When I read that one of my fellow reviewers called this a "documentary," I spent a few minutes staring out the window to mourn the death of a country so overrun with craziness that young people can no longer distinguish "reality" from "satire." I didn't blame the person who wrote the review. I blamed a country so out of its mind that it elected a president who tried to destroy documents by flushing them down the toilet while living in a White House with fourteen fireplaces.

We don't have to be this dumb, people.

Meanwhile, this series satirizes the theft and distribution of a sex tape between Bay Watch star Pamela Anderson and Motley Cru drummer Tommy Lee. Lily James and Sebastian Stan star as the lovebirds, and, although James gives Anderson wide-eyed dignity, Stan is so in on the joke. He plays Tommy as stoned into dangerous stupidity, but in love with Pam.

Seth Rogan turns Rand Gauthier , the hapless carpenter who stole the tape, into exactly the kind of guy who is proud of being a former porn star, even though his fame was having equipment small enough to specialize in anal. Nick Offerman plays Uncle Miltie, the poor man's Hugh Hefner who enjoys spending time with the actresses in the porn he produces in the Valley.

The series itself is a dirty little valentine to the era just before the internet exploded and changed everyone's lives. It concentrates on the seediness of the porn industry in the San Fernando Valley, the way video tapes were openly copied and sold with no regard to the cost of making them, and the insane amount of wealth someone can have from playing a set of drums. It is a tongue in cheek snapshot of celebrity before the Kardashians, streaming televisión and online life.

However, it would be a lot more fun had Pam and Tommy given their permission for the world to watch them having sex. They didn't. How that affected them is made pretty evident by the way the two of them reacted to the series. Tommy gave his enthusiastic approval of the project and loved Stan's portrayal of him. Pam wanted nothing to do with it, and wouldn't return phone calls from the producers or the actress who played her. She still felt humiliated by the whole thing,

Yes, Pam had done several Playboy spreads, starred in films and tv shows where she mostly showed off her body, and married a rock star. However, she GAVE HER PERMISSION to be photographed and filmed. She did not give her permission to be filmed having sex with her husband. She didn't want anyone to see that video, which is why it was kept in a locked safe.

And what happened afterward? Tommy got reality series and Pam never got much more work than Baywatch. Their children can see the film.

I haven't seen the end of the series, but I hope it is handled in a way that addresses the misery it caused Pam. I like Lake Bell, and I hope it does.
  • Seth Rogan is hilarious in this. And I thought the actors playing Pam and Tommy did a pretty decent job. I feel bad for Pam, she didn't deserve this revenge that Tommy's A-hole personality and ripping off contractors brought down on her.

I understand she wants nothing to do with this series, but I think they have actually been quite sympathetic to her in this series. She isn't the Bad Guy, Tommy is and obviously WAS back then.

    Really Great Music too.

Worth a watch if your a Fan of Pam, Tommy, or Seth.
  • Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee's honeymoon sex tape is stolen and leaked to the public.

Pam and Tommy is a scandalous look into the wild life of actress Pamela Anderson and Musician, Tommy Lee - portrayed by Lily James and Sebastian Stan who bother deliver with their compelling performances. The pacing is sharp, the tone is raunchy and wild & the soundtrack is nostalgic and awesome. The show cleverly explores the invasion of privacy, celebrity life & the rise of the internet.
  • Lily James was always underrated, she has proven now that she can take on much more versatile roles. She showed that she can act as Pamela Anderson. Hope she gets more mainstream and bigger roles now.
  • The story is told in a perspective of multiple characters which already makes it an unexpected treat... You wonder if it's worth watching? I thought I'd regret ,but it's more than just the story of Pam and Tommy, it's a somewhat great portrayal of the 90's era, when every teenager wanted a girlfriend similar to Pam and Pam is that Barbie girl prototype many girls aimed to be well at least physically ... Also this show is full of great 90's songs and a moral to treat people that work for you with respect, because Karma is a bit## ...
  • I liked the show and part of me wants to rate it highly because Sebastian Stan and Lily James did a spectacular job in their roles and I think it was a good lesson to people on the trauma and invasion of privacy Tommy Lee and especially Pamela went through. It also showed how awful, exploitive, and plain unhelpful the world was in response to it when they should have been appalled and supportive. BUT despite how good I felt the show was I did not realize until afterwards when I decided to look up how accurate the events were when I learned that Pamela Anderson never gave consent for this to be made. Tommy Lee gave his but he wasn't even asked for it until after it's creation so they probably would have released it consent or no. That's honestly messed up and makes them no better than the people that exploited the couple in the past. For it to be a show about consent they should have had the consent of the two people it's about. Had I known prior, I would have felt obligated not to watch it. That being said, I did feel the show did a good job of empathizing Pamela and Tommy Lee's situation in a way that speaks for many who have found themselves in similar ordeals.
  • This show really started off strong, had no issue being raunchy with some gratuitous display of nudity and sex and craziness. But right off the bat, after the third episode, it was all too fairy tale like Tommy Lee wasn't a piece of garbage in reality whose relationship with Pam was littered with unfortunate events, and Anderson's worst problem was the male patriarchy who kept her career from flourishing past sex symbol status.

In simple words, the story is very basic, and beyond the skin-deep superficial premise of tabloid sensationalism lies nothing more than two people who are just operating in a world dictated by a script that never really goes anywhere. It was actually quite shocking to see that Craig Gillespie made this because it does have that look I, Tonya had, which is one of my favorite movies of all time, but lacks the heart and emotion that I, Tonya had no trouble delivering to its audience. Its unfortunate, but I don't think I am going to finish this, there is not enough in their story to warrant its length.
  • I honestly don't understand the bad reviews. I think this is great. Honestly as someone who grew up when the sex tape was a huge thing it's interesting to find out the story behind it. The acting is on point and honestly if you didn't know better you think Lily and Sabastian were the real deal.
  • I thought the first episode was really cool and was excited for the rest. Then in ep 2 Tommy has a conversation with his penis and I started to change my mind. This show was lame. Would have been awesome if it was condensed to 5-6 episodes as there are long stretches where nothing happens. The guy playing Tommy Lee is super annoying but it's not his fault, Tommy Lee is an annoying guy and in that area he nailed it. Seth Rogen is cool and I am a massive Nick Offerman fan so was disappointed his character doesn't get that much screen time. 6/10, could have been way better.

It's unpretentious , fast paced , funny, full of energy and the guy Tommy is just insane in a fun way.

This is not meant to be a masterpiece or top quality tv , but it's super entertaining, funny and fun.

    9/10.

Pam and Tommy is a 2022 8 part mini series starring Lily James(Cinderella) and Sebastain Stan(Captain America:Winter Solider)as the controversy couple Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee who met and married 96 hours back in 1995. The first episode is about a carpenter who is doing up Tommy Lee's mansion only to get fired and seek revenge as he stumbles on a homemade video containing Pamela and Tommy having sex(which was sold online back in 1995). The second episode is a flashback video of when Tommy Lee meets Pamela Anderson and gets so infatuated with her.

I was looking forward to seeing this ever since it was announced back in 2019 as I saw Pamela Anderson in Baywatch back in 1995 as well as VIP and I wanted to see what Lily James would bring to the role as Pamela Anderson. By god she look so much like Pamela Anderson right down to the ditsy persona and the features. Sebastian Stan looked like Tommy Lee too but you can still see Sebastian in there. As for Lily you wouldn't have guessed it was her at all(wig, contacts, fake boobs and eyebrows) except the nose and that was it. If this doesn't win an award for best makeup effects then I don't know what to say.
  • I'm 1 episode in, and I'm hooked.

The story telling perspective is amazing. I love seeing this through the eyes of "the bad guy". I'm old enough to remember when this was all over the news. That news depiction back in the day did not give us the perspective that this series does. If this quality story telling continues, I might just up my rating.

I do despise the casting choice of Tommy Lee. The actor somewhat captures the attitude, but not the presence of the man. Tommy is very tall, lanky, boisterous, unforgettable...the actor kind of misses the mark for me.

Otherwise, awesome cast. Two thumbs up so far.
  • I was 10 years old during the events of this series. I eventually became aware of the tape, but I knew almost nothing of the details surrounding it. And it's way more interesting than I expected, which is why I had such a good time with this series.

I was hooked from beginning to end. It does a great job of making you care for the characters, even if they're not the best people. The cast is awesome and there are some great performances here.

The best compliment I can give this show is, even though I know this is a real life story and thus has to end, I'm really bummed there won't be a season 2. It would be so interesting to see these characters continue in a fictional story. (1 viewing, 4/3/2022)
  • I watched the first episode and I was impressed at the visual transformation of Lily James and Sebastian Stan. I was less impressed and frankly disappointed when I learned that Pam Anderson did NOT give consent for this project. I made the choice not to give it any more of my time. It smacks of hypocrisy that showing the violation of privacy by the theft and selling of a personal moment between two consenting adults was done so by once again selling the moment all over again without CONSENT. Shame on all parties involved for continuing the project without the consent and approval of Pam Anderson.
  • Warning: Spoilers
If this is anything close to what this guy is all about or behaved... From the beginning robbing his contractors, flashing his rifles around, drug-pushing, violent addict. Anderson never sanctioned this film and we can see why. What an insult, but she had every opportunity to get this freak out of her life. What a fool she was. She had a great career otherwise and I love her work. Her life is normal now. But I had no idea Tommy was such an awful person. Glad I hated his music.
  • I really enjoyed watching this show and thought it was well done. Pam and Tommy were obviously a fun loving couple and I knew the series would be stylish and sexy, but I respected how the filmmakers focused in on the gratuitous denigration Pamela Anderson received during the experience of their privacy being shamelessly publicized and monetized. It was disgusting and deplorable how easily people caricatured her, especially because those home videos so obviously represented the sheer love and happiness the couple shared in their marriage, HOWEVER, I lowered my would-be 9 rating to a 7 when I lost respect for the filmmakers after learning that they never got Pamela Anderson's approval in making the series. Knowing how the scandal ruined her marriage to Tommy Lee and caused them such shame and heartbreak why publicly expose their pain again, ultimately ALSO MONETIZING off of it by reenacting and releasing their story without their blessing? If I were her I'd almost feel like my intimacy was stolen all over again. I'm sure that the cast and crew had good intentions, but whether or not they represented her as the gracious and respectable human being that Pamela Anderson is, I don't think that they actually respected her by making the biopic.
  • Wow.... people are seriously so spoiled these days. The show is great! The actors are great! The story is great. The cinematography, the writing, the editing... everything is great. I don't know what people want these days. Everyone has completely unrealistic expectations and the second they're not 110% met they start complaining. We didn't have shows like this 20 years ago. We had slow boring crap. And leave Seth Rogen alone. I'm not a fan of him either but he's so freaking good in this! And don't get me started on Pamela... this little lady absolutely nailed it!! Is it EXACTLY 210% like Pamela Anderson? No. It's a different person playing Pamela Anderson. Duh.

Seriously... people need to chill out with their expectations. It's getting out of control. Watch this!! It's soooo good and well done!
  • Celebs always complain their life is under a microscope and scrutinized. Yet they are human like us.

This story dives into the infamous sex tape. It's not the absurdity that is revelatory. It's the dive into the impact on a person when they feel violated and taken advantage of. There are things in our life we want to keep personal. And there are people that don't care about that who wish to exploit you for profits.

People are mostly good but some are monsters. Be careful who you trust and if you're exposed learn from how Pam and Tommy handled this. They did their best but even little things can tear apart a relationship - support each other and only trust those you can rely on.

Also, pay for work that you buy. Don't be a stingy fu**.

Poor Pam and tommy. Can't feel bad for celebs but a violation of privacy cuts so deep sometimes it can't be healed. Sad world we live in sometimes.
  • "Pam & Tommy" (S00, 8-eps, 45-min, Hulu) is a pretty fascinating telling of this moment in history. It's not just about their sexcapades, it's about the 90s, the early days of the internet, about their energetic/frenetic relationship, the mercurial/immature nature of Tommy against Pam's more mature/adult nature. It's also about the seedy business of porn in the early days of the internet. It's surprisingly engaging as you'll want to watch each ep in quick succession.
  • I'm glad I gave Pam & Tommy a go. Lily James and Sebastian Stan hit their performances out of the park, they look and sound like the real Tommy and Pamela. Seth Rogen is a great addition as well. This series gave an interesting look into the sad, humorous and dramatic marriage of two celebrities. I was very young during these actual events so enjoyed seeing a dramatization of these events much later. Sad how a private tape could adversely affect both their lives, Pam wanted to be a real actress and not an object. Tommy came across as a buffoon whose heyday was behind him, washed out rich Rockstar.

Some of my few criticisms would be this series felt a bit long, you could have shrunk it a bit. Also it had a strong start with the first episode by showing a different point of view from Rand's life. This added intrigue and made it different. They should shown different angles more, tell us something we couldn't find out from Wikipedia or YouTube easily. The message of this series was great as it showed being a decent human being is important. No matter if you're poor or rich, manners and respect count. Tommy and Pam might have not lasted anyway. But because Tommy behaved badly with his carpenter it led to all kinds of bad karma.
  • Watched two episodes so far and really enjoying it. Seth Rogan is brilliant as always and lily james as Pam is smoking hot. Mixes humour and drama really well. Looking forward to next episode.

Even though the editing is poor and acting it is not at its best, the nostalgic feeling of a glorious decade where MTV and Baywatch were not in HD and still enjoyable makes you watch it till the end. Definitely seeing Pam Anderson through Lily James is remarkable.
  • This is a masterpiece on so many levels. It couldn't be told any other way, as the story is so dark; what happened to Pamela Anderson was absolutely awful. It couldn't have happened this way today, as she was victimized and then persecuted because of the times.

For those of us who lived through this and heard about the tape, or knew someone who had one, or just read the tabloids, this is an inside view of how it all went down. The campy way it's written and produced takes the viewer back to the 90's and the beginning of the internet in a fun way while telling this actually very dark, sad story.

Lily James does an amazing job portraying Pamela Anderson. Some have said she comes across as dumb, and I felt the opposite- I think Lily's Pam is kindhearted, hardworking, and endearing. I felt physically ill while she was being questioned during her deposition.

Each actor in this series is absolutely perfect for their role, with Nick Offerman especially delightful as Rand's (Seth Rogen's) skuzzy partner.

This show is nothing less than brilliant and as a xennial who remembers this from the tabloid reader's perspective, every minute of it is a delight, though I'm heartbroken for Pamela Anderson. She deserved better from all of us.

First things first - the physical appearance, mannerisms and voice work by Lily James and Sebastian Stan as Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee respectively are truly astounding. In fact I don't recall any better characterisations on film than these, ever! You actually sometimes forget it's not the real Pam and Tommy!

Three episodes in and this is a fun yet somewhat flawed watch. While the Pam and Tommy scenes are both brilliantly executed and fascinating to behold, the sex tape porn-broker-cum-disgruntled carpenter (Seth Rogen) and his surrounding sub-plots become a tad tedious, unbelievable and cringey at times. Personally i believe the extraordinary story of these two infamous superstars of the 90s is much more interesting than the stolen/leaked sex tape angle this Hulu production is primarily trading on.

Minor gripes aside however, I will keep watching because i can see this torrid 8-part tale of the Courtney/Kurt or Brangelina of their day getting really interesting when the initial dream turns into a nightmare. You should too, because this is reality/car crash tv as it should be. Truth is still very much stranger than fiction folks. Rock on Tommy (and Pam). \m/

How can the creators say the purpose of this film was to give Pamela a voice when its creation directly went against her wishes? She told you no and you did it anyway. For what? Profit?
