are uniformly excellent.

The story had four main threads; Lucy (the naïve but plucky girl from a vault), Maximus (the idealistic Brotherhood of Steel grunt), Cooper (a ghoul) and Cooper (in flashback, a Hollywood star). The world has a different history to ours; 1950s tech is more advanced, but with the same aesthetics. And the bomb dropped then as well.

The writing builds both character and tension, slowly weaving mystery and reveals, with frequent dark humour and genuine heart. All the characters feel real, despite their bizarre and post-apocalyptic setting, and they all merit empathy.

Roll on season 2!

Okidoki!

It took a while for it to click, but by the end of episode three I was hooked. As is often the case, the first two episodes feel a bit disjointed and expository. However, the characters are interesting right from the start. The two main characters in particular, with their naivety and chutzpah, are well drawn and strongly cast. Walton Goggins is the perfect antagonist, who initially comes across as a stereotype that is increasingly deconstructed over time. I don't know the video game at all, but the complexity of the story is impressive without being overwhelming. I'm really looking forward to season 2.

Fallout is one of the best series of 2024 for me

Fallout is one of the best series of 2024 for me. And at the same time it's a film adaptation of the game universe. And there were always problems with the film adaptation of games. But everything is so successful here that you are even surprised. First of all, the well-chosen cast of actors, I liked almost all of them, except that Maximus and his plot branch seemed boring. Careful work with the original source, it can be seen from the first series. Fallout looks like a part of the series and not as it happens with movie adaptations where the game world is nothing more than scenery. In terms of plot, of course, the first season does not answer almost one question that the viewer will have, and the last episode creates a lot of new ones. But for the debut season it will work, I really hope that the second season will not disappoint and will continue to develop the series. Moreover, the series has such a strong primary source.

A Journey Through Nostalgia and Adventure

My thoughts on Fallout are hard to put into words. In my eyes, it is the most successful series adaptation of a video game. I also find The Last of Us great and it captivated me, but Fallout makes me addicted in a way that no series has done for a long time. The last time I felt this way was with The Mandalorian Season One, which was also a fantastic series. But Fallout is so incredible that I want to play all the games again and consume even more content from this universe.

The main story, in my opinion, is coherent, and there is a cool plot twist at the end that really shocked me. I learned more about Walter and the series itself, as well as the Fallout universe. It remains one of the best series of recent years for me. I hope they maintain this quality.

The series has humor, great music, and the soundtrack is truly top-notch. Songs like "We'll Meet Again" and "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire" are fantastic. I also fell a bit in love with Lucy. I find the actress great and she is just too pretty, but that's just a side note. I m simply enchanted.

Well Done!

Immaculate adaptation. Looks and feels and sounds like the games, also "behaves" like the games too.

Obviously, as it is a TV show, TV stuff was added and mixed with it, while all without losing the games vibe, and with TV stuff being pretty good, and well made too. Almost unbelievable that we got a pretty good TV show, that stays true to, and respects the source material, while also capturing the essence of it.., must be one in a hundred, or more likely, a thousand..plus..

Very interested to see what and how it will do with the next, and if that one goes well, other upcoming seasons. Somehow it looks and feels it will be great.

10/10 serie film. Not wasted my time.

Fallout has been managed with a good direction. The actor's performance are funny, best interpretation of the papers and well done. The whole history match with the original theme from the game of the company Bethesda. Each minute is being worked exactly, each dialogue, each movement, the used stuffs and objects included in the environment, taking care with the minimun details of scenes.

I've watched 8 chapters in one day, due that the first serie trapped my attention.

I hope to watch the next chapter.

What I like?: the mentioned above.

What I dislike?: I was waiting for the ogres, or some magical characters that appears in the game. However, the film reached more than my expectations.

So far all good and promising

Season one is very very good. Successful introduction to the series, while wraps half contained story part of it. Good start is important, as well as the finish, and so far, good start is what we got. Very good start mixed with excellent actually. All set up can easily be excellent, and there is room for improvements, which if, or when introduced, will propel this show to spectacular level, and with all that, it is also important not to have too long time gaps between seasons, that if, or when avoided, will also keep the high interest, and make this show go galactic, and with proper finish, to be known a classic, and remembered as such..

Let's wait, watch and see.

A fun, beautifully crafted tv show...

Fallout is really good. It's got its moments that will make you laugh and it's got a comedic tone that, instead of making everything feel cartoony, makes everything feel so fun and just a treat. While fallout may seem like just a fun comedy, it is so much more. Fallout takes the original games to a next step and makes everything funnier, more gory, and a very good written story. The various different plot twists hit the landing perfectly and work extremely well to give you the feeling of surprise with every episode. Fallout is the very rare occasion that a game gets the adaptation it deserves!

A Surprisingly Strong Adaptation With Room to Grow

As someone familiar with the Fallout games, I went into the show with a mix of excitement and caution-but I was genuinely impressed. The world feels authentic, gritty, and lived-in, with just the right balance of dark humor and post-apocalyptic weirdness that makes Fallout what it is.

The performances are a major highlight. Ella Purnell brings a great mix of innocence and determination, and Walton Goggins absolutely steals the show every time he's on screen. The production design is top-notch-from the Vault interiors to the chaotic Wasteland, it all looks fantastic and immersive.

The story does a solid job of introducing the world to new viewers while still throwing in plenty of nods for longtime fans. That said, the pacing can be uneven at times. Some episodes fly by, while others feel like they're spinning their wheels a bit. And a few character arcs could've used more development or emotional depth, especially with how strong the setting is.

Still, these are small gripes in the grand scheme of things. Fallout manages to pull off something rare: it respects its source material while carving out its own identity. I'm excited to see where it goes next-and I have a feeling it'll only get better from here.

On Target

This is how it is supposed to be. This is how to adapt a game, a good tv show that feels like a good game at the same time. Familiarized with the source material, or not, or the type source material, unlikely is that the viewer will presume it's a novel. And that is the whole point...

Acting is good too. Actor playing Max plays a weird character, and does it well. Walton Goggins as per usual is great. Now playing the same person and two different characters at once...

Seasons' plot and story are important, while just a fraction, the tip of the iceberg, and Fallout is one of those shows that reminds about forgotten earlier, by a pay-off later..

TOP TIER

Well, wow. Fallout show is actually great. Production value, sound and set design, acting, all top notch, very good writing too, the overall game feel is with it truly too. Lore is almost unscathed, only fewer than few little things, that more than half of, still are left ambiguous, making the show very true to the source material. Art-style is the mix of all, while FO 3 game and on, with FO 4 prevail, some FO and FO 2 is also included.

Very refreshing TV show, in a way quite different than most TV shows out there, also quite dynamic too, something is going on always, to extent that sometimes "too much" is going on, creating the need to join quite attention with watching, and then to notice and "capture" it all..

Accomplished

This show was made by people who know Fallout, and know what they want, and where they want to go, and know what they are doing. We can argue that the tone is mostly FO4, but it is obvious that that of all games is included, and games introduce changes that are not baseless, because even if games are "selfcontained" still all have to add-up propely as pieces of larger picture, while not all set on same locations, nor in time periods. Quite a change in the tone and slightly artstyle was introduced already between FO 1997, and FO2 1998, both made by the same studio, and set in approx same area, while with about 80+ years time difference. Some games while in same time period, are set on different locations, while FO4 is about 126 years after FO, and on the other side of the map. With that, changes are inevitable and natural. Pushing forward in time, while exploring different locations in different times, is other than War, the only thing that doesn't change, and that's where the TV show is, back to West and 10 years after FO4..

It's a complex, big world with long history and extensive lore, and quite some yet to explore and find out, and Fallout TV show, excellent as is, is a significant part of that..

A Delight

In my reviews for S1E1 "The End", and S1E8 "The Beginning", I already reviewed some aspects of this show, that does indirect releasing of information, non-traditional methods of telling the story, and while avoids standard exposition, tells a complex, robust story, covered under what is configured in a way that prompts asking questions, and to entertain and distract.

Now to finish and wrap up my review for the first season, I will add that Fallout show also sounds great, excellent visuals too, as well as the world building. It is really really good and well put together show, as the title for the review states: a delight.

Just wow

The long-anticipated Fallout TV series, based on the iconic video game franchise by Bethesda, is nothing short of a masterpiece. After years of development and anticipation, it's safe to say that the series has exceeded expectations, managing to capture the essence of the beloved games while carving out its own path in the post-apocalyptic genre. With stunning visuals, gripping storytelling, and a brilliant cast, Fallout delivers an unforgettable experience that stands out among the sea of modern television.

From the very first episode, it's evident that this adaptation respects its roots. The series is set in a post-nuclear wasteland, just as in the games, and features a richly detailed world where the remnants of humanity struggle to survive in the aftermath of global destruction. While this is a familiar premise, Fallout uniquely blends dark humor, philosophical reflections, and thrilling action to create a show that feels both fresh and nostalgic.

One of the greatest strengths of Fallout is its world-building. The show's attention to detail is exceptional, from the iconic Vaults to the strange creatures roaming the wasteland, every corner of the show feels meticulously crafted. The set design, costuming, and CGI work are nothing short of impressive, bringing to life the desolate yet vibrant world in which the characters operate. Fans of the games will appreciate the familiar aesthetic and the Easter eggs scattered throughout the series, which pay homage to the original titles while offering new elements to keep things exciting.

The writing is another standout aspect of the show. The writers have done a brilliant job of balancing character development, action, and world-building. The pacing is tight, with each episode revealing new facets of the world and its characters without feeling rushed or overwhelming. The show explores themes of survival, morality, and the consequences of humanity's obsession with power and technology. This depth adds layers of intrigue and emotional weight to the narrative, making it more than just a series about explosions and wasteland battles.

In terms of character development, Fallout excels at crafting memorable and multifaceted individuals. The characters feel alive, complex, and fully realized, with each one having their own motivations, flaws, and growth arcs. The series avoids one-dimensional stereotypes, instead giving depth to every character, even those who might initially seem like mere background players. The interpersonal relationships are compelling, and the moral dilemmas the characters face resonate deeply with the audience.

The performances by the cast are truly exceptional. The lead actors deliver standout performances that bring their characters to life with authenticity and depth. The chemistry between the characters is palpable, and the tension that builds throughout the series is both emotional and thrilling. Whether it's moments of quiet reflection or intense action sequences, the performances enhance every scene, making the stakes feel personal and meaningful.

One of the most impressive elements of Fallout is its ability to balance humor and darkness. The games are known for their darkly comedic tone, and the series captures this perfectly. The humor is never forced but rather feels organic, often coming from the absurdity of the world itself or the witty dialogue between characters. This lightheartedness serves as a counterpoint to the show's darker themes, preventing it from becoming too bleak or depressing.

Another notable achievement of the series is its pacing and structure. Each episode is carefully crafted to keep viewers hooked, with cliffhangers and revelations that leave you eagerly awaiting the next installment. There's never a dull moment, yet the show also allows for quieter, introspective moments that give it depth and nuance. The balance of action, character exploration, and world-building is perfectly executed, making it a show that's not just about surviving the wasteland, but also understanding it.

Overall, Fallout is a triumph in every way. It honors the legacy of the games while crafting an original and compelling narrative that can stand on its own. With incredible world-building, complex characters, masterful storytelling, and performances that elevate the material, it's clear that this show is destined to become a classic. Fallout is a must-watch for fans of the games and newcomers alike, offering something for everyone in its gritty, fascinating universe. Without a doubt, this show earns a perfect 10/10.

Changes your perception of what can be achieved

I waited more than six months to write this review. This series is emotional, incredibly well filmed and unbelievably realistic. It shows that those that make games can also write incredible stories. The filmmakers have brought to life a game which has been played by millions of people and made it into a fabulous, scenic, beautiful, incredibly technical movie. I cannot refrain from recommending this series more highly. My only hope is that the production team make another series, well at least one more. It will be a very hard act to follow, and I hope that they didn't use up all of the game resources in making this first series. Bravo!

Fast paced and satisfying

Someone who's not played the games but was aware of the lore and visuals of fallout, I was pleasantly surprised to be taken on an almost instantaneous, bizzaro joyride through an apocalyptic Americana. Great performances running throughout, with a nearly unmatched fast pace that leaves you no time to pause, something I find lacking in so much TV of today. Walton Goggins is as usual excellent, a layered and confident performance. The set dressing, locations and costume work are all superb, worn out, destroyed and strikingly impressive. Worth a watch for anyone who enjoyed the high energy and violence of 1980s sci-fi, great fun!

One of the best Adaptation I've seen years

As someone who grew up in the era where the video game was popular all I can say is wow this is one of the best adaptations i've seen in a long time because it takes what was successful about the beloved video game and matches it with an original Story and I definitely think all the praise about this show is well deserved plus the cast is really good too and if you are a fan of either the game or the show this is for you and I definitely can't wait for season two I also have a feeling that season two will be bigger better also expands the universe from the video game and I am definitely a fan of dystopian futures.

Simple, yet complex

Deceptively simple, Fallout is "running" an intricate story, that is also massive, a submarine cruiser under all the yachting and surfing.

Season 1 fleshes out the outlines that, although done (very) discreetly, can be spotted, like a dark silhouette "in the sea" via high altitude aerial search done in the right place at the right time. Season also deals with seasons' own story and subplot that both get wrapped up by the finale, ending with the so called cliffhanger, that is actually a window into "the future", shortly said, a satisfying ending displayed and joined with immense potential that will deliver a high yield in season 2, that of course, if the ball isn't going to be dropped unexpectedly.

Chock Full of Heady Goodness

A brisk and silly bit of futuristic madness and easily Prime's strongest offering. Fallout offers fantastically detailed production design. A very bedded-in world and a glorious central cast. I've never played any of the games beyond the mobile one and I think the show does a solid job of catering to newbs and continuity Colins. That being said, it's not all roses, and the consistency of the design is not matched by the pacing and the tone which can lurch from melodramatic and maudlin to slapstick and silly with whiplash intensity. The core mystery is fairly interesting but felt unresolved as the show thunders along to the finale. Consider me wholly converted to the pursuit of this particular relic.

This show is great

Visual and environmental way and choice for telling the story, characters have good arcs, and fitting Fallout games, main characters and side characters, getting side-tracked and sidelined by side-quests. The Airship is here. Soundtrack is an absolute treat, mid-twentieth century songs, and tunes made for original score especially. The feel is here. The tone is here. Fallout style real world satire mixed with intrigue, unreliable narrators, and drama, with occasionally some real, really heavy stuff added below, or on top of it. All that and more with high budget and high production value..

Fallout is back, and Fallout is expanding.

Potential All-Timer

This show is sneaky. Puts all the fun on top of massive, complicated story. Storytelling that "tells", and distracts from "told" at the same time. Simultaneously wraps all that in games style quests, side-quests, interactions with factions, characters and NPCs, on various sites and locations, what also participates the world building...

Noticeably this is high up amongst the most successful combinations of; adapting the source material as concept overall, adapting particular, specific and targeted source material, and creating a new story, characters and plots.

Very close to being excellent, excellent even..
