House of David tells the story of the ascent of the biblical figure, David, who eventually becomes the most renowned and celebrated king of Israel. The series follows the once-mighty King Saul as he falls victim to his own pride.

At the direction of God, the prophet Samuel anoints an unlikely, outcast teenager as the new king. As Saul loses his power over his kingdom, David finds himself on a journey to discover and fulfill his destiny, navigating love, loss, and violence in the court of the very man he’s destined to replace. Sophie Judge, a Sky vet who had been with the pay-tv giant for 15 years, replaces Rachel Bailey and is rejoining UKTV as Global Acquisitions Manager after a stint with the channel group in the 2000s. She will be responsible for sourcing and securing shows from third parties for BBC Studios-owned UKTV’s portfolio of free-to-air and pay channels and free streaming service U, along with BBC Studios’ global branded services. Recent buys have included Prison Break, The Chelsea Detective and MasterChef Australia. Today, Prime Video announced the premiere date for the upcoming biblical drama series, House of David, and revealed eight first-look images. House of David comes from visionary filmmakers Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn (Ordinary Angels).

The series will premiere on February 27, 2025, on Prime Video with three episodes and one episode weekly thereafter in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

The series stars Michael Iskander as David, who was cast following a four-month international search and is fresh off his role in the Tony Award-winning musical, Kimberly Akimbo.

House of David also stars Ali Suliman as King Saul, Ayelet Zurer as Queen Ahinoam, Saul’s trusted wife, Stephen Lang as Samuel, and Martyn Ford as Goliath.

BBC Studios & Zdf Renew Partnership

BBC Studios and Germany’s Zdf today announced at Content London that they’ve renewed their long-term strategic partnership on scripted content. The two broadcasters have said the multi-year deal will extend co-productions on scripted TV content, with Zdf and BBC Studios partnering to co-produce titles across the BBC Studios’ content pipeline. The new agreement also extends to first option on pre-sales and acquisitions across BBC Studios’ catalog available in Germany. Acquisitions already confirmed include Death in Paradise S13-14, Beyond Paradise S1-2, and The Outlaws S2-3. The original partnership with Zdf was forged in 2019. Ther collaborations include A Good Girls Guide to Murder, The Famous Five Series 1, Kidnapped: The Chloe Ayling Story, and The Chelsea Detective.

Exclusive: Harry Potter star Tom Felton has boarded Gandhi, the Hansal Mehta-directed streaming series about the iconic Indian nonviolent resistance leader from Applause Entertainment.

Felton will play Josiah Oldfield, Gandhi’s first and best friend during a period he spent in London while studying law. Pratik Gandhi (no relation) is playing Gandhi, as we reported back in May 2022, and we can reveal his real-life partner, Bhamini Oza, will play Kasturba Gandhi, the Mahatma’s wife.

The period drama series has been billed as India’s answer to The Crown, and several scenes are being shot in London this month. As such, British actors James Murray, Jonno Davies, Molly Wright (Apostasy), Simon Lennon, Ralph Adeniyi, Libby Mai and Lindon Alexander are joining Felton in the cast.

Adrian Schiller, the British actor who starred as Lord Aethelhelm in the Netflix drama series The Last Kingdom, has died. He was 60.

Schiller died on April 3 of unspecified causes, his agent, Amanda Evans at Scott Marshall Partners in the U.K., confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. “It is with the heaviest and saddest hearts that we announce the death of our beloved client, Adrian Schiller, on Wednesday 3 April. He has died far too soon, and we, his family and close friends are devastated by the loss,” the U.K. talent agency said in a statement.

Schiller’s sudden death followed a star turn in Australia in The Lehman Trilogy, where he performed the role of Henry Lehman in the touring production.

Exclusive: The international boss of ITN Productions (Itnp), the production outfit behind Prince Harry: The Interview, has detailed scripted ambitions including a desire to make a show that breaks free from its factual-led comfort zone.

ITN produces the ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 news in the UK but has built up a mini production powerhouse over the past few years, making hundreds of hours of fast-turnarounds, documentaries, and factual entertainment shows including for major streamers, while broadening its U.S. offering. Itnp has now entered the scripted space, unveiling its debut drama, Cush Jumbo-starring Lifetime movie Girl in the Video, late last week.

The Chelsea Detective is returning for its second season later this month on Acorn TV. The streaming service has announced the return of the British crime drama with the release of a trailer. Season two sees the addition of a new partner for Detective Inspector Max Arnold.

Starring Adrian Scarborough and Vanessa Emme, the season will consist of four episodes, each with a mystery ready for the pair to solve in the area of West Chelsea in London. Sophie Stone, Lucy Phelps, Peter Bankolé, Anamaria Marinca, and Frances Barber also star in the series.

Exclusive: Acorn TV and Zdf mystery drama series The Chelsea Detective has a new co-lead for its second season.

Vanessa Emme has been cast opposite star Adrian Scarborough, with production now underway in and around London ahead of a 2023 return. BBC Studios-backed Expectation is the lead producer.

Emme will play Detective Sergeant Layla Walsh, who’s described as a “sharp, “diligent” officer who joins Chelsea Cid from Exeter and loves her job. While not naïve about life in London, she is billed as “an outsider and will occasionally roll her eyes at the worst excesses of Chelsea.”

The Adrian Scarborough and Sonita Henry-fronted series spans four episodes that clock in at around 90 minutes each.

In essence, it feels like four distinctly different movies, and it's all thanks to the variety of the cases.

There's something for everyone sprinkled in.

The series follows the conventions of your typical murder mystery, but that's not a bad thing.

What attracted you both to The Chelsea Detective?

Adrian: The checklist was pretty comprehensive. He rides a bicycle, which I ride, I love riding bikes, and I ride mine all over London, so that was quite useful. I thought it's been quite a long time since you saw a bobby on a bicycle in a British television series.

That's not happened for a while. I love the idea of him sort of being on this little island of a houseboat, and I liked the fact that he's melancholic, that he plays the piano, that he's sort of a bit...

Exclusive: AMC Networks is bringing together its international programming group across its linear cable networks and streaming services in a bid to find its next global hit.

The company has expanded the scope and focus of the group, which will be led by Kristin Jones, as it searches for follow-up shows to the likes of A Discovery of Witches, Humans and The Night Manager.

Jones, who has been at AMC Networks since 2014 and is EVP, International Programming, will oversee the group searching for global commissions, co-productions and acquisitions, across its linear networks AMC, BBC America, IFC and Sundance TV and streaming services Acorn TV, Sundance Now and the newly launched AMC+.
