Prolific comedy writer Bill Lawrence gave an update on where his reboot of “Scrubs” is in the development stage while speaking with Variety on the Writers Guild Awards red carpet Saturday in New York.
“Well first thing is, on an interview, asking my wife if she’ll do the show whenever she has time,” Lawrence said while standing next to his wife, “Scrubs” alum Christa Miller.
Lucky for Lawrence, Miller replied: “Of course.”
With that cleared up, the “Scrubs” creator went on to say: “We’re in the process of, the cool thing, putting the writers together. And it’s the best thing in the world to see that some of the most talented writers in the world wrote on that show and they’re all still friends, and my friends. And so [we] have a combination of the old and new. We’re just starting to build it right now.

“The best thing about Hollywood, other than, obviously, award shows, is that all of us got in the door because someone believed in us,” said Bill Lawrence, accepting the WGA East Herb Sergeant Award in New York tonight, urging the assembled to “go out and find a young person to believe in.”
“Give an hour of your time to someone every month. In the worst case, you get to talk about yourself for an hour,” said the creator of Scrubs, which has a reboot in development, and Apple TV+ hit Ted Lasso, eyeing a fourth season. His long list of credits also includes Apple’s Shrinking and Bad Monkey, Spin City and Cougar Town. He was, however, quite serious, devoting his acceptance speech to helping the next generation of writers, especially in a new landscape of small writing staffs, and young writers jumping from show to show. It’s never been harder.

We had learned in the tail end of 2023 that the Courteney Cox horror series “Shining Vale” had been cancelled after two seasons at Starz, with the horror-comedy series being pulled from the Starz streaming service entirely at the end of the year. In other words, there was nowhere to even legally watch the series after its cancellation, but that has thankfully changed.
At the start of this year, Bloody Disgusting has learned, “Shining Vale” returned to streaming. The previously released two seasons of the show are now streaming exclusively on Max.
Created by Jeff Astrof and Sharon Horgan, the short-lived horror series was produced by Warner Bros. TV, which would explain how it ended up on Max over a year after being given the axe by Starz. Mind you, this doesn’t mean the series is returning to life with new seasons, but rather its previously produced two seasons have found a new streaming home.

Courteney Cox's Horror Comedy Series (That Was Canceled Too Soon) Hits Max as Fans Wait for Scream 7

After several months of negotiations, legacy star Courteney Cox will officially return for the upcoming installment in the Scream franchise, Scream 7. However, the film is more than a year away from its theatrical release, but Max has the perfect replacement.
While fans wait to see what will happen next to Cox's Gale Weathers, the only legacy star to have appeared in all Scream installments so far, Warner Bros. Discovery offered the second-best option. On Jan. 1, Courteney Cox's two-season series Shining Vale premiered on Max. While it's quite different from the famous slasher franchise, Shining Vale is a satirical comedy horror that will keep viewers entertained.

Shrinking co-creator Bill Lawrence has opened up about the possibility of wrapping up the hit Apple TV+ comedy with its upcoming third installment. This comes after nearly a week since the show debuted its Season 2 finale.
During a recent interview with Los Angeles Times, Lawrence revealed the reason why Shrinking Season 3 would likely complete the story arc of Jason Segel’s character Jimmy Laird. The latter was introduced as a therapist who must deal with the grief of losing his beloved wife. "I think that this story is over in three seasons," Lawrence explained. "Because if we started the fourth season with Jason Segel going, 'I’m still so sad about my wife dying, and I really messed up with my daughter,' people would be like [contorts face into a look of agony]."

Vince Vaughn was once the torchbearer for rapid-fire, coked-up shenanigans. His high, gravelly laugh is probably ringing in your head right now. But after his run of over-quoted crass comedies of the aughts, Vaughn took a very laudable swing at serious acting roles in the True Detective series, Brawl in Cell Block 99, and Hacksaw Ridge. His latest project, the crime comedy Bad Monkey for Apple TV+ has just been renewed for a second season.

Christa Miller and Bill Lawrence celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this year, but not even a quarter-century of marriage affords Miller with spoilers about Shrinking.
“I’m not really privy to anything other than the basics,” Miller tells Gold Derby. So while the actress knew the broad strokes of what Lawrence and Shrinking co-creators Jason Segel and Brett Goldstein had in mind for her character, Liz, for Season 2, she was left stunned by the details. Mainly, a drifting Liz – left with an empty nest after having raised three sons – would reconnect with an old boyfriend and share a clandestine kiss.
“I was like, ‘Hey, that sounds fun, but also scary,’” Miller says, adding she felt it would be a situation where the fans of the show would give her some “sh–” for straying, even briefly, from her supportive husband Derek, played by Ted McGinley.

When Scrubs ended after eight seasons on NBC, it concluded with one of the all-time great sitcom series finales — then it got picked up for one actual final season on ABC and had to say goodbye all over again with a new cast of characters. Now, original creator and showrunner Bill Lawrence is returning with another revival of the show.
According to Variety, the series is in development at ABC through the Disney production company 20th Television. Lawrence reportedly wouldn’t be returning as showrunner, should the series be picked up.

Bill Lawrence is no Superman, but he is currently developing a reboot of his beloved sitcom “Scrubs” at ABC.
Variety has learned that Lawrence is working on a new iteration of the series via 20th Television for the broadcast network. The original series was produced by ABC Studios, which was recently absorbed into 20th TV as part of a restructuring undertaken by parent company Disney.

Scrubs' original run was filled with a wide array of characters, but it wouldn't make sense for all of them to come back, nor would it be possible for everyone to do so. The Scrubs revival has been gaining momentum lately, with showrunner Bill Lawrence and other members of the original cast and crew dropping comments and updates about how far away the sitcom is from returning. Lawrence has gone as far as claiming the Scrubs comeback is "so very close" to happening. So, it only seems like a matter of time until Disney greenlights the project.
In an ideal world, every character would return for Scrubs season 10, but sadly, that isn't realistic. For example, Sam Lloyd sadly passed away in 2020, meaning Ted the Lawyer won't be present. Additionally, Johnny Kastl probably won't be back as Doug, as the former actor is now a lawyer and hasn't performed since 2009. Regardless,...

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Shrinking season 2, episodes 1-7.Apple TV+'s Shrinking leans into the comedy side of its dramedy genre label to influence the actors the show brings into the fold, leading to an all-star guest ensemble. The newest additions to the Shrinking cast have increased the already impressive profile of Bill Lawrence's show by introducing actors from several hit sitcoms in roles of varying importance. Although Shrinking's main characters remain the story's focus, the newer figures are impossible to ignore due to the pedigree of the actors playing them.
Led by huge names like Jason Segal and Harrison Ford, Shrinking has quickly become one of the best shows on Apple TV+. Its ability to pivot quickly between emotional moments and sidesplitting gags is a signature move of showrunner Bill Lawrence, and Shrinking does it just as well as Lawrence's other projects - like Scrubs and Ted Lasso.

While St. Denis Medicals blend of workplace comedy and medical drama might be a fresh new concept, the sitcom is full of familiar faces. NBCs new sitcom St. Denis Medical follows the staff of the eponymous hospital as they attempt to keep the struggling institution running smoothly. St. Denis Medical is a workplace mockumentary sitcom that takes the premise of Scrubs and brings the style of The Office and Abbott Elementary to the project. This results in a sitcom that feels both original and familiar at the same time thanks to St. Denis Medicals added medical drama.

Where we left off with the characters of Shrinking season 2 last week, many of them were in a good spot. Sean and his dad reconciled, Alice forgave Louis, and even Paul and Jimmy have some nice friendship moments. The most intriguing part however is the fact that Liz is now a bit lonely and lost, and she may try to find comfort in her ex-boyfriend, Mac. What will happen in this week's episode and when can you start watching on Apple TV+?
Shrinking season 2 episode 7, "Get in the Sea," premieres Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024 on Apple TV+. Set your alarms for 12 a.m. Et, which really isn't bad if you're able to stay up a little late. The nice thing is that these episodes are only about 30 minutes long, so you won't be up too late. And it's also good news for those of you living in different parts of the U.

Scrubs snagged some thoroughly impressive guest stars, and while Matthew Perry's role as Murray Marks was one of the most memorable, it's even better when the other castings in his episode are considered. Although best known for appearing in all 10 seasons of Friends, Perry also played other great characters who weren't Chandler Bing. Even though none of his other personas were quite as iconic as his wise-cracking sitcom persona, Perry was always proving he was far more than a one-trick pony. His brilliant Scrubs performance would have stood out on its own, but the medical sitcom improved it further.
A legend of the sitcom genre, Matthew Perry was no stranger to the occasional guest spot on other comedy shows. For instance, Perry even reunited with fellow Friends alum Courtney Cox in Cougar Town, with the pair engaging in a pseudo-romance arc. The installment wouldn't have been quite so good...

Last week's episode of Shrinking season 2 brought out the honesty and truth in everyone. And this time around, some of the characters experience the theme of loneliness. But, there are reconciliations and support. For most of them anyway. We'll dive into it all with our review of season 2 episode 6, "In a Lonely Place" on Apple TV+. Spoilers Below.
Courtesy: Apple TV+
Alrighty, we're going to start with Sean because he's the one who gave us the biggest fright at the end of episode 5. What a cliffhanger! After his father was unsupportive and not willing ot listen to Sean's pain yet again, he lashes out and goes to start a fight. It turns out he didn't even fight back though. Sean just took the beating. This completely broke my heart.
What was real heartwarming though is that the whole gang gathers around and comes to visit and support Sean in the hospital.

Members of the Friends cast have appeared alongside their former costars in other projects, but one of the best reunions didn't happen until a decade after the iconic sitcom ended in 2004. Friends doesn't just remain in place as one of the best sitcoms ever, it also boasts one of the best ensemble casts in TV history. The chemistry that existed between the six main actors is something that can't be faked, and other projects have made use of the phenomenon - albeit to a lesser extent.
The core cast remained intact throughout all 10 seasons of Friends, allowing the stories of the main characters to grow over the course of a decade. Friends had the rare ability to make a great episode with any permutation of the characters, proving how well they were all cast. Even 20 years after the show ended, the actors still snag roles, in large part, due to...

Did anyone else spot that Cougar Town onscreen reunion? If you were a fan of the Courtney Cox-led comedy back when it was on from 2009 to 2015, then you may have recognized a familiar face on Shrinking season 2 episode 5 this week. Unfortunately, it wasn't the Friends star. But it was still a fun guest appearance.
Liz actress Christa Miller starred as Ellie in Cougar Town, and so did actor Josh Hopkins as Grayson. Well in the newest episode of the Apple TV+ series, he makes an appearance as Liz's ex-boyfriend from 25 years ago, Mac. While the two were not a couple in Cougar Town, he was the love interest of Cox's character, Jules, that obviously doesn't mean they didn't work together. They actually worked a lot together as part of the ensemble cast since Ellie is Jules' best friend on the show.

Shrinking season 2 episode 5, "Honesty Era," was all about telling the truth, and boy did a lot of characters have to come to terms with that. Sometimes it's not what you want to hear, but being honest will always set you on the right path. Especially when it comes to close family and friends. And many of the characters learned that in this episode, and some did not. Let's get into our review of the newest episode of the Apple TV+ series. Spoilers Below.

Alright, let' start with Alice. While she herself did not come clean, Conner is the one who tells Summer that he and Alice slept together. Summer literally tackles Alice and starts to fight her. That girl definitely has some impressive strength. Oh my goodness. Conner had to be honest with his girlfriend, and this is definitely going to cost Alice her best friend. We'll...

So far, Shrinking Season 2 is even better than Season 1, and its partly because it has even more of the vibe of creator Bill Lawrences previous sitcom, Cougar Town. Lawrence also created the massive hit Scrubs and the award darling Ted Lasso. Although Cougar Town never achieved the same success, it had a devoted cult following and managed to last six seasons thanks to TBS saving it after a cancellation. The sitcom about a hot mom who tries dating younger men developing a cult following of comedy nerds was so surprising it became a running gag on Community. Although the jokes on Community were hilarious, Cougar Town deserves to be more than a punchline. It's arguably Lawrences best show and definitely the most similar to Shrinking.

He said of his time on Family Ties: "Good memories for sure. They were a second family to me, growing up doing that ... Michael J. Fox used to come pick me up in his Ferrari, taught me to dive into a pool. It was so comfortable hanging out."
The break helped him appear in more 1990s shows, including Father Hood and Blank Check, until he retired in 1995. He later shifted his career and pursued his passion for music with several bands.

Courteney Cox has many memories for different audiences. For some, she is and will always be Monica Geller from Friends, but for horror buffs, she will forever be Gale Weathers from the Scream franchise.
During the Halloween season, celebrities go all in to create memorable outfits. Some of them use prosthetics and fully immerse themselves into a completely different person, like Janelle Monae and her E.T. costume, while some go back to some of their most recognizable characters, like Jennifer Garner and her 13 Going on 30 look. Note: This story contains spoilers from “Shrinking” Season 2, Episode 4.
“Shrinking” star Luke Tennie says the explosively physical scene in Episode 4between Jimmy (Jason Segel) and Sean (Tennie) was a moment production and ultimately viewers knew would happen sooner than later, adding that he conjured up the momentum in that scene from a casting note he received when he first auditioned for the role.
“It’s a moment we knew was coming because we hadn’t really seen it,” Tennie told TheWrap in an interview. “We saw Sean snap in Episode 1, Season 1, to protect somebody. We never really saw Sean just lose it without a real understanding of what the catalyst was. So it was exciting, but most of the prep came from really just digging into the birth of Sean for me.”

Bad Monkey and Scrubs share a showrunner in Bill Lawrence, and both projects feature a supporting actor who has been a part of the medical sitcom's cast and another of Lawrence's comedy shows. His three characters create an interesting trend that could have a meta explanation. His role in the Bad Monkey cast starts small but gradually grows to be slightly more prominent. While this is a change from his time spent on Scrubs, it doesn't necessarily break the connection between the characters.
The actor in question survived the mass character exit in Bad Monkey season 1's ending, so he could technically return further down the line. If so, his collaboration with Bill Lawrence would be extended even further. However, the trend began in season 1 of Lawrence's medical sitcom, when the actor debuted as one of the many doctors on Scrubs. The unusual nature of his Scrubs character sets up...

In nearly 30 years of creating or co-creating series from Spin City to Scrubs to Bad Monkey, Bill Lawrence has been one of TV’s most reliable sitcom showrunners. He has a great eye for talent in front of and behind the camera. He has a sharp sense of humor and an innate feeling for how to create a warm atmosphere that viewers will want to spend time in week after week, season after season. And he really, really knows how to course-correct.

After season three of Chucky ended, fans were subjected to a painfully long wait as the show’s future was decided. Ultimately, USA/SyFy/Peacock canceled Chucky and the entire horror world shed a bloody tear. Even if you weren’t a fan of the franchise, it’s hard to deny how great it was having a classic horror villain get such a mainstream spotlight. Hell, we even got to see Chucky kill WWE Women’s Champion Liv Morgan. It’s the kind of thing that only works in the ludicrous world of Chucky. And with Season 3 ending off on such a cliffhanger, this cancellation really leaves fans high and dry. But there’s still hope in multiple forms.
Don Manicini mentioned earlier this year that he was prepping another movie involving Chucky and it would “work in tandem with the TV show.” Obviously, with this change of events, I...

[This story contains major spoilers from the season finale of Bad Monkey.]
Back in the early 1990s, when they were still in their early-to-mid 20s, Vince Vaughn and Bill Lawrence met at a low-stakes poker game hosted by a mutual friend in Los Angeles. Vaughn had yet to rise to fame alongside Jon Favreau in the buddy comedy film Swingers, and Lawrence, then a standup comedian, was still years away from co-creating Spin City, the ABC sitcom that starred Michael J. Over the years, as their paths continued to cross at social events, Vaughn and Lawrence would keep tabs on each other’s progress. Cougar Town creator Bill Lawrence advises the people of Florida to not emulate the Cul de Sac crew and instead evacuate if advised to, as Hurricane Milton makes a beeline for the Sunshine State.
In the cold open to the Season 3 episode “Down South” (watch on Hulu), Jules (played by Courtney Cox) learns that Hurricane Mary is due to hit their fictional town of Gulfhaven, Fla. Disney’s long-expected move to fold ABC Signature into 20th Television brings to an end the media conglom’s in-house TV studio, which started off as Touchstone Television a decade before Disney bought ABC, subsequently being renamed ABC Studios and more recently ABC Signature.

Scrubs season 9 certainly felt like a spinoff despite not being officially marketed as one, but the sitcom actually launched an official spinoff show alongside season 8 that crashed and burned but didn't dissuade showrunner Bill Lawrence from taking the main project into its Med School era. Of all nine seasons of Scrubs, the ninth is often labeled the worst. The sitcom's transformation and cast overhaul resulted in it feeling much different from the previous eight seasons. Not every doctor from Scrubs returned for the Med School run, but those that did come back had a reduced role.
Just like Med School, the other Scrubs spinoff also only ran for a single season. It encountered many of the same issues as Scrubs season 9 did, and instead of learning from those missteps, the main show essentially replicated them after the original run ended. Jason Segel and Harrison Ford are back in the new series of Shrinking – here’s the trailer for Shrinking season 2, that lands next month.
Bill Lawrence is probably best known for creating Scrubs, the wonderful hospital sitcom which ran for nine seasons from 2002 to 2009 – there have been talks of a Scrubs return for many years, but recently Lawrence and the cast have indicated it would be happening soon.
It showcased Lawrence’s skill in weaving incredible pathos through a show crammed with jokes – My Lunch from season 5 may just be one of the best examples of this in any sitcom – and he has only gone from strength to strengh.
After six seasons of Cougar Town starring Courtney Cox, he co-created Ted Lasso with Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt, which soon became a global phenomenon due to its mix of hope, kindness and uncynical humour.

Television series can be creative laboratories, especially early in their runs. The creators and their writing staff might find their initial concept morphing into a completely different type of show (e.g. "Cougar Town" went from being a Courtney Cox vehicle about older women chasing younger men to an ensemble sitcom about nerdball friends who drink a ton of wine), while some shows head down narrative alleys they ultimately pretend never existed (like the time Landry and Tyra killed a guy during the second season of "Friday Night Lights").
And then sometimes life just flat-out gets in the way. Sometimes an actor feels like they've become too big of a star and prematurely bolt the show (à la David Caruso and "NYPD Blue"), or they get fired over a contract dispute (which is how "Valerie" became "The Hogan Family").
This brings us to "Roseanne" and the case of the two Beckys.

With the Scrubs revival seemingly on the horizon, the reunion of the cast will unfortunately be incomplete due to an upsetting behind-the-scenes occurrence. The missing figure in question starred in all nine seasons of Scrubs, which means the upcoming run of potential episodes will be the first batch in which they won't appear. Scrubs season 10 faces several challenges after season 9's failure, but this one is unfortunately insurmountable.
Showrunner Bill Lawrence has promised he's "Definitely going to" make more Scrubs. So, although the sitcom's revival hasn't yet been officially greenlit, it would seem the return of John "Jd" Dorian and friends is imminent at this point. While there is plenty to get excited about for the show's existing fans, it won't be possible to recapture exactly the same magic that made the original run so beloved.

Situational comedies, or sitcoms, are some of the most popular TV shows out there. As much as people may love their medical dramas and police procedurals, there is something to be said for a show that can make an audience laugh consistently. There are tons of famous sitcoms out there. Some of the earliest, like Beverly Hillbillies or Gilligan's Island helped pioneer and sanctify television for the world. Other, more modern examples like The Office and Abbott Elementary have become cultural phenomena. Sitcoms take a variety of forms, but their primary goal is always to entertain through comedic means.
The platonic ideal of a sitcom is a classic two-camera show, often filmed on a sound stage and supplemented with a laugh track. These shows are quick and cheap to produce and can attract huge levels of viewership. However, the genre's definition is pretty loose. It just refers to any situation where comedy may arise.

Since it first hit theaters in 1975, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" has been a spooky season mainstay and a staple for late-night moviegoers. Based on the stage musical of the same name — which came out two years prior — the cult classic introduces a young couple, Janet Weiss and Brad Majors (Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick), whose car breaks down near a mysterious mansion; when they call on the house to ask for help, they're met by a fascinating cast of characters, to say the absolute least.
"The Rocky Horror Picture Show" is referred to as a "cult classic" for a reason; as Roger Ebert once put it, "it was ignored by pretty much everyone" when it originally came out. These days, pretty much every major city offers midnight viewings of the movie, inviting audiences to dress up, throw things at the screen, and participate while the movie screens. So what...

There are some people in the entertainment industry that have shaped culture profoundly and yet their names might not be known to the average fan. One such person is Bill Lawrence, and if someone's a fan of television at all, they've almost certainly watched at least one Bill Lawrence-created TV show, though they may not know it. Lawrence is one of the most successful and prolific TV creators of all time, and the list of shows he's created is incredible, including Spin City, Scrubs, Clone High, Cougar Town, Ted Lasso, Shrinking and many more. When it comes to bringing excellent TV to the world, Lawrence is truly second to none, and with Ted Lasso wrapped up and Shrinking Season 2 on the way in October, Lawrence has filled the gap with a surprising new hit with Vince Vaughn Apple TV+ dramedy Bad Monkey.
