  • Coming soon is about a guy who works at a theater who makes a side living off of pirating movies. He starts to pirate a horror movie that just came out and weird things starts happening in his life.

You later find out why it starts to happen to him. I Don't wanna spoil it by saying why it happens. Although the surprise and reason is pretty cool All in all it was pretty original and well done the idea is definitely not something i think has been done in a horror movie before which is why it is definitely worth watching. Some pretty well done scares happen in this one and with the movie not being overly long and straight to the point and not dragged out only adds to why its great.

Although not a groundbreaking and revolutionary scary movie it stands out to me as a solid well done horror movie that should scare the average movie watcher pretty well. Definitely worth checking out
  • I always say that if it is not that great, nor bad, it goes perfectly in the middle, so 5 it is! But Coming Soon did try to surpass its condition, therefore, I'll show my appreciation giving it a solid 6!

Why? Because I had fun watching it, some good horror elements, good use of the audio, an ending harder to anticipate than usual, overall, a nice time in front of the screen! So I wont give you any hints, with the exception of "Try It!" and thank me later, Coming Soon, may not be something everyone heard of, but it does not make it any less better than most such productions. Underrated, underground, unheard, does not translate into bad! Watch it, works perfectly for a night late horror!

    Cheers!

    Warning: Spoilers
The Thai horror movie industry appears to be flourishing these days, Shutter, Alone, Coffin, 4bia...It has spawned a respectable number of productions, though not all are created equally scary.

"Coming soon," which was released in 2008, starts off with an advanced screening of a horror flick having the same name (Coming Soon). As a marketing gimmick to draw in more audience, the movie comes with the claim that it is based on a true story. However, much to the dismay of those who saw the film the creepy effect lingers long after the viewing, because everyone who watches it mysteriously dies and the bodies somehow are transported into the movie itself.

Former boyfriend and girlfriend Chen and Peoll, also protagonists in this movie, inevitably become entangled and are persistently haunted by a vengeful ghost. To avoid looming death, the two set out to find the true story behind the making of "Coming Soon." From there the tension continuously builds, climaxing when the truth is finally revealed.

The ghost's makeup is designed to have an all-around repelling effect, compounding the baleful venomous stare with an thoroughly dirty look. If one is not scared, then one is nauseated by the suspicious yellow chemical that coats the ghost's body. The turn off is effective either way. And I am very serious about the atmosphere being spooky. It will make your heart pound.

At this point, I would almost say "Coming Soon" is a fine movie. Alas no, it was a good horror until the last 30 seconds. Then it crashed. Since I don't want to ruin the fun for those who stumble upon this review, I shall conclude with this advice for the director: More is not always better; stalking sometimes is creepier than a direct confrontation.
  • Watching this movie for the second or third time after 13 years and it still giving me the creeps at some scenes! Especially with the help of the ghosts' make-up which looks quite real and some effective jumpscares. Overall a classic Thai horror.
  • Well, I will start out by saying that "Coming Soon" (aka "Program na winyan akat") is definitely a horror movie that proved to be entertaining and interesting. So if you enjoy Thai horror movies, then "Coming Soon" is most certainly a movie well worth checking out.

This was my second time of watching it, after having seen it back around the time when it was initially released. And while I had actually completely forgotten the movie, then it proved to be a movie that can be watched again.

The storyline in "Coming Soon" is one of ordinary regular horror, but at the same time then writers Sophon Sakdaphisit, Chanajai Tonsaithong and Kongkiat Khomsiri actually managed to put enough of a twist to the storyline so that the movie stood out and wasn't just another run-of-the-mill average horror movie.

I liked the twist to the storyline, and no, of course I am not going to give it away here. But it proved to be enough of an unforeseen plot twist that it was actually a nice reveal once it came about.

Visually then "Coming Soon" was a nice refreshing deviation away from the stereotypical horror movies, where you have a young girl dressed in a pure, white dress, with her long, black hair covering her face. Instead, you have a wrinkled, disfigured and deformed crone haunting the screen. And it worked. Oh yeah, it worked. Especially so, since the make-up department really worked their magic with the special effects and make-up.

The acting in the movie was good, and actor Chantavit Dhanasevi (playing Shane) carried the movie quite well with his performance.

All in all, "Coming Soon" is a good horror movie, and it is one that I can warmly recommend you taking the time to watch, if you have the time, and if you enjoy Thai horror movies.

My rating of "Coming Soon" lands on a six out of ten stars.
  • This is a story about a movie-house and its denizens. Two projectionists snag a horror movie to bootleg a copy, but they get caught. Plus, having this movie in your possession isn't such a good idea; it's haunted by the main character in its horror story and now she's coming for them. This is just an ok horror story with few real scares. The visuals of the scary hanged woman who kidnaps children and gouges out their eyes, though, are frightening indeed. The scary-gory ghost is one of the few good things in this flick.
  • The movie is a thorough entertainer which keeps you guessing and makes you thrilled for the whole 1 hour and 20 minutes. The movie's concept is like Ring series, except that the story line was well matched with the whole concept in this movie.

The cast has performed with great care and cohesiveness that the movie looks complete and compact in all aspects. The background score is awesome at many places, the power of silence has been used precisely in the movie to horrify the audience.

The ending for the movie was also something that was unexpected, since many a times horror movies end with a positive note of good surpassing the evil. This was an end that has created them a chance for a sequel as well.

All in all a great show by the crew, hope they come out with quality movies like this especially horror movies, since the crew has all the capabilities to bring out quality horror movies.

I was very pleased and would recommend this movie at least till I encounter another well pictured horror movie. I would like to sum up with rating this movie 7/10 for its stupendous performances, background score, screenplay and not a very tricky ending.

I just watched this on TV today. What really scared me was the story plot - how it was set in a theater (having the potential to make people who watch in the cinema paranoid) and the realization at the end. No one would have thought the scene in the cursed movie of the old woman getting hung was real. But honestly I felt that the trailer of this movie was scarier than itself. There were few scenes trying to "jump" at the viewers; however, they were not very effective. I thought it was clearly overdone. If you're really looking for an absolute Thai horror movie I would suggest "Shutter." That was the scariest movie I have ever seen in my life (and I'm a huge horror movie fan) - the pacing was excellent and the whole plot is just horrific yet brilliant. Disappointed by this movie? Then go watch "Shutter," and I will assure you that you won't be let down!

This was a neat concept. When it comes down to being scary, it wasn't getting it done for me. There wasn't a lot of dialogue and I think that is what really took away from it. I didn't feel connected to the characters. It's not bad but it's not great. It was an ok watch for me.

It has a semi-original idea and interesting enough setup but then doesn't really go anywhere interesting. Falls victim to the usual Asian tendencies for sappy relationships and sentimental nonsense. The CGI scares are fine but you don't care enough about the plot to get much out of it. Feels like they could only afford two main actors and filmed the rest in as few locations as possible. Our main duo then proceed to go on your stereotypical clue hunt where they progressively uncover what is meant to be a surprising and satisfying plot.

The whole thing just doesn't hold up 'cause of the corny way people act. It almost comes off more like a drama or low grade thriller than anything resembling horror.

Fortunate for me, Pattaya shows movies with English subtitles...

Thai customs makes Ghosts scarier than any other horror imaginable. For a westerner to take concept of this shows the ability of this film to give a plausible atmosphere to sustain belief in the fantasy presented - which was done well.

There are some humorous notes to offset the frightening scenes (as all horror films possess), but enough scare factor to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Personally I liked the ending; it was a little unexpected... And if you saw movies like the original "The Eye" or "The Eye 2" or "The Eye 10" then you probably would too!
  • Phew... That was intense... Jump scares, tension, effects and plot twists, 'Coming Soon' has it all. It's not a horror film to ignore if you like the genre. One gets more and more appreciation for Thai filmmakers as they definitely know how to scare you.

The first 15 seconds of the film sets up the tone of the story and you know that it's not going to be an easy ride. One thing that struck me in particular is the scene construct that I noticed throughout the move. Familiar close up on the character with the villain in the background where we observe an unaware or suspicious look of the person. We know it's coming but we think there is still time to prepare. But then. Snap! Campera changes to POV and we see the perpetrator right there. A great recipe for a jump and a scare.

The spine-chilling scenes were mostly intertwined with 'not so scary', bordering on comical ones. The characters were slightly overacted and sometimes chucklesome. The cliché relationships took away a chunk of the splendidness of the film. However.

These imperfections were covered up with a great scare scenes set up, the perpetrators back story and the fact I couldn't sleep half of the night as I couldn't erase the death stare of the villain from my mid.

I will definitely take a break from the horror genre for a couple of days.

What a bloody confusing title. "Coming Soon is now showing!"

    Sorry, had to do that.

The only redeeming thing about calling the film Coming Soon is that it makes sense, after you've actually seen it. It combines film piracy and horror, which I think is a far more effective way keeping film pirates away from movie prints than anti-piracy trailers. The two film pirates here are Yod and Shane, both working as cinema projectionists who are assigned the task of recording an unreleased horror film, Revengeful Spirit. Turns out this film isn't just spooky film-wise, it seems haunted! (I'm sure you didn't expect that.) When Yod goes missing, Shane is convinced the deranged woman in the film is out to get him, and for that matter, anyone who watches a particular scene. Kinda like in The Ring, except consistent with Sopon Sukdapisit's writing efforts (Shutter and Alone), the "ghost" also has a sob story to tell. That's where the twist comes in, but it wouldn't be a twist if I told you, so… heh.

I like my horror movies with a good, meaty story, and Coming Soon offers quite a good spread, except it's plagued by more flaws and loopholes than I would've liked. It's disappointing to see glimmers of something potentially good get buried under a pile of clichéd scare tactics, something the movie does incessantly. Also, it's a bit slow on the pacing, which takes away a good part of the horror and surprise. On the whole, it has a very promising idea, though sadly the script needed a few more re-writes, and the writer himself could do with hiring a different director. This is Sopon Sukdapisit's directorial debut, though it looks like he's better off just doing the writing.

I wouldn't call Coming Soon scary, unless you're easily frightened. Think heavy make-up and sound effects. It has very little of the dreaded tension in Shutter and Alone, though I think that's a flaw due to the film's pacing and directing than the actual script. Some scenes border on being repetitive and annoying, so much so I found myself going, "I get it, I get it, OK?" There's good use of ambiance though, and… well, dark empty cinemas are already creepy anyway. More dramatic than scary, you probably won't feel crept out while watching it in the same setting as the supposedly haunted one in the film. The novelty of a horror movie set in a cinema hasn't been met, and I hope someone else does something about it.
  • The start of this movie is really dark as a Crazy women who kidnaps kids pulls there eye out and as little girl tries to escape , then there parents come and they finds out what she did to their kids and and beat the old lady and they hang her, then it turns out to be movie that people are watching in a cinema.

One of the work goes back to cinema late night, so he friend could record the movie and sell the movie before it get released however anyone who sees the end of the movie, strange things start to happen in the cinema.

This movie had great story and some really good turns in the story I didn't not see coming, there was some scenes that made me JUMP!, while I still getting of that scare and other scene that made me scream (I must be getting old lol ) as I was not ready for that scare.

This movie can be confusing near the end but it dose kind of make sense, The acting from everyone in this movie is great, also I like the fact it's a short movie and it never gets boring.

If you like Midnight movie (2008) I liked it, it was fun, you will really like this movie as it so much better and a lot more creepy then Midnight movie (2008).

I going give this movie 8 out 10

Watched this because it was recommended by a friend, who said it was very good.

It is excellent! It does not overly rely on jump scares, even though there is a big one at the end. The horror comes from the atmosphere of the story. It is well written with a great twist. Also, the characters are believable. There are no Mary Sues or Jack Sues. No one survives.

PS: Have been doing a horror movie marathon recently. Watched End of the Line, Coming Soon, who are both very good, and Blair Witch, which is poor, even by Hollywood standards.

Conclusion: Hollywood mainstream horror movies generally fail to be horrifying. Good horror movies are generally not as well known, but smartly crafted. They usually come from countries other than US.
