| At War Against a Chinese Drug Cartel
After spending 6 long years in prison for a crime he did not commit, "Shane Daniels" (Steven Seagal) is eventually exonerated by DNA evidence. However, it's during this lengthy incarceration that his wife leaves him which subsequently causes him to feel both empty and betrayed upon his release. Then one day, while contemplating his unfortunate streak of bad luck, he accidentally witnesses a cop being shot and--with the help of another man named "Sergey" (Jesse Hutch)--manages to kill the perpetrator. Immediately afterward Shane discovers a large bag of money in the back of a car along with a beautiful Chinese woman named "Tia" (Marlaina Mah) lying unconscious in the trunk as well. Unfortunately, both Shane and Sergey quickly realize that their problems aren't quite over when another shooter suddenly comes upon the scene. It's then that Shane seizes upon their only opportunity to escape by quickly placing the woman in the back seat of the car and telling Sergey to drive off immediately. When Tia finally regains consciousness Shane learns that the money belongs to a Chinese drug cartel and that she was kidnapped by them to get at her uncle "Kuan" (Vincent Cheng) who used to be their accountant--and knows too much to be kept alive. Now rather than reveal any more I will just say that this was a decent enough action film which probably could have used bit more character development. Even so, I enjoyed the overall plot which pitted Shane and the Russian mafia against the Chinese drug cartel and some crooked American cops. That being said, while it isn't a great movie by any means, I thought it was good enough for the time spent and have rated it accordingly. Slightly above average.
