Arthur Curry, the human-born heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, goes on a quest to prevent a war between the worlds of ocean and land.
Jeff Nichols and Noam Murro were considered to direct the film.
Jesse (Manta's Father):
This was your grandfather's. He was one of the first black frogmen in World War II. He was so good at what he did that he got the name Manta. However, when the people he worked for didn't appreciate him enough, he went back to the sea.
As Arthur and Mera are sailing away from Sicily, much of their dialogue shows them at the stern of the boat, with the boat's wake and the setting sun behind them. The final shot of the sequence, from behind the boat, shows it sailing forward towards the setting sun. The sun (or the boat) has changed location by 180 degrees.
The Warner Brothers logo is sunk and half-buried at the bottom of the ocean, reflecting Atlantis's history.
The UK theatrical version was cut to remove bloody detail to secure a 12A rating. That version was also used for the home media release.
