Ascension

Although it's a documentary, it still doesn't quite feel like one. It's more of an observation on the working class of modern China. You ascend higher in society as the film progresses. Nobody sits in front of the camera and talks, nor is there narration or any caption. But what's truly strange is how much more expressive the film gets when it's being told this way. You are only the observer, watching the workers chat and watching the products getting produced. The long and repetitive shots sometimes feel eerie and you can experience what the workers go through on a daily basis.

It is hard to imagine how the crew managed to get the footage in the movies. Everything feels planned out, yet none of that content would be legal to fill in China. This film is a wonderful piece of art exposing reality as it is.
