After Sinners overperformed, Thunderbolts* underperformed, and Final Destination Bloodlines proved there's plenty of life left in that classic horror franchise, this Memorial Day weekend will see Experiment 626 go head-to-head with Ethan Hunt.

However, according to Variety, Lilo & Stitch looks set to make short work of Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning.

Opening weekend estimates point to the latest live-action Disney movie vastly exceeding initial $120 million projections with a massive $150 million - $160 million domestic haul over four days. Tom Cruise's last Mission movie, meanwhile, is eying a respectable $75 million - $85 million debut.

Lilo & Stitch is expected to earn $125 million overseas, taking its global total to upwards of $275 million by Monday. As for The Final Reckoning, Cruise's movies always do big numbers overseas,...

Daniel Craig And Cillian Murphy In Talks For New Damien Chazelle Movie
Image
Now, here's some movie news that is very much our tempo on a Wednesday morning. With his mooted Leonardo DiCaprio Evel Knievel film having seemingly failed to launch, Whiplash auteur Damien Chazelle is already mounting another daring new project with a couple more bona fide acting heavyweights. Per Deadline's reporting, Queer's Daniel Craig and Oppenheimer Oscar winner Cillian Murphy are in talks to lead Chazelle's as-yet-untitled next movie at Paramount.

According to Deadline, both actors are still currently in the negotiation process to join Chazelle's follow-up to 2022 Hollywood love/hate letter Babylon, which would look to enter production later this year if the filmmaker gets his men to sign on the dotted line. As you'd expect at this early stage in proceedings, vanishingly little is known about what Chazelle's cooking here, though sources on the inside are telling Deadline that the genre-hopping director's film is looking likely to be a prison drama.

It is the adaptation of the eponymous epic poem by Homer, and it will be brought to the big screen through Nolan’s production company, Syncopy, and distributed by Universal Pictures. As per a recent update, it will be the first movie shot entirely on IMAX cameras.

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey makes filmmaking history with IMAX

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is one of the most highly anticipated projects from the director after the immense success of Oppenheimer. While the Oscar-winning movie used a combination of IMAX and large-format Panavision cameras, the upcoming title will be shot entirely using IMAX.

‘The Disappearance of Josef Mengele’ Review: A Post-War Study of the Nazis’ ‘Angel of Death’ Lacks Dimension
Image
With “The Disappearance of Josef Mengele,” Russian dissident Kirill Serebrennikov trains his lens once more on the fault-lines of democracy, and the ease with which fascism takes hold and cross-pollinates. However, the black-and-white-shot post-World War II biopic contains more ideas than it can handle, between a central character study — led by an impeccable August Diehl — mixed with a globe-trotting tale of evasion, along with numerous hints towards turning political wheels. The combination proves too unwieldy, at least in Serebrennikov’s scattered execution.

The movie’s prologue, set in the 21st century, establishes what would become of the Nazi war criminal, as his remains are examined by medical students in Brazil. Among the group is a pair of Black twins, whose professor mentions Mengele’s fixation with identical siblings, which both portends fleeting dramatic moments in the rest of the film, and also steeps this post-mortem study in dramatic irony. Mengele...

Cillian Murphy & Daniel Craig In Talks To Star In Prison Movie From Oscar-Winning Director
Image
Daniel Craig and Cillian Murphy are reportedly eying starring roles in a new prison film from a major director. Cillian Murphy and Daniel Craig in Talks to Star in Damien Chazelle’s Next Film
Image
Oscar winner Cillian Murphy and Daniel Craig are in negotiations to star in the next film from director Damien Chazelle, an individual with knowledge of the project told IndieWire.

The film is untitled, and while the “La La Land” and “Whiplash” filmmaker has weighed options such as an Evel Knievel biopic, several media reports say Chazelle’s follow-up to “Babylon” is set inside a prison. Leonardo DiCaprio had been circling the Knievel film, but a deal didn’t close.

Paramount Pictures is distributing the next Chazelle feature as part of his deal with the studio. Chazelle wrote and will produce the movie under his banner Wild Chickens Productions alongside Olivia Hamilton.

Chazelle’s “Babylon” from 2022 bombed at the box office but was an ambitious Old Hollywood epic starring Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt. With an $80 million budget and 3+ hour runtime, the film fizzled with just $65.2 million worldwide. But Chazelle can...

Daniel Craig, Cillian Murphy Eyed to Star in Damien Chazelle’s Next Film
Image
Cillian Murphy and Daniel Craig are in negotiations to star in Damien Chazelle’s next film.

Chazelle, the Oscar-winning “La La Land” filmmaker, will write and direct the untitled project for Paramount Pictures. He’s also producing with Olivia Hamilton through their company Wild Chickens Productions.

Though plot details haven’t been revealed, the film is expected to be a prison-set drama, according to Deadline, which first reported the news. If Murphy and Craig’s deals close, production is aiming to start later this year.

The film reunites Chazelle with Paramount, which funded the director’s prior theatrical swing, 2022’s “Babylon.” The drug-fueled ode to showbiz, starring Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie, became an epic box office disaster with $63 million worldwide against its $80 million budget. Chazelle’s other film credits include “Whiplash” and “First Man.”

Chazelle set a first-look deal with Paramount in 2022. The studio announced in 2024 that Chazelle was...

The Amateur Box Office: Rami Malek’s Spy Thriller Nears $100M Worldwide
Image
The Amateur Box Office(Photo Credit –20thcenturystudios)

The Amateur quietly held its ground like a seasoned underdog, while Final Destination: Bloodlines soaked up most of the spotlight with a thunderous box office debut. The Rami Malek-led film didn’t ride in on any franchise glory, but it chipped away at expectations week after week.

The movie stacked up a respectable $40 million in the US and nudged close to $100 million globally, according to Box Office Mojo. Honestly, it’s no small feat in a landscape where even star-led action flicks like A Working Man barely make it past the finish line with similar totals.

The Amateur: A Low-Key Spy Thriller

Unlike other flashy thriller movies, The Amateur leans into its old-school espionage roots. Rami Malek leads the charge here with the quiet weight of an actor returning to a lead role after a long gap. His supporting turns in mega-hits...

Thunderbolts* On the Verge of Being a Flop, Report Reveals Massive Earnings Gap
Image
Considering the misfit team of anti-heroes, shady government ops, Bucky Barnes brooding in a corner, and Yelena Belova expressing her love for Mac and cheese, we all expected MCU’s Thunderbolts* to make some noise at the box office. But turns out, our once-hyped chaos crew has landed in theaters with less thunder and more of a weak drizzle.

With a $180M budget and just $325M at the box office, the math ain’t mathing. It still seems to need $35M to break even—and that’s before we even start talking about profit. What just happened with Thunderbolts*, despite the hype? It seems the movie might end up being a flop with its massive earnings gap.

A closer look at Thunderbolts* box office collection

Bringing in renowned stars like David Harbour and casting Oppenheimer’s Florence Pugh alongside Sebastian Stan didn’t come cheap for Marvel. And that’s...

‘The Amateur’ Races Jason Statham’s 49% Rotten Tomatoes Action Film to $100 Million at Global Box Office
Image
While Final Destination Bloodlines dominated the box office chatter this weekend with an exemplary performance, 20th Century Studios’ The Amateur continued to provide textbook counter-programming. The movie’s workmanlike performance across the last month or so has yielded $40 million at the domestic box office and nearly $100 million worldwide. Not too many films these days are able to hit such numbers; case in point, the recent Jason Statham action vehicle A Working Man, which seems to have ended its run with just under $100 million globally.

And although The Amateur hasn’t hit the coveted milestone yet either, there’s no denying that it’s a less glamorous affair than a new Statham film. For one, it’s a grown-up espionage thriller and not a mass-market action movie. For another, it stars Rami Malek, and not a movie star who is generally considered to be a genre unto himself. Malek has an Oscar under his belt,...

‘Anatomy of a Fall’ Producer Marie-Ange Luciani Sets Next Projects by Alain Guiraudie, Monia Chokri, Hélène Rosselet-Ruiz, Jean-Gabriel Periot (Exclusive)
Image
Even after winning an Oscar, a Palme d’Or and six Cesar awards with Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall,” French producer Marie-Ange Luciani isn’t resting on her laurels. The Paris-based producer, who runs the company Les Films de Pierre, still strives to work with emerging filmmakers and newcomers, such as Laura Wandel, whose second feature, “Adam’s Sake,” opened this year’s Cannes Critics Week to warm reviews. She’s also cultivated relationships with established auteurs, such as Robin Campillo, who won Cannes’ 2017 Jury Prize with “Bpm (Beats Per Minute)” and opened Directors’ Fortnight this year with “Enzo,” which he finished after his close friend Laurent Cantet, the helmer of the Palme d’Or winning “The Class,” died before he could finish the drama.

Aside from developing Triet’s follow up to “Anatomy of a Fall,” Luciani is looking ahead at a busy 2026.

She’ll next work...

Christopher Nolan's Plan To Save Movie Theaters Could Be Just Ambitious Enough To Work
Image
As the number of movie theaters equipped with film projectors continues to dwindle, Christopher Nolan's ongoing crusade to save the celluloid format might seem downright quixotic. While many top filmmakers, along with Nolan, still shoot their movies on (mostly) 35mm film stock, to get the full effect of the rich, textured images, you really need to see their work projected on film. This is doable if you live in a metropolis like New York City or Los Angeles, but is virtually impossible outside of major media markets.

The conventional wisdom amongst studios and exhibitors is that film projection is dead. Bringing it back would require theater owners to not just purchase and install new equipment but also train some employees in the dying art of film projection. Given the imperiled state of theatrical exhibition (even when theaters are not being actively destroyed a la screenings of "A Minecraft Movie...

Christopher Nolan Plans To Make History As The Odyssey Will Be The First Film Shot 100% In IMAX
Image
Christopher Nolan’s next cinematic venture, the mythological epic The Odyssey, is set to break new ground by being the first commercial feature filmed exclusively with IMAX cameras.

Nolan is no stranger to the IMAX format, having incorporated it into key sequences across several of his major films, including Dunkirk, Interstellar, The Dark Knight, Tenet, and most recently, Oppenheimer.

The IMAX format has proven to be a lucrative component of Nolan’s box office appeal—IMAX screenings reportedly accounted for 20% of Oppenheimer’s impressive $975.8 million global haul.

On the technological achievement, Imax CEO Rich Gelfond stated, "Chris called me up and said, ‘If you can figure out how to solve the problems, I will make [Odyssey] 100 percent in Imax.’ And that’s what we’re doing."

Gelfond added, "He forced us to rethink that side of our business, our film recorders, our film cameras.”

Historically, the sheer bulk of IMAX...

Image
Josh Hartnett, the late '90s teenage heartthrob famous for films like Black Hawk Down, Pearl Harbor, and The Black Dahlia, debuted in Hollywood with two major films released in 1998. One was Halloween H20: 20 Years Later, arguably the most underrated Halloween sequel, where he portrayed Laurie Strode's son and one of Michael Myers' targets. As The Faculty's remake enters the development stage, Hartnett has commented on whether he'll reprise his role as Zeke Tyler. All we have to say is, don't get too excited.

Hartnett is currently promoting his latest movie, Fight or Flight. Speaking on The Playlist's podcast, The Discourse, Hartnett talked about the action thriller that has already earned solid reviews. He was also asked...

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey Takes a Historic Step That Could Change How Movies Are Made
Image
Christopher Nolan has always pushed the limits of the film industry with his projects, often bringing new techniques that keep the audience on the edge of their seats. Rest assured, he will do that again for his upcoming project, the epic The Odyssey.

Nolan, who still basks in the success of the seven-time Oscar-winning 2023 film Oppenheimer, has an even more ambitious project on his hands. When he started filming the upcoming star-studded film, based on Homer's epic, he challenged IMAX boss Rich Gelfond to a move that could completely change the industry. During a press event at the Cannes Film Festival, Gelfond revealed thatThe Odyssey will make history as the first film shot entirely using IMAX cameras, per Collider.

"Chris is going to kill me for saying this, which makes him happy," Gelfond started. "Which is, about a year before Chris started filming Odyssey, he called me in and said,...

Who Plays Gurathin On Apple TV+'s Murderbot?
Image
The new Apple TV+ sci-fi series "Murderbot" stars Alexander Skarsgård as the titular cyborg, who's able to hack his system and go rogue. Unfortunately, free will does little for a mildly outdated security construct whose only desires in life are to watch bad TV and be left in peace — especially since the self-appointed Murderbot understands all too well that no one can ever find out that it has free will in the first place.

Peace, of course, is not on the cards when you're the titular character on what may turn out to be one of the best sci-fi shows on Apple TV+. Murderbot soon becomes the chosen SecUnit of a scientist expedition that's heading toward a mystery planet, which contains more than its share of dangers. It doesn't help Murderbot that it doesn't fully comprehend or appreciate humanity ... and even less helpful is the fact that the group soon discovers its sentience,...

‘Sinners’ Is Beating the Last Two ‘Avengers’ Movies By One Big Box Office Metric
Image
Having completed nearly a month of release in theaters worldwide, Sinners has firmly established itself among the biggest horror movies ever made. It's also the year's second-biggest Hollywood film, behind A Minecraft Movie, and is now pacing ahead of two entirely unexpected blockbusters. On its fourth Wednesday of release in domestic theaters, Ryan Coogler's vampire film out-grossed both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame's fourth Wednesday hauls. Sinners isn't performing like a summer release, but a Christmastime hit instead. Films released during the holidays tend to have longer legs, and Sinners has already generated around five times its opening weekend haul.

On its 27th day of release, Sinners made $2.25 million at the domestic box office, which puts it ahead of Endgame's $2 million and Infinity War's $1.9 million fourth Wednesday hauls. It's worth remembering that Endgame and Infinity War are among the highest-grossing films in history, having earned $858 million...

“The Odyssey” is being shot by cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema, who has collaborated with Nolan on “Interstellar,” “Dunkirk,” “Tenet” and “Oppenheimer.” He won the best cinematography Oscar for the latter film and spoke to Variety at the time about working with...

Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey will set an IMAX record. The filmmaker, who is known for huge hits including Oppenheimer, The Dark Knight, and Inception, is setting his sights on Homer's classic epic poem for his next project. Matt Damon will star as the Greek hero Odysseus opposite a massive ensemble cast that includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Elliot Page, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Lupita Nyong'o, Charlize Theron, Himesh Patel, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Samantha Morton, Shiloh Fernandez, Cosmo Jarvis, and Mia Goth, quite a few of whom are actors Christopher Nolan has worked with before.

Christopher Nolan’s 'The Odyssey' To Be First Blocksbuter Filmed Entirely in IMAX

If any of the current filmmakers working today are going to make history, it's going to be Christopher Nolan. The director has been one of the most prominent voices in support of theaters and shoots films in the best format possible to give audiences the true cinematic experience. Nolan has used IMAX cameras to shoot some of the biggest set pieces in his larger-scale films, but he has now decided to take that to the next level.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Nolan's next film, The Odyssey, will make history as the first movie shot entirely with IMAX cameras. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey will be the first film shot entirely with IMAX cameras
Christopher Nolan at an event for Inception (2010)
Christopher Nolan certainly has the “go big or go home” mentality. When he pioneered the usage of IMAX cameras on Hollywood movies when they were primarily used for nature documentaries, Nolan has never truly looked back. Even with movies like Oppenheimer, which was more of a talky character drama, he utilized the technology as fully as he could. After Oppenheimer became a massive success, Nolan challenged IMAX boss Rich Gelfond. Gelfond explained, “A year before Chris started filming The Odyssey, he called me and said he wanted to make a whole film shot with IMAX cameras.”

According to Deadline, Gelfond added, “That couldn’t be done for a lot of reasons. There were lots of issues.” IMAX cameras are famously bulky and noisy since they are shooting on the highest-grade film available. But Nolan would persist as Gelfond expounded that Nolan said to him, “‘I’m going to give you a challenge.

Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ Will Be the First Movie Shot Entirely With Imax Film Cameras
Image
Homer’s “The Odyssey” is described as an epic poem, and now Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film adaptation is set to live up to that descriptor: “The Odyssey” will be the first movie ever shot entirely with Imax film cameras, Imax CEO Rich Gelfond revealed at Cannes on Thursday.

“Chris called me up and said If you can figure out how to solve the problems, I will make [“Odyssey”] 100 percent in Imax. And that’s what we’re doing,” Gelfond told press at an Imax lunch. “He forced us to rethink that side of our business, our film recorders, our film cameras.”

The distinction here is Imax film cameras. “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame” were shot entirely with Imax digital cameras, but Nolan has always been a proponent of traditional film and uses 70mm film Imax cameras, which are not only very large and cumbersome but also extremely loud.

‘The Odyssey’ Is First Film Shot Entirely With Imax Film Cameras: How CEO Rich Gelfond Met Christopher Nolan’s Challenge

Coming away from the $100M global success of Oppenheimer in Imax (in a total global haul of $975.8M), Christopher Nolan made a challenge to Imax Boss Rich Gelfond.

“A year before Chris started filming The Odyssey, he called me and said he wanted to make a whole film shot with Imax cameras,” said Gelfond.

“That couldn’t be done for a lot of reasons,” he added. Read, some of the complications to shooting on Imax film included reloading stock, galley sounds and the timely re-watching of dailies.

“There were lots of issues,” said Gelfond when it came to shooting an entire movie in Imax, but Nolan told him, “‘I’m going to give you a challenge. Dominique Thorne made her live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Riri Williams in 2022's "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" and left us wanting an "Ironheart" series right there and then. What with everything we know about "Ironheart," the show should prove to be worth the wait, too. With executive producer Ryan Coogler (who also directed the first two "Black Panther" movies) fresh off his bloody vampire masterclass "Sinners" and the MCU itself on the upswing following the emotional gut punch of "Thunderbolts*," the hype train of "Ironheart" is drawn by two capable locomotives ... and that's before you take into account the amount of talent attached.

Series creator Chinaka Hodge was a staff writer on AMC's dystopian sci-fi train thriller "Snowpiercer." Directing duties of the six-episode series are shared by Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes ("Mythic Quest," "Atlanta.") On the acting front, Thorne has ample backup from the likes of Anthony Ramos and Alden Ehrenreich.

Lionsgate’s ‘Ballerina’ Sets Russia Release as Studios Say Cold War Thaw Is ‘Inevitable’ (Exclusive)
Image
Who will blink first? That is the question when it comes to which studio will resume distributing films in Russia after a three-year moratorium sparked by the country’s invasion of Ukraine.

The answer appears to be Lionsgate, which is planning to release the Ana de Armas-led “John Wick” spinoff “Ballerina” on June 5 through Russian distributor Atmosfera Kino. A Lionsgate spokesperson declined comment, though a person familiar with the matter told Variety that the studio is willing to “move forward in Russia on a case-by-case basis,” a policy shift attributed to the “passage of time” and that “sentiment has changed.”

The move comes with hopes that the major studios will follow Lionsgate amid declining international box office revenues and anticipation that a Russia-Ukraine détente will be reached given that U.S. President Donald Trump has prioritized the matter in the early days of his second term. Neither Marvel’s “The Fantastic Four: First Steps...

7 Movies You Didn’t Know Were Based on True Stories
Image
The world of entertainment is a story-making machine. From fascinating tales set in unrealistic fictional worlds to tales grounded in reality offering eye-opening commentary on the world we live in, to everything above and beyond and between.

The same tales have a unique power to transport us into worlds of imagination, drama, and emotion, often leaving us questioning the blurred lines between reality and the fictional world. All these stories are born out of the incredible minds of their storytellers, aka the screenwriters. But sometimes, even storytellers need inspiration, and this inspiration comes from true stories.

While some movies like Oppenheimer, Into the Wild, Schindler’s List, and more wear their ‘based on a true story‘ badge with honor, others often end up slipping under the radar, weaving real-life inspirations into narratives that feel like pure Hollywood invention. These hidden gems often end up surprising us with their storytelling and the remarkable truths behind them.

Jack Quaid Couldn’t Really Hide His Swollen Nose While Working With Jennifer Lawrence in ‘The Hunger Games’
Image
Jack Quaid is making waves in Hollywood these days. Be it his stellar performance in movies like Oppenheimer, Companion, Scream, or blockbuster series like The Boys, the 33-year-old actor has been the talk of the town recently.

His new movie, Novocaine, too, has only added to his magnificent repertoire due to the mastery he has shown over his acting skills, even while presented with such a unique premise. Interestingly though, this wasn’t the first time the actor had to get bloody for his role in a movie.

While Novocaine and even The Boys had plenty of sequences where Jack Quaid looked battered on camera, his first movie, The Hunger Games, with Jennifer Lawrence, left him with an injury that even the heavy special effects couldn’t hide it from fans.

Josh Hartnett Reveals What Drew Him to New Action Thriller 'Fight or Flight'
Image
30 Days of Night star Josh Hartnett is in the middle of a long-awaited comeback, with the actor having now worked under the direction of Christopher Nolan in the Oscar-winning Oppenheimer and M. Night Shyamalan’s gloriously twisted thriller, Trap. The actor has now joined the upper echelons of action heroes, taking on John Wick-esque duties in the sky-high action outing, Fight or Flight. Speaking with MovieWeb’s own George Edelman, Hartnett revealed what drew him to finally demonstrate his own particular set of skills.

“Really the tone of it was the most important thing to us. Like, I always wanted to do something where I did my own stunts. I've been able to do one other time in my career. It was a movie called Boon Raku. I was 29 years old, and when they asked me to do this, and the conceit of it is that the actor does his own stunts.

Alexander Skarsgård’s Bloodthirsty New Sci-Fi Series Debuts With a Delicious Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
Alexander Skarsgård’s new Apple TV+ series is set to debut its first two episodes this Friday, and early reviews for the series have already begun pouring in. While it’s still early, Murderbot has earned enough scores on Rotten Tomatoes to be given a perfect 100% rating at the time of writing. This comes from only 13 reviews, so it is subject to change, but Apple TV+ couldn’t have asked for a better start. The show won’t be given a rating on the audience-driven Popcornmeter until this weekend after its premiere. Murderbot follows a security android (Skarsgård) who struggles with its emotions and freewill while also trying to balance dangerous missions and the desire to be alone. Murderbot has defied protocols and is anything but a typical android.

In addition to Skarsgård, Murderbot also stars David Dastmalchian, who is known for his roles in The Suicide Squad, Dune: Part One,...

15 Celebrities Who Hated Their Biopics
Image
Biopics are really having a moment right now. While the genre itself is nothing new, biopics seem like an easy way not only to make a lot of money at the box office but to bring home a bunch of trophies during awards season. If you're lucky and/or have the right director at the helm, you can achieve both like with 2023's "Oppenheimer," which grossed close to $1 billion worldwide to become the highest-grossing biopic of all time and took home Best Picture at that year's Academy Awards.

It feels like Hollywood isn't going to let go of this trend anytime soon, and for notable figures who become the subjects of these movies, it's often a chance to have their accomplishments shared with a vast audience. But even if a biopic is largely complimentary, some people just don't like seeing their dirty laundry aired for the world to see.

There's...

The Odyssey: Everything We Know About The Christopher Nolan Movie
Image
Award-winning director Christopher Nolan is no stranger to massive projects, but his adaptation of "The Odyssey" will probably be his biggest undertaking yet. The director behind "The Dark Knight," "Inception," and "Oppenheimer," (just to name a few of his blockbuster films) is taking on Homer's epic poem, and filming is already underway for the project — which is set to release in 2026 (as of this writing).

So what do we need to know about "The Odyssey" before it hits theaters and, in all likelihood, blows critics and audiences away? If you didn't have to read "The Odyssey" for any of your high school English classes, I'll also go over the basic plot points of "The Odyssey," remind you that it is, in fact, a sequel — to another of Homer's poems — and talk about some straightforward and wildly divergent adaptations of this famous story. Here's everything you need to know about...

Josh Hartnett Reveals the Very Personal Reasons for His Career Resurgence
Image
In the late 90s and early 2000s, Josh Hartnett was everywhere. Films like The Faculty,Black Hawk Down, Pearl Harbor, and 40 Days and 40 Nights solidified him as one of Hollywood's hottest rising stars. Then, following the release of 2007's 30 Days of Night, Hartnett all but disappeared from the mainstream. Sure, he was still making movies, but they were quieter, independent productions like I Come with the Rain, The Lovers, and Stuck Between Stations. Neither of them made very much money, and it was a case of being out of sight, out of mind, as folks had all but forgotten about him until his starring role in Showtime's Penny Dreadful.

Now, Harnett is back in the public eye and experiencing a career resurgence of sorts thanks to movies like Oppenheimer, Trap, and his latest release, Fight or Flight. Speaking with MovieWeb's own George Edleman, Harnett explained the reasoning for...

Matt Damon's Interstellar Cameo, Explained
Image
"Interstellar" represents a lot of firsts for Christopher Nolan. The 2014 sci-fi movie was the first time the director infused one of his stories with some real heart and treated it as if it were just as important as any of the philosophical musings which typically guide his films. As such, "Interstellar" became Nolan's heartfelt masterpiece, not only making time for emotional exploration but also arguing for love itself as our only means of transcending the inexorable march of time.

"Interstellar" was also the first time Nolan worked with Dp Hoyte van Hoytema, who has since served as cinematographer on three of the British director's other films. It was also the first time Nolan worked with Matt Damon, who for a long time had been an outspoken fan of the director. Even after his brief appearance in "Interstellar," Damon was angling for a bigger role in a Nolan film, which he...

One of Cillian Murphy’s Lowest Rated Horror Movies Starring Elizabeth Olsen and Robert De Niro Is On Prime Video – Watch or Pass?
Image
Though it’s hard to believe, given his looks, Cillian Murphy has been in the show business for almost three decades. While his professional acting debut happened with a stage play named Disco Pigs in 1996, he wasn’t a household name until the 2002 film 28 Days Later.

However, in between starring in Danny Boyle’s science fiction horror and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, Murphy starred in several projects. While some of his projects, like Batman Begins, Inception, and Peaky Blinders, cemented his position as a versatile actor, there were a few underwhelming appearances as well.

The 48-year-old Irish actor’s 2012 outing with Elizabeth Olsen and Robert De Niro, Red Lights, can be categorized as such. The movie, which has a meager score of only 30% on Rotten Tomatoes, has recently been added to Amazon Prime Video. But the question remains: should you watch it or pass?

Josh Hartnett’s 6 Best Performances, From ‘Penny Dreadful’ to ‘Trap’
Image
Josh Hartnett has banked nearly 30 years in Hollywood, beginning with roles in horror flicks “The Faculty” and “Halloween H20: 20 Years Later” and the TV show “Cracker.”

Sure, he landed big roles, like in Michael Bay’s “Pearl Harbor,” but the former teen idol never got much respect for his acting. Now, however, thanks to his roles in “Oppenheimer,” “Trap” and “Black Mirror,” we’re in the middle of a Hartnett-issance

He’s back in action mode in his new thriller “Fight or Flight,” which is, essentially, “Bullet Train,” but on a plane: His mercenary character has to fight off several assassins who want him and his client dead.

Here are the roles where he’s demonstrated he’s definitely got the chops. When he’s good, he’s great, but when he’s bad, he’s even better.

‘Fight or Flight’ Review: Josh Hartnett Is So Committed It Hurts in Bonkers (and Awesome) ‘John Wick’ Send-Up
Image
Thank God for Josh Hartnett. We live in a deeply troubled world, so miserable lately that it’s hard to find the motivation to look out a window let alone watch a cheesy action movie. But Hartnett provides. The actor may not have written or directed the new high-octane, high altitude action-comedy “Fight or Flight” but it’s his put upon, simultaneously early-and-late era Daffy Duck energy that makes it soar.

“Fight or Flight” stars Hartnett as Lucas Reyes, a bedraggled cab driver, permanently hung over and sporting frosted tips in the year 2025, so you know he’s having a rough one. He gets a call from his ex-girlfriend and ex-boss Katherine Brunt (Katee Sackhoff), and she’s in a pickle. You see, Reyes used to work in the Secret Service before he got railroaded, and he’s been living on the run ever since. All he has to do...

Netflix Is Hiding Cillian Murphy’s Most Terrifying Performance That Still Makes Him Sad: “He acquiesces to…”
Image
Cillian Murphy may have garnered global applause for his powerful portrayals in Peaky Blinders and Oppenheimer, but this lesser-known role arguably stands as his most emotionally distressing and horrifying performance. His role as Darren in Disco Pigs (2001) is still vastly underappreciated and hidden away from the mainstream eye.

Adapted from a stage play by Enda Walsh, Disco Pigs is a brutally intricate look at the amplifying intensity of codependency in friendship, fixation, and emotional ruin. Murphy’s portrayal of a teenager at the edge of emotional collapse is chillingly good- raw and immersive.

This movie not only marked the start of his career but also portrayed his potential as an iconic actor. Despite being available on streaming, the film is under-acknowledged. But for audiences who appreciate real and bold emotional narratives, Disco Pigs remains a hidden gem that deserves a spotlight of its own.

His role in Disco Pigs still...

Josh Hartnett’s New Action Flick’s Rotten Tomatoes Score Has Nosedived Since its Debut
Image
Following the mixed reception to his leading role in the M. Night Shyamalan thriller Trap, Black Hawk Down star Josh Hartnett has recently returned to our screens in the feature directorial debut of James Madigan, Fight or Flight. Likened to David Leitch's Bullet Train but set in the sky, Fight or Flight sees Hartnett's mercenary Lucas Reyes as he attempts to foil the dastardly plan of an international terrorist known as "The Ghost" during the middle of an airplane flight.

When the movie first premiered on Sky Cinema on Friday, February 28, it was met with a terrific reception that eventually led to a perfect 100% critics rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. However, ahead of the movie's long-awaited US debut on Friday, May 9, it seems that Fight or Flight has been unable to hold onto such a reputation, dropping from 100% to an 84% score as more reviews have been filed. Although...
