A topic rarely explored on screen with such nuance, The Ceiling, directed by Louisa Connolly-Burnham, delves into the often-overlooked reality of sexual assault within dating contexts. Written and performed by Louisa Sexton, the script emerged from candid conversations about how such violations are frequently normalised. Connolly-Burnham directs an uncomfortably intimate viewing experience which mirrors her protagonist’s psychological journey, employing long uninterrupted shots that force viewers to experience each moment in real time, before shifting modes to incorporate fragmented imagery and slow motion to make the experience of dissociation tangible for viewers. This short film stands as a powerful exploration of the complexities of consent, offering a cinematic portrayal of arousal non-concordance with remarkable sensitivity. Through its restrained storytelling and thoughtful visual approach, The Ceiling gives voice to experiences that too often remain unspoken, while creating an environment where the importance of active consent becomes unmistakably clear. As Connolly-Burnham premieres The Ceiling with Dn,...

The Star Wars Celebration event in Japan may have concluded, but exciting news concerning that infamous galaxy far, far away continues to trickle in.
Screen Rant had the opportunity to speak with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy at the event, and she offered a promising update on the long-awaited Star Wars film being helmed by the award-winning Taika Waititi.
While fans eagerly anticipate Waititi's unique vision for the franchise, Kennedy clarified that the primary factor delaying the start of production is the director's own busy schedule.
"Taika is on Taika time," Kennedy playfully admitted to to the site. "I’ve just continually said to him, look, when you feel that you’re ready and you can really devote the time, we’re going to do it. We’ll be waiting. I’m just hoping we get there. That will be a great Star Wars movie."

There are a lot of elements that go into making a movie great, from the screenplay, to the direction, and even the editing. It's not uncommon for the main factor to be the actors, as is the case for some of the worst movies ever made. Some of the best "so bad it's good" movies of all time have performances that are so terrible, they're somehow more memorable than some of their actors' greater roles. However, being in a bad movie hasn't stopped some actors from maintaining their reputations in Hollywood.
As proven time and time again, actors cannot be judged by the quality of their worst movies. Some undoubtedly incredible actors have made misguided choices in their careers, whether it's a poor attempt at gaining mainstream attention or a project that just simply didn't come out they way they intended. For years, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were ridiculed...

Upcoming comedy The Roses, starring Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch as a warring couple, arrives in August. Have a trailer:
On paper, everything about Searchlight’s upcoming remake of the 1989 dark comedy, The War Of The Roses looks to be in order. You get Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch as the unhappy couple, delivering withering put-downs in a steadily escalating conflict that gets rather out of hand.
Plus, it has Jay Roach at the helm, a filmmaker who knows how to craft a big studio comedy, not to mention a script from Poor Things and The Favourite writer Tony McNamara. This doesn’t look like it will have the frisson of the Danny DeVito film that starred Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, though. The original War Of The Roses was a continuation of the chemistry the duo perfected in 1984’s Romancing The Stone and the following year’s sequel, The Jewel Of The Nile.

Both Europe’s most right-wing nation and its second hottest destination for international shoots, Hungary has shocked the world with its recent ban on LGBTQ+ public events. But Hollywood is not yet ready to give up on the country’s generous tax incentives.
An amendment to the constitution passed on Monday by the Hungarian parliament codifies a law passed in March that made it an offense to hold or attend events that violate Hungary’s “child protection” legislation, which prohibits the “depiction or promotion” of homosexuality to minors under 18.
The Hungarian government will use measures to enforce the ban including the use of facial recognition software to identify those attending LGBTQ+ public events — such as Budapest Pride — and infractions can come with fines of up to 200,000 Hungarian forints ($546).
It’s not Hungary’s first anti-lgbtq+ law. Back in 2021, the country’s parliament passed a law forbidding the dissemination of content...

Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman play a picture-perfect married couple who descend into a bitter cat-and-dog divorce battle in the trailer for The Roses, director Jay Roach’s dark comedy.
Cumberbatch is Theo, whose career nosedives while Ivy (Colman) sees her ambitions take off just as their increasingly competitive and resentful marriage leads to a bracingly nasty divorce battle to divide up what they own.
“Things are getting a little hand,” a deadpanning Theo tells a menacingly angry Ivy at one point in the trailer, as she points a pistol in his direction.
Amid screaming matches and food fights, Theo and Ivy fight to the finish in the reimagining of the 1989 classic film The War of the Roses, which was based on the novel by Warren Adler and had Danny DeVito directing leads Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner.

Even before Hereditary and Midsommar director Ari Aster’s most recent film, Beau Is Afraid, was released back in April of 2023, there were rumblings that his next project would be a “western noir dark comedy” called Eddington. This is a project Aster would be circling back to, because at one time he thought Eddington was going to be his first feature. Soon enough, it was confirmed that the “contemporary western that takes place during the pandemic” would be his fourth film – and just last week, it was announced that Eddington will be screening at the 78th Annual Cannes Film Festival in May before receiving a theatrical release on July 18th. With its Cannes screening swiftly approaching, a trailer for the film has dropped online, and you can check it out in the embed above. A poster has also been unveiled; that can be seen at the bottom of this article.

From the moment I saw it, I could tell that #1 Happy Family USA was either going to go very right or very wrong. The basic hook of a Muslim-American family living through post-9/11 culture is a solid one for a sitcom, but also one that could easily indulge in harmful, racist stereotypes in the wrong hands.
Thankfully, the hands of stand-up comedian and Poor Things star Ramy Youssef were the right ones; as the series is consistently funny, politically inciteful, and oddly enough, deeply sad thanks in no small part to how compelling and relatable its core cast of characters and their struggles truly are.

Days after A24 released the first image from Ari Aster’s Eddington, the film got another exciting look. The first trailer for Eddington has officially been released, and it will serve as the follow-up to Beau Is Afraid, the 2023 mind-twisting psychological thriller starring Joaquin Phoenix and Amy Ryan. Aster will reunite with Phoenix for Eddington, which also stars Emmy nominee Pedro Pascal and two-time Oscar winner Emma Stone. The film is a contemporary Western following a standoff between a small-town sheriff and a mayor that sparks a powder keg of a matchup in the small town of Eddington, New Mexico. The trailer is set almost entirely on social media, with characters from the film providing their input on socioeconomic issues like the Covid-19 pandemic. Eddington will also star Austin Butler, who recently featured in Dune: Part Two, and Luke Grimes, the Yellowstone veteran who is also known for his work on Fifty Shades of Grey.

Alex Garland returns to the war drama genre, but this time sets it during a real war instead of a dystopian future like Civil War. A24’s Warfare is co-directed by Garland along with Iraq War veteran and former Navy Seal Roy Mendoza, who makes his directorial debut. The film is based on Mendoza’s experiences in Iraq, during the Battle of Ramadi.
The film was released this week to mostly positive reviews, with critics praising the craft and set pieces. It stars Will Poulter, D’Pharaoh Woon-a-Tai, Cosmo Jarvis, Joseph Quinn, and more, as Mendoza’s real-life brothers-in-arms, although only two of them, including Mendoza, came forward with their real identities.
As the film releases this week, fans surely want to know every detail regarding the experience, including whether Alex Garland and Roy Mendoza’s film Warfare has a post-credits scene or not.

When fans talk about the Spider-Man movies, they often debate one question: which female lead was the best in the franchise? While some love Mary Jane from the original Spider-Man movies, others prefer Mj from the recent ones featuring Tom Holland. However, most of them agree that it was Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man movies that truly stood out.
Thanks to one smart decision taken by the producer of the project, who detailed that Stacy wasn’t just the love interest of Peter Parker, but she was smart and more than capable of taking her own decisions.

Played by actress Emma Stone, Gwen Stacy became a character who mattered to the story, something that even Zendaya’s Mj cannot come close to.

According to its press release, the new album’s 12 tracks see him muse on the dual upbringings he received bouncing between divorced parents, one marked by the “devil-may-care spirit” of north Florida and the other by the “relatively privileged but pressured” life of a Catholic school student in Tennessee.

Wes Anderson brought the impossibly twee “The Phoenician Scheme” to Las Vegas while Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone showcased the creepy, bee-filled “Bugonia” at CinemaCon.

In the trailer, which hasn’t been made available to the public, Zsa-zsa Korda survives a plane crash (his sixth!) and decides to take that as a sign — so he arranges to bestow his estate to his daughter. In just a few years since “The Favourite” premiered in 2018, Yorgos Lanthimos has gone from idiosyncratic independent filmmaker to full-fledged industry darling, racking up Oscar nominations and other accolades for his bold, distinctive work. He’s become a true auteur, and like many great auteurs, the Greek director has taken his new caché to explore brand new mediums, via an emerging side-passion in still photography.
Last year, Lanthimos published two new photography books, “i shall sing these songs beautifully” and “Dear God, the Parthenon is Still Broken.” Each book consists of photos taken during the production of his last two films, “Poor Things” and “Kinds of Kindness,” and features many of the actors from both films modeling for him. Now, Lanthimos has hit another milestone in his nascent photography career with an exhibition of his work at MacK + Webber at 939, an art gallery in Downtown Los Angeles.

Yorgos Lanthimos started taking pictures on set out of necessity. “We didn’t have an on set photographer when we were making little films in Greece,” the Oscar-nominated auteur recalls. “I would take my own for publicity, but I enjoyed it at the same time.” That pleasure has multiplied to become a full-fledged passion.

Benedict Cumberbatch remains as busy as ever these days, with no less than three movies premiering in 2025. The Roses is a remake of War Of The Roses, starring Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch. It’s arriving this very summer.
While we often roll our eyes at Hollywood’s lack of originality and continued reliance on remakes, we’re looking forward to Fox Searchlight’s upcoming remake of the 1989 dark comedy, The War Of The Roses.
It has Jay Roach at the helm, a filmmaker who knows how to craft a big studio comedy, not to mention a script from Poor Things and The Favourite writer Tony McNamara, who imbued both of those films humour that ranged from slapstick to biting to outright shocking.
Also, this is an anglicised take on the Danny DeVito film that starred Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner in a continuation of the love-hate onscreen pairing the duo perfected in 1984’s Romancing The Stone and its sequel, 1985’s The Jewel Of The Nile.

But beneath the façade of their supposed ideal life, a storm is brewing – as Theo’s career nosedives while Ivy’s own ambitions take off, a tinderbox of fierce competition and hidden resentment ignites.” The film also stars Andy Samberg, Allison Janney, Ncuti Gatwa, Jamie Demetriou, Zoë Chao, Belinda Bromilow, and Kate McKinnon. Tony McNamara (Poor Things) wrote the script. We may see the first trailer dropped during CinemaCon next week.

Although highly regarded as a theater star -- he earned a Tony nomination in 2006 for "Awake and Sing!" and just returned years later to Broadway in "The Price" -- Mark Ruffalo is for most people a bona fide movie star. For his film performances, he has been nominated for three Oscars, two Golden Globes and four Screen Actors Guild Awards, winning one as part of the ensemble cast of "Spotlight" in 2015.
These days, however, Ruffalo's greatest fame is largely thanks to his being part of the Marvel universe, having taken over the roles of Dr. Bruce Banner and The Hulk in 2012's "Marvel's The Avengers." After a cameo performance in 2013's "Iron Man 3," Ruffalo's Hulk also appeared in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" in 2015, "Thor: Ragnarok" in 2017 and the final "The Avengers" movies.

A mysterious outbreak at an international airport marks the explosive beginning of Silent Zone, a post-apocalyptic action-horror film that throws viewers headfirst into a world spiralling toward collapse. Containment efforts fail almost immediately, and within days, the streets are overrun with the infected—aggressive, ravenous, and disturbingly relentless. Civilization falls swiftly, and survival becomes the only priority.
In the heart of this chaos is five-year-old Abigail (Katalin Krenn), who watches in horror as her mother and younger brother Lucas are brutally attacked. Abigail’s fate seems sealed until she’s rescued by Cassius, a battle-worn former soldier. In a grim twist, he is forced to shoot Abigail’s reanimated mother in front of her – an early signal that Silent Zone isn’t pulling any emotional punches.

Fremantle profits were up by nearly a quarter last year but the much-vaunted €3B ($3.3B) turnover target appears to have been pushed back indefinitely.
For full year 2024, The Poor Things super-indie’s adjusted Ebita shot up by 23% to €171M, its highest to date. Fremantle-owner Rtl put this down to “significantly lower overhead costs and the first-time profit contribution from Asacha Media Group,” which the outfit acquired at the start of last year at a cost of €200M when the acquisition of 80% of Singapore’s Beach House Pictures was included. Adjusted Ebita margin was up by 1.5 percentage points to 7.6%, with a target of 9% set for 2025.
Rtl pointed to 2024 success stories including Oscar-winner Poor Things, hit Amazon YA series Maxton Hall, Kim Kardashian-produced doc Elizabeth Taylor: Rebel Superstar and U.S. entertainment smashes like Family Feud and The Farmer Wants A Wife.
But turnover at the Element Pictures-owner slid slightly to €2.25M,...
