Dancing on a Dry Salt Lake puts the "independent" back in Indie filmmaking. A thinking man's movie that is also full of heart, it is set in the apparently God-forsaken, dusty mining town of Trona,California. But though Trona may be hell to some, it is home to angels, mystics, artists, and expats, along with one very wise coyote—all of whom help transform a lost astronomer into a visionary who may or may not have found the origin of the universe, but who has certainly found new meaning in life. If you like the quirky characters of Fargo and Northern Exposure, the poetic scenery of the California desert, and the hauntingly beautiful music of Carlos Nakai, you'll love Dancing on a Dry Salt Lake.

szsilvers6 January 2014The movie is a unique blend of mysticism, science, comedy, drama and romance for all ages. This bricolage works well to tell a story about a NASA cosmologist searching for meaning in the universe and within his life. Interesting concepts in regards to the Big Bang are conveyed in the beginning, but the film becomes more about Werner's journey through the desert as he is introduced to a group of artists and a native (Aldred Montoya) who share the rich history of the surrounding land. Barry Livingston and Suzanne Snyder also have major roles, which help drive the film. The acting of De Fazio is inspiriting. Dancing on a Dry Salt Lake is about personal and universal discovery, and the solitude found within Mother Nature. With Carlos Nakai's music and the sweeping desert landscapes, you are sure to be transported on a journey through enlightenment.

mrfrank120 January 2014Spiritual journeys, like dreams or creative endeavors—painting, writing, movie-making itself—are not easy to portray convincingly on the screen, because they are by nature interior experiences; yet in Dancing on a Dry Salt Lake Dominique de Fazio has done a remarkable job of bringing us inside the head, and heart, of Warner De Santis, a NASA cosmologist who after a car accident becomes "shipwrecked" in the Mojave Desert. This vast, apparently empty, and windswept place, which at first seems bleak and forbidding, slowly begins to reveal its rich complexity to De Santis and to the viewer. We are equally compelled by the the landscape itself, with its secret spirituality, captivating light, and haunting sky, as by the people who have landed in the hardscrabble town of Trona, California. Here De Santis falls into stories within stories as he finds himself drawn into staging musical in a threadbare roadside café with a handful of local people as actors. Alternately sad and comedic, logical and absurd, Dancing on a Dry Salt Lake features an array of supporting performances that are so natural that they stay with you long after the movie has ended. This is a movie for anyone who is a seeker, or who responds to gifted acting, or who can feel wonder at the mystery of human quest, and connection.

There are no words that can describe this film. You Need to watch it for yourself.
It is a great piece of Art that I highly recommend.
A little bit of magic that can occur in our day to day lives if we let it happen.
Finding your own identity in todays world can be tough and sometimes everyone needs a little push to step forward. -
djmueller10 January 2014This film has moved me very much. It is one of these rare movies that is not only for entertainment while watching it. No, it remained with me for many days. I cannot put into words what exactly touched me so much - but my heart and my soul were nourished by this film.
I laughed so much, but I also had tears in my eyes. I did not feel that I was watching a movie in many moments. It was more as if I was really there. And although it is Warner in the film who is on a spiritual journey, amazingly I was reminded of my own human soul.
The music by R. Carlos Nakai and the amazing pictures of the desert landscape complete this wonderful film. -

1. The acting in the movie 'Dancing in a dry salt lake ' special of Sabrina Serri, Annelie Harryson and Dominique De Fazio makes me so happy in my body, to see their craft, worth to get any award.
2. The whole composition of the movie is wonderful clean, precise in editing, in harmony with the human nature. I can follow. I can breath, I felt NOT manipulated during seeing the movie. Also there is a director and editor who is thinking and aware about the steps in his work- a love to the detail what is very rare nowadays.
3. This movie gavel me hope and the understanding: I'm not wrong in my human body, everything has a reason. I wish: More movies of this kind needs to be done to make new sense to the movie art and industry. -

What a relief ... I naturally say, " Finally! " For years and years, it really is not uncommon to feel beaten, adrenaline , sleeping... Of course , this is my School , the only real chance for each Artistic suction , to reconstruct a world dominated by Devastating Effects too often , with the sole aim of enriching the portfolio , not at all interested in the consequences , young people above all, they are living . "Dancing on a dry salt lake " encapsulates the responses and promotes the need to ask all the questions most important to the discovery of one's " Meaning of Life " , the weight and / or the relief that comes from consciousness , the way to can learn from ourselves in the best way . ___________ I feel the need to thank Dominique De Fazio , the whole cast for this Human Masterpiece by 110 Oscar Awards, while imagining that in this era of Poor Reality Art , perhaps, the Oscar, it will not be a prize for "Dancing on a dry salt lake "but , I hope, strongly , otherwise ... , I hope the Miracle .. Since the beginning of the film I was captured by the incredible natural rhythm , the tangible spontaneity of Performers , the very careful choice of the Director of creating the set, the Stage of Life. A true message of salvation for the whole of humanity , where the special effects natural , constantly present ( no actor knows what's going to happen , so , as in real life ) are able to offer a passport for the " Beauty of life " so as to be fully , in good or bad times , selfishness or generosity .......................................... This story, set in a dry and empty desert, offers to the audience a world that is full of wonder. The way in which the pictures and the music of this film are put together is marvelous. It is complex in it's simplicity and simple in it's complexity. Big questions are asked, meaningful questions. And yet everything is done with a very distinctive sense of humor. The mysterious mixes with the ordinary. And as much as this movie is out of the ordinary it relates to each and everyone of us, for it is about life, it's about where things come from and where they are going to, it's about the movement and the dance of life. ("Whoever doesn't dance does not know what's happening.")

m-e-l-l8 January 2014This movie is not just a movie, it is story telling par excellence.
I've read the screenplay and was in shock how careful and perfect words can be picked and what every single line was able to evoke in my mind and also sensually.
I've seen the movie several times and will never ever get tired of watching it. Every time seeing it the different layers of the story bring me to different places and let me notice different things - not only about the movie itself - about my own life, my longings, dreams and believes. Where ever I stand at the moment, this movie has to tell me something. (Sounds weirded? Yes, maybe. And: this is my experience!)
Can't wait for the directors DVD set to come out to finally see the deleted scenes and subplots.
If you are interested in life, the nature of human beings, quantum physics, philosophy, religion, and the big questions in life, this movie is definitely a must see and you will personally benefit from entering its world. -
Uta-HH12 January 2014Dancing On A Dry Salt Lake incredibly makes invisible dimensions of our lives visible on film.
Its rhythm is of the desert, and in its own way the film pulls us forward almost magnetically.
The humour, in this very human comedy, was like a wake-up call to my inner child – letting me laugh out loud at our human nature.
Dominique De Fazio, as the broken cosmologist Warner de Santis, gave one of the best performances that I have ever seen in film. Like a wizard, he pulls us out of the cinema chair and places us with him in the desert. He tickles our point of view intense for a magnetic urgency to follow him. We walk where he walks and see what he sees. Scene by scene I feel completed as a human being, which I nowadays often forget just to be.
In the end one leaves the theatre with a smile and a thirst for the magic and marvels of ordinary life. -

In a rare way, the acting reveals the unseen richness of simple moments with uncommon lightness. Writer/Director Dominique De Fazio gives to this project sounds, pacing, and rhythms that keep us glued to the what is about to happen next. "How can we hear, what the universe wants to say, if we are only listening for what we want to know?" is what the character Warner says in the film. This film is for those who wish to follow the journey of one who ponders that question. And, this film has stayed in my heart long after leaving the movie theater.
