The youngest son of an alcoholic former boxer returns home, where he's trained by his father for competition in a mixed martial arts tournament - a path that puts the fighter on a collision course with his estranged, older brother.
Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle played the Russian fighter "Koba," whose nickname was taken from the moniker given to "Josef Stalin." In the original script, "Koba" was named "King Kong," but it was changed for legal reasons. The brother of Gavin O'Connor's assistant, Samantha Ellison, suggested the name "Koba."
Tommy? Jesus! What are you doing here?
Tom Conlon: I was just passing through. I figured why not have a belt with the old man.
When Paddy tells Tommy that he'll leave the coffee out until 0500 hours (5:00am), a digital alarm clock in the background reveals that the time is already 5:23am. Paddy may have been speaking in reference to future awakenings but this doesn't sound like the case, however, Paddy says that climbing the stairs hurts his knees and so it's likely he doesn't go up there often, thus, the clock may still be set on summertime.
