Lara Croft, the fiercely independent daughter of a missing adventurer, must push herself beyond her limits when she discovers the island where her father disappeared.
In 2009, Warner Bros. had plans to reboot the franchise with some help from Lin Pictures with Megan Fox attached to star. However, when in 2011 the project died, MGM began its efforts to bring their prequel version to life. In 2013, the studio brought on Marti Noxon to rewrite the reboot and take over for Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, all of whom are now being replaced by the Daugherty.

SPOILER: The title doesn't appear on screen until the end of the film. Following this is a brief scene of Lara returning to the pawn shop where she sold her pendant earlier in the film. She then purchases two guns, implying she will continue the fight in sequel films (a brief clip of this scene appeared in the first trailer for the movie).
