Horrible. I wanted to watch a Batman cartoon, but practically 60% of the screen time was devoted to Barbara Gordon and the other female detective, whose name I didn't even bother to remember. Batman did absolutely nothing in this show; it was the others who did everything, and he only showed up in the last 5 minutes to fight the villain.
While expanding the roles of supporting characters can add depth to a narrative, it shouldn't come at the expense of the hero that the audience came to see. Batman deserves better than to be a background character in his own show, and fans deserve a series that honors the legacy of the Dark Knight by putting him at the center of the action where he belongs.

Look, I'll just come out right out of the gate and say it. Those who want to hyperfixate on the genders and races of certain characters will find fault where they want to. As someone who thoroughly despises the Acolyte, I can wholeheartedly say that the show never once felt overt in its representation. The characters simply are and their personalities and motivations are what counts.
Now that we got that out of the way, let me just say that Caped Crusader is good, spooky fun. Turn down the lights, chill your room and grab some popcorn because it's a roaring good time! The show does a great job of immersing in the time period and crafting compelling villains, which is admirable seeing that each episode is a little less than 30 minutes!
Hamish Linklater does a solid job as Bruce and the Bat. Conroy is of course of the King of the Cowl for sure but Linklater delivers a fresh, smoother voice to contrast Conroy's more expressive performance.
Overall, trust me when I say that Caped Crusader is a wonderful return to form for the DCAU!

Just stumbled across this new little gem. Hard to talk about without spoilers but it's another 1940s esque Batman cartoon all gangsters and Tommy guns and Batman relying on detective skills and not gadgets. Thoroughly enjoyed first 2 episodes. Really love what they have done with a certain cobblepot it's a nice take that for me works really well.
My only gripe being it has a certain nod to the Matt reeves movie as in Matt reeves a producer and look and feel and detective Bat similar at times but rather than be a series spin off of that movie it is more of a partner to the Timm animated series as well I'd argue the 1960s TV show with it's colourful villains and also the Burton movies, so a little confusing straight after The Batman movie coming out but at same time not really confusing at all. It's great have a new take despite already having sorta done this version already. Nonetheless it's still great fun for young and old and worth a watch and for me highly bingeable already.

While exploring some interesting themes and with some really cool art-deco conceptual artwork, I found the animation itself to be really static and uninteresting. The opening shot of the entire series had a guy tied up in a chair, completely unmoving other than his mouth.
Since this show is being marketed as adult animation, I expected the quality of the animation to be higher. It feels like a kid's show that's peppered with more violence than usual - interesting but lacking the genuine emotion and higher quality animation that I would expect from a more mature show.
I do appreciate the art style, voice acting, and imaginative take on the characters we know and love. The music is also well done - sort of a classic orchestral noir vibe. However in my opinion it could do with less music overall, as well as an approach to the music that was less leading and manipulative.

As a HUGE fan of the original animated series, I was excited for this to come out. I watched all 10 episodes in one sitting, and I wasn't disappointed.
Firstly, I really liked the art and animation style. It's similar to the original series, but maybe a little more detailed and polished. The music is ok, but not nearly as good as the original series.
Secondly, the action scenes are really good, and definitely highlight Batman's abilities and stealth.
The only complaint I had is they did some PC stuff that rubbed me the wrong way. For example the Commissioner and Barbara Gordon are now black and Harley Quinn appears to be Asian. Those are forgivable, but the one change that really pissed me off is they made Penguin a freakin' woman! So I knocked off a couple points for that. Hopefully that trend does not continue. We don't need even more PC pandering shoved down our throats.
Overall I'd say if you liked the original animated series you'll really like this. Oh, one more slightly negative thing: Linklater's voice and acting as Bruce is good, but when he's Batman his voice is just monotone and almost robotic. I think he needs to change things up a little.

I mean this is close to straight garbage. How can a show from 1993 do EVERYTHING 1000X better. If you're looking to find a Batman show that is inspired by BTAS (which it's been marketed as for years now) then you will be severely disappointed. I literally signed up for IMDB just to make this post because of how disappointed I was. The writing is god awful, it feels like an 8 year old kid playing with action figures plotline. The characters are so severely disappointing it's borderline unbearable. It just feels like the animation has gone backwards like how does this happen. I don't know what it is but even like Batman and the scooby doo from the 90s and early 2000's animations were so much more vivid, artistic, emotional, and full of life. This just feels so dull. I legitimately thought clayface (who they never mention his name) was Jonah Hex because he looks exactly like him in this lmao. Literally at a loss for words PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE watch the original Batman: The Animated Series on MAX if you haven't seen it and then you will see what a giant misstep this is.

After having heard so many good things about this, I was very excited to watch it.
Alas, it wasn't working for me at all. Action scenes were kind of boring, dialogue wasn't compelling, and sad to say that the voice acting didn't jump out at me as being particularly interesting, either.
The idea of an animated noir Batman series sounded great. But yeah, I couldn't get into it. Couldn't even make it through the first episode.
Don't care about the gender switching of a certain character, nor do I care what ethnicity certain other characters are. None of that makes any difference to me.
But when even a half hour show starts to feel like a slog, it's time to call it quits. I know I'm apparently in the minority on this, and that's fine -- don't mean to yuck anybody's yum, just giving my honest opinion of the show. I wish I liked it.

Batman: Caped Crusader is the ideal period piece celebrating the character's 85th-Anniversary and shows that The Dark Knight still songs in the world of animated television when in the hands of Bruce Timm.
If X-Men '97 was a 'swan song homage' to the X-Men series, Caped Crusader does the same thing for Batman: The Animated Series and Bruce Timm's extended DC-Animated-Universe too. Batman looks like he's a cross between his debut comic appearance, how he looked in The New Batman Adventures and the Justice League shows.
This Batman keeps the character in relatively grounded stories except for trace fantasy elements as per superhero stories, but it doubles down in the neo-noir aspects of Bats, and the 1930s/1940s-aesthetic is actually a hard 'story frame' for when it takes place: as opposed to The Animated Series' more open-ended continuity.
Caped Crusader is eminently watchable stuff and plays into Batman's strengths on television, which is gonna be even more pressure for the cinematic outings for The Batman: Part II and the DCU-shared-universe thing (however that plays out). Anywho, Batman and Bruce Timm back together again and it's still lightning in a bottle (or on a screen).
Batman: Caped Crusader is just a genuinely good time, and it'll make die-hard Bat-fans VERY happy for sure. I know it made me happy. This show is like an exercise in 'evolving nostalgia-shows' that take what worked before and uses the freedom of streaming and runs with the lack of micro-managing-network-executives and lets the stories complement the pre-existing stories rather than 'overwrite' them completely.
In the seemingly endless plethora of Batman shows and movies, Caped Crusader is like a jolt of energy for such a tried-and-true property that thankfully has competent writers revering the character instead of feeling the need to 'over-deconstruct' stuff that didn't need to be broken down that much.
Caped Crusader gets 10/10 IMDbs. 5/5 stars. Batman has still got it indeed.

This show does a good chunk of Things Well, some that have been done too many times to count that leave me somewhat disappointed but it does something I've always wanted from a Batman show and When like 2 Years ago I heard Matt Reeves & Bruce Timm where attached to it made
That 30's Bat Suit with no Armour, Aesthetic & Setting from The Bat-Man's Origins Mobsters, Corrupt Cops in trench coats and fedoras, GCPD officers trying to capture him etc
It also continues the trend of showing Bruce's Dark and unhealthy obsession with His Mission, His Crusade against Gotham's Criminals.
This stuff is good and all but watching it I felt a bit disappointed I was hoping this show would be a bit more darker and wouldn't dumb down the story but unfortunately it doesn't entirely deliver but it's a decent enough Batman show That I wouldn't mind seeing a Season 2 but hoping for a change in Tone and Really giving us some great storylines.

It's certainly not the worst Batman show, but there are a lot of things that work against this project. The portrayals of all the characters come off as poor/boring versions especially the villains. All characters lack chemistry with each other as well.
With Batman/Bruce Wayne there's no depth or character development it's just the same bland and tiresome version of this version of the caped crusader.
I would say the biggest issue I have with this show is that it struggles trying to decide if it's for more mature audiences or if it's kid friendly. One second it's showing PG styled phrasing and cookie-cutter action, the next it's showing murder and serious dark topics yet holds back on showing any blood or graphic depictions. At the end of the day just pick a lane and stick to it.
Negatives:
Positives:
At the end of the day I would just stick with watching the Batman Year One animated movie. As it does a much better job of representing the origin of Batman becoming a true crime fighter while learning how to navigate through corruption and justice.

I'll be honest, I was turned off by the first episode. You walk right into it and see a lot of characters have been changed from their traditional comic appearances to appeal to "modern audiences." Penguin in particular is just bad as some angry convincing mother. BUT the next episode absolutely nailed ClayFace with plenty of homages to the early 30s and 40s Universal Horror movies who the character is based off of that I decided to stick with it. The show as a whole copies the artistic style of the 90s Batman: The Animated Series which is considered by many to be the best Batman show of all time. This show mimics its Noir elements while also ramping up the age rating, giving us more gore, more horror, more "adult" themes, and the occasional swearing. However the show isn't without its flaws, because it's beyond obvious the creators had to make it more diverse so it would appeal to "modern audiences".
When this show misses, it's a strike out. Penguin is hands down the worst change. Bullock is also bad as an accomplish to the corrupt Flash. In the original show, he didn't trust Batman, but at least he was a honest cop. However when the show hits a home run, it's absolutely out of the park. There are so many Easter eggs and call backs to the various comics and what influenced the various Batman characters/arcs I couldn't help but appreciate the show has a hard core fan. For instance, Catwoman's costume is very much a callback to her golden Age outfit while her iconic claw marks scar is a reference to her Year One trademark. Firefly likewise they nail his psychological disturbance with fire (who imo is a very utilized villain) where once he sees a flame, he HAS to make it grow. Harley Quin, yeah they "change" her appearance (cough cough) but they actually do her psychologist profile justice much like her original appearance in the Animated Series, and no she is nothing like the MAX show depiction.
Is the show perfect? No. Am I happy they "updated it for modern audiences?" Also no. However that does not mean you should instantly write it off as a bad show. Skip the 1st episode and you will see the creators at least tried to make it a love letter to the existing Batman Media from across the decades.

I hope the fat nerds have left by now, so that I can finally say I liked it without being marked unhelpful. Do you even know what that word means? Is there a part of my review that you didn't understand? If not, then let me let you know it's not a dislike button. It just means your reading comprehension isn't good. With that said, let's move on to the actual review.
As a kid, I never like Batman: The Animated Series. I was more of a Tom and Jerry and Mickey Mouse kid. I began liking Batman after I got into college, and after watching Batman: The Animated Series, I realised what an awesome childhood I missed. I had been wanting that to be recreated, since the show isn't available on any streaming service in India, and I have watched all the old Batman animated movies (Mask of the Phantasm >>>).
When this show came, I hopped on to it immediately. Sure, there are some things different, like Penguin is a woman and Gordon has been race swapped. But this is a fresh take on the franchise. You don't hate on The Boys for making Victor Neumann a woman or MCU for making Nick Fury black, then make an exception here too on that.
My favourite character from the show was Harvey Dent. He was pretty much the deutragonist of the show after Batman. I like how his transformation was shown. Every character had depth to them. The animation is off, like many other bad reviews have pointed out, but it's not irredeemable. Plenty is happening on screen. It's obvious the budget here wasn't as high as Batman: TAS, so that can be forgiven.
Overall I'd say I liked it, and my opinion is always correct when it comes to entertainment. Now that we all know it's a fresh take on Batman and nothing like TAS, you know what to expect while going in.

Great second episode I appreciate the revival of the drawn stile of batman. I have always been a fan of the "Batman The Animated series" and I like the fact that we are getting content that is similar to the old show. However the show is not without its flaws.
Out of the first five episode I have watched only the second one hit it out of the park. The others fell short and maybe got on base. But by far the main complaint was the art stile and the way it was implemented. The art stile is a bad computerized copy made to look drawn. It is very distracting. Every line looked exactly the same, it didn't carry any weight to them. Because of this in some instances the cars and the characters look like they where gliding across the screen or floating on objects. To paint a simpler picture it sometimes looked like a bad green screen.
To rap up I hope this show gets green lit for a season two, it has great potential and I will continue to watch this show.

I appreciate the artistic direction taken in this new Batman series. The modern, darker style is reminiscent of the classic animated Batman series, yet it offers a unique and fresh take. The Batman outfit is iconic, and it's refreshing to see it used so effectively. Finding a suitable voice actor for Batman, following Kevin Conroy's memorable performance, was no easy task. However, the current voice actor has done an excellent job. I'm eagerly anticipating a potentially darker Season 2 and I'm open to their unique interpretations of traditional Batman universe characters. The voice actors in this series would be ideal choices for future Batman video games. I hope they can maintain the atmosphere and the balance between familiarity and innovation. I understand that long-time fans might have mixed feelings about this animated adaptation, but as someone who has been a fan since the early 2000s, I find this series to be a great fresh take.

In many ways, Batman: Caped Crusader is a breath of fresh air. It's not made to be 'binged', for one thing. You can watch a mostly self-contained episode and be satisfied with a complete story. The art design is classical, invoking the Art Deco trappings of the '30s and '40s which its spiritual successor, Batman: The Animated Series, also did well. And it uses that setting to nice effect, with technology and characterizations that fit - except where they don't.
And that's the problem with the show, where it distracts itself from what it really is to pay lip-service to things no one cares about and that the story isn't about. The character changes do detract from the show because they distract from the story being told. It's not arbitrary - the changes were made arbitrarily. The show is then left trying to make them fit, and when it has to do that it stumbles into the weakest moments of the series. It wastes too much time trying to be something it isn't, and that takes away from everything that it is. And that needs to be said.

That doesn't hold a candle to the original. Who asked for this? I don't think anyone did. Is it good overall? Nope, it is not even mediocre. Is the plot exciting? Nope, it is a snooze-fest and ridden with clichés. Are the characters intriguing? Nope, they are cardboard cut-outs. Is the animation well done at least? It's kind of meh. Is the new costume design better than was before? On the contrary. (Especially Harley Quinn's and Catwoman's.) The faces of Dent and Clayface are pretty badly drawn.
All of the villains are boring. The voice acting is horrible: they sound so differently than what you would expect by their looks.
They also had to infest it with their DIE-versity garbage (sex, color and weight changes) even though that doesn't add anything to the story but makes certain scenes laughable and questionable at the same time.
Conclusion: Binge it if you want to waste a couple of hours and you drank enough coffee to keep you from falling asleep.

Just after watching 2 episodes I know this is going to be amazing. First of all, thank you for making batman an actual detective, not just a man who punches dudes. Second, why is penguin a girl? It looks so wrong. Anyway batman is going to be the next greatest show im telling ya'. How can this get any better? One thing i didn't like is that the streets are just empty, ya' know? I really like that they brought ed brubaker to be the executive producer,if you dont know ed brubaker is a great comic book writer (who also did some batman comics). As for age rating, I'd say 11-12 and mabey some mature 10 year olds.

As a kid, I grew up watching Batman: The Animated Series and in fact that show was my introduction to the superhero and comic book genre. Since then, I've watched a lot of Batman shows from The New Batman Adventures, Batman: Beyond, The Batman and Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Now in 2024, we've got a new Batman animated show produced by Bruce Timm, Matt Reeves and J. J. Abrams and it is awesome.
Positives for Batman: Caped Crusader (2024-): This show has that feeling that the original animated series had to it, but at the same time it manages to stand on its own. I loved the voice cast in this show from Hamish Linklater, Jamie Chung, Christina Ricci, Diedrich Bader, Eric Morgan Stuart, Michelle C. Bonilla, Krystal Joy and Jason Watkins. I was invested in the stories of each episode and I was never bored once. I also appreciate that this show focuses on a younger Batman as he's this man who doesn't really feel any human emotion and as the show progresses, there are small glimmers of he starting to show some humanity that could definitely be explored in Season 2. And finally, I appreciated the noir approach to this show.
Overall, I had a blast binge watching through the first season of Batman: Caped Crusader (2024-) and I can't wait for Season 2.
