Who doesn't love a good crossover? Besides the fact that they settle nerds' constant debates of "who would win in a fight between ___ and ___?," there's something so exciting about seeing the main characters of two or more different franchises coming together for the first time ever. Another reason why crossovers have so much appeal with audiences is that there are often legal reasons why characters from one series can't mingle with those of another, making the times when they do meet on the big (or small) screen all the more special.
Crossovers got a massive boost in popularity due to the wildly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, crossovers haven't only been relegated to the superhero realm; for decades, there have been numerous other examples of fictional worlds colliding across numerous genres. In fact, well before Nick Fury appeared at the end of "Iron Man" to tell Tony Stark about the Avengers Initiative,...

The Meg's success has got some people wondering if there's gas in the oversized snake tank.
Resident Evil franchise masterminds Constantin Film and Jb Pictures have got a Titanoboa movie in development. The movie is looking to The Meg for inspiration as it plans to feature the giant extinct snake coming back from the dead somehow to wreak havoc, likely on some wholly unprepared humans.
The Titanoboa movie is being fast-tracked, according to Deadline, and will begin filming next year. There are no cast details to share with you yet, but Tony Giglio is penning the script right now. Jeremy Bolt and Robert Kulzer, the team working to make Monster Hunter a success, are behind the film.

Roger Corman and folks at The Asylum have a lot to answer for… That’s all I’m saying.
Sharknado. A film that proved you don’t have to have a lot of money or great CGI to pull in an audience on the Syfy channel. All you need is a giant creature and a ridiculous concept! Albion Court is the least ‘des res’ in the neighbourhood – a hangout for drug dealers, rife with squatters and two residents recently died in an apparent bizarre suicide pact. However when Sarah (Roxanne Pallett) in thrown out by her abusive, alcoholic mother (Frances Ruffelle), she has no choice but to move in to the notorious block. Determined to make the best of things Sarah tries to settle in but she is disturbed by bizarre neighbours, strange sounds coming through the paper-thin walls, creepy images on the TV and an overwhelming feeling that she is being watched.
Things get a whole lot worse when a badly mutilated body of one of her neighbours is found hanging in the lift and more and more residents begin to disappear – including squatter-come-burglar...

Ghost Shark is not writer-director Griff Furst's first Syfy rodeo. Arachnoquake, Swamp Shark and Lake Placid 3 all bear his name as director. (He's also acted in quite a few Syfy movies.) Ghost Shark, though, is the first that gives him writing credit, for the story of a town haunted by the bloodthirsty phantom of a great white (airing Thursday, Aug. 22 at 9/8c). TV Guide Magazine spoke to Furst about the mechanics of a ghost shark kill, how one comes by the title of "Syfy original movie director," and the specter of Sharknado.

When it comes to reviewing a Part 4, I often like to start out with a quick and hopefully helpful little "franchise history lesson," just to bring everyone up to speed -- but is that really necessary at this point? Probably not. What was once a strange but amusing little matinee movie from a well-known TV producer has (somehow, slowly) turned into a cable TV sequel franchise that exists for nothing more than to fill a random Saturday night slot with a lot of silliness and a bunch of crocodile madness. Congrats to the goofily-named Lake Placid 4: it not only qualifies under those criteria, it's also the most stupidly entertaining entry in this non-franchise since the first one... which wasn't all that great but hey, people who love movies about man-eating crocodiles* can't afford to be all that discerning. But for the sake of tradition: Lake Placid (1999), written by David E. Kelley...

This time round it’s the story of an earthquake in the Deep South that, besides making a mess of the roads, unleashes a swarm of albino spiders of all shapes and sizes who, as they do in these types of movies, converge on New Orleans to reek havoc on the locals.

Next week Discovery Channel begins its annual salute to nature’s perfect predators, but the festivities really begin on Syfy this Saturday night when an Asylum movie entitled Shark Week has its world premiere.
As you’ll see from the trailer below, what we have here is Jaws meets Saw.
The same writing/directing duo behind The Asylum’s earlier 2-Headed Shark Attack, Christopher Ray and H. Perry Horton, have reunited for an even bigger feeding frenzy.
I think as you read the plot synopsis below, we can all agree that this is pretty much where the Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week” will inevitably lead.
Synopsis:
A group of complete strangers find themselves isolated by a wealthy madman on his island compound. They are forced into a horrifying gauntlet where they must survive a barrage of ever deadlier species of shark.

You really have got to hand it to The Asylum. Not content to just do mockbusters of big screen movies, now they’re mockbustering an entire week of programming on a cable television network with Shark Week.

One of the all-time great screen villains, Michael Ironside also has a tendency to lose body parts. Phil celebrates the Laurence Olivier of the missing limb...
If there is one thing guaranteed to get me to watch a film, regardless of my mood or the movie’s reputation, it would be the sentence, “It’s got Michael Ironside in it”. I’m just a huge fan, and have loved his work ever since I first saw the original V TV mini-series one balmy childhood summer while I was staying at my Auntie Anne's.
As Ham Tyler, the leather jacketed ex-cia agent who becomes an instrumental figure in the Los Angeles Resistance movement, Ironside seemed to dominate every scene he was in, and what impressed me most about his zero tolerance approach to the alien visitors was that here was a good guy who looked and sounded like a bad guy.

This Saturday night, November 12th, marks that magical time again when Syfy dips into the Sasquatchploitation genre for a new movie. If you want to witness what it looks like when the Abominable Snowman gets pissed, then have a look at these video clips from Rage of the Yeti.

When I reviewed Lake Placid 3 last year, I stated that the best part of the film was Yancy Butler’s surly croc hunter. The producers must have agreed since she’s just been signed to star in Lake Placid 4 despite her character having died in the previous film.
Yes, Virginia, there will be a Lake Placid 4. Bloody Disgusting broke the news that Yancy Butler (“Witchblade”) has signed on to star in it. This weekend’s Jabberwock gives the Syfy creature feature treatment to the insect-headed dragon of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. Syfy has posted two clips from the medieval monster movie from I Spit on Your Grave remake director Steven R. Monroe.
Jabberwock stars Michael Worth (“Acapulco H.E.A.T.”, Sasquatch Mountain), Tahmoh Penikett (“Battlestar Galactica”, Trick ‘r Treat), and Kacey Barnfield (Resident Evil: Afterlife, Lake Placid 3). Rafael Jordan (Frost Giant, Yeti: Curse of the Snow Demon) and Raul Inglis (Sand Serpents, Goblin) handled the scripting duties.
Here’s a rather spoiler-y synopsis for Jabberwock courtesy of the film’s distributors at American World Pictures that was clearly written by someone who confused the concept of synopsis with treatment. Whoever wrote it also doesn’t have much need for silly things like paragraphs. Believe me, when I start giving grammar lessons, you've got problems.

Okay, let's get one thing clear. Mega Python vs. Gatoroid is a bad movie. The film contains glaring continuity errors, the acting gets pretty wooden at times, the script is just as lazy as you'd expect and the CGI is pretty bad (though not as bad as Lake Placid 3). In short, it's everything you'd expect from The Asylum, but that's not to say the film isn't a lot of fun. While it doesn't reach the inspired heights of unintentional lunacy in Mega Piranha, director Mary Lambert keeps things moving with very little drag time and refuses to take things too seriously.
The movie opens with Dr. Nikki Riley (Debbie Gibson), an environment activist, breaking into a building to steal a bunch of exotic pythons. With her are Gia and Ben, who are...

Griff the Invisible
Directed by: Leon Ford
Starring: Ryan Kwanten, Maeve Dermody, Marshall Napier
Rating: Not Yet Rated
Release Date: August 19, 2011
Trailer Score: 4/10
Thoughts by Tsr: Nope, this is not a Michael Rapaport documentary about Public Enemy‘s inconspicuous Professor Griff, this is Leon Ford’s Griff the Invisible, or as I’d like to call it: Kick Ass meets Charlie Bartlett.
Yeah, based solely on this trailer, I think that’s about as accurate a descriptor as possible, though it looks much less sleek than Kick Ass and Kwanten looks much less likable than the lovable Anton Yelchin.
Too many trailer cliches bounced off the screen here. From the nerdy guy getting the pretty girl, to the cheesy over-the-top emotey music, to the “and then he did this outrageousness to his obnoxious co-worker,” only to find that he was just fantasizing. Seriously, how many times have we seen that mechanism employed?...

Roadkill, part of Syfy's fan-favorite "Maneater" series, hits DVD this coming August 16th from Rhi Entertainment and Vivendi Entertainment. Read on for a look at the cover art.
Roadkill (review here) revisits the well-used premise of a group of young people heading out for a weekend of fun and partying, only for it to go horribly wrong when they run afoul of backwoods locals. Eliza Bennet (Inkheart, Nanny McPhee), Kacey Barnfield (Resident Evil: Afterlife, Lake Placid 3), and Stephen Rea (V for Vendetta, Citizen X, and Oscar nominated Best Actor for The Crying Game) star in this creature feature from director Johannes Roberts (When Evil Calls, Forest of the Damned) and writer Rick Suvalle ("V.I.P.").

Actor Abraham Benrubi takes the lead in the David Arquette helmed horror effort 'Glutton'. The new psychological thriller which revolves around a 1200-pound man (played by Benrubi) will be Arquette's second go at directing within the genre following his 2006 serial killer effort 'The Tripper'. Over the weekend the new movie received a couple of interesting cast additions in the form of David's sister Patricia Arquette and rising star Kacey Barnfield ('Jabberwocky'). This won't be the first time David has directed his sister having helmed a few episodes of Patricia's hit series 'Medium' in the past. Kacey (below), star of 'Lake Placid 3' and 'Resident Evil: Afterlife', will be joining the project when the production begins shooting next month in Canada....

It feels like it has been too long since Syfy has uncorked some new man-eating monster movies for us to sink our teeth into. That'll change come June when the network unleashes a pair of toothy monstrosities: Ice Road Terror and Swamp Shark. Syfy has posted a trio of bloody scenes from each monster mash.
The carnage begins on June 11th at 9/8 Central when Ice Road Terror reaches its destination on your television dial. Dylan Neal ("Dawson's Creek", "Blood Ties") and Brea Grant (Halloween II, "Heroes") star in this creature feature about Alaskan ice road truckers and a research analyst tangling with an unearthed prehistoric monster. The director (Terry Ingram) and writer (Keith Shaw) of Syfy's Phantom Racer reteam for this creature feature inspired by the popular reality series "Ice Road Truckers". Curiously, though, one thing you will not actually see in these clips is any actual ice road trucking.

It’s not hard to see why out of about 10 different DVDs, the first one my hand gravitates towards is called, Hyenas. What’s not to love about hyenas that eat people? The cover is simple and straight forward; a giant snarling hyena probably laughing and saying mean things about Mufasa because that’s what hyenas do. Imagine my surprise then, when within the first few minutes of the film, the “hyenas” are seen driving cars and wearing Ray-Bans. That’s right, these hyenas are more like werewolves---only not as cool and worse at acting.
The latest muck that Lionsgate Dtv offers up is the latest creative spin on the werewolf genre and it’s terrible. So terrible in fact that the best actor cast in the film is none other than that...

Don't even try to tell me you havne't wondered who would win in a battle between history's greatest titans. That's right, I'm talking about an epic battle between a robot, a dinosaur, a man and earth's greatest threat of all... a woman!
Man vs. Woman is short film from 2006 directed by Juan Carlos Vargas who has done a tone of FX supervosing for films like SyFy's Annihilation Earth and TV's Lake Placid 3. Vargas also has a really cool sounding project in the works called Elimination about a bunch of actors who audition for a reality show for a million dollars. All they have to do is survive three killers, and each other - streaming live over the Internet. It was in dev in 2010, but we haven't heard since then so I hope we hear more from it soon.

As a sci-fi geek, I’m not ashamed to admit I love SyFy TV shows Eureka and Warehouse 13, which are returning to DVD in July. Warehouse 13: Season 2 arrives on June 28 and Eureka: Season 4.0 on July 5 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.
Eureka Season 4
In Warehouse 13, Saul Rubinek (Barney’s Version) plays the head of a secret government department that hunts down and stores such supernatural objects as Icarus’ wings and Edgar Alan Poe’s pen, which when used, can end disastrously. The show stars Eddie McClintock (TV’s Bones) and Joanne Kelly (TV’s The Dresden Files) as former Secret Service agents who get recruited to work at Warehouse 13 tracking down the mythical artifacts and Jaime Murray (TV’s Spartacus: Gods of the Arena) as the infamous H.G. Wells.

SyFy has set a June 25 premiere date for Swamp Shark , the latest in its string of nature-run-amok thrillers. Kristy Swanson, Db Sweeney and Robert Davi star in this cheap-o fodder directed by Griff Furst, the man who gave us Lake Placid 3 . In the film, a great white shark mutates and adapts to freshwater when a Us Government bio-terrorism research facility spills its radioactive chemicals into the ocean. As the shark wreaks havoc on Mississippi River towns and threatens the freshwater system of the country, an embattled local fisherman and his hillbilly crew become destined to kill it.

It comes as no surprise that the trailer for Rhi Entertainment's Roadkill would quickly pop up online once Syfy announced the Stephen Rea-starring monster movie's April 23rd premiere date. More surprising is that this Syfy movie about hit & run, gypsy curses, and a giant bird of prey doesn't look too shabby.
Kate and her brother, Joel, have gathered their five best friends for a scenic Rv road trip to their high school reunion. But their cross-country adventure is about to take an unexpected turn for the worst when an ancient curse takes wing by way of a massive creature. It’s called the Simuroc, and this gigantic bird of prey has found the perfect, helpless quarry in Kate and company. Stranded in the backwoods of the predator’s territory, there’s little chance for escape.
I really don't think the title Roadkill suits a movie with a premise like that.

I don't really love the idea of camping, so it should come as no surprise that I am not usually a big fan of "survivalist" horror films. Primal however, is what people are calling a return to "Ozploitation". The majestic environment of the Australian Outback is apparently a frequent place where people get killed. Who knew? With this apparent return to Ozploitation, Primal is often quoted as being a film in the same vein as something like Cabin Fever, but what it ends up being is more or less just kind of a shrug, and also sometimes a laugh.

Screening over Christmas this year will be the new feature-length adaptation by Simon Nye of Richmal Crompton's much-loved mischievous hero Just William. Weaving together a selection of Richmal Crompton's timeless short stories and setting them in the Fifties, Simon has written scripts faithful to her precise portrait of British family life.
The adventures follow William's first encounter with the frilly-yet-formidable Violet Elizabeth Bott; a spot of parrot kidnapping for William's animal lecture; an elaborate plan to dispose of a bad school report; a spot of blackmail; and William's attempt to impress tomboy Dorinda (played by Lottie Bell) with a bit of Shakespeare.
Joining freshly-shorn Outnumbered star Daniel Roche in the title role, are Isabella Blake Thomas as Violet and Robert Foster as Henry. Completing the Outlaws gang are:

Starring: Colin Ferguson, Yancy Butler, Kacey Barnfield, Michael Ironside.
When local wildlife is brutally mauled and campers are reduced to carcasses, biologist Nathan Bickerman (Colin Ferguson) knows a voracious predator is on the loose.
So does a feisty female hunting guide (Yancy Butler) out for her next trophy. As the body count rises, the local sheriff (Michael Ironside) tries to keep things quiet and keep the tourist coming. But when the horrifying, hulking truth emerges, will anyone be able to stop these cold blooded killers before they claim their next victim?
As is to be expected by a SyFy TV movie, Lake Placid 3 is nothing to write home about. It is however acceptable to be used for entertainment purposes, and would be a fantastic way for you and your friends to have a hilarious good night, when you’re making fun of almost everything about it.

As is to be expected by a SyFy TV movie, Lake Placid 3 is nothing to write home about. It is however acceptable to be used for entertainment purposes, and would be a fantastic way for you and your friends to have a hilarious good night, when you’re making fun of almost everything about it.

Hold on a second, let me get this straight. There was a Lake Placid 2?!
11 years after they first tore up the box-office, the mutant crocodiles are returning for the second sequel to 1999′s entertaining Lake Placid.
“Get ready for a living, feeding nightmare when a swarm of gigantic crocodiles terrorizes a secluded country lake. When local wildlife is brutally mauled and campers are reduced to carcasses, biologist Nathan Bickerman (Colin Ferguson) knows a voracious predator is on the loose. So does a feisty female hunting guide (Yancy Butler) out for her next trophy. As the body count rises, the local sheriff tries to keep things quiet and keep the tourists coming. But when the horrifying, hulking truth emerges, can anyone stop these cold blooded killers before they claim their next victim? Lake Placid 3 is pulse pounding, adrenaline pumping, pure horror film fun.”

A look at what's new on DVD today:
"Back to the Future: 25th Anniversary Trilogy"
Directed by Robert Zemeckis
Released by Universal Home Entertainment
Yes, we're finally getting the footage of the original Marty McFly, Eric Stoltz, for the first time, but for many simply having the hi-def version of Robert Zemeckis' time-travel franchise will be good enough. Commentaries, deleted scenes, a full-length documentary and much, much more come on this new set of the trilogy.
"Alien Anthology"
Directed by Ridley Scott, James Cameron, David Fincher, Jean-Pierre Jeunet
Released by Fox Home Entertainment
While not as much of an upgrade over its previous DVD release as "Back to the Future," the Blu-ray update of the four "Alien" films worth owning now boasts isolated scores for each film, all of Ridley Scott's sketches for the first "Alien," the uncut documentary of David Fincher's ill-fated "Alien 3" as...

You know we are nearing the end of October when the pace of horror DVD title releases starts slowing down. I guess the powers that be banked on everyone buying horror DVDs several weeks before Halloween. Is that true? Are you folks doing just that, or are you only now starting your Halloween viewing party planning?
Anyway, while this week's bounty includes monsters in the water and in the sky, with mostly direct-to-dvd, TV movies and old re-releases, the juggernaut monster is the one in space with a complete set in one neat package.
