  • Honestly, I love Thai Movie, cause they always have many interesting original ideas, including Deep. The movie was good in the first few minutes but the rest is terrible. The characters development is so weak and that makes Deep going down with the speechless ending.

Anyhow, I won't waste your time if you want to find something to entertain on a boring night.
  • I saw this on Netflix.

Ive not seen that many Thai films before, i can think of 2, Shutter and Ong Bak. I've been to Thailand once on holiday so I'm no expert on Thai culture.

The premise of the film is decent.

Its a drug trial based on sleep deprivation, 4 teens from the same College sign up with the lure of large sums of money, ( for a young Thai person ).

The opportunity to explore these ideas were however wasted. It soon became a teen drama full of stereotypes and movie tropes.

The film was well shot but the acting wasn't great with the exception of the female lead who had a decent presence. I watched in Thai original and English subtitles so I can imagine some of the translations were culturally altered.

The opening 30 mins were interesting but when I was expecting things to go deeper the middle section became a teen drama.

The ending is where it fell apart with multiple plot holes ' the twist ' and contrived story telling.

Its meandering entertainment at best, I think even many Teens would find a lot of this a bit too fluffy and childish.

Ive marked it slightly higher for its production values and good female lead but its probably more like a 5.

They would have got away with it if it wasn't for them pesky kids !!!
  • The execution was not that good, I loved the idea of the story and we could feel what the actors feel when they were not allowed to sleep. But too many plot holes here, the ending is nearly cringe!
  • These people for the dubbing?! It's so bad and so cringy. Especially when they are trying to do an English Asian accent. What is the point?

Overall the movie was kinda dumb. These people are in med school, meaning they are fully grown adults already done with college, yet the way they are portrayed you'd think they were in high school. I had to keep reminding myself they were grown. The premise was good but the execution was awful. And the ending destroyed everything. 1 star for visuals and cinematography.
  • Thai sci-fi thriller had exciting concepts about sleep deprivation. Obviously five directors still couldn't get things right and went downhill with several plot holes and poor choices. Four young cast also forced unnecessary teen problems without reasonable causes.

I stopped watching after 1 hour, the idea was amazing, kind of new thing but suddenly it changes from sci fi thriller movie to a childish teen drama and it is not the kind of drama that u would like.

I thought it will be kind of thrill that will make me anxious and feeling tense for the whole time but it was not. Its a movie for teenagers dancing drinking....etc. Nothing cool about it at all.
  • It is a very simple science fiction which is not so diificult to understand. But it keep your thrill. Predictable but no boring at all. I found the movie is interesting and director tries to build the story out of box.

I think the effort should deserve more ratings than which i see here.
  • Im not saying this is a good movie. As said by many others reviewers, it's a great idea, but poorly executed.

    But...

If you take a look at the profiles of the main cast and crew, will notice this is the first to third job of many of then in a non mainstream low budget production, mostly funded by a phone service company.

Little of the movie problems are in the acting and direction. The big chunk of it rest in the screenplay. Have six people writing one single script will almost always end in a convoluted story line. They will add and cut stuff, they will argue and disagree and in the end will be so focused on details and forget the big picture. Even so, one final review from an outside and critical eye would have made wonders to the movie.

I liked most of it. Skipped a lot of soap opera drama parts. Lots of potential for a western remake.
  • Fair acting for the most part - quite liked the music and the story was decent and well told.

    Certianly worth a watch.
  • Characters are very interesting but they don't bring those interestingnesses to the movies. The reasons for them to take a deep are not reasonable. They are round characters but not constantly change. Storyline is very easy to guess and some scenes are quite confusing. The ending is more confusing. It's like they try to force the ending to be very surprised but it's not that surprising.
  • Though it was a little(just a little like 2%) disappointing at the end(the reason for creating deep) it had a good ending. Worth watching it once. Had an amazing start and mid.

    Warning: Spoilers
This is a good movie. The pace at some moments of the film is quite slow. The story has good ideas. But there are decisions in the film that will make you scratch your head. The characters are smart students but logic is to be put aside. Just think of it as part of a greater picture. That's for the negative.

    Anyhow, the positive points are:
    • the characters are rich. I mean they're all different in the way they live their lives. There is a partygoer, a student A, an influencer and a gamer which represent most of the youngsters we have today.

    • the plot is quite different from the thriller or any other movie that scare people. When going into the movie, we might think they'll just all die one by one. However, this doesn't happen. They, at least, help each other to overcome death and stay alive. That's a big plus for me.

    • the characters mature in the film. The gamer gets friends, the party boy restores his relationship with his dad. The sisters trust in one another, etc.

    Overall a good watch.
  • At a relatively brief 101 minutes, 'Deep' feels too long because there's not a lot going on and the one-dimensional characters get old fast. And even with five(!!!) directors - Sita Likitvanichkul, Jetarin Ratanaserikiat, Apirak Samudkidpisan, Thanabodee Uawithya, and Adirek Wattaleela - involved, the film doesn't do enough with its high-concept premise to feel fresh or exciting.

The movie is just Ok with a good plot but the plot is too short which makes the film inconsequential and turns to more of a teen drama.
  • Warning: Spoilers
The idea of the movie is interesting and I think it is sci fi but the movie feel almost kinda cheap come of age. The editing is nice the music is not good and too much drama. Meny plot hole.
  • Why Thai directors stopped making movies like Fen Chan, Puan Sanit or One Day? Where all the talent gone? Why so many new Thai directors are trying to produce overly cool and overly smart movies resulting in idiotic movies like this one or Ghost Lab for example...
  • Does not focus much on the experiment part of the film. Seems to fill in the time with young people partying and listening to loud music. Back stories of the main characters are not initially explained.
  • Warning: Spoilers
I love medical Sci Fi (my favorite sub-genre) and I went into this with high hopes. Finished Biohackers just recently and expected similar vibe from this one while allowing space of surprises and, obviously, original plot.

Little to say, it was severely disappointing. The plot is extremely shallow, dealing mostly with the 'shock value' effects of prolonged sleep deprivation, completely neglecting individual characters' internal battle with it.

There are inaccuracies and unbelievable plot elements.

We do know how long someone can go without sleep - 11 days max.

Maybe it's a cultural thing but I find it hard to believe people would be talked into doing suicide mission for the sake of someone they had a bowling outing with.

The villain/s of the story are way too 'bloodthirsty' for medical research professionals.

I can't figure out whether the whole thing was officially in the blank or not, and if the contracts were just for show/buying time or not. In either case, pacing themselves and allowing their volunteers to remain volunteers would be more productive and would save them a lot of trouble.

Its a lovely, stylish movie with believable characters and an engaging plot...for about 2/3rds of the movie.

The last third gets weird, and smacks of having to wrap up a plot without knowing how, exactly, they wanted to do that.

Still, the first 2//3rds of the movie are good enough that I forgave the last bit, and we simply had a good laugh at the ending. Give it a go for your next movie night- its fun!

The narration of the movie is very complicated and it is a very slow movie. It's not worth your time.
  • Different concept but exaggerated. Scenes were intensifying.

    Teens performance was good.
  • This was a low budget coming of age scify movie. Mostly panned but I thought it was great fun. Worth a watch.

    Worst acting. Worst director.

Just like try to be cool but turn on low level film.

This is first movie that have try in product in Netflix Original 🤣🤣🤣
  • Warning: Spoilers
The first half is good but the twist and the ending are dissapointing. I really hope that Jane dies so they'll learn something from that incident and add another reason for police to close the research. I think maybe it would be good if they add a detective who investigates cases of people who committed suicide as a result of research and the mastermind of the research has to be bigger than that. But afterall, it's quite good to be added on watching list if you confused how to spend your time during quarantine.
  • Well, this was something else alright.

I had the opportunity to sit down and watch the 2021 Thai Netflix movie "Deep", and I did so without ever having heard about the movie. But the synopsis presenting the movie sounded interesting enough, so of course I gave "Deep" a go. And needless to say that the fact it was a Thai movie that I hadn't already seen, also helped to make me want to watch it.

I am rather amazed that not one, but no less than six writers could collectively manage to come up with such a boring storyline. And I am a bit at a loss here what writers Sita Likitvanichkul, Kittitat Nokngam, Jetarin Ratanaserikiat, Apirak Samudkidpisan, Wisit Sasanatieng and Thanabodee Uawithya were trying to accomplish with the storyline the concocted for "Deep". Sure, I get the whole sleep deprevation concept, but other than that, the movie was just a heap of rubbish.

The acting in the movie was not impressive. But I am sure that it wasn't because of the actresses and actors, but the fault lies with the shoddy and subpar writing and the lack of a properly interesting script. I wasn't familiar with the performers in this movie, which usually is something I enjoy in a movie. But given the total absense of an interesting storyline, then there was just no enjoyment to be had here from the performances.

"Deep" from directors Sita Likitvanichkul, Jetarin Ratanaserikiat, Apirak Samudkidpisan, Thanabodee Uawithya and Adirek Wattaleela was a swing and a miss. It was a movie with an interesting enough concept and synopsis, but the execution on the screen was just not impressive.

I am rating "Deep" a mere three out of ten stars.
