  • Enjoyable and pleasant adventure/swashbuckling series developed with emotion , suspense , drama , comedy , thrills and noisy action . A new spin on Zorro but the production aesthetic has much in common with the likes of modern efforts like Spartacus . The Red Eagle takes place wgen powerful nations as Portugal , France and England are all trying to take over Spain . This is an imaginative , glamorous , fun fantasy based on the wonderful adventures carried out by a bunch of heroes , such as Gonzalo De Montalvo (David Janer) , his son Alonso de Montalvo (Guillermo Campra) , the rogue servant Sátur (Javier Gutiérrez) against ominous enemies , such as El Comisario (Francis Lorenzo) and Cardinal Mendoza (Jose Angel Egido) . The Cardinal, bolstered by the powers of England , Portugal and France, is plotting to overthrow the King and bring the country to its knees . As the protagonist group will have to confront deal of dangers and adventures and will fight heinous roles . Our starring friends even involving into love intrigues , as Gonzalo de Montalvo meets his sister-in-law , Margarita (Inma Cuesta left the show at the end of season 8, but making clear that she would return to play) and they fall in love and faced off the jealous as well as mean Marquesa Lucrecia (Miryam Gallego , Lucrecia was temporally written of the show due to Miryam's pregnancy) and her proud child Nuño (Patrick Criado) . Can our loyal and sympathetic protagonists survive twisted plots , conspiracy , betrayals , violent battles in the historical 17th century ?.

Imaginative as well as lush adventure/action/swashbuckler/costumer in which our hero , Aguila Roja , takes on several breathtaking adventures and dark dangers . This splendid series blends action , historical events , suspense , fights , fencing , martial arts , intrigue and results to have a lot fun . This is a far-fetching but acceptable story about an intrepid teacher/swordsman helped by a roguish squire , Sancho Panza-alike , just to discover weird incidents and save his family ; and both of them will fight all kinds of risks to get their purports . From start to finish sword-play , romance , fantasy , action , duels and delightful adventures are interminable . All the main cast and support cast turn in a so-so to magnificent acting . There is great budget , just amusement enough to cover production gaps and some flaws . As important teams of re-enactors and extras were used for soldiers in battle sequences , expert stunts for the impressive leaps , as well as groundbreaking recreations of ancient moments . Fine special effects mostly made by means of CGI and liking performances by the leads manage to keep this one afloat .

Compellingly written and produced by Daniel Ecija and well financed by Globo Media , this Spain's top production company has created 14,000 hours of TV programming on both the scripted and unscripted sides and its formats or shows air in more than 145 countries . • It's pretty difficult to describe what people do in other parts of the world when you have no idea what that part of the world is or how their people are. Lots of criticism came to this fantastic series because it was not like the American ones people are used to.

RTVE is the largest and publicly owned radio and TV conglomerate of Spain. And, for many years, the only option. The only one with money to make a series. But they never had anything close to Aguila Roja. This one goes over the top and more.

A very handsome, educated and able man is the avenger of the people in a time of extreme poverty, overwhelming power in the hands of kings and the church and little to no education. That's the setting for this "Siglo de Oro" series. Now in its 9th year, it obviously has many flaws and sometimes even goes backward. But, all in all, it's a very enjoyable thing to watch with tons of period props, dresses, historical references, love affairs and the omnipresent doom of the powers to be lingering in the air the people of Madrid had to breath. The fights are the centerpiece of almost all episodes and they're done beautifully with weapons of the age.

It will even take you through many of the torture machines of the time and their crooked uses.

    Enjoyable!
  • One of the best film criticisms I ever heard was "if the characters weren't so stupid, we wouldn't have a movie." That pretty much describes this series. Most, almost all, the problems the characters face result from their own unbelievable stupidity. I can't even count how many times I groaned & yelled at the TV, "Come on! Nobody is THAT stupid!!" The two main culprits are Satur, the faithful squire of our hero, and Alonso, his son. Satur's numbskull mistakes I could bear because the character is so lovable & endearing, but the son ... yeesh. He starts out as an obnoxious brat & over the course of nine seasons grows up to be a selfish, insufferable brat. His character became so deeply unlikable that I started rooting for him NOT to be saved from his various predicaments.

So how/why did I make it through all 116 eighty-minute episodes? You gotta love the 17th century superhero. Not only is he kind, selfless, and just, but he can take down a whole batallion of bad guys with his crossbow, ninja stars, and trusty sword. The fight scenes are rather unrealistic until you remember that he's not just a hero, but a superhero, with all the appropriate speed, reflexes, and strength befitting a superhero, centuries before Marvel Comics.

In summary, the series is a very mixed bag: groan-worthy plotlines but a truly great protagonist. Despite the ups & downs, I binged through all nine seasons in about two months. By the end, I was honestly hoping that they would revive the series, bring us Son of Aguila Roja, just with better-written characters the next go-'round.
  • If it's possible to respond here in any way can anyone let me know which season and episode it was? thanks!
  • This series was light, well written, with great characters, very good acting, and reminiscent of times when gore and sexual crudeness were not a must to make it. Thank you!
  • Just catching up with this show and working my way across Spanish, still loving every second.

After Gonzalos' wife is killed he becomes a hero for his people. interesting, full of action and a good view of the amazing "Siglo De Oro" of Spain. there are few things that might now be accurate, still some of them will bother you while most of them you pay no attention to, there's something for everyone intrigue, deceit, great action scenes and a great story.

for many is going to be a new El Zorro but its so much better, i've seen kids excited about this show that can't speak five words in Spanish. you have to watch it to enjoy it, you have to enjoy it to understand it, you have to understand it to love it.

    and I love it already
  • I recognise the effort of putting all of this together in a country like Spain, where budgets are far more limited than in the US or UK, for example. This said, there's little more that would attract me to spend time in front of my tely. Dialogs, attitudes (male & female, but specially this last one), and of course details in weaponry, costumes and set in general, are in a clashing anachronism with what they intend to represent. The Spanish language used here corresponds more with 21st century urban slang than something remotely close to the wonderfully rich "Siglo de Oro"-Golden century-; same things could be said to the characters, where, except for their garments, one can find dynamic 2010 women, and very open-minded 16th Century Spanish men.

Unfortunately, Hispania - A brand new historic series, taking place at the time of the Roman Empire-, follows the same trail.
  • This is a series that started slow and maybe the Soap Opera video quality of the visuals can take some people down but as soon the series go, People will have the opportunity to watch a great adventure series with great characters, great cinematography, great costumes and a lot of fun. I am already on season 3 of 8 season of one of the most popular series in Spain. If you like The Musketeers, The Zorro and other similar series you will love this one. I really recommend the series for all the people who love great international television. You can find it on Netflix right now! Give it a try! There is not a lot of this kind of series on TV right now!
  • Well this is literally the first Spanish series I started watching back in 2012 when I was a teenager. To be honest I loved it from the beginning watching first episodes but due to some problems I could only watch it until season 7. The main reason I stopped watching it, was the TV Channel ( Gem TV ) that stopped dubbing the rest of the series; so since I don't understand Spanish I started looking for subtitles for the last two seasons but I ended up with nothing! There weren't even English subtitles! So I gave up until few days ago after some years I noticed some of my Persian countrymen ( Aguila Roja fans ) have recently made subtitles for the rest of the series. I can't be happier. And in the end I recommend this series to those who love history, sword fightings, drama, comedy and action all in just one package.
  • I 'm watching this show for 4 months in RTVE site and I've been found it very funny with good acting from main characters. Being portuguese and knowing well spanish, I can understand better show language, than people that can't understand show original language. Even I find difficult some data accurancy, such as Felipe IV marriage with Hernan and Gonzalo's mother (once Felipe's first wife died in 1644 and his son's are portrayed like children back this time) and a roman circus in XVII century, I think this is a good show and I look forward to watch the next show.
  • I saw this series when I was pregnant of my son lol. Love this series. Now, I want to see it again but it's hard to find it in apps. I hope is in Netflix men.
  • adventures. crumbs of Golden Century of Spain. not real convincing but nice. a film who reminds a lot of Romantic heroes. and who preserves the flavor of classic justice maker portrait. the script is not surprising. the performances are decent. but it has a basic virtue who defines its charm - the respect for the old recipes. in strange manner, that does it seductive. because it propose a different Zorro and Don Quijote, a not bad image of Spanish social categories, a mixture of religion and politic who is far to be credible but seems define contemporary cases. a film who has many ways. and who has the courage to give, with a low budget, a slice of a historical period in a not boring style. it is not Hollywood but it is a good product. simple, naive, touching, for kids and for the admirers of old fashion stories.
