The hot-headed young D'Artagnan along with three former legendary but now down on their luck Musketeers must unite and defeat a beautiful double agent and her villainous employer from seizing the French throne and engulfing Europe in war.
Playing Rochefort, Mads Mikkelsen in this movie wears an eye-patch over the very same left eye that his Le Chiffre character wept blood in Casino Royale (2006). It's also over the eye Mikkelsen missed in Valhalla Rising (2009) when playing the viking warrior/spirit known as One-Eye.
King Louis XIII of France:
What is that thing called, anyway Richelieu?
Richelieu: An... airship, your Majesty?
King Louis XIII of France: Why don't I have one of those?
Richelieu: An oversight on our part.
King Louis XIII of France: Right,
King Louis XIII of France: right.
King Louis XIII of France: Well, build me one.
In the ball scene, when the musicians are tuning their instruments, they are using Tourte bows, a style of bow that was not created until the late 1700s, significantly after the movie takes place.
At the end of the movie, the first credits have a dedication,"For Bernd", referencing Bernd Eichinger, who died in January of 2011. He was producer of 4 of the Resident Evil films, also directed by Paul W.S. Anderson.
