invisibleunicornninja1 May 2018This show is ok. There are elements that kinda work. The time-travel is interesting and there is some interesting facts for kids to learn. Some of the stories are good.
The animation is so terrible that it actually confused me as a kid. A lot of obvious animation shortcuts were taken. This show either had a low budget, a lazy animation team, or both. There are a lot of elements that don't work. The characters and stories are extremely watered down. I know that this show is for kids, but there could be a little more depth. Each of the main characters has one little gimmick (most of them have it in their name) and they don't really go to far with them except when they want to teach some kind of lesson. Except for when its trying to be educational, this show is mostly filler. If the animation team had enough money and talent to create actual sets, and if the story was more focused on learning and character development, then it probably would've been much better. -

MrGenre14 September 2010Trains? Dinosaurs? Why they were never put together before has to have folks not associated with Jim Henson's studio scratching their heads.
Dinosaur Train completely changes how kids learn about dinosaurs. Finally, all the mistakes I was taught as a kid are repaired! Dinosaurs use tails for balance, have proper names, sometimes are tiny, have feathers, fly, are birds, swim, hunt, etc.
Mix in some really well done music and clear, quality animation, and you've got a great show. Best of all is a moment after each episode with a real paleontologist who clears up fact from fiction and even gives great details about what was learned in the cartoon - finally, a TV show is using standard teaching methods like reinforcement and repetition without boring us to death.
Thank you, Dinosaur Train! You've created a show on a great subject that I can learn something new from right along with the kids! Well done!! -
topper24hours4 March 2017OK, so this show does a good job of being educational & realistic, but in the intro a T-Rex hatches from an egg, in a Pteranodon nest.
This type of scientific inaccuracy should be rectified.
Perhaps an explanation. Otherwise, it could be confusing to children.
Other than that.... good show! -
opinionatedjacob4 September 2020This is not an excellent tv show that teaches life lessons in a mature and wholesome manner. What you find is cheap animation, thoughtless songs(and poor quality), worthless education, (learning about dinosaurs has little value) and often petty arguments resolved by even further petty resolutions. These lessons DO NOT translate to the real life situations.
Explore the depth of other PBS tv shows such as Daniel Tiger(interpersonal relationships) and Wildkratts(modern animals), but give Dinosaur Train a pass. -
One of the most informative children shows I was forced to watch as a parent. Each episode explores a specific group of dinosaurs in a way that is accessible to kids (and adults). Our little boy is 10 now and no longer watches DT but still has a great handle on his dinosaur knowledge. Thanks, in part to this awesome show.

redryan6427 October 2015BACK IN THE Day, which means to a typical "Boomer" the 1950's, young boys, as they do now, loved to read about, draw and collect toys & models of Dinosaurs. This phenomenon usually began when a lad was about 8 years old.
SO WE FAST-FORWARD to 2015 and we see that the awareness of that which is Mesozoic, like so many other things, has a much earlier onset. We can testify to the veracity of this; after observing our 3 year old Grandson, Jack. He knows a "terrible lizard" when he sees one in a drawing or painting and even can tell you some of heir scientific names. Even his younger Brother, Patrick, has a pretty good handle on recognition of the long extinct beasts.
NOW HOW CAN this be? We found ourselves asking this very question. WE can modestly boast that the kids are innately bright and get a lot of attention; but still, it was a puzzlement.
THE ANSWER WAS provided by their television viewing habits, which have generous helpings of PBS and SPROUT channels. Needless to say the boys see a lot of THOMAS & HIS FRIENDS, CURIOUS GEORGE, DANIEL TIGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD and a curiously rendered hybrid animation show called DINOSAUR TRAIN.
THE HALF HOUR episodes combine the modern computer generated animation of brightly colored anthropomorphic dinosaurs with a cutely designed railroad train, that rivals that of Walt Disney's DUMBO. As with all worthwhile kiddie shows, there are always problems for the dinosaur families to solve and some little life lessons for the young 'uns to learn.
THE LAST PORTION of each installment is the province of real-life Paleontologist Scott Sampson; who gives us (parents, grandparents as swell as the kids) some background info about some creature that was featured in the story. We recently learned about Hespiranis, a large, flightless sea bird from the Cretaceous Period, who had teeth in his beak!
THIS FORMULA IS hard to beat or criticize in any way! It gives the child a strong dose of educational material, without being heavy-handed or obvious.
SO WE SAY: "Hats off to you, Craig Bartlett (creator), Jim Henson Productions and the Public Broadcasting System (PBS for short). -
When life gets in you way, this is the show to watch.

rodrigoalexandre-0140231 December 2022This show(abit outdated) and prehistoric planet proves that you don't need to make dinosaurs Roar 24/7,endless gore,mainstream designs or some awesome bro designs in It and i Also like How It has alot of unpopular prehistoric creatures like yi qi,hesperornis,ichthyornis,meganeura and etc.this was one of the show that made me like paleontology Kind of weird people don't talk about It that much despite the show a bit popular Also the concept of a train that goes back in time where prehistoric creatures can use is Very cool
I'm looking at you Jurassic fight club,Clash of dinosaurs and Monsters resurrected. -

Lovable characters, compelling voice talent and surprising plot variety given its long run and narrow subject. My 4 year old daughter is dinosaur obsessed and this show has hours of fun and educational content I can trust. She now knows the difference between a theropod and a sauropod, plus it offers great life lessons on friendship and family.

I love how they use MLP voice actors to voice the characters like Claire Corlett,Ashleigh Ball,Tabitha St. Germain, Andrea Libman, Ian James Corlett, Brian Drummond, Maryke Hendrikse, Trevor Devall, Andrew Francis, Nicole Oliver, etc.

This tv show is very educational and even though some parts of it are inaccurate this tv show came out in 2009 so of course there are going to be some inaccuracies. This helped build my interest in dinosaurs and it helped me learn about a lot of species. 10/10.
