Amazon has now revealed that Countdown will land on the streaming platform on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, exclusively on Prime Video. According to Deadline, the action series will debut in “more than 240 countries and territories worldwide,” with new episodes following weekly and the season finale dropping on Wednesday, September 3.

The psychological supernatural horror film centers on a troubled young man who makes a desperate attempt to save his terminally ill mother and unleashes a supernatural entity in the process.

It marks the first effort from Kahuam Films, the newly launched Los Angeles-based production shingle of filmmaker Alex Kahuam.

Kahuam’s previous films — including the recent single-take thriller Failure starring Ted Raimi — were produced via his Mexico City company Promotora Nae, usually as US-Mexican co-productions.

The filmmaker has five genre projects in development, including a large-scale, high-concept supernatural horror pic set in different locations that he hopes to shoot in Europe.

But fear not, series creator Eric Kripke is keen to expand its horizons through a number of spinoff projects. Obviously, the bad news was that the fan-favorite series was tapping out following its next set of episodes. On the other hand, the good news revealed to audiences that this wouldn’t be the last time they’d step into the Kripke-created universe, thanks to a newly minted spin-off that was already heading towards production. Previous off-shoots, including The Boys Presents: Diabolical and Gen V, have already given audiences something different, and it appears that Vought Rising will do more of the same. The upcoming title will feature Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash as their deplorable “heroes” Soldier Boy and Stormfront, respectively, and take viewers back to the titular company’s early days.

The company has hired Disney’s Jennifer Rogers Doyle to oversee its television franchise business as series such as Cobra Kai, The Boys and Outlander continue to eye spinoffs.

Rogers Doyle has been named EVP, Franchise Management. Starting today, she will based on the studio’s Culver City lot and report to Sony Pictures Television Studios President Katherine Pope.

It comes as The Boys, which was renewed for a fifth and final season, has a number of spinoffs including Gen V, which was renewed for a second season, and animated anthology Diabolical; Outlander spinoff Blood of my Blood is set to arrive later this year on Starz and the team behind Cobra Kai are keen to tell a Mr. Miyagi spinoff.

Originally meant for May 2024, production on Gen V Season 2 was postponed following the sudden and tragic passing of Season 1 star Chance Perdomo in a car accident last March. The delay lasted until late July, and filming lasted through mid-to-late October.

Speaking to Forbes, showrunner Eric Kripke spoke about the political aspect of the show, which comes more to the forefront with every season. "Look, I thinkThe Boys probably, for better or worse, is a political show at this point," he said. "I think season four was political. I think the world has sort of grown to resemble the show more and more in a way that's not great. And so, we just sort of lean into it. I mean, the show is about why and how you should question your leaders. You should question anyone who stands in front of you.

Stop me if you've heard this one before, but the latest season of "The Boys" was a total bloodbath and left us on its darkest note yet. Viewers have come to expect the worst with Prime Video's superhero satire series, which always seems to take the path of most cynicism. In season 4, that meant the United States ushering in a puppet as a President to do the bidding of Homelander (Antony Starr) and enact martial law, all while our heroes were either scattered to the winds or captured. Oh, and if all that wasn't bad enough, a mid-credits scene even teased the return of everybody's favorite freak Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles).
