  • Warning: Spoilers
"Rex" is an American live action short film from 2009, so this one is almost a decade old. it was directed and co-written by Israeli filmmaker Guy Shalem and it stars Simon Rex, an actor who has appeared in porn and "serious" works too. His movie here makes a bit fun of the social media generation and of starlets who are famous despite having no recognizable talent. That's why you will find Paris Hilton here on more than one occasion. I personally liked it from that perspective and the idea and concept behind it aren't too shabby. At least if you are American, you will recognize some familiar faces in here and I would not blame them for joining the project. It's nothing despicable or trash television and who can parodize these people better than these people actually!? So don't mistake it for reality television, it is all comedy. The big problem, however, is that it is almost never funny, at least to me and the consequence is that it drags despite the short running time. imdb says it is 25 minutes long, but the version I watched was a bit longer, slightly under 30 I think, perhaps because closing credits are not included here. Also this looked like a pilot episode and they may have intended to follow up on it with a complete season, maybe more. But it hasn't happened and probably never will with the time passed since this was made. I would not call it a failure overall, but still underwhelming and a bit of an missed opportunity. i would not have kept watching and I give this project a thumbs-down. Not recommended.

    Great
I must say that I am a little bias towards liking the show, as I'm a pretty avid Simon Rex, aka Dirt Nasty, fan.

But all biases aside, this really is a good idea, and I think that this show could go very far and become VERY popular.

Simon Rex is a very funny person, just listen to his music or watch him and Andy Milonakis on Youtube. He's also not the best actor. Not a bad actor, but nothing special either. However, in a show where he basically has to act as himself, I think his strengths and weaknesses combine to create a very funny on screen persona, one that isn't too far from the truth. The show itself is great. It's a lot like Curb Your Enthusiasm, but it's geared towards a much younger crowd and seems to play more relevance in today's media. What I believe will be everybody's favorite part are the wonderful cameo performances from Paris Hilton, Lance Bass, and Jamie Lee Presley really drive the show, and from what I've heard, there's a good amount of other celebrities lined up to do the show.

My only beef on the show has to do with the production. The camera shots are good, so is the acting, but the music and the slides that say what's happening in words, is a little cheesy. It's like a really high quality Youtube video, but it needs some tweaking before it gets on TV.

Regardless, watch it. Remember that it's only a PILOT that was aired over the INTERNET. So don't expect any Emmy performances. But I guarantee that if you sit back and relax, you'll enjoy it.

I give this, at this stage, a 7/10.

However, I could see this idea getting even better.
