  • I have watched 4 of these so far. Pretty good.

I hope that they aged Kellie for the role.

I guessed from her face and neck wrinkles that she was in her early to mid 50's.

Was shocked to see that she was 40-41 (according to her IMDB profile) at the beginning of the series.

Mysteries are entertaining, with the requisite plot twists.
  • Really happy to see an old school type of mystery movie where we can watch with our kids. Nothing horrific or adult rated or other bad scenes, which is hard to find these days. Thanks! After watching this we already added all the next parts of the mystery movie to our family movie night list! =)

It would be great if this was shown on Netflix because right now everything mystery on Netflix is so not meant for kids.

So I just spent two days watching the whole nine episodes of this Hallmark murder-mystery mini-series. And here is my take: 1 - With the amount of scenes throughout the 9 episodes where Finch and Hailey were either drinking or eating junk food, I was quite surprised that neither of them developed. Cardiovascular disease!!! These scenes just reached a point of annoyance to be honest.

2 - I felt sorry for poor Jonas. I mean how many times Hailey blew him off or dragged him into dangerous situations. And how he put up with it all. Especially in the final episode where she kept blowing the poor guy off on their anniversayr celebration dates.

3 - Quite early on upon entry of the Clyde character I had a feeling about the guy. And it did not take me too long to correctly guess that he had something to do with Will's murder.

4 - For six episodes detective Danny Morgan (Will's brother) seemed to be a solid regular in the mini-series, but his character was abruptly dropped with no explanation after episode 6. I think he could have been written out in a better way by the writers or not even written out.

5 - In the first episode we see Hailey's mom, dad, sister and niece, but then they disappear and reappear briefly here and there. Why introduce them into the series if they are not going to remain regulars? I mean the only four regulars who appeared in all 9 episodes were Hailey, Jonas, Finch and Monty.

6 - The Hailey character was like a Swiss Army Knife. She was a former assistant DA, a psychologist and a sleuth, which seemed to stretch imagination a bit too much in my opinion. And the annoying thing was at the end of each episode as she's confronting the killer, she always tries to talk the killer down through speed psychotherapy, until lo and behold cavalery turns up in the nick of time.

Having said all that. The mini-series was entertaining.

In Hallmark movies and TV shows, there is a tragic and unnecessary epidemic of fake eating. You know what I mean: actors having something delicious in front of them. They bring it right up to the tip of their mouth, are about to partake, and then boom, the director cuts to the next camera and somehow the actor has magically finished!

In Hailey Dean Mysteries, there are no smoke and mirrors. Viv Leacock as Fincher Garland, is the real deal. He takes us on a journey, chowing down on an eclectic mix of culinary delights, everything from sublime burritos to salty snacks, and we enjoy every savory second of it.
  • Over-familiar plots and mis-en-scenes drawn straight out of TV series like Diagnosis Murder and Murder She Wrote (shadowed profiles of killers with gloves presenting a syringes to the camera). Attractive actors (notably all in the 30-40age range) and backgrounds but stereotyped villains (eg., hostile, egotistical and hysterical CEOs and doctors) that are supposed to present red herrings for the viewer. Plethora of poorly-drawn primary and secondary characters that are all trawled serially for "motive" by the protagonist (which of course turn out to be other "secrets" they are concealing. Use your 90mins elsewhere.

Well, it is an old school mystery that has no adult rated scenes or violence that you can watch with your kids, as long as they are under 10. Anyone older will be bored. Definitely a Hallmark kind of movie.

I sat through one (well I fast forwarded through one) as I kept hoping it would improve. The plots are stale, full of holes, unworkable timelines, incredibly stupid criminals, and over acting. Most of the actors look like they are in a silent movie and using excessive facial expressions to compensate for lines that are cliches.

It is actually so bad that it is actually kinda fun. It makes it more of a comedy than mystery.
