  • Rarely have I seen an LGBTQ film where the whole film doesn't have to be about the protagonist's sexuality. 'Pretenders' strives to tell the story of people who aren't happy with their situations and feel the need to pretend to escape their realities. But it also has some good comedic moments you'd find in a John Hughes film. Definitely made with little money. Really good job overall.
  • In a tight 90 minutes pretenders shows us that it's okay to not have it all together even if we make missteps. Super indie, pretenders wears its lack of budget & the influences that come with the territory on its vibrant pink hawaiian shirt sleeve.
  • Funny, not all about sexuality, and deals with growing-up problems in a healthy way.

Has structure flaws that could easily be read as features. Nice colors, and safe vibe (though deals with some cringy situations)
