    Warning: Spoilers
First off why was this lady living in an abandoned camp site out in the woods with her daughter. And what was up with the little market literally in the middle of nowhere. Anyways, apparently this mysterious woman is taking revenge on innocent hikers because she's pissed a drunk hunter accidentally shot her daughter. Not totally far fetched but it would of been better if the killer was just some psychotic hermit living out in the woods. And that ending was just terrible. After she gets her gun taken away she commits suicide by falling backwards off a cliff. What the hell was that about? Lol. The movie wasn't totally terrible. It starts out ok and the film quality was good but I'm sure this movie is going to get trashed by other critics. It's going to be funny reading some of the other reviews.
  • No character development.

    No connections between flashbacks.

    No drama.

    Simply stupid ending.
  • A new German survival thriller on Netflix. The premise is simple: 5 guys on a trip in the jungle got hunted down by a mysterious hunter.

Most of the runtime was these guys running in the woods. The suspense relied on the mystery of the hunter, who was deadly and familiar with the territory. There were some scenes that worked, but for a lot of it I was bored because of how dragged the pacing was. However, I still want to see the justification for all of this.

And this is where the movie became just straight up stupid and nonsensical. In short, nothing paid off. First, there's flashbacks throughout the movie about the main guy. These flashbacks served almost no purpose and didn't change my perceptions on these characters much. They all fell into certain types of characters.

Second, and the most important of all, the reason that they got hunted was bafflingly unjustified that just pissed me off at the end. The final scene was just as random and gave more questions than answers.

Overall, it's almost like this movie exists to waste people's time. I just lost an hour and a half of sleep for this random bs thriller with almost no thrill. 3/10.

An absolute waste of time. It started off decent when you had no idea who or where the shooter was but then both the characters and plot became just idiotic. All the main characters are absurdly paper thin with all but one of them being extremely annoying and selfish. The shooter has all but 2 lines and a stagnant facial expression to charaterize her and it unsurprisingly did not work. It is extremely hard to understand or empathize with her because the reason for her hunting the main characters makes no sense and is absurdly unjustified, no matter how stupid or selfish these guys are.

The subplot between two of the characters is straight out of a mediocre soap opera and has zero place in this thriller. The final act is unsatisfying and ends abruptly, not to mention the huge leap of logic in the final "fight" where a fully grown man actually struggles to wrestle a gun from this average build woman. This movie is very predictable and straightforward with almost no twists which it DESPERATELY needed to keep you awake from this boredom of watching guys walk around in ugly grey woods and waiting for something to happen. What kind of thriller movie has barely any thrills?!

This is just another L on Netflix's loooooong lists of disappointments. It is clear they focus more on the quantity of their selection than the actual quality of their content.
  • Slow, no plot, shallow characters, fast forwarded it from a point on. Complete waste of time.

Some people in the woods. Something bad happens. They're in peril and don't know why. A few shocks. Paper-thin characters yelling at each other. You've seen this before. The reason behind "the "hunt" is told in the most ridiculous manner. Late in the game, there is a development between two characters that doesn't really get resolved due to what I thought was an abrupt ending. Nice-looking quality to the movie, but you're much better off sticking with THE RITUAL!

    Warning: Spoilers
Back when I was really young, I remember watching movies like Deliverance and Southern Comfort. I also can't forget being terrified. And so, as I began watching this movie I had high hopes. Of course I wasn't expecting anything comparable but if done right it's hard to go wrong.

The start was fine. The setting was fine. The film didn't look cheap which is huge. But these men never impressed me as being as fearful as they should have been. Not even close. The Asian guy who was afraid of his own shadow should have been pissing himself but all he seemed to do was whimper while continuing to wear his bright orange hat when there's a sniper taking shots at them. There's five dudes and one shooter but no one thinks to separate and break out in five different directions. Instead, they run a ways always seeming to stop to bicker like little girls in order to, apparently, let the shooter catch up. This is a necessity because she's in no hurry reminding me of bad 80s horror where the killer is never running but still always there. Meanwhile, the lunatic is a hot chick seeking revenge on anyone and everyone - this includes a clueless but amused teen working behind a desk in a "hut" out in the middle of nowhere with no phone service, and surprised that she might actually have some customers when these dudes waltz in asking to use the phone.

We also have a killer who is very strong, can wrestle men, and has the ability to drag dead bodies into a cave from miles away. Yup, it's like that.

As far as the twist, I knew it immediately. Roman (David Kross) was much too happy and trusting while his girlfriend seemed too perfect. That combination never ends well.

    Rating: Blah.
  • Instead re-watch a movie that you like.

This has to be one of the worst movies I have watched.

Please, do not waste your time. There are many films out there better than this one.
  • Warning: Spoilers
I'd cut some slack if the writer was a female and wanted to voice her feminist views, but to have writer and director Thomas Sieben write such nonsense where five spry young and athletic guys couldn't overtake one girl, is literally cringeworthy absurdity. Where was any of his logic and reasoning in writing this nonsense? Or at least give her an automatic weapon, not a single-shot rifle that takes time to re-chamber. If he was trying to be unique by having a girl chasing guys, instead of the opposite, he failed. I'd rather have seen a cliched version than this nonsense.

What Sieben did get right, was decent directing, amazing cinematography, beautiful landscapes, and a fitting score. The 87 min runtime was just right with the decent pacing, that you'll have no problem feeling the tension and suspense. Even the casting and performances were excellent. So to the brainless wannabe critics on here giving this film a 1 or 2 out of 10, y'all need to learn that there are other numbers between the one and the ten, and should learn how the rating system works. The ONLY time a film deserves a 1, and I'll be the first one to give it, is when the filmmakers post ridiculous and obvious bogus or paid 10/10's; not the case here. To me, this was a well done international low budget indie film from a novice filmmaker, and aside from the story's poor core concept, everything else was impressive. So it's a well deserved 6/10 from me.
  • And your thought would be something along the lines of: "Why did I waste my time with this?" or "How does Netflix greenlight something as bad as this?" or even "How could you make a movie even more pointless than this?".

These are all very valid questions, indeed. This film has very little to offer, most of it being utter disappointment and boredom. Add in stupid characters who are as flat as the writer's brain is smooth and pacing that makes a limping grandma seem agile.

Season with some awful camera work and a color palette that seems like they accidentally delivered the ungraded version for even more blandness and sprinkle some stock music with no meaning into this stew of talentlessness to have the complete experience: 87 minutes that you will never get back.

Stay far away from this and watch something good instead. For example, something this is miserably failing at copying: DELIVERANCE.
  • Ok, the story is been there, done that, but I really liked this movie and I completely don't understand all these negative reviews. Maybe Covid has affected people's opinions about liking films... There are a lot of open questions indeedn, but this movie kept me thinking and trying to fill in the blanks and the many questions about the why and what. I really liked the part of Roman as a kind of underdog. The cinematography is very beautiful, the music is top notch. This would have been a great mini-series, with two or three more episodes to explain some loose ends. But all in all, for me, this was a fine German film!
  • This German thriller follows five men hiking in the woods in Germany. They are there as part of Roman's stag do; also present are his brother, Albert and friends Peter, Vincent and Stefan. When they hear a distant gunshot they think little of it. When they return to the car a second shot rings out; this time much closer... Vincent has been hit in the arm. Is it the actions of a very careless hunter or are they being targeted? It soon becomes clear that it is the latter. They flee into the forest and hope to make their way to a road. The shooter has other ideas and soon things are getting deadly. The survivors desperately try to get away but the shooter always seems to catch up with them.

I rather enjoyed this. The plot may not be original but once Vincent gets wounded the tension quickly rises and as the film progresses it only rises further. Like all such films it requires more than a little suspension of disbelief; the shooter keeps finding the men, and they keep spotting the shooter, even though they are in a vast forest. The group inevitably make several illogical choices, and their loud arguing isn't a good idea, but who would be able to behave logically when a marksman is trying to shoot you? There are some flashbacks to previous events; notable involving Roman and his fiancée; these are fairly superfluous and detract from the story somewhat. The acting is pretty solid; it is a pity their characters weren't more likeable. The locations used are great; both in appearance and in creating the feeling that the action is taking place far from possible help. Overall not a must see but I thought it passed an hour and a half fairly well; worth watching if you enjoy the genre.

These comments are based on watching the film in German with English subtitles.
  • There's no new ground here, a bachelor party turns into a slaughter fest, as two brothers, and three friends venture into the wilderness.

I really do like atmosphere and tension as a rule, but this takes it too far, and apart from a few nice scenes, it drags on way too slowly.

The characters are all clichés, we have the family link, the quiet and scared one, the gay one, the cute one, and of course the angry one.

I watched it with friends, and they enjoyed it, I'm afraid I yawned through most of it, just too slow, the major plus point has to be the visuals, it does look very nice, but to reach the end, it's a slog. Worst of all is the embarrassing ending.

Once again I find myself struggling to find a good film on Netflix.

Maybe if it had been condensed down to 60 minutes, it may have worked a little bit better, unfortunately it's too much of a slog, 3/10.

    Theft
I want my time spent watching this rubbish back. Awful plot, idiotic characters, possibly the worse acting I have ever seen. Don't do it to yourself.

This is one of those movies so bad that it's not even good/bad!

The five main characters are so annoying that you are actually hoping the protagonist will bump them off sooner!

In fact the best thing about the film is hoping and waiting for them to get shot!
  • lafebre-8030711 September 2021
Slow burn? Watching it is a slow death. A cat and mouse game that drags on and on and you'll guess the big reveal long before the end, if you make it that far without falling asleep.
  • elolotu11 September 2021
Slow, boring and no logic. Can't imagine everything happened in a single day. The reasons behind the murderer it's simply stupid.
  • Any Person who discovers a worst movie than this one, will get a noble prize.
  • jhr201212 September 2021
I have no idea what these other people watched. It's no where near as bad as many have described.

I wish IMDB could get some consistency in the reviews. Maybe delete the top and bottom 20% of the reviews, as the truth is somewhere in between.

As far as Prey goes, it will keep you entertained. Isn't that what you really want?
  • These characters are complete idiots.

Their decisions are absolute garbage. Until the literal last moment of the film.

I watched to the end to see who lives. None of the characters want their lives anyway. And their drama is unnecessary idiocy while they are being attacked.

Meanwhile, the reason for the hunt is the only plausible part of this film. And the solid acting carries the film.

    Warning: Spoilers
    Pros: 1) Visuals.

    2) Stunning forest scenery 3) Good actors.

    4) Simple story 5) Thanks to Netflix, we can see movies from Germany and other Euro countries which aren't big players in movie Industry like UK. Hope to see more content from European union countries in the future.

Cons: 1) After he killed so many of his friends without any remorse why did he showed mercy to her in the end. It doesn't matter if the women was mentally ill. Should have killed her without showing any remorse.

    Overall worth a watch.

... do people love to hate this film so much?

    Admitted, it's not great.

But it's not dysmally bad, either.

The acting was OK, the musical score pretty good; the plot - well. It's OK.

As for the oft bemoaned behaviours of the guys - I wonder how many genuine Rambos, McGyvers or Arnies in Predator are out there who would have made "all the right choices"? And quite frankly, I found most of them quite relatable, not utterly daft or cringe-worthy ...

As for the mother starting to randomly kill people because some drunk hunters shot her daughter - I personally can't see myself reacting in such a way, but people have done weird things; both in movies and in real life.

Why the f* do you even waste money developing this film. ..

So so so weak and time wasting.

You Netflix should reconsider your choices and position in the future market...

    Warning: Spoilers
The only thing that can be appreciated is the beginning: good location, good start, we are in a pacific location and who can shot you? Impossible... so it's shocking and curios the start but the other part of film is totally NO SENSE, we understand the reason why the female hunter kills ( not really credible but...ok) but the 5 guys are poor characterised and the film don't reserve other twists. At one point we see that the female Hunter can kill them but she let them go...ok... We see this predictable scene where Hunter kill all of them except the survivors at the end...the end have totally no sense, female Hunter commit suicide after fighting with Roman but we don't understand why (HOW? WHY?) and the principal character have some flashback that we understand at the end that they are useless, literally...and his brother? Boh we can't saying anything and the film finish... How is possible to see this bad film on Netflix? Bah.
