The fourth season had been quite inconsistent so far or maybe it's just the chaotic oscillations of our lives that make some of us feel that way. Can we escape our destiny ? Who is really behind our fate ? Can we even control our darkest emotions and act for the greater good ? These deep questions are asked in this true masterpiece. Its story brought us right back to the first two seasons astonishing quality. The writing was as smart and inspiring as in "Easy as Pie" and "Lost Boys" for example. Moreover even if I found Dexter's flashbacks too literal they succeeded in explaining what his character is all about. However I wished the writers chose the hard way by letting the viewers understand Dr Morgan and Mr Dexter by themselves. It was so fascinating to see him deal with who he is and fight his own demons, of whom the Dark Passenger is the obvious metaphor.
Jennifer Carpenter, Michael C. Hall and John Lithgow did an impressive acting job. The first redeemed herself after his questionable performance in "Hello, Dexter Morgan". But I didn't really blame her talent but the writers or director. Although Deb was herself I found her investigation was rushed as it wasn't properly covered in the last episodes. However it was a minor issue and now that I've checked it's not surprising that The Getaway was written by Scott Reynolds, Melissa Rosenberg and Wendy West. The end was unpredictable and redefined the meaning of "happy ending". The recap was also really helpful to catch up and right from the start the face off between Dexter and Trinity became as intense as I hoped it would be. Watching these monster titans collide was interesting but I wished it had been mesmerizing but I probably just have too high expectations when it comes to Dexter.
Of course we could still complain about the misplaced thirteen seconds scene between Batista and LaGuerta but all the others were so captivating and intense that it wouldn't be fair to the incredible talent of the people behind the show.
