When it comes to a series finale, so many TV shows get it wrong. They attempt to do something shocking that's unnecessary, create a plot that doesn't fit with the rest of the series, or they try to wrap up too many storylines at once. The ones that get it right remember what viewers loved about the show to begin with. One series finale done exceptionally well was ABC's long-running sitcom The Middle.

As this slow broadcast network pilot season continues, ABC has ordered its second comedy pilot of the year: “Forgive and Forget,” a multi-camera comedy set to star Emmy-winning “Modern Family” alum Ty Burrell.
Burrell is also on board as an executive producer (through his Desert Whale Prods. shingle) on “Forgive and Forget,” while Eugene Garcia-Cross is writer/exec producer and Robin Shorr is on board as showrunner and exec producer. 20th Television is behind the project, which stars Burrell as Hank, a perennial “life of the party.” According to the logline, Hank gets an unexpected diagnosis, leading him to reconnect with his responsible adult son Ben.
ABC has also ordered the comedy pilot “Shifting Gears,” starring Tim Allen, for this season. That means both of the network’s comedy pilots are multi-camera sitcoms from 20th TV starring veteran ABC stars.

When The Middle premiered on ABC in 2009, it was one of the last big sitcoms to come out on network TV, but while other big comedy series of the 2000s like The Big Bang Theory and Modern Family used well known tropes like laugh tracks and confessional scenes, The Middle didn't use tricks to get laughs. It worked through the audacity and the chemistry of its family, the Hecks, of Orson, Indiana.

The Internet demands to know: did Sydney Sweeney fabricate parts of her inspiring backstory?
Let’s rewind. In November, the 26-year-old actress and budding producer graced the cover of Women’s Health to promote a starring role opposite Glen Powell in the romantic comedy Anyone But You. Writer Lindsay Geller recapped Sweeney’s humble beginnings as a teenager who made extra cash by babysitting, cleaning restaurant bathrooms and leading tours at Universal Studios to help her family pay the bills while she was trying to make it in Hollywood. “I watched my parents lose a lot. We filed for bankruptcy, and they lost their house back home on the lake,” she said. “We couldn’t afford life in L.A.”

Young Sheldon is a successful prequel to The Big Bang Theory, giving fans a deeper understanding of Sheldon's character. Other shows to watch after Young Sheldon include Smart Guy, Fuller House, The Middle, The Goldbergs, Fresh Off The Boat, Everybody Hates Chris, Young Rock, Scorpion, and Modern Family.

Well-developed TV characters are essential to keeping the plot moving and creating new storylines. Sudden changes or reversals in a character's growth can be disappointing for audiences. Characters' endings should be true to their development and not feel forced or rushed.
What makes a good television character is how they develop and change across the duration of a show, but some sitcoms see their biggest characters having disappointing endings. With the pressure of giving a character a solid send-off, it can be difficult for writers to appease audiences. However, sometimes the pressure leads to creators forgetting important details about characters and their storylines.
In some of the best sitcoms of all time, characters finish their journeys as completely different people compared to when they started. It's important to note that, even though sitcoms tend to follow a story-of-the-week format, well-developed TV characters are essential to keep the plot moving forward.

Malcolm in the Middle remains one of the best sitcoms of all time, aging well and still as hilarious in 2023 as it was when it first aired. The show addressed relatable issues such as discipline struggles, money problems, managing a growing family, and in-law tensions within a working-class family. Its set of supporting characters was great, each of whom provided something different for the show.
A staple in noughties sitcoms, Malcolm in the Middle may have ended 17 years ago, but the family-focused comedy is still as relevant today. Malcolm in the Middle aired from 2000 to 2006 and joined the Wilkerson family for 151 jam-packed episodes filled with fast-paced and intelligent humor for all. Unlike traditional sitcoms, Malcolm in the Middle was unique for its use of breaking the fourth wall and Malcolm's acknowledgment of the audience. Almost two decades later, it is still considered one of the best sitcoms of all time.

These serious moments often serve a purpose, whether it's for character development or as commentary on real-world issues, adding depth to the show's overall storyline. While these moments can be memorable and impactful to audiences, it's important to acknowledge the sensitive nature of the topics being portrayed, such as sexual violence and suicide, and to handle them with care and respect.
Content Warning: The following article contains discussions and depictions of sexual violence and suicide.
Sitcoms are typically light-hearted and comedy focused, but there are several occasions when a funny moment turns dark. Even in the best sitcoms, there are storylines that cover more serious topics, but are usually discussed in a tasteful way. However, now and then there will be a dark moment...

The 2005 House of Wax remake took creative liberties and added popular actors of the 2000s in an effort to establish a modern franchise. The original characters of House of Wax are unlikely to return for a potential sequel due to their fate in the film. The cast members of House of Wax, such as Chad Michael Murray and Elisha Cuthbert, have continued their acting careers with notable works in television and film.

Crossovers between popular sitcoms are often contrived and awkward, but a few have successfully blended the forms and created satisfying television events. In addition, some potential great crossovers never happened. For example, The Golden Girls and Gilmore Girls could have made a great crossover, with both focusing on interpersonal issues and women supporting each other. Likewise, Friends and Frasier, two sharply-written sitcoms about adult life, never overlapped, but it would have been interesting to see the characters interact and reference their connections to Cheers and Mad About You.
The TV crossover is a difficult art to perfect, but some of the greatest TV sitcoms could have fit together beautifully. Crossovers are an ambitious and often cynical practice, generally serving the purely commercial end of promoting two shows at once. It’s rare for the overlap of two popular shows not to come across as contrived and awkward, as evidenced by numerous terrible TV crossovers.

"Good Burger" is a rather unlikely success story of '90s kids' entertainment. Back in the '90s, Nickelodeon created a sketch comedy show titled "All That," which was essentially the kids' version of "Saturday Night Live." It ran absurd sketches and launched the careers of many actors like Amanda Bynes, Nick Cannon, Katrina Johnson, Jack DeSena, Kel Mitchell, and Kenan Thompson — who would go on to become the longest-reigning "SNL" cast member ever.
And just like "SNL," "All That" would see some sketches turn into spin-offs, with the biggest one being "Good Burger." In the sketches, Kenan and Kel starred as Dexter and Ed, two fast food joint workers who get into all sorts of hijinks. The movie was directed by Brian Robbins, who would go on to become president and CEO of Paramount Pictures.

Malcolm in the Middle ended after season 7 due to low ratings, with viewership steadily declining throughout the show's run. Fox's decision to change the show's time slot contributed to its falling viewership. The cancelation of Malcolm in the Middle ultimately led to Bryan Cranston's iconic role as Walter White in Breaking Bad.
It was one of Fox's most popular shows when it first aired in 2000, which may leave fans wondering why Malcolm in the Middle ended after season 7. The series starred Frankie Muniz as the titular Malcolm, a child prodigy in a dysfunctional lower-middle-class American family. Created by Linwood Boomer, Malcolm in the Middle was known for its whip-smart comedy, outlandish antics, pop punk influences, and exuberant portrayal of 2000s youth culture.

In the 1990s, Nickelodeon created a sketch comedy show called "All That," an absurdist half-hour that was the kid's answer to "Saturday Night Live." The series ran for 10 seasons and served as the launchpad for performers like Nick Cannon, Amanda Bynes, Josh Server, Katrina Johnson, Lori Beth Denberg, Danny Tamberelli, Kel Mitchell, and the longest-reigning "SNL" cast member in history, Kenan Thompson. Like the adult series, "All That" birthed a handful of sketches that would get their own spin-offs, none more famous than "Good Burger."
Kenan and Kel starred as Dexter and Ed, getting into hijinks while working at a fast food joint that fans loved so much, they got their own movie. Now, over 25 years later, the classic combo is back with "Good Burger 2." Paramount+ and Nickelodeon Studios released a teaser trailer today, opening with Dexter hit by a car being driven by Ed, one that he's converted into a burger mobile.

These 10 actors have conquered the tough TV landscape by starring in multiple hit shows, solidifying their success and leaving a lasting impression. From Bryan Cranston to Idris Elba, these actors have showcased their versatility by excelling in different roles, earning critical acclaim and fan followings.
Acting can be a tough business and not everyone makes it big, which makes the fact that these 10 actors had multiple hit TV shows all the more impressive. The TV landscape is a treacherous one; streaming platforms like Netflix are known for ruthless cancelation policies, making it all the more likely that a show won't get renewed after season 1. This means it's arguably even more difficult for TV actors to find success on television in the current age.
Despite that, however, there are a handful of talented TV actors who have managed to make a name for themselves by starring in more than one hit TV show.

Young Sheldon is one of the best and most beloved family sitcoms out there. The CBS series started as a spin-off of the hit sitcom series The Big Bang Theory and follows the early life of one of the main characters of the original series. There have been many sitcoms about precocious kids but none of them are similar to Young Sheldon. Young Sheldon recently concluded its Season 6 and while you wait for Season 7 here are some similar shows that you should check out next.

Last year’s Best Narrator Emmy contest was a real clash of the titans as three-time champion David Attenborough (“The Mating Game”) attempted to fend off famously charismatic first-timer Barack Obama (“Our Great National Parks”). Now that the former U.S. president has one victory under his belt, he is immediately seeking a second for another Netflix series, “Working: What We Do All Day.” This time, he faces an entirely different slate of challengers who could very well make this outing even more difficult.
Those competing against Obama for the 2023 narration prize are returning nominees Angela Bassett (“Good Night Oppy”) and Morgan Freeman (“Our Universe”) and category newcomers Mahershala Ali (“Chimp Empire”) and Pedro Pascal (“Patagonia: Life on the Edge of the World”). Collectively, the professional actors have previously vied for 14 Emmys across 10 categories.

These days, it seems like every major video game studio wants to adapt its properties to big and small screens. It’s an area that’s only going to continue to grow after the success of projects like The Last of Us or The Super Mario Movie. But, there was an era in the world of entertainment where movie studios more often looked to video games for adaptations. It was a time that now feels like a distant memory.
Though mega franchises like Marvel, Star Wars, DC, Middle-earth, and The Wizarding World remain vital parts of gaming, direct adaptations of a film just don’t happen like they used to. Granted, that genre often experienced extreme highs and lows, but perhaps we didn’t appreciate those games enough. For all of their flaws, those adaptations offered quite a few things we could always use more of. Perhaps it’s...

There are few fictional worlds as expansive and popular as that of Middle-Earth from The Lord of the Rings. The stories of J.R.R. Tolkien changed the landscape of modern fiction in the 20th century, and they continue to be some of the most beloved of all time. There have been numerous adaptations of the author’s works over the years, ranging from the Hobbit animated TV special to Peter Jackson’s live-action Lord of the Rings trilogy from the early 2000s and, most recently, Amazon Prime Video’s The Rings of Power series. The desire for new Lord of the Rings materials has been consistent over the years, and fans are likely going to get a lot of it in the coming years.
Earlier this year, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO announced Wbd’s intentions to evolve The Lord of the Rings into a cornerstone franchise, similar to what Disney has done with Star Wars.

Breaking Bad star Betsy Brandt recalls Bryan Cranston crying after filming his toughest scene. Throughout its run, the award-winning series had a number of moments that thrilled audiences but also tested their patience, sparking discussions and heated debates over the decisions the characters made. An early example of this came in Breaking Bad season 2, episode 12, in which Walter White (Bryan Cranston) accidentally causes the death of Jane Margolis (Krysten Ritter). Days of Our Lives will be featuring a cameo from iconic actor Dick Van Dyke for one unusual reason.
