In part due to the industry strikes of 2023. ABC had three times as many reality shows as scripted shows last season. Of the nine scripted series on the Alphabet Network, only seven are returning for ABC's 2024-25 season. Will we see more comedies and dramas this season? Stay tuned!
ABC shows (so far): The 100,000 Pyramid, 20/20, 9-1-1, Abbott Elementary, American Idol, America's Funniest Home Videos, The Bachelor, Celebrity Jeopardy!, Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, The Conners, Dancing with the Stars, Doctor Odyssey, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, The Golden Bachelorette, The Great Christmas Light Fight, Grey's Anatomy, High Potential, Jeopardy! Masters, Press Your Luck, The Rookie, Scamanda, Shark Tank, Shifting Gears, What Would You Do? and Will Trent.
There's lots of data that network execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are a major ingredient.

Peyton and Eli Manning really want to develop their acting careers, if Disney’s upfront show is to be believed.
The Mouse House highlighted its sports programming more than anything else during its annual presentation to ad buyers Tuesday in New York City, parading the Mannings and several other star athletes in front of ad buyers and even connecting scripted Disney content back to what happens on the court and field.
The presentation opened with a marching band performance that lasted for more than five minutes, made up of musicians from Jackson State and Delaware State plus a gameday-ready Mickey Mouse as drum major. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley were next to take the stage at New York’s Javits Center, with Mahomes praising the “boldly original, fiercely competitive, undoubtedly magical” storytelling that makes Disney “the ultimate M.V.P.” before introducing Iger.

Far be it for us to start our look inside the lead-up to the 2025 Emmys on a depressing note, but much like how the Los Angeles wildfires were the elephant in the room during Oscar season, if a series was shot in LA has become a major talking point at for your consideration events.
Even before the fires, the organization FilmLA reported that filming in the city was at the lowest it had been in three decades (not counting the time the world was in lockdown due to Covid-19). And the number of productions has continued to plummet, even with the natural disasters only having a minimal impact on regional filming.
Keep in mind, even more so than the increasingly global Academy Awards, the Primetime Emmys are awards voted on by industry peers, with these FYC events happening mostly in Los Angeles and almost daily from March through June. So...

Sports are becoming the bane of our existence these days.
We’ve already lamented that NBC’s acquisition of basketball has decimated most of its scripted programming, to our abject horror and disgust.
However, things are a bit brighter on ABC’s 2025 Fall schedule, which includes scripted programming. We’ll just have to ignore the pesky football effect on two of the network’s heaviest hitters.
(Disney/Tina Thorpe) Football and Reality TV Dominate
Once again, ABC will be airing Monday Night Football, so the network loses out on primetime scripting for a full night.
It’s worked to their advantage, though, and they’re able to stack the rest of the week with some of its best programming.
Tuesdays, for example, will feature the hit competition series Dancing with the Stars, and Wednesday will see the business-geared reality TV hit Shark Tank switch over from Friday night, getting a...

ABC’s fairly stable schedule for the start of the 2025-26 season is the product of not just a successful preceding season, but several years of work, Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich says.
The network hasn’t ordered a lot of new scripted series in recent seasons — the highest single total was five in 2022-23 — but it has gone all in on marketing the handful of shows it has picked up. That has helped build a roster of newer shows to run alongside long-time staples like Grey’s Anatomy and The Rookie, Erwich told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview Tuesday ahead of Disney’s upfront.
“Three years ago, we launched Abbott Elementary. The year after that, it was Will Trent. This past year, High Potential, which is the most successful streaming show this calendar year,” Erwich said. “It really validates that strategy.”

ABC sets fall 2025 primetime schedule (Photo Credits: ABC)
ABC’s fall 2025 primetime lineup looks a lot like its 2024 fall schedule. The network’s coming off a season where it claimed all five of the top spots against its competition in the coveted adults 18 to 49 demographic. High Potential took the #1 spot, followed by Abbott Elementary, The Rookie, 9-1-1, and Shifting Gears.
“ABC dominated this season in multiplatform ratings, which are the most relevant metrics that reflect how audiences are consuming television today,” said Craig Erwich, president, Disney Television Group. “We are meeting viewers where they are, and this achievement really highlights our strategic approach and commitment to creative excellence. Looking ahead, we’re all about maintaining stability, delivering quality, and driving innovation, with new shows and returning favorites from some of the industry’s top creators and biggest stars.”

Meet the Makers: Going Dutch and Animal Control
There are plenty of similarities to be found between Fox’s two live-action comedies, Joel McHale’s “Animal Control” and Denis Leary’s “Going Dutch.” Both are single-camera workplace comedies with characters in uniform: A quirky group of animal control workers in Seattle on “Animal Control,” and a quirky group of U.S. Army soldiers stationed on a tiny Netherlands base on “Going Dutch.” Making things even more personal, McHale’s “Community” co-star Danny Pudi now stars opposite Leary on “Going Dutch.”
So how about a crossover inside the Fox comedyverse? “It makes perfect sense,” Leary said during the Variety FYC TV Fest. “The guys who are the creators of ‘Animal Control’ are guys I’ve worked with before. Great writers. And we actually discussed it at some point last year. So let’s talk Fox into it. But Fox hasn’t mentioned it.

Ahead of the Season 16 finale of Shark Tank, which will officially say goodbye to long-time shark Mark Cuban in an emotional tribute (see more on that here), ABC has revealed some key details about what’s next for Season 17. Here’s what we know so far. When will Shark Tank Season 17 premiere? A premiere date for the next season of Shark Tank hasn’t been revealed, but ABC has added it to its fall 2025 schedule, and with a big change: The show is moving to Wednesday nights at 10/9c instead of its longtime Friday timeslot. This is a big change for the show indeed after years of airing on Friday evenings. (Airing on Fridays instead of Shark Tank for the fall season will be Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.) Shark Tank Season 17 will follow a comedy and reality block that includes Shifting Gears Season 2, Abbott Elementary Season 5, and The Golden Bachelor...

ABC is keeping things stable next fall, making only a handful of tweaks to a schedule that mostly looks similar to last year’s lineup. That means just one new series has been added to the mix so far — “9-1-1: Nashville,” which will easily slide into the Thursday 9 p.m. slot behind mother ship “9-1-1.”
“Our strategy over the past few years has to been really focused on launching just a few shows every year, and it’s borne out,” said Craig Erwich, president, Disney Television Group, pointing to the success last season of freshmen “High Potential” and “Shifting Gears,” and before that, “Will Trent.”
“We don’t want to make a lot of moves, because I think it can be confusing, and it really works against focus and stability. So we were able really platform a few shows. ‘9-1-1: Nashville’ obviously will be a big priority for us.

The second season of “The Golden Bachelor” and new spinoff series “9-1-1: Nashville” will lead ABC’s 2025-26 schedule.
The second installment of “The Golden Bachelor,” which follows NFL alum Mel Owens, will air Wednesdays at 9 p.m., following new episodes of “Shifting Gears” and “Abbott Elementary” this fall. After the reality series, ABC will usher in a new time slot for “Shark Tank,” which moves from its previous Friday spot to air Wednesdays at 10 p.m.
Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich told TheWrap the Wednesday 10 p.m. timeslot has had recent success in the past year but has had several shows cycle through, so they wanted what he calls a “signature show” in the hour. “Shark Tank” is “a show that’s beloved, that the audience knows where to find it, that the audience will seek it out.” Erwich also noted it will offer a strong lead-in for local news at 11 p.

The schedule ABC is rolling out for the start of the 2025-26 season looks very similar to the one it had in 2024-25.
The network has made a couple of moves — 911 spinoff 911: Nashville joins the Thursday lineup, and Shark Tank is going from Friday to Wednesday nights — but ABC has opted for a mostly stable lineup. 911: Nashville is the only new series on the fall slate.
That stability “is both a strategy and also a byproduct of our success,” Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview Tuesday morning. ABC has all five of the top entertainment series this season among adults 18-49 (High Potential, Abbott Elementary, The Rookie, 911 and Shifting Gears), based on Nielsen’s cross-platform ratings.

July 9 truly can't come fast enough because it's finally going to be the premiere of It's Alway Sunny in Philadelphia season 17 on FX. We're huge fans of the raunchy comedy series, and it's always hilarious to see what messy shenanigans the gang gets up to. Pair that with the fact that I'm also an Abbott Elementary fan... I've been living the best of both worlds with the crossover episodes.
The first one aired as an Abbott episode Jan. 8, 2025 on ABC, which was season 4 episode 9, "Volunteers." It's not confirmed yet, but things do indicate that the premiere of It's Always Sunny season 17 will feature the highly-anticipated event. “The White Lotus” star Walton Goggins began his first time hosting “Saturday Night Live” on May 10 reflecting on the internet’s particular interest in his character, Rick Hatchett. And he had the receipts to prove it.
“No spoilers, but I die. My character in ‘White Lotus’ is pretty brooding, which the internet seemed to find attractive,” Goggins said. “Some of my friends have even asked me, ‘Walton, what’s it like to become a sex symbol at 53 years old?’ And you know what, if I’m being honest, it feels fantastic.”
Goggins then proceeded to pull up media headlines as receipts, including Cosmopolitan’s article titled “Are We All Horny for Walton Goggins’s Receding Hairline?” Goggins responded by quipping: “I’ve had the same hairline since I was seven. It’s not receding, it’s holding its ground.”

Since the release of The Office, the documentary-styled sitcom theme has become very popular in the US. That’s what gave birth to shows like Parks and Recreation, Arrested Development, and even Abbott Elementary. But while most shows explained the reason behind their mockumentary format, Modern Family received some side-eyes for never giving a solid reason why cameras were all up in the Dunphys’ business.
Turns out, while The Office spent years explaining the why, how, and awkward silence of the mockumentary style, Modern Family just swooped in and cashed in on the idea. And quite naturally, that did not sit well in Scranton. Sure, both shows became comedy gold, but The Office crew took some offense at Modern Family’s sneaky success.

ABC’s smash-hit procedural drama Will Trentis about to lay its third season to rest, with an upcoming finale titled "Listening to a Heartbeat" bringing a chaotic, life-threatening virus to the city of Atlanta, all whilst Ramon Rodriguez's titular Georgia Bureau of Investigation (Gbi) detective faces demons from his past. The episode promises to be one of the most pulsating of the entire show thus far, with no expense spared in the ending of perhaps the best season of the procedural to date.
"Unleashed by a domestic terrorist group, a mysterious biological attack runs rampant in Atlanta," the synopsis begins, suggesting Will and co might be about to face their most tricky problem yet. "As Will and his team race to contain the threat and save countless lives, he’s forced to confront the complex dynamics of his own family," the synopsis then concludes, with the drama surrounding Will's biological father taking another twist.

The Emmy race for Best Drama Actor just received a shot of adrenaline.
For the first time since Gold Derby's 2025 Emmys predictions center opened in February, Noah Wyle is leading the odds in this topsy-turvy category. The Pitt star has overtaken Adam Scott (Severance), who has been in the No. 1 position since early March. Before that, Gary Oldman (Slow Horses) was the frontrunner.
Max's real-time hospital drama has been on a major upswing since its final episodes streamed in April. In one buzzed-about moment, Wyle's character, Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, had a mental breakdown after a concert shooting brought dozens of patients into his emergency room, including his quasi-stepson's new girlfriend. Wyle is a five-time Emmy nominee for ER (1995-99), but this would be his first win.
For Best Drama Series, The Pitt is now tied with The Last of Us in second place, both behind Severance. Taylor Dearden as...

“Abbott Elementary” and “Ghosts” are two of the greatest comedies on TV, period. Yes, I know they’re broadcast shows — but that’s my point. Until recently, that was considered a knock when it came to awards and critical acclaim. Not in 2025.
Everyone loves a story about the rise of the underdog, and broadcast is definitely experiencing one. After too many years of being the place where you sold your lesser (but extremely profitable!) work, broadcast has been lauded as once again a cool place to produce.
It started, of course, with the “Netflix effect.” What have people been bingeing at the streamers? Why, broadcast series like “The Office,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “NCIS” — the kinds of shows with deep libraries because they came from broadcast’s 22- or 24-episode seasons.
Remember the good ol’ days, when the TV season lasted from September to May, 100 episodes (after around four years!) brought...

9-1-1 fans are still recovering from the tragic and shocking loss of Peter Krause’s Captain Bobby Nash. With Season 8 airing its finale soon, viewers have another reason to worry: Ryan Guzman seems to be teasing his departure from the show.
Ryan Guzman made his debut as Eddie Diaz, a firefighter and paramedic, in 9-1-1 Season 2. He has appeared in 112 episodes so far, although fans have been speculating that the actor might depart the show. In a new series of Instagram Stories on his social media account, Guzman fed into the rumors with two unexpected clips.
One of the clips showed him on the Fox lot, revealing that it was his last day on set. He also noted he would miss Stage 6, where the show is filmed, showing a plaque with the show's name alongside other films and television series filmed at the lot.

It’s razzle-dazzle time for TV.
The largest platforms will converge in New York the week of May 12 to show off new content and put the hard sell on Madison Avenue for advertising commitments.
Upfronts week isn’t the make-or-break moment for the TV biz that it once was. CBS has bowed out of hosting a presentation, opting for smaller events in multiple cities. ABC and NBC are part of larger pitches for parent companies Disney and Comcast. Amazon and Netflix have joined the parade.
No matter who’s in and who’s out, upfronts week is still an annual mile marker and a time for every network to take stock. Below, Variety breaks down the hits, misses and needs of the major players as they tubthump their upcoming lineups.

It’s been a minute, but guess what? The Gang is back— It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is returning for its seventeenth season, and we’re not even close to done with these chaotic masterminds. Nearly two years after the last season aired, the long-running comedy that’s become a cult favorite (and meme goldmine) is gearing up to bless our screens once again, and let’s be honest, we’ve missed them.
For a show that’s never been afraid to get weird, go dark, or push the envelope in the most unhinged way possible, Sunny remains a pop culture juggernaut. Whether it’s Charlie’s illiterate antics, Dee’s cursed acting career, or Frank being… Frank, the series has carved out a legendary space in TV history, one messy scheme at a time.
What’s in store this time? A crossover twist, maybe some jail time, and definitely more wildly inappropriate adventures.

Apple TV+ is working on releasing a new sci-fi action comedy; the new original from Apple – Murderbot, which has been turning heads since its trailer was released, is about a security robot that is owned by a company that gives out robots to be used as tools for space missions.
Since it’s an Apple TV+ show, they are not going to make just another series that blurs the line between humans and machines. That has been done plenty of times; they are known to go all in with creators, writing, and most importantly, the casting. If Apple’s track record shows anything, it’s that they almost always nail these aspects.
Be it Shrinking, Ted Lasso, or The Studio, you can always see yourself pointing at the screen, excited to see an actor you adore doing some silly roles. The same is seen with the casting of Murderbot, from Alexander Skarsgård,...

After a rough few years in the broadcast landscape, the 2024-25 season has brought in some rays of hope.
To be sure, the long-term structural challenges for network TV remain in a world where streaming is the default platform for the largest share of viewers and ongoing corporate consolidation continues to shrink the number of potential suppliers (and buyers) of shows. But several network shows have achieved breakout status in the past year, and each of the big four broadcasters (ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC) can claim at least one success story among their crop of first-year series. The fact that networks are also the primary suppliers of the long-running, deep-library shows that keep streaming services humming also seems to have sunk in across the industry.
About that corporate consolidation: The past year has continued the trend of media company reorganization. Both Paramount and Disney closed studios (Paramount TV Studios...

“SNL 50” is nearing the end, with only two more episodes to go this season, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to turn things down quite yet. For her second round hosting at Studio 8H, Quinta Brunson pumped up the volume, kicking off the show with a musical monologue that featured both pop star Sabrina Carpenter and basketball phenom Dwayne Wade, then filling out each sketch with energy and dynamism. Not everything landed perfectly, with the writing of many of the live bits feeling like the staff are just going through the motions, but Brunson’s ability to commit to each role and work seamlessly off the cast more than made up for it.
It’s been a while since a “Saturday Night Live” monologue really stood out, particularly this season with so many return hosts effecting a been-there-done-that attitude, but between Jack Black’s crowd work in his...

“Abbott Elementary” star and creator Quinta Brunson is short and isn’t afraid to flaunt it. Hosting “Saturday Night Live” for the second time on May 3, Brunson opted to deliver her opening monologue in musical form, breaking into song and singing about the many benefits and joys of being short. “Shorties, tonight, this one’s for us,” Brunson, flanked by dancers, said, shouting out perks like getting “wasted on one glass of wine” and wearing crop tops as dresses.
Brunson’s next verse shouted out some of Hollywood’s shortest and highest-achieving celebrities, including 4’8” Olympian Simone Biles, 5’7” actor Tom Holland and 5’5” Kendrick Lamar. Continuing to dance and sing her way through the monologue, Brunson was joined on stage by “Short N’ Sweet” songstress Sabrina Carpenter, who joked about their mutual experiences being short. “When you eat short rib, does it just taste like rib? When you read short stories, are they just novels?...

Quinta Brunson returns to Saturday Night Live tonight to host the show for a second time. She arrives back at Studio 8H with an ever bigger net worth than the last time around.
Brunson will help Saturday Night Live kick off May and the home stretch of season 50. The Abbott Elementary creator and star last hosted the show on April 1, 2023.
Now she's back for the second time. And Brunson comes to Saturday Night Live in 2025 boasting a net worth at an estimated $9 million (per CelebrityNetWorth).
To no surprise, a bulk of Brunson's net worth can be attributed to Abbott Elementary. The comedy has been a hit for ABC and made Brunson an in-demand name in entertainment. And if the show can get to syndication, Brunson will cash in even more.
CelebrityNetWorth estimates Brunson could earn as much as $50 million if her show goes into syndication. Traditionally, a show needs 100 episodes...

Rejoice, Little House on the Prairie fans. You might never think a reboot of the hit 1970s series starring Michael Landon would be worth watching, but Netflix will make a run at it.
The series was previously rumored to be heading toward pre-production, and this week, Netflix delivered the news about who will make up the main cast. Some of the faces are familiar, but not all—just the way Netflix planned.
There is little else known at this time about the number of episodes or the release date, but at least knowing the cast is a start. Here is what we know so far.

Luke Bracey (Elvis) and Crosby Fitzgerald (Palm Royale) have been cast as the parents, Charles Ingalls and Caroline Ingalls while Skywalker Hughes (Joe Pickett) is set to play their eldest daughter, Mary Ingalls. The trio join Alice Halsey who has landed the role of the Ingalls’ second daughter and series’ narrator Laura.
