I saw Wayward, starring Iyana Halley-This Is Us_tv, Licorice Pizza; Barton Fitzpatrick-White People Money, The Chi_tv and Darius McCrary-Saw 6, Family Matters_tv.

This is another of those B grade movies that are really bad-some B movies are good but this one isn't one of them. Iyana plays a girl that is on her way to a music festival in her van, travelling all by herself. She stops at a bar and meets Barton and they make a connection. She even invites him to go with her to the festival, claiming she needs company. You see, there is a serial killer working in the area that is killing and dismembering his victims-an equal opportunity killer, killing both men and women-and Iyana thinks she will be safer with company. On the road, Iyana and Barton notice that they are being followed by Darius, who gives chase and starts hitting their van and trying to crash into them, confirming their worst fears. The acting is amateurish, the plot has some twists, but they are predictable and the situations are unrealistic-a real person wouldn't act like that.

It's not rated but I would say it's an R for violence, grisly images and language and has a running time of 1 hour & 18 minutes.

I would not buy this one on DVD or even rent it. If you really have a hankering to see it, I would wait until it comes to tv.

It has potential but there're a few things that just ruin it.

#1) Very bad & cheesy ending, its really hysterical actually, I won't say anymore I don't want to spoil it, and really you have to see it to understand.

#2) Movie flaws: did they not do any research or testing. For one a trail of gasoline does ignite & burn, I've done it many times to start fires, yet they quote a non existent myth buster episode saying its not possible. Another; putting a potato in an exhaust pipe wouldn't do what it did here, I won't go into a long explanation, look it up or try it. There're a few others I noticed, but those 2 were common knowledge & easy to spot.

#3) If she's so against his killing people why'd she shot the father of the son. That makes her just as bad as him, oya and that laugh😖😬 I think she's the true psycho.

#4) controversial I know but fair is fair; Why do "black cinema" genre movies have no other races, not even as extras, I really can't believe it's a genre at all, I know white cinema would never be ok or WET for that matter.

Not bad acting, good camera work, and it had potential, sooo = 5/10 -Worth the watch I guess.

After seeing the trailer for Wayward, I added it to my watchlist for the sole purpose of laughing at how bad it is. This is something I do often, with the GOATs being The Room and Batman & Robin. With Wayward, not even the trailer could hide the rock-bottom quality.

After watching it, I can confirm the low quality in every filmmaking aspect imaginably. But, to my surprise, I was enjoying it aside from the "SoBad" aspect. I was still laughing at so much, but I was invested in the story and characters. I don't think this has ever happened to me.

I like both leads even though I don't think they give good performances. I'm not sure how to explain it. There are some cool story ideas that I wish I could see in a great movie. And as I mentioned before, I was curious to see the story unfold throughout the movie. I'm baffled that I never said, "I don't care."

But this is still a poorly made movie across the board. I can forgive some of the things that have to do with budgetary restrictions. But many parts feel so old and outdated. There is one shot where, if you showed it to me out of context, I would have easily believed it's from a 1980's movie. And there are definitely a bunch of things to laugh at and make fun of. By the time we get to the last act, things go off the rails... in a hilarious way.

I had a good time with this movie, mostly amused by the bad, but also entertained in the way it was intended. Strictly on the SoBad scale I would give it 6 stars, but maybe up to 8 stars if you include the intended enjoyment. (1 viewing, 1/11/2023)

    SPOILERS

I was in awe during the final act when they show us how crazy she is. She's basically Dexter, who I adore. This would have been an awesome twist in an already great movie. Instead I laughed at how she was basically giggling like a child while she was running through the woods and doing karate kicks. Although I enjoyed the explanation exposition.

A few things I remember that made me laugh:

-The movie starts off with a guy in a parked car getting punched in the face by his steering wheel. I think they were trying to imply that the Maniac Mechanic slammed his head into it, but I went frame by frame, there was no one there.

-The crazy driver rammed them from behind, but they cut and edited the shot so they wouldn't have to actually damage either car.

-Later we see a closeup shot of the back of the van after the ramming. The license plate is bent which is a smart, cost-effective way to imply a crash. But then I noticed 20-30 crayon markings that are suppose to be the scratches and dents. I couldn't believe it. If that's the best you can do, then just don't show the back of the van rofl.

-All the car chases are hilarious. Can't remember the last time I've seen shots sped up to make it look like a faster chase.
  • What is this supposed to be? Horror??? Watch something else and skip this trash. So a serial killer that abducted and killed 13 people is this same clown that is rolling on dust like a toddler. I would've given it a 3 or at least a 2 from how it started but it went right down into the garbage bin fast.

Clunky, unrealistic dialogue that no actual people would utter, one note acting, totally predictable plot, and extreme violence all combined makes this one of the best candidates for future riffing. Our audience consisted of one other group far away, so we had a good time riffing it there.

    Warning: Spoilers
I don't know who's thought it was to finalize and create this movie but it was terrible. The action in it was garbage and the whole storyline it's self was just bad. A good portion of the movie is just a long chase scene. Meet a stranger, go on a road trip, get chased by the "killer", "killer" dies, it's not the killer who was supposed to die lmao. This movie was pretty much slapped together wit a $30,000 budget at best. You know how mad you gotta be to write a review on a movie lol.

This was the absolute worst movie ever. Predictable and STOOPID. Made no damn sense at all. I'm so mad I will never get the time back. Whoever rated this more must be bias to making this movie being a part of it.
  • This is a very good thriller that held my attention throughout! I was stumped as to how it would play out. The stars are all very good in their roles. Scary scenes made me jump several times! There's not a lot of great thrillers produced these days so let's support a good one. Please make more movies like this!!!

Plot was bad and didn't make sense. The killer was predictable. The acting was cringe. Why the hell waste money on this? I just don't understand why producers decide to put money into a film knowing that it's gonna turn out horrible and they'll likely won't make a profit.
  • Maybe I'm a lil twisted, but I actually enjoyed the twist in the end. I enjoyed the dialogue and banter in the movie if nothing else. I was entertained!
  • The movie had a great opening; it catches your attention from the beginning. The rest of the movie is a mix of plots, twists, and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. You never know who is who.
  • This was completely and utterly a gigantic turd of a movie. How does this movie have a 7.3 on imdb? Terrible acting and like the review before me it was completely predictable.
  • Glad to see Barton Fitzpatrick back on screen from Power Force now Wayward. Good and crazy storyline with a few good twists. Something a little different. I like the suspense as apart of theme as well as some of its comedic feels.
  • Really enjoyed this! The twists and turns are good and I really was not sure what was going on or how this would end. Which is a good thing in thriller! Also good to see black people cast in a different light. Highly recommend this!
  • Okay, look, don't listen to the bad reviews. The bad reviews are either from Kevin Samuels' minded Black men or jealous females. This film was GOOD! The film has great acting, and beautiful scenery and the lead actress was awesome! It had fear, suspense and an ending that people could be proud of. If you liked films like Kill Bill 2 or the Hitcher or even Wrong Turn, then you will love this film and you'll never guess the ending because it has a twist that you wouldn't believe! Trust me, see this film, it's good! Take my word for it. On a scale of one to ten, I'd give it an absolute full ten! Kudos to the filmmaker and the cast!
  • This was enjoyable but something felt off,as though it was a television series episode.

It was clichéd with plot holes,as mentioned didn't have a movie feel.

The actors to their acting was fine,as was the cinematography.

The storyline was good could of been great, with perhaps better direction or something.

This type of genre theme, has been done & perhaps better.. Think of movies like the Hitcher, etc.

Was a mild thriller/horror style movie, but what made up for that was the twists later on.. Simply for that fact, give it a watch & not based on reviews alone.

Would I watch this,again.. Probably not.
