I tuned in by accident as I was channel surfing. Then, I stopped to watch because I couldn't immediately determine what kind of show this is. Is it a soapy drama? Is it high comedy? Is it a satire? I've been watching for the last 40 minutes and I still don't know. If it's a drama, the writing is HORRENDOUS! I can't imagine Oprah would allow such terrible writing on her network, so I'm guessing this is a comedy-either straight or satire. It works better as satire.
So, having determined the show is satire, I want to applaud the inclusion of a little person as a member of the main cast. People with disabilities are frequently shut out of the entertainment industry unless they are the butt of jokes or stereotypes that make ableds feel better, (ie., inspiration porn). Furthermore, Black people with disabilities are almost never on screen at all for any reason. Therefore, even if the Kings of Napa turns out to be unforgivably horrid, I'll root for it because the show gave a disabled actor a chance in a role that doesn't revolve around his disability.
Finally, there ARE wineries owned by Black winemakers. Several of them are quite successful as well. As someone said, Google is your friend. See McBride Sisters, for example.

I'm not a critic but I am a woman who now and again want to enjoy an awesome, head over heels television show. After watching great hits on OWN like Greenleaf and Queen Sugar, I'm not impressed by the Kings. The thrills I got from these shows are not coming through with the Kings. Also, there is a similar show on ABC pulling my attention. Even with the plots of betrayal and infidelity, it's not keeping me as a fan. I'm only here until Bridegton comes back. As far as I'm concern this was a good winter show... maybe it's the writers but I'm not feeling the Kings of Napa. This is my final season.

I don't like the dialogue written for the actors. Also I feel the chemistry between the actors for the show to reflect authenticity is not there in my opinion.

I wanted this show to be good. Very disappointed. You start the series by killing the patriarch at the dinner table with his family. You follow this up with the revelation that he fathered a child with his wife's sister making him an Uncle-Daddy like on Claws. Be better if it was a sitcom. Another show where Oprah emasculates Black men.

You require at least 150 words to be able to submit an opinion.
So let me start by saying I was hopeful for a fresh idea/show/series.
I believe the idea is on the 'verge of fresh' but, it is also my opinion that the acting is weak. I can't even identify a stand out actor in the cast. Ultimately I am bummed the shows concept isn't backed by better talent.

I like to see my people, Black people in power. However this show is just like the other ones that OWN has aired. Another show about lies, and deceit, and power. This show is no different then Family Business. It's boring, drags and a lot of bad acting. Own is dry, with no creativity.
This exciting new series launched by OWN is one hell of a ride, with drama at every turn! The stories, the beautiful cast/characters, the sets, the fashion, the art, etc. Each episode escalates by peeling off another layer of King family secrets. I can't help but to keep guessing who's doing what to whom next. Is it August, Dana, Melanie, Vanessa, or the yo-yo wielding detective? It's just the kind of unbridled fun we need in a world full of terribly tragic news. Too bad we have to wait for every Tuesday to see it.

I am enjoying the show. It's unfortunate that because some people are unaware of Black owned Vineyards & Wineries they are saying the shows premise is unrealistic. Google is our friend. Out of 11,000 wineries in the US, the amount of Black owned vineyards and wineries in the United States are extremely low, yet they do exist! Get this, some are even in Napa, like the new series The Kings Of Napa🍷

As to who's related to who. I was surprised Oprah was involved, although, I know she owns the network. I thought it was another Tyler Perry whose stuff has been going downhill, especially after "If Loving You is Wrong" cr@p fest ending. I gave it two stars with the hopes the show improves. Also, August King's wardrobe is awful, esp. The gold suit in the 2nd episode.

I LOVE this show - so much fun, so much drama, so many costumes! Love the moments when the family comes together - love it even more when they're ripped apart by secrets and lies. Makes me want a glass of wine ASAP!

SORRY.... I wanted to enjoy this show esp with black ppl. In power owning their own winery but the acting is so bad it leaves sour grapes in your mouth. I get that Oprah wants to add diversity to her lineup but there's has to be something better than this. There is no real acting, the storyline is redundant, and the location is off. The best thing I can say about this show is the fashion and thats questionable. I say plant a new harvest and start over maybe next time you'll get a better bottle of wine.

I'm one of those who tend to give new shows at least a couple of episodes, but in this case I couldn't even get through the pilot.
Plot, dialogue, acting....it's all terrible. And since when did Napa move to Canada.

Just wow.. this show is obnoxios. I don't understand the mentality of the type of people IN the show and the people that watch it. I guess if you like being annoyed and rolling your eyes a lot.. but that's not for me. I get enough of that in everyday life thanks... I don't need it following me home.
Complete SJW, virtue signaling bs COMPLETELY based in political narrative. Trust me, the true Napa Valley wineries are rolling their eyes. Not every show needs to be based on fake POC storylines. It's tired. Move on.
Oprah must have been asleep when this piece of trash got approved for making. It is so funny they are suppose to be on west coast in Napa Calf., yet this garbage is filmed in Ontario Canada! Quite a bit of difference in the scenery between the two areas of N. America!

I really enjoy this show with a glass of wine and my friends. There are twist and turns in every episode. I love a good family drama and this family has a lot of it. There is back stabbing and vengeance and I can't get enough.

The opening is promising, looks like we have another entertaining primetime soap. I enjoyed it, lot's of family drama & more secrets to come. Is it reinventing the genre ? No ! But it's great to have a little 80s vibe back, like the reboot of Dynasty. Let's see where this show takes us.

On top of the poor writing, this low-budget effort is filmed in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, in CANADA. I managed to drag myself through one episode but as someone who lives in Napa I can't subject myself to any more of it. It's really bad.

If you're in the mood for a taste of classic soapy dramas like Dallas or Dynasty but updated with a touch of Empire, Kings of Napa is the perfect fit. Twists and turns every episode, constant betrayals and backstabbings, affairs and secrets, plus GORGEOUS costumes and sets. Sit down with your favorite bottle of wine and get ready for a good time.

Freshman shows need a chance! That's why I'm giving a great rating to KON. It's got lots of storylines and drama and HUMOR which is rare in an hour long. The costumes are really nice too. It's different then what's out there and I'm going to watch it 'till the end.

I love this show. Love seeing Black people in a positive light. The banter, the drama, the family. They're everything. Thank you Oprah for giving us this!mI can't wait for next season!,
If you love a good soap opera esque drama this is the one! Every episode is more and more drama. Wildly entertaining. The cast is drop dead gorgeous. And impeccably dressed. And it's black! Great seeing black people on tv not being tortured! Love it!

Wow!! It's so refreshing to see a wealthy black family with so many layers. The drama is A1 and it keeps me coming back every week. The OWN network is always a winner in my book. Definitely tuning in every week!
