A fisheries expert is approached by a consultant to help realize a sheik's vision of bringing the sport of fly-fishing to the desert and embarks on an upstream journey of faith and fish to prove the impossible possible.
When rehearsing with an instrumental ensemble in the church, Mary Jones is playing the sackbut (a Baroque precursor to the trombone) and Dr Jones is playing a bass viol (a precursor to the 'cello).
We must have faith, Dr. Alfred.
Dr. Alfred Jones: Well, that's a very laudable sentiment, your excellency, but we're running out of time. Can't catch faith with a fishing rod.
When the dam opens it floods the fish tank. The fish tank should be above the dam as the fish swim upstream. If the fish were below the dam, flooded as in movie, they could not migrate upstream.
Since the lake formed above the dam was created from underground aquifers (as stated in the movie) there can be no streams running into the lake and thus no way for the fish to run up stream. Salmon run in flowing streams and the water from the lake provides that.
For the American theatrical release, references to the supermarket chain Tesco were dubbed over and replaced with Target.
