  • one hundred percent comedy movie. once again Venkat Prabhu prove's he is a young director. That the 4 th Goa song was super. thanks to yuvan. some B W :After courting many legal battles, Goa, the maiden production venture of Soundarya Rajnikanth is finally out. The two back to back success stints at the box office with Chennai-28 and Saroja has upped the expectation levels on Venkat Prabhu and his team and the young director raises only partially to the bar he has previously set in.

Goa implies pleasurable holiday spot and when there is a young team like Venkat Prabhu's at work, it is easy to place the genre of the film. Jai, Premji and Vaibhav are three naughty friends in a village whose antics lead the village naattamai to impose ban on their communication and interaction with each other. Not withstanding this, the friends escape to Madurai where they see Jai's mediocre friend happily settled in marital bliss with a white woman. This sets them off on a trip to Goa to seek a life like Jai's friend. The events that follow their escapade form the rest of the film.

The birth of Premji as God's gift is shown as a spoof from many old Tamil films. His frolics are enjoyable especially in the scene where he mimics Vettaikaran Vijay. The song 'puli urumudu' as a backdrop when he fights with the

Goa baddies and when he imitates Baba Rajnikanth increase the comedy quotient and bring the roof down. On his part Vaibhav with his weakness for women but suffering at the hands of Sneha has done well. Similarly Jai trying to speak in his broken English tickle funny bones. It is a laugh riot sans logical reasoning in these sequences.

Simbu, Prasanna and Nayanthara share a scene each. Pia is adequate. Sampath and Arvind Akash as gay couple (first for a Tamil film?) have performed well. Sampath is brilliant and gathers all the accolades. The scene where he clarifies his relationship with Premji to Arvind Akash moves the audience but the acceptance of their relationship by Tamil audience is uncertain. The issues and the ensuing dialogues when Premji comes in between this relationship have been stretched and blown out of proportion which could have been avoided. Perhaps the title of the film has let the director take such liberties!? Venkat Prabhu's screen play appears to be bewildered at times whether to travel on the comedy track or the serious one. The audience is left to judge for themselves. Adequate care in this department would have made a huge positive difference to the film. There is some respite when it comes to the characterization of Sneha as there is a suspense element tagged with it.

Songs by Yuvan Shankar Raja have been picturised well and re-recording is just fine. Sakthi Saravanan's cinematography works in tandem with the mood of the film. Venkat Prabhu seems to have lost his Midas touch and misses his hat trick!

The title itself says its a fun movie. This movie specially targeted For youngsters.

All the three actors were done a good job, specially I loved Premji's character, He was brilliant in his role.

Even that foreign female character was also done a nice job. I liked her expression in 'kangal irandal' spoof with Premji.

Venkat Prabhu proved again what he is capable of after giving hits like "Chennai 28" and "Saroja"

Its very occasion to see multi cast in an Kollywood movie, only youngsters can do experiment like this, keep it up good work guys.

Lots of previous blockbuster movie's background scores and comedies were added here for fun.

The movie was a little about gay stuffs and first time in an Tamil movie that I have seen. I felt three songs were super boring.

Three youths from small village escape and reach Indias paradise state Goa. Their aim is to get marry a rich foreign women and to settle down in life and In foreign. Rest of the story was a joy ride.

And Oh! Its a first production venture for Soundarya Rajinikanth's OCHER STUDIO. Good going Aish, do some big budget works especially with your dad.

Lots of surprises awaiting in the end. Recommended to all! If you know the language then fun will be doubled. Have it and have a fun guys!

Goa is a another fun filled film of 2010, and I've noticed that there have been a lot of those types of films recently: Kutty, Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru, Theradi Villiati Pillai, etc. This film starts off with a great Indian folk song and introduces the title in an old fashioned way, then goes on with a bit of an origin story telling us about our 3 main characters who live in the poor parts of India and they just don't like their village and always are getting into trouble, as they fool around and do things that disgrace their families. So it goes on for a little while with the average clichéd village story. Later on it is discovered due to a certain something happening to the trio that they all have to escape from their village and leave to Goa. After that it's all fun and pretty much about their new life and the girls they meet.

All of the actors gave an awesome performance. The trio all had 3 hilarious personalities. Jai's character was kind of stiff and kiddish, the Vaibavs character had an old ,teenage, Kamals Manmadhan personality, and was pretty funny, and the best was Premjis character who just played how he always does in every single film he's been in. The gays, Jack played by Akash and Daniel played by Sampath were also very well done and managed to make me even feel a little sorry for them during some parts in the film. The heroines Melanie, Sneha and Piaa all did pretty good in their roles except for Sneha, as she just didn't really fill the character she was playing, and boy she sure does play "someone" in the film and the chemistry between her and one of the heroes didn't really attract any feelings. Also this is the first film that I have ever seen where a "white" person plays their parts really well as in most movies, for example, Peranmai, the white soldiers were literally lifeless and had the worst acting that I have ever seen in my life. Overall acting was very well done.

The chemistry between all the characters was pretty good. The best was the chemistry between Jai and Piaa's characters, as they both act very differently between each other and everyone in the film kind of finds that out. Sneha and Vaibhavs characters chemistry was really weird as it just didn't really match and felt like the director just put them together for no reason. Premji's and the white girls chemistry was hilarious and even a little heartwarming, and you have to watch the film to understand what I mean. Everyone else was great in the film.

The story and direction was alright as the story was not very complex and emotional like Venkats previous films, which both are great films and always end off with a bang. The tone for the film was kind of messed as it had many abrupt tone changes,as sometimes you would not know whether to laugh or to feel for the characters. Venkats previous films: Chennai 60018 and Saroja all were made with a sprinkle of drama but this film was pretty silly at times, like there was a part where the characters all get high off Maruajana I presume and they just laugh at stupid things for 10 minutes straight and bores you. This film really was missing a lot of what made the previous films awesome, in my opinion Chennai 60018 is the best but then he did state that this film was meant to be a fun film and an American Pie or Road trip type of film and those films don't have the charisma that this film had so I think I can forgive him this once. But one thing I was very disappointed was the climax battle as there was an intriguing "epic" start to the battle but it ends off very stupidly.

The songs in this film at first weren't that great when I heard the soundtrack but after watching the film, I totally loved them as they actually do totally fit the theme of the films and go with the flow of the film. Yuvan did a great job with the club mix and Valibi Vava was hilarious and Idhai Varai was one of the best songs in the film.

The comedy in the film was also pretty good, as it was one of the main themes of the film, and Sampath and Premji are the ones who made the comedy awesome. Premji had a lot of action scenes in the film including one where a certain someone wanted to "beat the **** out of him," and comes with ninja clothing and makes the whole action scene pretty silly but Premji turns all Vettaikaran style on him and makes it a great laughing riot type of scene.

Overall, Goa was a pretty good fun flick and it did have some drama in it, and kept you entertained all the way till the end. It does have some adult themes like someone dancing with out their underwear and girls in their bikinis but thats why this film got an adult rating. I hope that Venkat makes his next film with the energy that he had in Chennai and Saroja and continues to entertain us.

Goa A Venkat Prabhu Holiday is quite enjoyable HOLIDAY.Premji who don's the role of Holy Person,Jai and Vaibhav as his friends bring the house down with their dramatic work that is light and often humorous.Sampath for the first time does a different role.Sneha and Pia do their part.Melanie Marie looks quite gorgeous.Cinematography by Sakthi Saravanan is awesome.Music by Yuvan is excellent.Cameo from few star's comes as a surprise. On the down side there are too many songs which hampers the pace of film.On the whole the the film live's up to the expectation.

i was expecting a lot of fun from this movie, after venket prabhu's "Saroja".

but clearly this movie lacks something that "Saroja" has.

Saroja was like "Awesome,Splendid", but this movie is more of chicky focusing on lots of girls, and forgetting the main pace of the movie.

The kind of "correcting girls" is more of an imagination and rarely happens in reality.

certain aspects were not shown in proper detail, like a person sees the gold while cleaning their room, but does nothing, and the gold is just like that presented to sneha...? A touch of oceans 11, Casino royale is seen in the casino scene where they try to get the gold back.

The movie was O.K but not entertaining. the audience were bored out in the start of the movie it-selves.

"once u reach greater heights u should at-least maintain ur position." i felt that the director fell back.

    overall rating -5/10

    Goa
Honestly, we expected more. The story of three youngsters who want to become something very different than what they are.Their goal in life is to meet a foreign girl , fall in love and get out of India. Where else to meet a foreign girl, than Goa- India's most famous tourist destination? Perhaps inspired from all the teen comedies of the west (and a bit of Dostana) but written for the tamil audience, the movie is fun to watch. What it lacks in story and screenplay, it makes up with the fun quotient. The movie is well directed, but the screenplay is awful. There is good character development for the three leads, but the other characters lack the depth. The Jessica Alba (yeah, that's her name!) role played by Melanie(?) is over the top. She looks great but falls in love with the uneducated 'priest' Saami (Premji Amaren). Wow. Piya and Sneha have undeveloped characters and there's no straight plot progression, whatsoever. Sneha is awful. Someone needs to teach her some acting.

The best thing in the acting department is Premji . He provides some hilarious moments throughout the movie. Be it, the head shaking , dance for 'kangal irandal' or his fight scene spoof of 'baba(tamil actor rajinikanth)' and 'vettaikaran (tamil actor vijay)' , he is funny. The others just play their roles. Jai's broken English (although not new for Tamil cinema) provides a lot of funny moments too. Vaibhav just fits the role and is miscast. Aravind(?) looks great (six pack syndrome) and so does Piya and they do a decent job in acting. The film also has cameo appearances from tamil actors Prasanna, Silambarasan and Nayanthara, who provide some funny moments.

Yuvan Shankar Raja's score is awesome. A couple of hits already from the movie and he does a great job throughout, be it the tamil folk genre or the Techno club mix , he is great.

What could have been a delightful entertainer is marred by a terrible screenplay. Maybe it's time Venkat Prabhu took some time to write a good screenplay. But , this is one movie you enjoy with a group of friends.

My Rating: 2.5 on 5. Worth a Watch.

Spell Goa, you are immediately reminded of fun, frolic, women and wine. Venkat Prabhu's 'Goa' is no different as the movie dwells on all these things. With more of a Bollywood feel, the movie is 'funathon', that is light and breezy all through without any seriousness involved in it.

Venkat Prabhu has managed to keep his reputation intact. Quite like 'Chennai 28' and 'Saroja', he doesn't take himself very serious in 'Goa' too. All is well but for few hiccups. The movie sets out to explore the changing relationships among the youths, especially the concept of homosexuals.

Though Bollywood has brought into light the issue in 'Dostana', this is for the first time in Tamil cinema to discuss about gay relationship. But Venkat Prabhu is not preachy and has not taken any sides or pass any judgmental comments.

The movie revolves around three youths who sets out on a trip to Goa only with a mission to fall in love with a white woman, get married and go abroad. The twists and turns they come across in their mission makes up the story.

A spoof of few popular Tamil films and songs does add to the merriment. With Premji, Jai and Vaibhav around, one is ensured of fun and frolic. There are some surprises in the form of Sampath Raj, Sneha, Silambarasan and Prasanna.

The movie begins in Pannapuram, a remote village near Madurai (the native place of Venkat Prabhu's family). Three youngsters Samikannu (Premji Amaran), Vinayakam (Jai) and Ramarajan (Vaibhav) are callous who spend all their time doing nothing. Their acts invite the wrath of the villagers and the village panchayat decides that the three should never meet again in future for the welfare and peace of the village.

The trio decides to elope from the place and spend few days peacefully in Madurai. When they reach their friend's place they come to know that he has married a foreign woman when he was in Goa and that he would be flying from the country soon. This results in them deciding to try their luck in Goa. They set off with a plan to lure a white woman and marry her.

They come across one Danny (Arvind Akash) who helps them with shelter in Goa and expose them to the party culture. Roshini (Piya) a singer in a hotel falls for Vinayakam, while Jesika (Melanie), a white lady follows Samikannu from Madurai attracted by his innocence. Enters Danny's friend Jack (Sampath) a gay. He has an affinity for Danny.

Soon Danny and Jack help the trio get an image makeover and start help them in their mission. Ramarajan's life takes a twist after he comes across Suhasini (Sneha), a rich ship owner in Goa. They get attracted towards each other and eventually gets married. But true colour of Suhasini is revealed and he manages to escape from trouble there with the help of his friends.

Vinayakam is finally convinced by Roshini's sincere love while Samikannu gets wedlocked with Jesika. After some twists and turns in the story, all ends well and the boys return to their village to start a new life. Vaibhav has a surprise when he lands in Pannapuram in the form of Nayantara.

Premji Amaran, Jai and Vaibhav have equal screen space and they bring the roof down with laughter. Premji is impressive with his 'familiar one-liners' while Jai speaking a chaste English and Vaibhav getting in trouble for his own acts are appreciable.

Piya and Aravind Akash have meaty roles to play while it is a surprise to see rough-and-tough Sampath playing a gay. Sneha though appears briefly seems to have shed her 'homely' image to do a dare bare role. She has done full justice to it. The rest of the cast includes Shanmuga Sundaram, Anandhraj, Sathyapriya among others.

Yuvan Shankar Raja is the real scene-stealer. A total of 9 songs including Goa theme are peppy and interesting to listen to. Sakthi Saravanan's camera is equally appealing capturing the sands and sea-shores with clarity.

Goa is Soundarya Rajinikanth's maiden production venture on behalf of Ocher Picture Productions. Once can applaud her commitment in taking the risk to deviate from the regular run-of-the-mill stuff and try something different.

However on the flip side, the movie might throw some shock to a section of conservative film audience. The bold theme tried by Venkat Prabhu may leave a bad taste in the mouths of some. Also the second half wanders aimlessly and needs an immediate trimming.

At the same time, one has to say that Venkat Prabhu was clear on what he wanted to do on screen and has rightly delivered the same. If you want to unwind yourself, forget all logics and enjoy, its destination 'Goa' Goa - G(ay)rey matter
  • Goa is a movie not up to mark. I'm a fan of Venkat Prabhu's direction, but this film makes me feel bad about him. may be there are some scenes that makes me laugh and feel sad. but overall i have to say that i didn't like it.

Goa is a story about three people, who wants to come to Goa and marry a foreigner. In that three people, one of them is not a gay. but he's showed as a gay. This is where i lost interest in the movie

Another one marries a married woman, where i lost complete interest, when she leaves him. Third one's love story is average, but it looks good when compared with other two

My Rating for this movie GOA - (3/10)
  • A good movie but not up to the mark. the homosexual part played by Aravind and Sampath could have been avoided. it wasn't a fully fun filled movie. the first half was drastically boring, but the second half was good, but not awesome. the part played by Jai and Piaa was awesome and their chemistry rocked. Yuvan Shankar Raja didn't do his best for the film. Idhu Varai song was only the good song. Venkat Prabu rocks for his comedy in films, but the film lacked comedy. in a scene where Premji was having a smoke for the first time in Goa with Aravind, the gang was laughing with all there hearts, but i didn't find anything funny in it they were laughing with no logic (with no sense of humor).Vaibhav acted good and his expressions were overwhelming and his part was good in the movie. the characters played their best and everything was good in the movie expect the movie didn't have any logic. all together Goa wasn't good not up to the expectations, but watchable from the second half with friends.
