The Paris-based company said the move, just months after it opened a London branch headed by Ben Owen, marked “a milestone” in its commitment to contributing to and collaborating with the creative industries in the UK.
“Joining UK Screen Alliance underscores our strategy to align with partners that are genuinely advocating for the betterment of the UK’s VFX industry and its entire ecosystem,” said Laurens Ehrmann, founder and senior VFX supervisor at The Yard.
“Their advocacy and recent successes, particularly in securing a more attractive incentive structure, are perfectly aligned with our vision to expand in markets rich with talent and opportunity. We are looking forward to collaborating with other members to advance the screen sector.”

With any Star Wars project in development, part of the thrill for fans is to imagine how the cast will be filled out. This is particularly true with regard to Shawn Levy's confirmed Star Wars movie. The Academy Award-nominated producer and director has helmed science-fiction such as Arrival and Stranger Things as well as lighter fare in Night at the Museum and Free Guy. Levy is now rumored to be discussing a role in the untitled Star Wars film with another Oscar-nominated creative: Ryan Gosling.
What kind of role might Ryan Gosling play in Star Wars?
Ryan Gosling, who shares the home country of Canada with Levy, is well-known for his range as well. He has three Academy Award nominations to his credit, most recently as the affable and existential Ken in Barbie, but his previous nomination was for his role as the impassioned jazz musician Sebastian in La La Land.

There are many war movies that military experts praise for realism. However, just as many TV shows do an excellent job of touching upon the true cost of war. Conversely, since the realities of war are so intense, there are some series that omit the harsher aspects. The toll war takes on the psyches of the soldiers and, most prominently, how many civilian lives are lost are at the forefront of many of these narratives. By centering on the individual experiences of people paying the everyday price of war, the realities feel more immediate and impossible to ignore.
Many of these series feature the best TV show battle scenes, as the violence of infamous clashes is frequently portrayed on television. However, it's not just the big bombastic moments that make these projects memorable. The quieter, more intimately devastating moments typically hit the hardest in these narratives, as this is more...

House star Peter Jacobson discusses the chances of a House revival. Jacobson played Dr. Chris Taub on the popular medical series, which ran for eight seasons from 2004 to 2012. In addition to Jacobson, House featured a leading cast of Hugh Laurie, Omar Epps, Robert Sean Leonard, Jesse Spencer, Lisa Edelstein, Bobbin Bergstrom, Jennifer Morrison, Olivia Wilde, Kal Penn, and more. The medical series was well-received throughout its run and was nominated for multiple Emmys.
In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Jacobson discussed the prospects of a House revival. The actor stated "it makes sense more now than it did 10 years ago" to do a House revival because of the streaming presence. He thinks a revival would "get just a whole new generation of people who really love that show." The actor believed that the storylines make a revival possible, saying "there's a lot more to tell if they want to tell it.

The premiere of Nutcrackers starring Ben Stiller and Linda Cardellini kicked of the 2024 Toronto Film Festival Thursday night, with several other actors in attendance on the red carpet.
The film centers Stiller’s Mike, a no-nonsense workaholic who takes over caregiving for his orphaned nephews that challenge his straig-laced living style. Working to find them a new home after their parents die in a car accident, Mike is forced to adjust to farm life before he realizes he may find a home with his nephews. This marks Stiller’s first movie role in seven years following 2017’s The Meyerowitz Stories and Brad’s Status. In between those and Nutcrackers, Stiller has spent time directing and producing 2018’s miniseries Escape at Dannemora and Apple’s sci-fi thriller show Severance, which has a second season arriving in January 2025.

House is celebrating its 20th anniversary this fall so what better time to check in on how old the cast of the Fox hit was then and now!
Premiering on Nov. 16, 2004, House centered around Gregory House, an absolute medical genius with a Sherlock Holmes ability to unravel medical mysteries that baffled other doctors. However, thanks to pain from a blood clot in his leg that had him relying on a cane, House was also an arrogant, selfish, cynical jerk insulting everyone around him.
The show became one of Fox's biggest hits of the decade, running eight seasons with Laurie earning two Golden Globes and several Emmy nominations. It also boosted many of its cast to future stardom. So how old were the actors then and now?

21 Laps Entertainment, the production banner founded by Deadpool & Wolverine filmmaker Shawn Levy, and Netflix have teamed up to adapt Never Lie, the best-seller by author Freida McFadden.
Netflix has acquired the rights to the psychological thriller for 21 Laps to develop and produce the adaptation. Levy will produce along with partners Dan Levine and Dan Cohen. The project will fall under the company’s first-look feature deal with the streamer.
Described as being in the tone of Gone Girl, Never Lie follows a newlywed couple on the search for the house of their dreams when they come upon a remote manor that once belonged to a renowned psychiatrist, a woman who vanished four years earlier. Trapped at the estate due to an intense blizzard, the wife happens upon a secret room containing audio tapes of the psychiatrist’s interviews with her patients, discovering one session is with a sociopath who sounds scarily familiar to her.

Mark Ruffalo was the only Og Avengers actor who did not get to lead a movie or series. However, that may not be the case for long. It appears that Hugh Jackman’s Marvel debut paves the way for one of the thrilling action plots in Marvel Comics to be brought to the big screen. The Wolverine first appeared on the last page of The Incredible Hulk #180 and later made a full appearance in edition #181.

Netflix content chief Bela Bajaria will be making a lot of pleasant phone calls today after the streamer landed 107 Emmy nominations across 35 different shows.
It’s not the streamer’s biggest nomination haul — that was 160 in 2020 — but it put it firmly in the lead with FX coming in a surprise second with 93 nominations, higher than HBO and Max.
There were sizeable hauls for British shows Baby Reindeer and The Crown, and Ripley, which it picked up after it had been produced, but Bajaria is most pleased about the diversity of its nominations.
Shows such as All The Light We Cannot See, Blue Eye Samurai, The Gentlemen, The Greatest Night In Pop, Griselda, Love on the Spectrum U.S., 3 Body Problem and The Upshaws were all recognized, highlighting its “breadth” of programming, according to Bajaria.

With fewer eligible series — a consequence of both last year’s strikes and of a general post-Peak TV contraction — it seemed unlikely that the Emmys (the second such ceremony this year!) would provide much in the way of surprises.
Perhaps, though, awards-watchers shouldn’t have counted them out.
Wednesday morning’s nominations announcement featured at least one major contender (Emma Stone in “The Curse”) shut out, and included heartening and unexpected recognition for other stars whose names hadn’t been part of the conversation to this point. (Congratulations to Idris Elba and Matt Berry!)
In all, the Emmy nominations depict an industry in rapid transition — relatively few returning series made the cut. But nowhere was the competition more pitched, and the volume of surprise omissions as high, as in the limited series field. (Read the full list of nominees here.)
Limited series bloodbath, Part 1: In the overall category, no “Masters of the Air,...

It speaks somewhat to the predictability of the Emmys that one of the biggest surprises in this year’s nominations was the fact that a series that set a new record for comedy nominations in a single year (“The Bear”) wasn’t even more dominant than it was – landing a mere 10 acting bids spread through the lead, supporting and guest comedy categories and missing out on that record of 14 for “Succession.” But beyond that, there were some mild surprises and a few somewhat less mild ones, including the semi-dominant performance of the first-year drama “Fallout” and “Reservation Dogs” finally scoring its first comedy series nom in its third and final season.
Here are a few of the others:
SEE2024 Emmy nominations: ‘Shogun’ leads with 25, ‘The Bear’ makes history with 23

Wolverine is here to stay! Like stay, stay, stay. On Tuesday, Disney released a new teaser for Deadpool & Wolverine, sharing a new look at the blonde-haired Lady Deadpool — and making a joke about Wolverine’s return.
The minute-long teaser highlights the film’s jam-packed scenes with Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and shows another not-so-revelatory look at Lady Deadpool, the film’s newest character. It’s unclear who gets to play Lady Deadpool, but some Marvel fans think it could be Blake Lively, Reynolds’ wife, or their good friend Taylor Swift.

Welcome to Emmy Experts Typing, a weekly column in which Gold Derby editors and Experts Joyce Eng and Christopher Rosen discuss the Emmy race — via Slack, of course. This week, less than a week out from nominations, we discuss possible shockers.
Christopher Rosen: Hello, Joyce! We’re back for the final time in Phase 1 before Phase 2 becomes all about how many different ways we can say “Shōgun,” “The Bear” and “Baby Reindeer” are favored to win big in, respectively, the drama, comedy, and limited series categories. I’ll miss these lazy months of informed speculation when I could convince myself that Chloe Guidry and Archie Panjabi are legitimate contenders for Emmy nominations for their striking work on “Under the Bridge.” We made our “final” 2024 Emmy nominations predictions this week and what stood out to me in the aftermath is how little we had in the way of disagreement. It’s like Deadpool & Wolverine is a gift that keeps on giving. After a long time waiting, we finally have an idea of what to expect from the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman-starrer, which will be coming to theatres later this month. However, it looks like the film still has many tricks up its sleeve to surprise the fans.

According to a recent report, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will be coming face to face with Marvel Cinematic Universe’s angry green Avenger – Hulk. While neither the report is confirmed nor do we know if the Hulk in question is Mark Ruffalo, we can all agree that if this happens, Deadpool & Wolverine will go down in history as one of the best MCU films of all time.

Hugh Laurie has never won an Emmy. That seems like an egregious oversight on behalf of TV academy voters, considering the British actor starred as one of the best TV characters of this century in “House.” Still, 10 nominations (we’ll get to those later) and zero wins.
He could finally break that losing streak with Netflix’s “All the Light We Cannot See.” Adapted from Anthony Doerr‘s 2014 novel of the same name, written by Steven Knight, and directed by Shawn Levy, this miniseries depicts the lives of two teenagers during WWII — one a blind French girl and the other a German boy forced to fight for the Nazi regime. Laurie features as Uncle Étienne, a reclusive, agoraphobic WWI veteran suffering from Ptsd. Laurie has always been a classy performer and he again brings a lot of heart, warmth, and intelligence here to this role, as noted by several critics.

In September 2021, Olivia Colman bagged her first career Emmy for “The Crown” despite having failed on her Oscar bid for “The Father” five months earlier. This made her the 16th performer to triumph at the Emmys after going home empty-handed at the same year’s Oscars and the fourth to do so during the 21st century. The release of the 2024 Emmy nominations ballots confirmed that nine of the 16 actors who lost at the latest Oscars ceremony are capable of joining Colman on said list.
Gold Derby’s current Emmy odds indicate that the man and woman with the best hopes of following in Colman’s footsteps are Ryan Gosling and Jodie Foster, who just earned their respective third and fifth Academy Award notices for their supporting turns in “Barbie” and “Nyad.” They are now generally expected to share in the experience of being first-time acting Emmy nominees thanks to his...

Wherever I go, when I tell people that I work as an editor for Gold Derby, they never fail to bring up their latest binge-fest and how obsessed they were with it. “Ripley” occupied that space for several weeks, replaced by “Baby Reindeer,” then “Fellow Travelers.” Before that, I ran into a bunch of “Lessons in Chemistry” fans, and friends who were absolutely obsessed with “Feud: Capote vs. the Swans.” “Fargo: Season 5” and “True Detective: Night Country” also had, and continue to have, legions of followers. And of course, “Shogun” consumed people for a good long while.
The point is that Best Limited Series has grown the past few years into the hottest and most prestigious Emmy category, and that’s especially true in 2024 with the depletion of the Best Drama Series and Best Comedy Series due to the 2023 strikes and the departure of shows like “Succession” and “Ted Lasso.

Songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are on the verge of Egot status… that is, if Emmy voters nominate their song from “Only Murders in the Building” and it winds up winning three months from now.
Pasek and Paul — already Oscar winners for “La La Land” and Tony and Grammy winners for “Dear Evan Hansen” — could finally manage that feat with the witty comic patter song “Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?,” sung by Steve Martin and co-written with fellow Tony and Grammy winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman for the third season of the Hulu comedy-drama.
They are among the many prominent songwriters who have entered songs in this year’s Emmy competition. Voting began Thursday, with approximately 550 members of the Television Academy music peer group eligible to vote in seven music categories. Voting ends June 24 and the nominations will be announced July 17.

When Georgia Hunter first pitched her 2017 book, “We Were the Lucky Ones,” about her Polish ancestors’ fight for survival during the Holocaust, she was told World War II literature was a “saturated” market. This wasn’t meant to dissuade her from pushing forward with their harrowing story, but rather acknowledge that there is never a shortage of novels, films and series trying to reckon with the everlasting wounds of the war.
It was no different when Hunter and producers Thomas Kail and Erica Lipez adapted the book into Hulu’s eight-part limited series, which premiered in March.
“We knew with this kind of story in particular, you have to go beyond the logline,” Lipez tells Variety. “It was so much about making sure people heard the full story, particularly when we were pitching it. June 6, 2024, marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the Allied invasion of the beaches of Normandy, France. Code-named Operation Overlord, it marked the largest amphibious invasion in military history and resulted in the defeat of German Nazi forces at Reims.
Some films portray the soldiers who set foot on the shores of Normandy, portrayed by actors including John Wayne, Tom Hanks, Mark Hamill, Lee Marvin, Matt Damon, Vin Diesel, Tom Sizemore, Ted Danson, Paul Giamatti and more. Exclusive: As Deadpool & Wolverine tracks huge ahead of its July 26 release and looms as a summer box office savior, we can reveal that director Shawn Levy is the top choice and is having early conversations to direct another Marvel Studios pic — the next Avengers movie.
Deadline hears that Levy has been given the latest script by Michael Waldron, though sources add that he has not given an answer on whether he will take the job, and the studio is still planning to meet with other directors while they wait on a decision from him.

France has never had trouble getting people to fall in love with its many pleasures: the Eiffel Tower, the Palace of Versailles, the Louvre, and the island majesty of Mont Saint-Michel. It sells itself, which is probably why it is such a sought-after backdrop for television series.
But in the last year, France has been shown even more love than usual, as more than half a dozen shows, all vying for Emmy attention this season, explored the country through the ages. And no, this wasn’t some elaborate promotion for the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
From the 1600s to the modern day to a post-zombie apocalypse future, no cultural stone went unturned on TV this year, giving viewers even more reason to book their next (hopefully zombie-free) vacation.

There is a wealth of period costumes cross the categories for Emmy voters to think about this season.
In limited series, Oscar-winner Colleen Atwood built 200 to 300 leather jackets for AppleTV+’s World War II drama “Masters of the Air.” “It took six months to get them built,” Atwood says. Procuring the right elements was a global process that included getting era-specific zippers from Japan and sheepskin from Scotland and England.
Atwood also explained the unconventional aging process of the garments, saying that “once they were built, we had to shear the inside so they weren’t as thick, and then we put them in a vat of rocks inside a cement mixer to beat the leather up.”
“Shōgun” (now competing in drama series) costume designer Carlos Rosario built over 2,000 costumes for the 10-part show set in feudal Japan.
Rosario found himself limited by what primary sources were available, but he...

A private Disney club is going public. Like, big-screen public.
Club 33, the exclusive dining club inside Disneyland, is getting the movie treatment.
Darren Lemke, who has worked on such family films as Goosebumps starring Jack Black and Shazam!, has been tapped to pen the script set in a fantastical world about the club.
Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy, Dan Levine and Dan Cohen are producing through 21 Laps Entertainment, the prolific banner behind Stranger Things and the recent Holocaust drama All The Light We Cannot See.
The project is said to exude the tone and vibes of Clue and Night at the Museum, Levy’s own fantasy-adventure trilogy set in a museum and featuring exhibits and historical figures to come to life.
For Club 33, the story centers on a young aspiring detective who receives a mysterious invite to the highly secretive Club 33. In this case, it’s a magical and...

Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockman have never had an assignment like the one they faced with “All the Light They Cannot See,” the four-part Netflix wartime limited series that’s adapted from the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel from author Anthony Doerr. The UK-based casting directors were tasked with finding a pair of blind actors to play the dual lead role of Marie-Laure LeBlanc, a blind French girl. Executive producer and director Shawn Levy was insistent that they go for strict authenticity in casting. And Netflix was very much onboard. It tells you everything you need to know about partners Bevan and Brockman that hey viewed this incredibly difficult challenge as “a hugely appealing” thing, in Bevan’s words. “Casting a blind person in a leading role…well, it’s never been done before,” Bevan adds. “But that was very much part of the appeal.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.
