“Julia’s Eyes” helmer Guillem Morales is readying 1980s-set psychological thriller “Brother,” with WestEnd Films set to launch sales at the Cannes virtual market later this month.
Morales, one of Spain’s top genre auteurs, is best known for 2010 Spanish horror “Julia’s Eyes” (pictured), which was produced by Guillermo del Toro. The director recently won a BAFTA for his work on the hit BBC dark comedy anthology series “Inside No. 9.”
“Brother” is set in the early 1980s and located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. The pic turns on the depraved Morrow family, which lives off the beaten path and preys on young women whom they kidnap from the side of the highway. There’s unrest within the family, however, as their 19-year-old son Michael Morrow tries to break free from their clutches and escape his past.

One of the Spanish-speaking world’s biggest sales forces, Film Factory Entertainment has swooped on sales rights to thriller “Two” (“Duo”), directed by Mar Targarona and the latest production from top Spanish genre auteur producer Rodar y Rodar.
Producer of two milestone titles of Spain’s genre auteur scene – J.A Bayona’s “The Orphanage” and Guillem Morales’ “Julia’s Eyes,” Targarona has built her own directorial career on suspense thrillers that prove unexpected and unpredictable in tone and resolution, such as 2016’s “Boy Missing” and “The Photographer of Mauthausen” – part true-events inspired record, part edge-of-set entertainment – in particular drawing strong notices. “Two” looks no exception. Its singular premise sees two strangers, a man and a woman in their 30s, wake up in an unknown place, naked and glued to each other by their stomachs. They struggle to understand how and why they got there – becoming increasingly terrified as they discover clues and the truth emerges.

Palme d’Or winning producer Luis Miñarro (“Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives”) is set to direct his fifth feature, ”Impalpable” (a working title), produced by Miñarro’s label, Barcelona-based Eddie Saeta, one of Spain’s most prominent arthouse shingles.
Written by Miñarro, “Impalpable” follows a series of characters who take a bus to an unspecified destination. The situation becomes gradually
stranger as the bus make no stops. Nor can the passengers descend.
“Impalpable”‘s cast will include Naomi Kawase, Geraldine Chaplin and Spain’s Lola Dueñas (“The Sea Inside”) and Francesc Orella (“Julia’s Eyes”), among others.
By chance, though with foresight, ”I first thought of this project before the pandemic. It’s a homage to Luis Buñuel’s ‘The Exterminating Angel,’” Miñarro told Variety. Over three days and two nights, its characters get to know one another, as the audience enters the minds of main characters, unleashing...

You can tell we’re approaching October when more scary content starts to appear on major services, with the latest offering, Spanish psychological horror The Paramedic, having a trailer and batch of images released.
When you see news about a movie with any kind of medical or sickness connotation to its title or central concept, it’s difficult to not immediately jump to the assumption that it’s a cynical attempt to exploit current world circumstances, such as the hatefully abysmal Corona Zombies. Thankfully, The Paramedic is nothing like that, instead being an insidious tale of paranoia and control.
After a road accident during a call-out, the titular first responder Ángel is confined to a wheelchair, his bitterness and reliance on his partner Vane leading him to suspect she’s cheating on him, resulting in him first stalking her movements and communications, then keeping her prisoner in their apartment, in...

It's been a while since last we talked about one of the latest fright flicks from producer Guillermo del Toro, Julia's Eyes (Los ojos de Julia), but lo and behold yet another clip has slipped online. Dig it!
Julia's Eyes is directed by Guillem Morales, who co-write the screenplay along with Oriol Paulo. It is produced by Rodar's Joaquin Padro and Mar Targarona and co-financed by Focus Features Intl. Belen Rueda (The Orphanage) and Lluis Homar (Broken Embraces) are starring in the film, which tells the story of a woman slowly going blind as she investigates the mysterious death of her twin sister.
The film is shot from Julia's Pov, so the scare tactics will include panic attacks as her sight fails. Says [producer] Padro, "The thriller's an excuse to talk about a woman who overcomes her limitations; it's a journey of self-discovery."

"Julia’s Eyes" (Los Ojos de Julia) You know when a filmmaker has transcended his profession and truly become a ‘brand’, when it’s his name that hangs above the title of a film that he probably had minimal involvement in actually making.

Last week the trailer for the latest Spanish terror tale from producer Guillermo del Toro, Julia's Eyes (or Los ojos de Julia), hit online, and now comes the very first bit of poster art.

Now a little over a month into production, the first artwork has just been released from Guillem Morales' Los Ojos De Julia. A Spanish production backed by Focus Features in what looks to be a similar arrangement to how Focus was involved with Park Chan-Wook's Thirst, this one has an automatic leg up in that it is being produced by Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth director Guillermo Del Toro. Because, you know, he's not already busy enough prepping The Hobbit. The story follows a young woman (played by Belen Rueda) dealing with the slow erosion of her sight while investigating the suicide of her blind twin sister. And judging from that image I'm guessing there's something unpleasant behind the sisters' blindness.
