In part due to the industry strikes of 2023. ABC had three times as many reality shows as scripted shows last season. Of the nine scripted series on the Alphabet Network, only seven are returning for ABC's 2024-25 season. Will we see more comedies and dramas this season? Stay tuned!
ABC shows (so far): 20/20, 9-1-1, Abbott Elementary, America's Funniest Home Videos, The Bachelor, Celebrity Jeopardy!, Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, Dancing with the Stars, Doctor Odyssey, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, The Golden Bachelorette, The Great Christmas Light Fight, Grey's Anatomy, High Potential, Press Your Luck, The Rookie, Scamanda, Shark Tank, Shifting Gears, What Would You Do? and Will Trent.

Tell your parents to crank up the Vcr because the greatest comedy stars of 1993 are teaming up for an epic night of dad jokes. You heard that right — ‘90s Tonight Show host Jay Leno is joining ‘90s sitcom superstar Tim Allen on a new episode of Allen’s Shifting Gears.
Leno likely took the role to flex his acting muscles, playing Guy Who Owns a Car. Allen, in what sounds like the Jay Leno role, stars as a curmudgeonly widow who owns a classic car restoration shop. In the upcoming episode, Leno brings his car in for repairs. Hilarity, no doubt, ensues.
It might sound like I’m joking when I say the episode could break the Boomer Internet, that curious intersection where MapQuest meets Lycos, but Allen’s new comedy is more popular than you think. Premiering in January, Shifting Gears is the season’s highest-rated sitcom and it’s not particularly close.

After crafting incredible musical dramas like A Star is Born and Maestro, Bradley Cooper is set to mount his next directorial as a comedy. The actor-filmmaker has been chasing the ever-elusive Academy Award with incredible performances and Oscar-bait movies, but this time, he seems to have changed the game.
Apart from co-starring, co-writing, and directing the upcoming Will Arnett starrer Is This Thing On?, Cooper will reportedly also operate the B camera. The comedy also stars Laura Dern, Sean Hayes, and Emily Blunt. Cooper previously made the musical biopic Meastro, which was nominated for Best Picture and Best Actor.

Wednesday nights are packed with great TV shows across the broadcast networks. Take a look at what we can watch tonight, Wednesday, Feb. 12.
This week will see reruns across the One Chicago block, but that’s the only network taking some time off. The breaks are normal for a lot of shows because of the way there are more weeks to fill than new episodes available. We will probably see more breaks later in the season and across other networks soon.
Wild Cards, The Masked Singer, and more
While there are certainly reruns on NBC, the other networks are packed with new episodes. In fact, one network has new seasons of its shows starting up! Yes!
The CW has a new episode of Wild Cards airing tonight, Wednesday, Feb. 12. When there’s the attempted murder of a prize stud horse at a family ranch, Max and Ellis need to track the guy down.

Emmy Season Isn’t Even in Full Swing, but ‘Hacks’ Has Already Emerged as Top Comedy Awards Contender

What a weekend. Just like “Anora,” which has fully jumped back into the Best Picture race, the television show “Hacks” also had an incredibly auspicious weekend, adding a PGA Award and DGA Award to join its Critics Choice Awards 2025 statue for Best Comedy Series.
Though other current reigning Emmy winners like “Shōgun,” “Baby Reindeer,” and “Ripley” were big winners as well, those shows have either ended or are far off from a new season, so their PGA and/or DGA Award wins have little effect on the upcoming Emmys race. But “Hacks” is expected to premiere its fourth season in the spring, most likely making it eligible for a possible back-to-back Outstanding Comedy Series win.
At the DGA Awards 2025, “Hacks” director and co-showrunner Lucia Aniello got emotional thanking the room full of peers for awarding her work directing the Season 3 finale “Bulletproof.” “I’m very proud to be a member of this union,...

Ever since he was a young boy — specifically, as a child actor on “Everybody Hates Chris” — Tyler James Williams knew he wanted to be a director. In his own words, he fell in love not just with being on TV, but with making TV, and he couldn’t wait to get behind the camera one day.
What he may not have expected was that his directorial debut would be one of the hardest “Abbott Elementary” episodes to shoot: Season 4, Episode 13, “Science Fair.”
“It wasn’t until we really started breaking it down, it was like, ‘Oh, this is huge,'” Williams told IndieWire after the episode aired. “There’s a scene where Janine (Quinta Brunson) is building the volcano with Clarissa (Amentii Sledge). She leaves her classroom and goes to Melissa’s classroom (Lisa Ann Walter). While we’re there, the Tiniest Kid (Dillion Blake Allen) runs in, steals the beakers,...

The Producers Guild of America Awards brought some clarity for the upcoming Oscars race as “Anora” took the evening’s top prize after it also won the top DGA prize for director Sean Baker just a few moments earlier as well as the Critics Choice award on Friday.
DreamWorks’ “The Wild Robot” gained momentum by earning the PGA animated film prize, while “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story,” which missed out on the Academy Awards shortlist, took home the PGA prize for Outstanding Producer of Documentary Motion Picture.
On the television side, “Hacks” followed up its strong showing from Friday’s Critics Choice Awards, landing the Danny Thomas Award for Outstanding Producer of Episodic Television – Comedy. Meanwhile, Netflix’s “Baby Reindeer” landed the David L. Wolper Award for Outstanding Producer of Limited or Anthology Series Television. Completing one of the most remarkable two-day stretches in awards-season history, “Anora” won the top feature film prize at the Producers Guild Awards on Saturday night. The victory came about an hour after its director, Sean Baker, won at the Directors Guild Awards two blocks away, and a little more than 24 hours after the film scored a surprise win for Best Picture at the Critics Choice Awards.
The Critics Choice/DGA/PGA trifecta took the Palme d’Or-winning tragicomedic indie from a film that didn’t seem to have much Oscar momentum to the closest thing to a frontrunner in this weird, unsettled season.
TheWrap ran into a dazed Baker in a corner of the lobby after his PGA win and commented, “Hell of a two days.” Baker smiled, shook his head and agreed. “Hell of a two days,” he said.

The Producers Guild of America had to delay the voting process and nominations announcement for its annual award show due to the Los Angeles wildfires, but the PGA Awards proceeded as planned tonight from the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles.
The guild award show, which is often seen as a barometer of the Best Picture race, is always watched closely by anyone looking to get a leg up on their Oscar ballots. And to anyone paying attention to the Oscar race, there was only one conclusion to draw from Saturday night: voters are high on “Anora.” Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or winner won the Darryl F. The most anticipated TV crossover event of the year just crossed over once again with Super Bowl Lix.
The stars of Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia showed their support for the Eagles, following the team’s 2018 win, as they arrived via private jet in New Orleans this weekend to watch their home team take on defending champs the Kansas City Chiefs.
“Oh hello New Orleans. #FlyEaglesFly,” It’s Always Sunny star and creator Rob McElhenney captioned a photo with wife and co-star Kaitlin Olson, as well as Abbott‘s Quinta Brunson and Tyler James Williams. The group posed in front of the plane in their Eagles green.
Brunson and McElhenney previously cheered on the Eagles together in a Sunday Night Football promo in November.
Their latest group trip comes after the first part of their crossover event aired last month with the Season 4 episode ‘Volunteers’ of ABC‘s Brunson-created Abbott Elementary.

Demi Moore scored a significant victory at the 30th Critics Choice Awards on Friday, winning Best Actress for her powerful dual role in the horror-comedy “The Substance.” The ceremony, relocated to Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar due to Los Angeles wildfires, marked a breakthrough moment for Moore and the horror film industry.
The 62-year-old actress delivered a career-defining performance as Elisabeth Sparkle, a character who encounters a mysterious youth-preserving drug that creates a younger version of herself. Moore’s portrayal has already earned her a Golden Globe and positioned her as a top contender for the upcoming Academy Awards.
During her acceptance speech, Moore challenged industry perceptions about horror films. “Normally horror films are overlooked and not seen for the profundity they can hold,” she said. She also offered words of encouragement to those facing career challenges, stating, “Just because it hasn’t happened doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.

Like it or not, network TV series typically live and die by their Nielsen ratings. It’s a pretty well-established fact that streaming has a sizable effect on ratings for shows that originate on broadcast networks. A new batch of data from Nielsen for this season shows just how big that impact can be.
The top 10 entertainment series (i.e., not sports or news programming) on the broadcast networks so far this season add an average of 2.85 million viewers from streaming alone a week after they air. Only two shows — CBS’ Tracker and Matlock — average 10 million viewers or more from linear viewing (including DVR playback) over seven days. With streaming included, five shows cross that mark, and two others are within 100,000 viewers of 10 million.
On average, the streaming audience among the top 10 shows makes up about 26 percent of their cross-platform, seven-day total among all viewers. But those viewers are decidedly younger than the ones who watch on-air or vida DVR: The top 10 series in the...

Exclusive: ABC is flexing its muscle with strong performances from freshman series High Potential and Shifting Gears, which have bolstered the broadcasters primetime lineup quite a bit.
As Deadline previously reported, High Potential became a quick hit for ABC when it debuted in September and kept up the momentum since it returned for midseason. The network says the series has continued to perform well, averaging 11.53M viewers per episode after seven days of viewing, making it the third most-watched broadcast entertainment series of the season.
ABC notes that the series really started to find its groove after moving an hour earlier to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays. Since then, it has averaged 13.73M viewers per episode.
Shifting Gears is closing in on High Potential, though, with 11.4M viewers per episode in the seven-day window. This is both quite impressive and requires a bit of context, since Shifting Gears premiered recently, on...

Ahead of a busy weekend on the awards circuit — the Critics Choice Awards, the PGA Awards, the DGA Awards — a veritable Hollywood who’s-who gathered on Thursday to celebrate the American Film Institute’s 10 finest films and television shows of 2024 in a luncheon event rescheduled from a month due to the devastating series of fires that ravaged the Los Angeles area.
And while there were quiet murmurings here and there about Emilia Pérez and the controversy enveloping its star Karla Sofia Gascón, the film was received with warm applause, if not an overabundance of enthusiasm, when it came time to play a clip. The movie was represented at the lunch by director Jacques Audiard, stars Zoe Saldaña, Edgar Ramirez, and Adriana Paz, and composers/songwriters Clément Ducol and Camille. Gascón, unsurprisingly, was a no-show, reportedly holed up in her native Spain after being sidelined by Netflix.

[Warning: The following story contains spoilers about the Feb. 5 episode of Abbott Elementary. Read at your own risk.]
While filming the penultimate episode of Season 3 of Abbott Elementary last year, Tyler James Williams casually mentioned something to Quinta Brunson.
“I was talking to Quinta about just some stuff that I was thinking about doing in the future and I was like, ‘You know, I think I would love to try kind of my hand at directing because I feel really comfortable with this crew and the camera department and the directors and the producers,'” Williams tells Gold Derby. “And she got really excited and immediately walked me over to [director and executive producer] Randall Einhorn, and was like, ‘Tyler wants to direct next year!’ And I was like, ‘I didn’t say that. I just said I wanted to at some point.'”
“At some point” was, in fact, the following season. Williams made his directorial debut with Wednesday’s episode, “Science Fair.” As Season 4 got underway,...

Spoiler Alert: This post contains details from Wednesday night’s episode of Abbott Elementary.
Gregory Eddie is a bit absent from Wednesday night’s episode of Abbott Elementary, which sees Mr. Morton (Jerry Minor) trying to entice the rest of the teachers to help facilitate the science fair, in part because Tyler James Williams spent this episode behind the camera instead.
The actor made his directorial debut with Episode 413 after toying with the idea of it “since I was a child, really,” Williams told Deadline.
“I think the first time I got interested in directing is when we did Everybody Hates Chris and Jerry Levine, who was our producing director, would just talk shots with me, and would let me look behind the camera and see how things worked and really educated me on the process, not from the perspective of a child, but from the perspective of an artist.

It's almost time for class to be in session once again with a new episode of Abbott Elementary season 4 this week! When we last saw the teachers and school, they had a good time at the opening of the golf club. But unfortunately, they were being used for charity day to make the club look good. We didn't expect anything less.
Though our favorite teachers, and Principal Ava of course, never go down without a fight. And they always think of their students first. So they're able to twist the golf club's arm into providing a club for Abbott students where they can hang out and learn how to play the sport. Wohoo! Plus, the city and bus drivers have come to an agreement, which means the strike is over. So what comes next in the story and when exactly can you watch?

“Abbott Elementary” is headed to the science fair.
In an exclusive video of Wednesday’s episode shared with TheWrap, Quinta Brunson’s Janine and Lisa Ann Walter’s Melissa guide their classes through the first steps of the science fair, beginning with selecting an idea.
“I’m gonna make a volcano,” one of Janine’s students tells her, to which Janine responds, “that sounds like a blast,” which gets a less than-enthusiastic response from her student.
Other ideas include finding which potato makes the brightest light, a water filtration project and a social experiment — which the student warns could be compromised if she says anything more “at this juncture.”
“As long as you don’t besmirch my name, go off,” Melissa replied to the social experiment.
When one of Janine’s students says he wants to burn things with a Bunsen burner to prove its fun to burn things, Janine doesn’t bat an eye,...

One of the first things that fans tend to point out in Kieran Culkin’s family drama Succession is how hilarious it is. Be it the constant ‘F*ck Offs’ from Brian Cox’s Logan Roy or lead star Jeremy Strong’s cringy rap song about his on-screen father, the show has multiple memorable moments that lend itself to hilarity.
However, the debate is on about whether Succession is a comedy or a drama (or a dramedy). Despite the funny instances, it is not along the same veins as say, Hacks or Abbott Elementary and has more dramatic conflicts than comedic. While fans have been debating this, actor Jeremy Strong reportedly even expressed the same to Culkin.

Sometimes, you have to lose yourself to find who you really are. In the case of Chadwick Boseman, who was taken from us far too soon, this quote rings true not only in his career choices but also in his personal battle. In a world where superheroes are meant to wear capes and conquer impossible odds, the late MCU actor was fighting a different kind of battle—a real one.
And while he was busy portraying royalty on the big screen, the reality was that the star of Black Panther was privately waging war against colon cancer, a fight he never publicly acknowledged until his death in August 2020.

There is a wildcard at every wedding, but in the case of “You’re Cordially Invited,” there are two. And they are played by Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon.
Now streaming on Prime, the film directed by Nicholas Stoller centers on two families who unknowingly double book their weddings at the same small inn — an inn that can really only accommodate one wedding. For Jim (Ferrell), it is his daughter’s, and for Margot (Witherspoon), it is her sister’s. Naturally, the two immediately go insane, trying to force the other to back down.
Somehow, Ferrell and Witherspoon have never led a comedy together, but they are doing it now with a very familiar cast.
Here are the major players you need to know.

We’re closer than ever to knowing a premiere date for “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” Season 17. Series co-creator and star Rob McElhenney told TheWrap that the FX comedy’s crossover with “Abbott Elementary” will premiere “sometime in June.”
“I think it’s going to be our premiere episode, just because we want to get it as close to when the ‘Abbott’ episode premiered, which was a couple of weeks ago,” McElhenney explained.
The showrunner also teased what to expect from the episode. The crossover shows two sides of the same story across these two very different sitcoms as the gang stops by Abbott Elementary to fulfill their court-mandated community service requirements.
The “Abbott” version of this story was fittingly wholesome for the ABC comedy. The Season 4 episode saw Dee (Kaitlin Olson) flirting with Gregory (Tyler James Williams), Frank (Danny DeVito) tackling a raccoon infestation with Mr. Johnson (William Stanford Davis...

There is one major event we’ve all been looking forward to tonight, Wednesday, Jan. 29. Take a look at everything airing on broadcast TV tonight.
Yes, we’re talking about the One Chicago crossover event. It’s the first real crossover in five years—although characters have turned up in different shows now and then—and this one is going to feel like a three-hour movie. It’s not the only show on TV to look forward to, though.
One Chicago, Hollywood Squares, and more
Let’s start with the crossover event, though. Chicago Fire is going to kick things off. This is usually the case when it comes to these crossover events. We often see the rescue to start, the medical team working on the injured in the middle, and then the police investigation at the end. However, this crossover is going to be more like the last one we got.

Abbott Elementary season 4 is back with a new episode this week, and it's going to be an intriguing one if we get to see what I think we get to see. The last two episodes have focused on the city bus drivers on strike, which meant that many students weren't able to get to school. I don't know if that storyline is going to continue in the new episode. But there another one we've been following that will be back in focus. We'll get to that in a moment. First, let's see when you can start watching.

St. Denis Medical — Pictured: David Alan Grier as Dr. Ron — (Photo by: Ron Batzdorff/NBC) 2024 NBCUniversal Media, LLC St. Denis Medical shares some of its DNA with shows like The Office and Abbott Elementary, mockumentary-style single-camera shows portraying the goings-on at somewhat skewed workplaces. With his background in sketch comedy, David Alan Grier was certainly an inspired choice to star as one of the fictional hospital’s emergency room physicians. And he spoke about how he’s a big fan of the mockumentary format, especially since today’s TV audiences have grown up with “reality” shows that took themselves way too seriously.
