The actor, musician and troublemaker known for everything from Trainspotting to Fat Les opens himself up to your interrogations
Keith Allen: where to begin? You might know him as the guy who moves into the flat in Shallow Grave and then dies of a drug overdose, leaving a suitcase full of money and three flatmates on the prowl. Or as the dealer in Trainspotting who buys £16,000 worth of heroin from Renton and the gang. More recently he appeared as the dad in Eddie the Eagle and as the baddy in Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London opposite Frankie Muniz, as well as in Kingsman: The Golden Circle and Rise of the Footsoldier: Origins.
Maybe you caught Allen as a beardy Scrooge in Mark Gatiss’ stage 2023 adaptation of A Christmas Carol. He’s been in The Young Ones, Spaced and Doctor Who. He co-wrote and appeared in the video for...

Brisk addition to the British gangster franchise dials down the misogyny and ups the dramatic stakes
This is the sixth instalment in this very British, peripheral gangster franchise set in the 1990s, and maybe I’m going soft but it feels like the quality of the film-making has gone up a skoosh since the last effort, Rise of the Footsoldier: Origins. There is still a lot of repetitive fighting, stabbing and killing sequences – the fans wouldn’t watch if there weren’t – but this time round the script by Andrew Loveday and Jason Maza has more focus and dramatic heft. There’s less crude misogyny (although ladies in lingerie still abound on the fringes of the screen thanks to scenes set in strip clubs), and there’s even an outright queer-sympathetic plot line about a boxer named Billy the Kid (Ben Wilson) who moonlights as a drag queen but is...

Move Mountains Productions have released the official trailer for new film The Sun Also Rises, due for release in Summer. The Sun Also Rises is the directorial debut of a full-length film by Roland Manookian and is produced by Shane McCormick, Tom Gordon (Good Shout film collective founder), Josh Witcher and Franky Lankester (Ron Hopper’s Misfortune).
The film focuses on Raye (Gina Jones), a woman trapped in an abusive relationship. The film charts her struggle to survive, her journey to escape, and how the cycle of violence affects everyone who comes into contact with it.
The Sun Also Rises is a beautiful film with an ultimately positive message of redemption; it pays homage to the strength of the human spirit. The film draws inspiration from the Ernest Hemmingway book Fiesta: The Sun Also Rises, portraying Raye’s journey through the lens of a metaphorical bull run. Producer Shane McCormick...

Friends – this has been another punishing year. But we got through it, and we even saw the cinemas re-open and the box office begin the thrive once more. We dearly hope this continues in the new year. But The Truffles, our annual Alternative Movie Awards, are about looking back on the year in the seventh art. And it’s been quite a year.
We’ve been highlighting and championing our favourites films of each year since 2009, and this year the HeyUGuys team have come up with a whole host of heartfelt awards. From the sublime to the ridiculous, from the contentious to the uncontested – great performances, amazing films, from Oscar winners to indie oddities – they’re all here.
There may be tough months ahead, but we’ll stay safe and stay smart and we’ll get through this together. And the hope is that we’ll be able to convene safely soon,...

Craig Fairbrass is a misunderstood actor. His work has often elevated the material of British gangster flicks, of course lending his talents to the hugely popular Rise of the Footsoldier franchise. Returning in his fifth, and final instalment, which tells the origin story of how the firm first began, when we had the chance to speak exclusively to the actor, he spoke of his dreams and ambitions going forward, and a willingness to be given more nuanced characters for him to get his teeth stuck into.
