Egyptian director Omar El Zohairy, whose absurdist social satire “Feathers” won the Cannes Critics’ Week prize in 2021 and went on to make a major splash, is set to helm “Mammals,” an English-language drama that will be a reflection on Western capitalism and family ties.

El Zohairy’s sophomore film, which will feature still unspecified actors from different countries, is being co-written by the buzzed-about auteur with British Egyptian writer-director Mohamed Adeeb, who wrote the hit Egyptian TV series “Bimbo,” directed by Amr Salama.

“Mammals” takes its cue from events in Adeeb’s life which in turn inspired El Zohairy to draw inspiration from the life of his father, who died in 2016 in the United States, where he was an immigrant living under difficult conditions, he said. James Corden is coming to the end of his run as host of The Late Late Show.

The 44-year-old actor and comedian announced he was exiting the show last year, explaining he “always knew it was an adventure and I never ever considered it to be the final destination”.

Now, with Corden’s last show fast approaching, here’s a rundown of everything to expect, from the final guests to when it airs and what might be next for the Brit.

When is Corden’s final show?

After an eight-year run of hosting the CBS talk show, Corden’s last episode will premiere on Thursday 27 April at 12:37am Est.

Before he bids his final farewell, a one-hour Carpool Karaoke special will air at 10pm Est.

Corden has yet to reveal who his last Carpool Karaoke guest will be, but K-pop group Blackpink have been announced as one of the final three segments.

“The Late Late Show With James Corden” might be making its final curtain call on CBS this spring, but CBS Studios is continuing its partnership with Fulwell 73, the production company behind the late-night show and much more.

Fulwell 73 has re-upped its first-look development deal with CBS Studios for three more years, Variety has learned.

A person familiar with the agreement says the renewal deal began last fall. Under the pact, Fulwell 73 will continue to develop scripted, alternative and digital projects for the studio across broadcast, cable, streaming and digital platforms.

Fulwell 73 first inked a deal with CBS Studios in 2016. The company has been in business with CBS since 2015 when Corden began hosting “The Late Late Show,” which became a mega success for the company that has been defined by countless viral moments during its run.

The BBC Studios Natural History Unit has commissioned three series for BBC One, BBC Two and iPlayer. “Mammals” (6 x 60’), coproduced by France Televisions, Zdf and BBC America, offers insights into the most widespread animal group in the world.

“Big Little Journeys” (3 x 60’), coproduced by PBS, follows the real-life adventures of six tiny animals as they voyage into the unknown. “Wild Scandinavia” (3 x 60’), coproduced by PBS and Sveriges Television, and narrated by actor Rebecca Ferguson (“Dune”), celebrates the wildlife, landscapes and culture of the furthest northern reaches of Europe.

BBC Studios is handling international distribution and will present the series to international customers at BBC Studios Showcase taking place on Feb. 27 and 28.

Meanwhile, the BBC has also commissioned two one-off entertainment shows to celebrate the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. “The Greatest Show on Earth” (working title), produced by Little Gem, will celebrate 25 years since the U.K. last hosted the contest,...

“The Late Late Show” will be coming to an end with James Corden’s exit at the end of the show’s 2023 season. Next in line to replace the coveted time slot, however, is a reboot of the series “@Midnight”.

A source tells Et, “CBS is eyeing ‘@Midnight’ to replace ‘The Late Late Show’. They’re ready for something different. Hosted late night talk shows are expensive to produce.” CBS, meanwhile, is not commenting on the potential new late-night lineup.

“@Midnight” ran 600 episodes on Comedy Central between 2013 and 2017. Its new iteration is said to have Stephen Colbert serving as executive producer, per a report from Deadline, alongside Funny or Die, the company behind the original series on Comedy Central.

CBS is dipping back into the recent past to fill the late night slot that’s soon to open up when its The Late Late Show With James Corden departs.

The network is set to replace the long-running Late Late Show franchise with a reboot of comedic panel game show @midnight, sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter. Stephen Colbert, who hosts The Late Show for the network, is on board as executive producer of the revived program that aired 600 episodes on Comedy Central before signing off in August 2017.

Reps for CBS declined to comment.

@midnight, which launched in October 2013, aired Mondays through Thursdays on the basic-cable network, with host Chris Hardwick asking internet-themed questions to three comedian guests. James Corden says he’s actually performing when hosting The Late Late Show.

The British actor and comedian has helmed CBS’s late-night show for seven years, beginning in 2015. In April 2022, he announced he was quitting the talk series in spring 2023, once he has reached 1,250 episodes.

In a new interview with NBC10 Boston’s Hub Today, Corden was asked what the pivot from acting to hosting was like for him.

“I guess I see it all as a performance, really,” the 44-year-old shared. “I see it all as a character that I’m sort of playing.”

While gesturing and speaking in his famously animated late-night tone, Corden said: “Like, it would be odd if I got home and opened the fridge and was like, ‘Look who’s here tonight! Stick around, we’ll be right back!’”

James Corden has revealed that he nearly played Brendan Fraser’s lead role in The Whale.

The film, which has been generating a huge amount of Oscars buzz, stars Fraser as a 42-stone English teacher desperately trying to reconnect with his teenage daughter before it is too late.

The Whale has marked a big comeback for Fraser, who has been mostly out of the limelight for the last decade, after name-making roles in The Mummy trilogy and Crash.

It has now emerged that Corden was almost the movie’s leading man.

Corden told Deadline reporter Pete Hammond, before a Q&a for his new show Mammals: “I was going to play that part, and Tom Ford was going to direct.”

The film went on to be directed by Darren Aronofsky, and Corden reportedly said that Ford ultimately didn’t take the reins as he had wanted more complete control of the project.

James Corden has revealed that he auditioned to play hobbit Samwise Gamgee in the Lord of the Rings film series from director Peter Jackson.

Melia Kreiling: I was looking for something different from what I've done before, and my agent sent me this project, and he said I could audition for it even though it was primarily for a French accent girl.

So maybe this isn’t exactly the ideal moment to be releasing a TV series in which James Corden plays a seemingly nice guy who turns out to be prone to impatience and irritation. That the series, Amazon’s Mammals, also has a restaurant backdrop is a particularly poisonous version of serendipity.

It muddles one’s ability to make an assessment as ostensibly non-controversial as saying that Corden is actually really good in Mammals. I mean, before he was doing karaoke with celebrities in a trailer-pulled car or publicly smooching disgraced former White House press secretaries, Corden was a Tony-winning actor. I can still easily imagine people complaining that Corden’s performance in Mammals is annoying, or they can’t view his character as anything other than annoying, as if that’s not the intended nature of the character he’s playing.

What does it mean to be in a monogamous relationship? In Jez Butterworth’s Mammals, a silly yet strange dramedy starring James Corden and Sally Hawkins, it is the constraint, or at least the perception of such, from our more base desires. In this case, desire doesn’t solely refer to sex; it encompasses a life defined by excitement and independence that the characters have struggled to realize in their monogamous lives. It creates a disconnect for the characters as they all harbor secrets that they hold more closely than anything though rarely articulate. Mammals follows the story of Jamie (Corden), a chef whose world implodes when he discovers shocking secrets about his pregnant wife, Amandine (Melia Kreiling). Sally Hawkins has said she would be “too embarrassed” to keep speaking in her characters’ accents off-set.

The British actor, 46, has portrayed characters with many different accents: she’s played American in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine, Canadian in the folk artist biopic Maudie, and Russian in the Christmas movie All is Bright, to name a few.

In a new interview with The Observer, she said she puts on accents “like a prop”.

“Some people will be in accent even at home,” she said. “I can’t do that. I’d be too embarrassed.”

Hawkins did admit that she often becomes so wrapped up in her characters’ inner lives that there is “an overlap of worlds”, saying: “I think people worry too much about how deeply I go into it [on set]. I’m always surprised when people come up to me and ask, ‘Are you all right?’ I say, ‘Yeah, I was concentrating.

To recap: Corden was banned from the location after owner Keith McNally called him a “tiny cretin of a man” who was also “the most abusive customer to my Balthazar servers since the restaurant opened 25 years ago.” McNally said that the comedian and host was banned for life from any of his restaurants.

While Corden didn’t publicly respond, the internet was abuzz with similarly rude stories about the “Late Late Show” host and “Cats” costar, including one involving his wife, his baby and an airplane.

But it seemed as though the brouhaha had cooled down. Earlier this week McNally, again on Instagram, claimed that Corden apologized and the ban had been lifted.
