Michael Cera finally stepping into Wes Anderson’s pastel kingdom is apparently the cinematic moment Benedict Cumberbatch didn’t know he needed. The Sherlock star got real about just how right it feels to see Cera’s offbeat awkwardness meshed with Anderson’s perfectly symmetrical madness in The Phoenician Scheme.
According to Cumberbatch, it’s not just a good fit, but a divine-level casting. Cera steps in like he owns the frame, effortlessly bestowing that offbeat, hyper-stylized energy Anderson thrives on.

Benedict Cumberbatch didn’t hold back. Dropping divine praise on Michael Cera’s unexpected Wes Anderson debut, he alluded (via Variety),
Watching him discover Michael is like God discovering water. It seems like a really natural, obvious element to have in his arsenal as a filmmaker. It was really a perfect partnership.

While Benedict Cumberbatch is most famous now for playing Doctor Strange in the MCU, his initial claim to fame was playing a modern-day version of Sherlock Holmes on BBC. That TV show, which ran for four seasons of three 90-minute episodes each, was an immediate critical success. By the time the season 3 trailer came out, promising a resolution to that famous season 2 cliffhanger of Sherlock faking his own death, "Sherlock" was one of the most talked-about shows of its day.
Sadly, the show was all downhill from there. The writing quality declined, and combined with the increasingly large gaps between seasons, it eventually killed viewers' interest. The season 4 finale in 2017 ended in a way that promised more adventures to come, but nobody seemed to want them anymore. Adding on that both its leads were now rising Hollywood stars, and no one complained much when "Sherlock" was put on indefinite hiatus.

Being unhoused is often associated with the idea of roughness: rough sleeping, having it rough, going through a rough patch. Yet, Frank Dillane’s Mike embodies a contrasting elegance. His delicate limbs tuck tightly against a slender frame when night comes, his contained body quietly lying atop a makeshift bed wrangled with flat cardboard boxes and a thin layer of fabric. This beautiful, angular man is the central character in Harris Dickinson’s feature debut “Urchin,” which takes its name from a largely retired term assigned to mostly unhoused, poor young children dressed in dirty rags.

From Sherlock Holmes to Oliver Twist, urchins have long populated British storytelling, and Dickinson’s contribution to the trope first finds Mike waking up to the loud words of a street preacher, singing the praises of a God he knows not to be all that merciful.

Benedict Cumberbatch has been in many franchises, but he is yet to join the Star Wars franchise. He has played Sherlock Holmes in the BBC series, regularly played Doctor Strange in the MCU, and also ventured into the Kelvin timeline in Star Trek to play Khan. However, the actor is reportedly not interested in doing one role in the Star Wars franchise.
Cumberbatch has been a popular fan cast for Grand Admiral Thrawn, the blue-faced Chiss leader of the Imperial Navy in Star Wars. While he finally made his grand entrance in live-action with Ahsoka, with Lars Mikkelsen playing the part, Cumberbatch was a popular choice from fans after he was teased in The Mandalorian.

Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Watson season 1 finale.
Although Watson’s season 1 finale did kill off one of the show’s closest links to the original Sherlock Holmes canon, season 2 will reportedly feature plenty more links to the iconic detective stories, according to its showrunner. While Watson's cast of characters are engaging on their own, the show's nods to Sherlock Holmes lore are a pivotal part of its success. Watson season 1's ending shocked viewers by killing off Randall Park’s Moriarty, arguably the most famous recurring antagonist from author Arthur Conan Doyle's iconic Sherlock Holmes stories.
Speaking to ScreenRant, Watson showrunner Craig Sweeny confirms that despite Moriarty's death, the Sherlock Holmes lore will continue to be a factor in Watson season 2. Admittedly, there are some concerns about this after the villain's demise. Luckily, it seems like the creative team behind the series will keep its source material at play.

At the beginning of the year, a new medical procedural took an already famous story and flipped it on its head when Watson premiered on CBS. Now, 13 episodes later, and we’ve finally reached the first season conclusion, which partly tied up some major character beefs. Thankfully for fans, the Morris Chestnut-led project was not one of the many titles from the network to receive the axe, with Watson set to unfurl more medical mysteries with Season 2. During its debut run, audiences were treated to an onslaught of recognizable names from across the stories first brought to life by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in the books within the universe of Sherlock Holmes. Bosses at ITV Studios have rejected the notion that there is a UK scripted funding crisis while batting away questions around sale rumors.

“I don’t subscribe to the word ‘crisis’,” said Bellamy, flagging that three of the five biggest British dramas in the past year were made by ITV Studios – four if you include The Gentlemen from newly acquired Moonage Pictures. “You have to take a step back. Hot priest? True Sherlockians know Andrew Scott as something far more sinister—a consulting criminal with a flair for theatrics, moral bankruptcy, and an unsettling fixation on the world’s only consulting detective. Long before his Emmy nod for the slippery antihero Ripley, Scott perfected the art of chaos back in 2010 as the consulting criminal who gave Cumberbatch’s Holmes a run for his intellect—and sanity.
With a smirk and a whisper, he turned Moriarty into a masterclass in villainy. It was Scott’s big boom on the map, and he’s only climbed higher since—now headlining prestige TV, award-worthy films, and electric stage turns.
From mind games in London to moral gray zones in Italy, he’s still three steps ahead. The game, as ever, is on.

David Fincher might be the guy behind your favorite mind-bending thrillers, but on set, he’s got a bit of a reputation — think genius director meets control freak — with a habit of running scenes so many times you lose count (and maybe your sanity). That level of intensity might result in cinematic gold, but not every actor is signing up for round two. In fact, some have quietly (or not-so-quietly) vowed never to step on one of his sets again.
You’d think that an auteur with a Best Director Oscar nomination under his belt would have actors lining up at his door, and in most cases, that’s true. But Fincher’s “my way or 75 takes later” style has pushed even A-listers to their breaking point. We’re talking about stars who’ve headlined billion-dollar franchises, award winners, and indie darlings alike, each walking away with unforgettable performances… and unforgettable tension.

The success of Goalhanger proves that simply isn’t true.” -Tony Pastor - Co Founder...

Spoiler Alert !!!You read, You bleed—Season 5 drama is sharp!
Joe Goldberg is back with more killer instinct.
After years of waiting, Netflix finally dropped the last season of You, and guess what? I had to dig in for more romance and bloodshed. Well, let me tell you, I’m two episodes in, and the show didn’t disappoint. There’s already murder, some budding romance on the side, and Kate is back with her dysfunctional rich family.
And that very family gave me a dinner scene so wild, I had to pause, rewind, and rewatch like it was the Oscars slap all over again. Kate invited Raegan over to calmly discuss their kids—but like every other real-life family dinner, things didn’t take time to escalate. There were passive-aggressive toasts, flying butter knife, and of course, Raegan telling Joe to “eat d*ck” like he’s just Ken.

With CBS looking to form franchises, I’m surprise the network hasn’t looked at expanding the world of Ghosts. The comedy series, based on the British comedy of the same name, has been a huge hit. In fact, it landed a two-season renewal back in February 2025.
While this series does end up mostly being set in one location due to the rules of the spirits and ghost boundaries, there is a way to expand on the show. Pete offered the perfect idea at the end of Ghosts season 4, episode 19. While Sam turned him down on the offer, there is sure to be someone out there who wants to go through with it.
Ghosts can have a detective-style comedy series
Pete was able to solve a cold case during the episode. After learning from Donna that she didn’t kill her husband, Pete decided to head to her former home to get some answers.

There are three ways to turn Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes into a tv series or movie. The first is to do something akin to House, where the bones of the character are there but little else. The second is the Sherlock or Elementary route that reimagines the detective for the modern world. Finally, there is the platonic ideal of the canonically accurate Sherlock of Victorian-era London, which is what Sherlock & Daughter has done.
Sherlock and Daughter finds itself back to basics, but with a new take to differentiate it. Even within this canon-compliant version, the whimsy that has permeated the property is all but gone. What we are presented with is a London that veers much more towards Penny Dreadful than the Robert Downey Jr. films.

A beloved British character actor has been added to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and we've just been offered our first glimpse at the man in action. Disney and Marvel Studios have only just released a brand new trailer for "The Fantastic Four: First Steps," which offers our first look at the film's Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). But it also opens with a glimpse at "Game of Thrones" and "Doctor Who" alum Mark Gatiss, who has an interesting role to play in this summer's superheroic proceedings.
The trailer begins with a speech from the stage of a fictional talk show called "The Ted Gilbert Show," with Gatiss portraying Ted Gilbert. While we don't get to see a ton of him in the footage, save for the opening chunk, Gatiss is very convincing as a retro-futuristic version of a '60s talk show host, that much is certain. His function is to...

Benedict Cumberbatch is an actor known for playing all kinds of roles – geniuses (Sherlock), dragons (The Hobbit trilogy), time-bending doctors (Doctor Strange) and numerous dramatic leading roles. The one thing we don’t get to see him fully lean into very often? Comedy. That’s about to change with The Roses, in which he stars opposite Olivia Colman as a married couple having some pretty extreme relationship troubles. Watch the trailer below.
Cumberbatch and Colman are Theo and Ivy Rose, spouses living a seemingly perfect life with their kids in a beautiful house by the beach. But under the surface, jealousy and resentment starts bubbling up, with Theo’s career takes a downward turn just as Ivy’s is taking off. Cue a series of escalating jabs and retaliations at each other as they start to face their marital problems – including awkward exchanges over dinner, crabs in a bathtub, and gunshots in the kitchen.

Of all the things this world absolutely needs more of (peace, love, common sense) it would be difficult to argue that another Sherlock Holmes adaptation ranks very high on the list. The great detective rarely goes long without getting reimagined yet again; it has, in fact, only been a few months since the Sherlock-based modern-day medical drama Watson, not to be confused with that other, older Sherlock-based modern-day medical drama House.
Now comes The CW’s Sherlock & Daughter, whose innovation on the mythology is right there in the title. As a mystery, it’s no great shakes; at least in the early episodes sent to critics, it’s missing that satisfying snap of clues falling into place in clever ways. But the Brendan Foley-created drama is bolstered by enough winning performances — starting with David Thewlis as the first half of that title — that it’s mostly just nice...

TV has tackled Sherlock Holmes many times over the years, most recently with the BBC’s Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) and the long-running Elementary (Jonny Lee Miller). Currently, there’s Watson with the good doctor as the main character (played by Morris Chestnut) and a missing Holmes (voiced by Matt Berry in a hallucination). Lifelong Sherlock Holmes devotee executive producer Brendan Foley joins the crowd with his new show about the world’s most famous detective, Sherlock & Daughter. In this take, the executive producer wanted it to be set in foggy Victorian London for canon fans, while inviting newcomers in with the introduction of Amelia Rojas (a feisty Blu Hunt), an independent and determined young American woman. “Amelia crashes into the life of Holmes [a perfectly cast prickly David Thewlis, who, like Foley, is a major Holmes fan] like a meteorite,” says Foley. She announces he’s her father and insisting that he investigate the...

Pride and Prejudice remains one of the most enduring and impactful works of Jane Austen, whose bibliography has spawned a myriad of adaptations in movies, television shows, and plays. Just this single book alone has spawned at least 16 different iterations of the story in movies and shows, and now Netflix is developing another one with an impressive creative team. A press release from the Netflix Tudum blog post revealed that Pride and Prejudice would be brought to the small screen through a new six-part series adaptation. A cast and creative team were also revealed, with one star from the Apple TV+ series Slow Horses among the names.

In the post peak-tv landscape of 2025, as the streaming bubble has burst 50 times over, what once was old is new again. The public yearns for the days of linear television’s dominance, when their favorite shows aired seasons longer than six episodes and took hiatuses shorter than three years. And from these cries, a staple television genre has come back in a blaze of glory: the medical procedural.
Netflix has “Pulse,” a (very bad) soapy romance in a hospital that feels like a conscious throwback to mid-2000s peak “Grey’s Anatomy.” ABC has “Doctor Odyssey,” a cheeky cocktail of Ryan Murphy excess starring Joshua Jackson as a DILFy cruise ship physician. NBC has “St. Denis Medical,” an amusing mockumentary sitcom set at a hospital, and “Brilliant Minds,” which is basically “House” if House was explicitly gay. CBS has “Watson,” which is also basically just “House” except based on Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes sidekick.

Less than a week after HBO's original movie Mountainhead received a title and a premiere date, it's already ski jumped into the top five in Gold Derby's Best TV Movie Emmy predictions.
Why? The telefilm about a group of billionaire friends who deal with a financial crisis while at a swanky ski resort has an awards-worthy pedigree both behind the scenes and in front of the camera. Mountainhead is written and directed by Jesse Armstrong, the seven-time Emmy winner for Succession. This marks his directorial debut.
The cast is led by Steve Carell , Jason Schwartzman, Cory Michael Smith, and Ramy Youssef as the four main billionaires. They're joined by Hadley Robinson, Andy Daly, Ali Kinkade, Daniel Oreskes, David Thompson, Amie MacKenzie, and Ava Kostia.
Recent Emmy history has been a wipeout for made-for-television movies, particularly in the acting categories, as the format has mostly been abandoned in favor of limited series.

Benedict Cumberbatch Abduction Near Death(Photo Credit –Wikimedia)
Before his Marvel fame and Sherlock stardom, Benedict Cumberbatch faced a nightmare most wouldn’t dare envision. Back in 2004, while filming in South Africa, the Hollywood star found himself in a life-or-death situation. And his mind went to some terrifying places.
“I was really worried that I was going to get raped or molested or just tortured or toyed with in some way, some act of control and savagery,” he said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
The English star wasn’t overstating. The location was KwaZulu-Natal, a treacherous region north of Durban. Cumberbatch and his co-stars, Theo Landey and Denise Black, were returning from a scuba diving weekend when catastrophe struck. A tire burst on a dark, cold stretch of road. While they scrambled to fix it, they were jumped by armed men.

If you’re not already obsessed with Poker Face, you’ve got time to catch up before Season 2 drops, and trust me, you’ll want to. The show follows Charlie Cale, played by the always iconic Natasha Lyonne, a human lie detector with zero filters, a messy past, and a habit of stumbling into murder scenes like it’s her full-time job. She’s not a cop, not a private eye, but just a woman on the run with a beat-up car, a killer sense of intuition, and the world’s worst luck when it comes to staying out of trouble.
Season 1 had major Columbo energy with a modern twist. Each episode was its own little mystery movie, with Charlie solving a fresh murder in a new town while dodging the rich and shady people trying to take her out.

"Listen and learn!" "You have my word as your daughter." The CW has unveiled an official trailer for a new series called Sherlock & Daughter, yet another fun new Sherlock Holmes reboot with a new twist or two. The crime-solving mystery TV series created by Brendan Foley, based on the Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, will debut this month on The CW and streaming on Discovery+. Sherlock Holmes faces a sinister case risking friends' lives. American Amelia joins, seeking her father after her mother's murder. Despite differences, they solve a conspiracy and her mother's case. Amelia also sets out to prove the great detective is her long-lost father. Starring David Thewlis as Sherlock Holmes, Blu Hunt as Amelia Rojas, Dougray Scott as Professor Moriarty, Antonio Aakeel, Orén Kinlan, Gia Hunter, Ivana Miličević, and Paul Reid as Inspector Bullivant. Looks fun but obviously a gimmicky series for The CW fans to enjoy.

Is it me, or does every episode of The Wheel of Time feel like a movie? Given how epic and cinematic the story has become, we should be watching this show in a theater.
I’ll say one thing about the show: It has no shortage of incredibly complex characters who are more layered than the average person. And this story? It’s fully immersive, with the action practically flying off the screen.
The Wheel of Time has not slowed down for a moment during the third season. But how could it, with so many characters moving in the shadows, each with their own plots and agendas?
(Courtesy of Prime Video)
The only thing I might have to ding the series for is being a little unclear about what everyone is trying to accomplish. Technically, I’m mostly talking about the bad guys.

Two major TV deals this past week — ITV Studios’ acquisition of a majority stake in The Gentlemen producer Moonage Pictures and MediaForEurope’s takeover bid for German broadcaster Pro7Sat.1 —highlight a hard truth for Europe’s legacy networks: It’s grow or die.
Europe’s traditional TV powerhouses are scrambling to build scale to survive the onslaught from the global streaming giants who are eating into their audience share and shrinking their profit margins. Across the continent, once unassailable regional champions are suddenly vulnerable.
Take Pro7Sat.1. The Munich-based broadcaster booked operating (Ebitda) profits of more than $600 million (557 million euros) last year and saw revenues inch up slightly, to more than $4.2 billion (3.9 billion euros), but TV ad revenue was down for their third year running, slipping around 5 percent to $1.6 billion (1.47 billion euros). So when its leading shareholder MediaForEurope (Mfe), the pan-European broadcasting group controlled by Italy’s Berlusconi family,...

Exclusive: Kevin Proctor, a British producer involved in making the Brian Epstein biopic Midas Man, appeared in court Wednesday to face a charge of stalking an actress.
The 46-year-old was present today at the Tameside Magistrates’ Court in the north of England, where he was accused of “stalking involving serious alarm/distress.” The charge relates to his treatment of Nicola Holt, an actress and model who has appeared in series including Viewpoint and Hollyoaks.
Proctor was due to enter a plea but applied for an adjournment on medical grounds. The court agreed to reschedule the plea hearing for May 30 at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court.
Proctor, who spoke to confirm his name and address, has been remanded on conditional bail until the hearing. To prevent witness interference or the obstruction of justice, the producer cannot contact Holt or enter Bolton, a town in Greater Manchester. Deadline has contacted Proctor for comment.

ITV Studios has bought A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder producer Moonage Pictures.
The ITV production-distribution arm has taken a majority stake in Will Gould, Matthew Read and Frith Tiplady’s drama outfit, which also co-produced The Gentlemen and Netflix’s The Leopard. International distribution of new Moonage Pictures shows will be handled by ITV Studios.
Deadline had revealed several months back that Moonage was on the sales block. BBC Studios previously had a minority interest in the company, which it took upon launch in 2018. There was understood to have been plenty of interest in Moonage and the sale had generated chatter in UK TV M&a and production circles. Turnover and post-tax profits soared last year to £89M ($115M) and £6.8M respectively, according to Moonage’s latest Companies House filing.
Moonage is currently working on second seasons of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, The Gentlemen and Nicolas Winding Refn’s The Famous Five adaptation.
