In Danger's Path

Helen Holmes receives a wire: the railroad thieves have been spotted throwing cargo out the sides of the freight train that has just pulled up. She rushes out to save the day.... but the scoundrels grab her, and lock her in a refrigerated car, then get in another one to continue their taking ways. As the train pulls out, Helen starts to freeze, so she breaks up a pallet and makes a fire like a good girl scout..... and sets the entire reefer ablaze!

How embarrassing! In the 119 chapters of THE HAZARDS OF HELEN, it's almost invariably the grit of the girl telegrapher that has her leaping from water towers or riding her horse at 70 miles an hour to save the day.. In this one, she has to rely on a bunch of men to notice a burning rail car, and that's so chancy. Still, it will soothe their fragile male egos that she may have saved them 118 times, but this once, four or five of them get together to save her. That's the one they'll remember of course, poor dears.
