Not having any expectations for this film and they were somewhat met. Labeled as a teen comedy yet feels very generc and bland. Everything is quite predictable and there seemed to be several little plots. One plot involved the lead character trying to help save the beach for his aunt (or something of that sort), the other involved his two friends trying to get the attention of two Swedish women (bad accents came across from them).
Peter Dante seemingly received top billing for his role as the aging legend surfer who was trying to get back on his feet and in shape (occasionally had fantasies of Pamela Anderson- we wonder how she wounded up in this film).
Overall Costa Rican Summer doesn't exactly provide anything new, it does have a low budget but the scenery of the island and beaches are well done. Some t&a of the two Swedish women (about 4 scenes). Otherwise don't expect any great, funny or special.

This movie was supposed to be a teen comedy? Ehm, it never got anywhere near being a teen comedy. It was much more like watching a creature with its final death gurgles! It was unbearable.
The story was lacking contents. It seemed like someone had an idea during a drinking party, and that idea somehow made it to a movie.
Throughout the entire movie, I laughed maybe once. And that was at the vomiting scene. That, however, was priceless though. The rest of the movie was attempting to be funny, but never got its head above the waves.
Out of the entire cast, only Susan Ward (playing aunt Carla) was the only one doing a good job. The teens had no emotions and lacked the ability to come through on the screen. The guy who played Dinger (Peter Dante), wow... that was unbelievably unbearable to watch! And how they managed to get Pamela Anderson into this movie is beyond me. But just take a look at her "acting", she seems like she doesn't really want to it as well.
And what was up with the fake Swedish accent? People from Sweden do not sound like drunken German people in a bad World War II movie. I am from Denmark, and I know what Swedish people sound like when speaking English - and this is not it at all!
This movie is wrongfully labeled 'comedy'.
You might like it if you are into surfing and enjoy mindless movies.
I just read on IMDb that there is a part 2 on the way. That fact is simply beyond my comprehension! My advise to you is to stay well clear of this movie! It is a waste of time, and trust me, you don't want to let an hour and a half go to waste on this. Sadly, I did, and I am scarred for life.

You had to know this movie was going to be dumb when you watched it. But that is what makes this a fun movie. Dumb lines, bad wigs, nice location. You dont have to think, just watch and laugh at them. I would have given it a higher score if I based it on other movies of this quality. Dont judge just watch.

One of the worst movies that i saw in my life. One of the genres is comedy and i didn't laugh all movie. I don't understand the propose of this movie, really a bad movie. The story is to week and in the 2000's i saw great comedy movies and this film its on my blacklist.I subscribe all the bad reviews that are made on this movie. The actor is bad,the story is week and the movie is really one of the worst movie of all time. I think if i directed i film i do better then this.In my rating list i rated more then 600 movies and this is the only one that i gave one. My review is only to advertise the people that want to see the movie do choose another one, because all movies are better the Costa Rica summer.

Pamala Anderson is sitting on a burlap sack, the Swedish girls look more Slovakian, and why is sex the main currency on this island? Can't she just take out a mortgage?

The filmmakers certainly intended for this to be a critique of the objectification of the female body, but I'd argue they didn't handle these points with a deft hand and lacked the maturity to go all the way on it. The portrayal of the unhinged characters is handled so obnoxiously, the nudity feels so exploitative and forced (to cut the film some slack, the men are sexualized a bit as well), and the dreamlike score whenever Pamela Anderson appeared onscreen made me check out entirely. While we're not asked to approve of the characters' behaviors, given the over-the-top direction of these elements, the intentions of the film weren't always clear. Whenever a film is critiquing nudity/sexuality, there's a thin line as to how much of that subject it can depict and how it portrays it before its commentary becomes muddled. The more it shows and the more emphasis it places on such, the more its points get diluted and the more it seems like depicting the "titillating" content is all the film wants to do. While I've encountered worse cases over the years (e.g. "Cuties"), this film still felt shallow. As for the rest of the film, it has the standard flaws I've seen in other terrible films, like bad acting, poorly-written dialogue, an overbearing and obnoxious score, poor cinematography, and an uninspired story. Of course, it's not like this is the only poorly made film out there which is disposable entertainment, but I think the reason this film bugged me so much was because it was pretending to be something else. At least "Jurassic Shark" and "Meet the Spartans", which I had watched earlier this month and last month, weren't trying to do this. I will grant that the second half is a slight improvement over the first half since it's more toned down, but not by much. Overall, this is horrendously bad on almost all levels and whatever undercurrents of quality are sprinkled in were ultimately overshadowed.

Is it a great movie? No. Is it really funny? Not really. But, it's not worth the current rating. This is the type of movie you don't have to pay close attention to, to enjoy. The T&A alone is worth a 4 rating. If you're looking for something to waste a little time, while soaking in a little nudity, try this one. The chicks are hot XD.
