A musician helps a young singer find fame as age and alcoholism send his own career into a downward spiral.
When Jack backs out of the garage, you see the license plate on his car reads "2SAM564." Like GAT and FAN, SAM is a three-letter combination that is not used by the California Department of Motor Vehicles, so prop departments can use those combinations on license plates without fear that they will duplicate and cause confusion with a license plate already in use. "SAM" on other states' prop license plates is short for "sample." An internet search will show that 2SAM564 has been in television shows and other movies, including on Nicolas Cage's car in "Matchstick Men (2003)."
Tell me something, boy. Aren't you tired trying to fill that void? Or do you need more? Ain't it hard keeping it so hardcore?
Jack: Is that me?
Ally: That's you.
Jack: Did you just write that now?
Jack: Pretty good.
When Jack and Ally arrive in their hotel room, Jack drops his key card on the floor as he stumbles into the hallway table. He turns and moves into the next room as Ally goes into the bathroom and shuts the door. When she opens the door, the key card is gone.
The first couple of seconds of the Warner Bros Pictures logo are cut out.
