Great movie, important theme and fantastic Amy Adams. Considering many reviews here talking about "whining, self-centered mother that has no reason to be unhappy", it is extremely obvious why the mothers suffer so much under today's motherhood burdain. Oh, woman, suffer in silence, don't you dare to shake our precious status quo, says - I suppose mostly male - critics here.
No, motherhood is not meant to be one-person task (that brings ocean of happiness even by cleaning feces and vomit again and again...) For the most of our human history, we had the whole village to help. Unfortunately, that time is gone. And USA's idea of mom staying at home and giving up whatever she was before is beyond comprehension here in EU.
Greetings from a country where more than 80% of mothers of three or more children WORK, as we have public nurseries that anyone can afford, and we understand that women participating in public, work, social sphere is important for so many more reasons than the pay itself.
