  • Warning: Spoilers
This is a 6.5-year-old romantic (of course you guessed that due to the horribly cringeworthy title) movie for German television starring Sonsee Neu and it runs for 90 minutes as they always do. If you have seen the television series "Pastewka", you will probably know her as she plays the wife of one of Germany's most famous comedians in this German approach to "Curb Your Enthusiasm". The male lead in this movie here is played by Marco Girnth. I have heard the name before, but I'm not really familiar with his work. The director was fairly new to the industry back then when this was made, but has worked a lot since then. Two writers worked on this film. The male never wrote a movie afterward again and only did so once before, but is one of Germany's most prolific producers today having worked on more than 50 titles since 2000. The female writer is the epitome of what we don't need in the industry. She was new back then too and went on to basically only write stupid low-quality romance stuff like lots of "Rote Rosen" episodes and "Katie Fforde" installments.

This film includes some struggles between mother and child (in terms of fatherhood), but also between the female protagonist and the guy she calls uncle, but it's not entirely safe to say if they are really related. Apart from that, it's really just another generic romance movie and there is nothing truly worth watching about it. Sonsee Neu is better than the likes of Thomalla, Neubauer, Schütt and Kramer no doubt about it, but this film here is just not written well enough to let me recommend it. Nothing memorable about it at all. They boy's singing is cringeworthy and the dialogs are written horribly in general. The woman that Girnth's character is engaged to is written stupidly and with no redeemable features and I guess the writer also calls her stupid British comments a success as the audience is supposed not to like her. But it's just complete lack of creativity and the writers are in severe need of a lesson on subtlety. There have to be better ways in making us like the protagonist. The only thing okay about this film is the music. But of course these songs do not come from the filmmakers themselves, but were just chosen because they are famous and well-received among general audiences. And admittedly, together with the situations they are used, they also lack subtlety completely, even if they are good, so it's probably difficult to use them in a film less appropriately, even if they are good songs. And finally, the ending is predictable as almost always with these films and they also used another really cringeworthy performance at the end because of which the film goes out on an even lower note than it already did. I am talking about the guy of whom the boy thought he was his father with his stupid English accent. Man that was bad. Only very few positive factors about this movie and I don't recommend it. Without Neu trying her best to keep this from being a complete failure, I probably would not have given more than two stars.
