Egyptian director Omar El Zohairy, whose absurdist social satire “Feathers” won the Cannes Critics’ Week prize in 2021 and went on to make a major splash, is set to helm “Mammals,” an English-language drama that will be a reflection on Western capitalism and family ties.
El Zohairy’s sophomore film, which will feature still unspecified actors from different countries, is being co-written by the buzzed-about auteur with British Egyptian writer-director Mohamed Adeeb, who wrote the hit Egyptian TV series “Bimbo,” directed by Amr Salama.
“Mammals” takes its cue from events in Adeeb’s life which in turn inspired El Zohairy to draw inspiration from the life of his father, who died in 2016 in the United States, where he was an immigrant living under difficult conditions, he said. In the film, a young man visits his distant father in one of the world’s most lavish resorts. When he arrives there he discovers that,...

“The Late Late Show” will be coming to an end with James Corden’s exit at the end of the show’s 2023 season. Next in line to replace the coveted time slot, however, is a reboot of the series “@Midnight”.
A source tells Et, “CBS is eyeing ‘@Midnight’ to replace ‘The Late Late Show’. They’re ready for something different. Hosted late night talk shows are expensive to produce.” CBS, meanwhile, is not commenting on the potential new late-night lineup.
“@Midnight” ran 600 episodes on Comedy Central between 2013 and 2017. Its new iteration is said to have Stephen Colbert serving as executive producer, per a report from Deadline, alongside Funny or Die, the company behind the original series on Comedy Central.
The move gives “The Late Show” host another hour of late-night that he is involved in, in addition to also executive producing Comedy Central series “Tooning Out The News” and “Hell of a Week with Charlamagne Tha God...

CBS is dipping back into the recent past to fill the late night slot that’s soon to open up when its The Late Late Show With James Corden departs.
The network is set to replace the long-running Late Late Show franchise with a reboot of comedic panel game show @midnight, sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter. Stephen Colbert, who hosts The Late Show for the network, is on board as executive producer of the revived program that aired 600 episodes on Comedy Central before signing off in August 2017.
Reps for CBS declined to comment.
@midnight, which launched in October 2013, aired Mondays through Thursdays on the basic-cable network, with host Chris Hardwick asking internet-themed questions to three comedian guests. Former “Daily Show” host Trevor Noah crashed “The Late Late Show” on Thursday to help James Corden with a segment entitled “Side Effects Only.”
“If only there was someone who could help me with this bit. I sort of need somebody who has experience reading a teleprompter, someone who has experience sitting behind a desk,” Corden said before being interrupted by Noah
Following the applause, Corden asked Noah how it feels to be sitting behind a desk again, to which he replied, deadpan: “Stifling.”

James Corden says he’s actually performing when hosting The Late Late Show.
The British actor and comedian has helmed CBS’s late-night show for seven years, beginning in 2015. In April 2022, he announced he was quitting the talk series in spring 2023, once he has reached 1,250 episodes.
In a new interview with NBC10 Boston’s Hub Today, Corden was asked what the pivot from acting to hosting was like for him.
“I guess I see it all as a performance, really,” the 44-year-old shared. “I see it all as a character that I’m sort of playing.”
While gesturing and speaking in his famously animated late-night tone, Corden said: “Like, it would be odd if I got home and opened the fridge and was like, ‘Look who’s here tonight! Stick around, we’ll be right back!’”
Although he generally sees acting and presenting to be similar, he explained that “ultimately...

James Corden has revealed that he nearly played Brendan Fraser’s lead role in The Whale.
The film, which has been generating a huge amount of Oscars buzz, stars Fraser as a 42-stone English teacher desperately trying to reconnect with his teenage daughter before it is too late.
The Whale has marked a big comeback for Fraser, who has been mostly out of the limelight for the last decade, after name-making roles in The Mummy trilogy and Crash.
It has now emerged that Corden was almost the movie’s leading man.
Corden told Deadline reporter Pete Hammond, before a Q&a for his new show Mammals: “I was going to play that part, and Tom Ford was going to direct.”
The film went on to be directed by Darren Aronofsky, and Corden reportedly said that Ford ultimately didn’t take the reins as he had wanted more complete control of the project.

James Corden has opened up about his decision to leave The Late Late Show after eight years.
In April, the British actor announced that he was stepping down from hosting the US late night show in 2023.

James Corden is starting the new year with some blunt honesty, explaining exactly why he’s leaving his position as host of “The Late Late Show” this year. According to the host, it “became a very easy decision” in the end.
During an appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show” Monday, Corden explained that leaving the show had nothing to do with not enjoying it, but everything to do with his family and home life. And though he said “it’s not easy, in any way” to hang it up, he admitted that, in the end, the decision came fairly easily.
“The truth is, it became a very easy decision because I always knew it was an adventure, and I never ever considered it to be the final destination,” Corden said.

Few movies released in 2022 are as defined by a single actor as “The Whale.” Darren Aronofsky’s adaptation of Samuel D. Hunter’s play of the same name has earned mixed reviews, but the Brendan Fraser’s performance as a 600-pound man has received overwhelming praise.
In her IndieWire review of the film, Leila Latif wrote that: “without Brendan Fraser’s innate charm and ability to project gentle sadness through the slightest flicker of his huge blue eyes, ‘The Whale’ wouldn’t have that much else going for it. Faultless performances from Morton and Chau illuminate complicated relationships with Charlie, a man at once lovable, frustrating, and dishonest.”
She continued: “For Fraser, ‘The Whale’ is a confident leap forward into the movie-star status that he rightfully deserves. For the normally more muted Venice audience who typically scramble for the exit the moment the film ends, just the sight of Fraser...

Regardless of the immense talent of Brendan Fraser and his incredibly human performance on display, Darren Aronofsky's adaptation of Samuel D. Hunter's fatphobic stage play, "The Whale" is a difficult movie to champion. Yes, we all want Fraser to succeed. Yes, it's a delight to see Sadie Sink showcase her skills outside of "Stranger Things" and Taylor Swift's short films. But to ignore the deeply problematic ways in which fatness is presented on screen in "The Whale" is to do a disservice to the very real people who navigate the world in fat bodies every single day.
I make no qualms about how much I detest Hunter's stage play, and still cannot fathom why anyone thought this film was a good idea. Alas, we live in a fatphobic society where fat folks are viewed as not only acceptable targets for ridicule, hatred, or pity — it's encouraged to...

James Corden has revealed that he auditioned to play hobbit Samwise Gamgee in the Lord of the Rings film series from director Peter Jackson.

Mel B has named James Corden as “the biggest d***head celebrity” she’s ever met, claiming he’s “not very nice”.
The singer made the claim during an appearance on Channel 4 entertainment series The Big Narstie Show.
She also jokingly called out one of her Spice Girls bandmates, much to the surprise of the presenters.
When co-host Mo Gilligan asked her: “Who is the biggest d***head celebrity you’ve ever met?”, she did not hold back with her response.

You know that moment on Christmas Day when your well-intentioned post-dinner game of Monopoly has been derailed by one family member, slightly slurring their words, accusing the rest of you of cheating? The Traitors, BBC One’s new reality competition series hosted by Claudia Winkleman, is the TV version of that. Deception, lying and trickery are key to this new format, a high-budget reinvention of party games like Werewolf or Mafia, mixed with the grand castle setting of Cluedo.
As with any new board game, the show opens with a complicated set of rules. A group of 22 complete strangers from across the UK have been brought together to compete for a cash prize of “up to £120,000” (whatever that means). But among them will lurk the “traitors”, contestants who every night will attempt to “murder” members of the group without being caught. If any traitors remain in the game at the end,...

Sometimes a piece of culture becomes so deeply ingrained in the collective consciousness, that we forget how weird the core concept is. An animate sponge, for example, who wears nothing but a tiny, square shirt and trouser combo, or a felt frog who’s shacking up with a felt pig. The Addams Family is rather like that. A camp, gothic romp, populated with a series of characters who have become icons of eccentricity. Morticia, Gomez, Uncle Fester, Thing, Lurch: all instantly recognisable weirdos. But perhaps nobody from that famous family has broken out quite like troubled child Wednesday, who lends her name to the title of Netflix’s new, Gen Z-baiting, prequel.
Wednesday sees the Addams’s daughter, played here by Jenna Ortega (the latest star off the Disney conveyor belt), heading to Nevermore Academy, her parents’ alma mater and a special school for “outcasts” (she’s just been expelled...

James Corden is better known in the U.S. as a talk show host rather than an actor, but his resume is packed with lead and supporting roles in fictional movies and shows. The star has now teamed up with renowned British playwright Jez Butterworth for his latest project, the Prime Video series Mammals.
In the fantasy dark comedy, Coden plays Jamie, a chef who finds out his wife has been having an affair. In a surprise twist, his life drifts into a magical world. It’s a unique plot, but for those who wish to dive into similar shows, there are a few series to check out.

Colin Morgan will return to the small screen with Amazon Prime's Mammals, opposite James Corden and Sally Hawkins. In a career spanning film, television, and theater, Morgan has played numerous roles, but none more beloved than Merlin in the BBC show of the same name.
Merlin remains popular today, with fans keeping the show very much alive on every corner of the internet. However, memes are a fan-favorite option to celebrate the clumsy, sassy, and powerful Merlin. These memes are funny and clever, but above all, they are a perfect summarization of who Merlin is as a character.

Merlin and Arthur's dynamic is hilarious. They tease each other mercilessly and are constantly on each other's nerves. Arthur doesn't even mind when Merlin insults him, nor does anyone else around them; they know Merlin as a place of honor in Arthur's life,...

In some inescapable ways, James Corden and “Mammals” are made for each other. As a six-episode series, the new Prime Video show is the perfect length for someone taking the offramp from the late night TV freeway, as Corden will do when he exits “The Late Late Show” sometime next year. From a performance standpoint, this Jez Butterworth-written half-hour dramedy gives Corden the chance to step outside the Stage-to-Screen Adaptation Industrial Complex and originate a role of his own.
On paper, even the premise seems perfect for someone looking to move on from an eight-and-a-half year stint playing virality-optimized affability. Here, Corden is Jamie, an acclaimed chef trying to juggle a cratering marriage, a soon-to-open restaurant, and an amateur investigation into the identity of the man who may have thrown a wrench in both. This is not a show built on pleasant, carefree vibes. It’s a sprinkling of...

Check out the full interview below.
TV Fanatic: Could you speak a bit about how you got involved with Mammals?
Melia Kreiling: I was looking for something different from what I've done before, and my agent sent me this project, and he said I could audition for it even though it was primarily for a French accent girl.
We weren't sure they would even consider me, but I sent in an audition and completely fell in love with the character. Just from the three scenes I had available, I could tell Jez Butterworth's writing is so spectacular.

Watching the new Amazon Prime series Mammals, I was reminded of an unsettling – and maybe even apocryphal – Margaret Atwood anecdote. When the author of The Handmaid’s Tale asked a male friend why men fear women, she was told that men are afraid that women will laugh at them. When she asked women what they feared in men, they told her they were afraid of being killed.
In Jez Butterworth’s surreal and funny miniseries on love and infidelity, James Corden – in an unfortunate callback to his recent tabloid troubles with a New York City brasserie – plays Jamie, an ambitious London chef about to open his dream restaurant. He and his wife, Amandine (Melia Kreiling), are on a babymoon to Cornwall when a series of notable events occur almost at once: the cottage next door is revealed to be occupied by Tom Jones (the real one), a majestic whale breaches the blue-black sea,...

So maybe this isn’t exactly the ideal moment to be releasing a TV series in which James Corden plays a seemingly nice guy who turns out to be prone to impatience and irritation. That the series, Amazon’s Mammals, also has a restaurant backdrop is a particularly poisonous version of serendipity.
It muddles one’s ability to make an assessment as ostensibly non-controversial as saying that Corden is actually really good in Mammals. I mean, before he was doing karaoke with celebrities in a trailer-pulled car or publicly smooching disgraced former White House press secretaries, Corden was a Tony-winning actor. I can still easily imagine people complaining that Corden’s performance in Mammals is annoying, or they can’t view his character as anything other than annoying, as if that’s not the intended nature of the character he’s playing.

The human preoccupation with the complexities of marriage will probably never fade. In fact, our preoccupation with the complexities of romantic entanglements, in general, will probably always be at the forefront of the emotional questions we ask ourselves. But marriage, being a sort of binding contract, fascinates us on a different level. The idea of belonging to someone else completely, and more still, trusting them implicitly as you give yourself over to them, is a beautiful one, and it is something that keeps people entering the arrangement of marriage every single day—even though we know, it takes very little to bring a house of love cards down.

What does it mean to be in a monogamous relationship? In Jez Butterworth’s Mammals, a silly yet strange dramedy starring James Corden and Sally Hawkins, it is the constraint, or at least the perception of such, from our more base desires. In this case, desire doesn’t solely refer to sex; it encompasses a life defined by excitement and independence that the characters have struggled to realize in their monogamous lives. It creates a disconnect for the characters as they all harbor secrets that they hold more closely than anything though rarely articulate. As a result, they end up finding their lives upended in ways both humorous and haunting that make for an intriguing if uneven experience over the series' six short episodes.

Prime Video is all set to premiere its much-awaited UK Original series ‘Mammals’ worldwide on November 11. The dark comedy-drama series stars comic-actor James Corden in the lead. He plays Jamie, a chef, who finds out that his wife Amandine (Melia Kreiling) is cheating on him. While fans are excited to see him in a serious role after ‘The Wrong Mans’, speculations of his character being inspired by real-life chef Jamie Oliver have become the talk of the town.
However, recently James Corden squashed all comparisons and said that Jamie Oliver is not the inspiration for the series. “Jamie Oliver was absolutely not the inspiration for Mammals,” Corden remarked. The British chef is popular for riding motorized wheels, and the series shows Corden riding a scooter. Addressing parallels between the two, Corden affirmed, “Jamie Oliver was on a moped.”

"Monogamy, it's a beautiful idea but… you have to admit it's pretty hard – right?" Amazon has debuted a main official trailer for an intriguing new streaming series titled Mammals, created by James Richardson, and written by famous screenwriter Jez Butterworth. In this darkly comedic drama series, revelations and secrets come to light and the complexity of modern marriage and fidelity are exposed. In a world of eight billion, what happens after we've found 'the one'? Can we stay true to the promises we strive to keep when, after all, aren't we all just mammals? "The magic of monogamy just might be an illusion in modern marriages." The series features James Corden, with Sally Hawkins, Meila Kreiling, Colin Morgan, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, and Samuel Anderson. There's something off about these two trailers - I can't even tell what is going on, what the main thread is, other than "Hey relationships are hard!

How can Amazon Prime Video followup the first season finale of its biggest series ever in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power? The answer lies in its list of new releases for November 2022.
Understandably, Prime Video is probably pretty tired and won’t be opting for any more Middle-earth spectacle for awhile. In its place, however, are a couple of still intriguing Amazon Original series. British Western drama series The English is set to arrive on Nov. 11 to both Prime Video and BBC Two. Emily Blunt stars as a woman who heads to the American West in 1890 looking for revenge on the man she sees as responsible for the death of her son. Cool! Speaking of the English, the James Corden-starring Mammals also premieres on Nov. 11.

Sally Hawkins has said she would be “too embarrassed” to keep speaking in her characters’ accents off-set.
The British actor, 46, has portrayed characters with many different accents: she’s played American in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine, Canadian in the folk artist biopic Maudie, and Russian in the Christmas movie All is Bright, to name a few.
In a new interview with The Observer, she said she puts on accents “like a prop”.

The ongoing saga of James Corden and the restaurant staff he was reportedly rude to continued Friday with the owner of the New York City restaurant Balthazar could eat free there for life if he apologizes to two servers.
To recap: Corden was banned from the location after owner Keith McNally called him a “tiny cretin of a man” who was also “the most abusive customer to my Balthazar servers since the restaurant opened 25 years ago.” McNally said that the comedian and host was banned for life from any of his restaurants.
While Corden didn’t publicly respond, the internet was abuzz with similarly rude stories about the “Late Late Show” host and “Cats” costar, including one involving his wife, his baby and an airplane.
But it seemed as though the brouhaha had cooled down. Earlier this week McNally, again on Instagram, claimed that Corden apologized and the ban had been lifted.
