It’s razzle-dazzle time for TV.
The largest platforms will converge in New York the week of May 12 to show off new content and put the hard sell on Madison Avenue for advertising commitments.
Upfronts week isn’t the make-or-break moment for the TV biz that it once was. CBS has bowed out of hosting a presentation, opting for smaller events in multiple cities. ABC and NBC are part of larger pitches for parent companies Disney and Comcast. Amazon and Netflix have joined the parade.
No matter who’s in and who’s out, upfronts week is still an annual mile marker and a time for every network to take stock. Below, Variety breaks down the hits, misses and needs of the major players as they tubthump their upcoming lineups.

Patrick Schwarzenegger is hoping to take a stab at a choice role that happens to bear his first name.
Schwarzenegger, who has made no secret over the years of his affinity for American Psycho, is continuing to publicly voice his interest in lead character Patrick Bateman in director Luca Guadagnino’s planned feature adaptation of author Bret Easton Ellis’ 1991 best-selling novel. Christian Bale played the investment banker harboring murderous fantasies in director Mary Harron’s cult-favorite film version that hit theaters in 2000 from Lionsgate.
In response to an X (formerly Twitter) user posting Wednesday that playing Bateman could be Schwarzenegger’s “breakout role,” the actor replied, “I’d love nothing more,” adding a winking emoticon.
This is not the first time that Schwarzenegger, who earned acclaim for his work on the recently concluded third season of HBO’s The White Lotus, has made it known that he has his heart...

Once upon a time, the phrase “nepo baby” was seen as derogatory.
Coined by combining the words “nepotism” and “baby,” it means the subject is a child of influential people in an industry and has (allegedly) benefited from these connections.
Nepo babies who wanted to go into the same field as their parents would go to great lengths to hide their privilege. Some would even change their names to avoid outing themselves.
(Fabio Lovino/HBO)
The name is still not a term of endearment to some extent, but a current crop of nepo babies is challenging this stigma.
The actors in this list have proven that being the child of a talented performer should not be used as a metric to discount someone, and everyone should be judged by their work.
This list focuses on their work on television, but some have ventured beyond the medium and are killing it in music and film.

The White LotusSeason 3 wrapped last Sunday, and one of its young stars is already planning his future after the series. Patrick Schwarzenegger, who plays Saxon Ratliff in the HBO drama, is likely still enjoying the effects of what is, undoubtedly, one of his best performances, but the young heir to the Schwarzenegger legacy knows what he wants to do next: make an action movie with his father, Arnold.
The actor spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about his role as Saxon, the douchey and wealthy Chad who faces a reality shock during a vacation with his family in Thailand. Although the actor constantly plays all kinds of characters that heavily differ from what his father did in his youth, Schwarzenegger understands that in the Hollywood spotlight, he's still under the shadow of his father. Nevertheless, he says that Arnold is now facing what Patrick faced when he was a child: "That...

Alan Ritchson may be off saving the day again soon—but fans will have to wait longer than usual to see it. Following the action-packed conclusion of Reacher Season 3, Prime Video has confirmed a fourth season is on the way. However, according to a new report from TVLine, season 4 won’t begin filming until production wraps on the Frances Neagley spinoff series, which stars Maria Sten as Neagley. The two shows share much of the same crew, meaning Reacher will have to wait its turn.
Season 3, which debuted earlier this year, saw Ritchson's Reacher go back to his solo roots, delivering the kind of no-nonsense justice that made season 1 such a breakout hit in 2022. After a more mixed reception to season 2, the most recent chapter was praised as a return to form. With Reacher now Prime Video’s biggest original series, fans expected a yearly rollout to continue uninterrupted. But that plan might be shifting.

After speaking out against nepo baby assumptions about his acting career, “The White Lotus” breakout star Patrick Schwarzenegger is ready to own his last name and work with his iconic father, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Patrick told The Hollywood Reporter that after his turns in series such as “The Staircase,” “American Sports Story,” and “Gen V,” he feels ready to collaborate with Arnold on the big screen.
“I definitely want to do [an action movie],” Patrick said of his career aspirations. “I mean, that’s the goal down the road is to do those types of things. I’d love to do that, if it was the right thing. I’ve talked to my dad about it, and I’ve told him I’d love to do that if it was the right thing. Reacher might be one of Prime Video’s most successful shows at the moment, but it seems the success of the franchise is about to work against the hit show.
According to a new report from TVLine, production on season 4 is going to be delayed and will not begin until after Prime Video films the upcoming Reacher spinoff, Neagley. While the good news is that production on the spinoff is currently underway, the bad news is that Reacher season 4 will not begin production until after production wraps on the show’s spinoff due to the fact that the two shows share the same crew for the most part.
Amazon is keeping the production timelines for the two shows close to the vest, but it seems to be a strong possibility that Reacher season 4 will still enter production this year. Our guess is that production just won’t begin until later in the year,...

As The Boys gears up for its highly anticipated final season, Antony Starr (Homelander) has shared his reaction to reading the final scripts — and it sounds like fans are in for a wild, unpredictable ride. With Season 5 marking the end for Prime Video's subserve superhero show, expectations are sky-high.
Starr talked to Collider about his mixed emotions regarding the show’s ending. While he’s grateful for the success and longevity of The Boys, he also believes that ending at Season 5 is the right call.
It’s strange because as much as I love the show, I don't like seeing things outstay their welcome, so I'm kind of glad we're finishing at five, and that's it. I love the show and the characters, so it's a bittersweet moment.Antony Starr
This should come as a relief to fans who have seen other popular series lose momentum by overstaying their welcome.

Prime Video's The Boys is coming to an end with its fifth and final season, and Antony Starr (who plays Homelander on the show) promises that fans aren't ready for the shocking finale. Based on the graphic novels by Garth Ennis, The Boys is set in a world where superheroes are so common place, they have become pawns to be bought and sold by American entertainment companies and defense contractors. Across four seasons, we've watched the titular team, led by Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) lead the underground fight to eradicate the egotistical 'supes, and Season 5 will bring the dramatic battle to its long-awaited conclusion.

Gen V is the first spin off show from Amazon Prime's very successful superhero show The Boys, a show that goes into what superheroes would be like if they were pretty much all bad people. Gen V's first season shows viewers what going to college as a superhero is like and, par for the course for anything related to The Boys, it's very good and frequently very gross.
Eric Kripke has taken to X to share an exciting update about Gen V season two, which has already wrapped filming. His post reads, "Okay #GenV update! Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver‘s son, Patrick Schwarzenegger, responded to accusations of nepotism after landing a leading role in season three of White Lotus.
“I know there are people who’ll say I only got this role because of who my dad is,” he told The Sunday Times in an interview. “They’re not seeing that I’ve had ten years of acting classes, put on [high] school plays every week, worked on my characters for hours on end, or the hundreds of rejected auditions I’ve been on.”
He continued, “Of course, it’s frustrating and you get boxed in and you think at the moment, ‘I wish I didn’t have my last name,’ but that’s a small moment. I would never trade my life with anyone. I’m very fortunate to have the life and family that I have, the parents I have, and the lessons...

The Boys has a lot of character arcs to wrap up in its upcoming fifth and final season. Prime Video's hit superhero satire series, loosely based on the graphic novels by Garth Ennis, has been a brutal and bloody affair over the past four seasons, with Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) on a mission for revenge against Homelander (Antony Starr) and the rest of the superheroes controlled by Vought Industries. One such hero was A-Train, played by Jessie T. Usher, who was the catalyst for Hughie Campbell's (Jack Quaid) personal vendetta against Supes, leading him to join Butcher's mission. But a lot can change over four seasons, and audiences slowly began sympathizing with A-Train in the last season, with Hughie even forgiving him for the death of his girlfriend, Robin. Usher hopes A-Train's redemption arc continues in the upcoming fifth season.

The long, unexpected journey of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" is set to receive another chapter. The streaming series first debuted in 2022 to somewhat divisive reactions. However, for my money, "The Rings of Power" Season 2 used a darker, bolder, and more complex story to show us what the series was truly capable of. The show's strong viewership numbers and consistent quality has finally led to what was all but inevitable: an official renewal for Season 3. And it comes with a fascinating wrinkle, too.
The Hollywood Reporter dropped the news, with Prime Video confirming that "The Rings of Power" Season 3 will begin filming in just a few months in the UK. But that's not even the biggest development for fans of author J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy adventures set in Middle-earth. Since premiering in 2019, The Boys has been a smash hit for Amazon Prime Video. The series' overwhelming success is primarily attributed to the emotionally complicated villain, Homelander, who pretends to be a hero. Actor Antony Starr brings Homelander's nuanced feelings to life in The Boys and has cemented him as a mainstay in the superhero genre. Still, if things had panned out differently, he may have played a different role in cinematic history.
Despite Daniel Craig becoming synonymous with James Bond for most of the 21st century, he wasn't the only actor in the running for the most famous spy on the planet. Since the release of Starr's Bond tape, social media has been buzzing with comments reflecting excitement towards what could have been.

Now streaming on Netflix, “Kinda Pregnant” centers on a woman who has dreamed of settling down and becoming a mom, but life hasn’t had that in the cards for her just yet. So, when her best friend gets pregnant, she kind of spins out.
That spin-out includes using a pregnancy belly to fake her own, but of course, that scheme quickly goes awry. It gets very messy.
Here’s who you need to know in the film.

Prime Video's subversive superhero series The Boys is one of the best genre shows out there. The show takes everything you know about the superhero genre and flips it on its head. And it's pretty timely too, offering up a daring take on how modern politics may play out if those in charge had superpowers.
The main show will conclude with its fifth season, which is slated to premiere sometime in 2026. But fear not, series creator Eric Kripke is keen to expand its horizons through a number of spinoff projects. The Boys has already seen two spinoff shows, including the animated series Diabolical and Gen V, a live-action series set at a superhero collage. Gen V returns for its second season later this year. There's also another show in the works called Vought Rising, which is set in the past and follows Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) and Stormfront (Aya Cash...

Prime Video and Eric Kripke essentially hit us with a good news, bad news one-two punch when it was announced that The Boys would be ending with its upcoming fifth season. Obviously, the bad news was that the fan-favorite series was tapping out following its next set of episodes. On the other hand, the good news revealed to audiences that this wouldn’t be the last time they’d step into the Kripke-created universe, thanks to a newly minted spin-off that was already heading towards production. Previous off-shoots, including The Boys Presents: Diabolical and Gen V, have already given audiences something different, and it appears that Vought Rising will do more of the same. The upcoming title will feature Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash as their deplorable “heroes” Soldier Boy and Stormfront, respectively, and take viewers back to the titular company’s early days.

Gen V developed Sam and Emma's whirlwind romance in Season 1. Season 2 hints at a lovers' quarrel based on leaked BTS clips.
Emma Meyer will have a new love interest in Gen V Season 2, a leaked video shared on X suggests. The clip previewed actor Stephen Kalyn and co-star Lizze Broadway in a kissing scene. Kalyn debuts a new character in the series, and it appears he's going to cause a rift between Emma (Broadway) and Sam's (Asa Germann) relationship. Newly surfaced photos from the set of Gen V Season 2 hint at the chaotic, gruesome action, and the relationship dynamics (both familiar and new) that the upcoming season will have to offer.
Originally meant for May 2024, production on Gen V Season 2 was postponed following the sudden and tragic passing of Season 1 star Chance Perdomo in a car accident last March. The delay lasted until late July, and filming lasted through mid-to-late October.
With near radio silence from official channels since, though, fans were surprised to see new photos and videos from set almost three months after the spinoff of The Boys finished filming.

Prime Video's subversive superhero series The Boys might be highly exaggerated, but it does have something to say about our current political moment. The fourth season was the most politically charged yet, featuring themes of authoritarianism and fascism. I mean, the season featured the tagline "Make America Super Again." Sound familiar?
Speaking to Forbes, showrunner Eric Kripke spoke about the political aspect of the show, which comes more to the forefront with every season. "Look, I thinkThe Boys probably, for better or worse, is a political show at this point," he said. "I think season four was political. I think the world has sort of grown to resemble the show more and more in a way that's not great. And so, we just sort of lean into it. I mean, the show is about why and how you should question your leaders. You should question anyone who stands in front of you.

Stop me if you've heard this one before, but the latest season of "The Boys" was a total bloodbath and left us on its darkest note yet. Viewers have come to expect the worst with Prime Video's superhero satire series, which always seems to take the path of most cynicism. In season 4, that meant the United States ushering in a puppet as a President to do the bidding of Homelander (Antony Starr) and enact martial law, all while our heroes were either scattered to the winds or captured. Oh, and if all that wasn't bad enough, a mid-credits scene even teased the return of everybody's favorite freak Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles).
Well, if you thought things couldn't possibly get any worse, you clearly haven't been paying enough attention. Season 5 has been confirmed to be the show's final season and is currently in the process of filming. Of course, since this...
