| A surprise package.
I half expected the usual, cheap thrills, jumpy moments, and liberties taken with the legacy of Michael Myers, but....

....a total and utter surprise, this was a quality film, one that felt as if it had a level of respect for its original, it respected its roots, but forgot all those that came between, perhaps no bad thing.

Michael Myers the man, he transformed years back into some kind of superhero villain, unable to die, able to die and come back life, here he's treated as just a man, very well done.

The writing is fantastic, I loved the story, and how it played out, if only previous films were this standard. The music was absolutely fantastic, I loved it, the best of the original.

Gripping, well acted, exciting, intriguing. Ranks second after the original. 8/10

Did You Know?

The film bears strong plot & character similarities with fellow popular horror franchise instalment: Scream 4 (2011). Both feature the recurring female protagonist (Laurie Strode, Sidney Prescott) contend with the masked figure of their past targeting their 17 year old female relative (Allyson Strode, Jill Roberts), and their teenage friends. Scream has featured the original 1978 Halloween in their first instalment (Scream 1996), as various references to the Halloween film series. In Halloween H20: 20 years later (1998) Scream 2 (1997) prominently is featured, as well as references to both Scream films of the time.

Allyson Strode: Everyone in my family, like, turns into a nutcase this time of year.
Vicky: I mean, your grandmother is Laurie Strode. She was almost murdered.
Dave: Wasn't it her brother who murdered all those babysitters?
Allyson Strode: No. He was not her brother, that's something that ...

Near the end of the film the two police officers guarding Laurie's house are requesting backup after finding a murdered police man (= the doctor) near the police vehicle, which stopped a short distance from them. After the climax, with Laurie's house now on fire, Laurie, her daughter and her granddaughter hitch a ride on a pick up truck, yet backup is nowhere to be seen.
