The Beyond the Gates premiere is a little over a month away, and the hype is starting to build steam. Over the weekend, CBS Sunday Morning featured a segment focusing on the upcoming CBS soap opera. Thanks to correspondent Nancy Giles, we saw the cast, heard from the show’s executive producers, Sheila Ducksworth and Michele Val Jean, and learned a little more about this groundbreaking daytime drama.
What We Learned Executive Producer Sheila Ducksworth, who is also the president of this CBS/NAACP production, teased what viewers will get to see. She hinted at “plenty of love triangles, plenty of people you love, love to hate” and added that “it’s really juicy.” When Tamara Tunie (Anita Dupree) and Clifton Davis (Vernon Dupree) give Giles the set tour, they take the correspondent to Orphey Gene’s, the diner that’s the gathering place “for everybody in every economic bracket in the show” goes to.

Four of Taylor Sheridan's TV shows came out with new seasons in 2024, but I'm convinced that Landman is definitely the best of the bunch. All of Taylor Sheridan's shows offer something unique that makes them great. Whether it's the drama of Yellowstone, the action of Lioness, or the Western storytelling of Lawmen: Bass Reeves, Sheridan has made a name for himself as one of the best writers in television. Each one of his shows is almost guaranteed to be a hit, even when they all release shortly after one another.
As much as I love Sheridan's shows, they're not all created equal. The fact that four of his shows were released within just three months of each other makes it even easier to compare his acclaimed series. After watching all four, I'm pretty much convinced that Landman was the best of the bunch. The ending of Landman season 1 only made that clearer,...

With the unprecedented success of Yellowstone in such a short amount of time and the expansion of its universe, it's clearer than ever that creator Taylor Sheridan has become one of the top talents in television. He's joined the likes of Ryan Murphy, Shonda Rhimes, Dick Wolf, and more with his uncanny ability to craft a surefire hit that the masses will devour.
Sheridan's reach extends beyond the Yellowstone universe with additional hit shows like Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Lioness, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, and his most recent hit Landman. While we hope to see Tulsa King, Landman, and Lioness officially renewed for more seasons, Sheridan already has plenty more shows already in the works to look forward to.
Curious about what Taylor Sheridan could be cooking up on the small screen in the future? We're sharing the low down on the five current shows the writer and producer...

Seven years went from the time when director Coralie Fargeat made her feature directorial debut with a very cool revenge movie that was appropriately titled Revenge – you can read our 8/10 review of the film at This Link – and when she came back with an “explosive feminist take on body horror” called The Substance, which stars Demi Moore (Ghost) and Margaret Qualley (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood). Fargeat’s second movie was worth the wait (you can read our 9/10 review Here), and has been streaming on the Mubi service since Halloween. Qualley wore some major prosthetic makeup for some sequences in the film – and during a new interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, she revealed that it took a year for her skin to recover from the irritation caused by those prosthetics.
The film is gory, but also humorous, and it’s quite a wild ride. Here’s the...

Netflix's epic new period Western show American Primeval is the platform's first genuine effort to compete with Taylor Sheridan's multiple Western series. Since the groundbreaking success of Yellowstone, which finally concluded in December 2024, Sheridan has expanded his Western television franchise into multiple spin-offs and prequel series. Additionally, Sheridan also has several other original series with Western influences, such as the recent Landman starring Billy Bob Thornton and Jon Hamm.
While Yellowstone is a contemporary Western, Sheridan's various series cover several different time periods going as far back as post-Civil War America. Lawmen: Bass Reeves, which Sheridan did not write or direct was an executive producer, takes place in the 1860s, while his Yellowstone prequels, 1883 and 1923, take place in their titular years. This goes to show just how firm of a stronghold Sheridan has had over the Western television genre in recent years, which Netflix finally seems to be responding to.

In the "Star Trek: Enterprise" episode "Chosen Realm", the Enterprise rescues a group of Triannons whose ship was damaged by a spatial anomaly. The captain of the Triannons, a man named Pri'Nam D'Jamat (Conor O'Farrell), explains that he leads a religious sect self-tasked with the exploration of multiple mysterious mechanical spheres that are scattered throughout this part of the galaxy. The spheres, he says, were created by the gods, and will guide his people toward the correct religious doctrine. He believes that the space around the spheres is holy land.
Rather suddenly, one of D'Jamat's retinue explodes in a suicide bombing. D'Jamat demands that Captain Archer (Scott Bakula) turn over control of the Enterprise to his sect, as he wants to use the ship's advanced weapons to aid a holy war raging back on his home planet. Fresh off the conclusion (maybe?) of “Yellowstone,” another Taylor Sheridan show just got renewed. “Mayor of Kingstown” will return for Season 4, Paramount+ announced on Wednesday, ensuring that Jeremy Renner’s Mike McLusky will be back.
Sheridan co-created the drama series with Hugh Dillon, and the third season ranked as the No. 1 series on Paramount+ throughout its run.

The National Theatre production of Coriolanus, starring David Oyelowo, will become available for streaming starting in January.
The production, which played London’s Olivier Theatre in a two-month run this past fall, will stream on National Theatre at Home’s subscription platform starting Jan. 2. This play, and making the production more accessible, especially given its political resonance, holds particular importance for Oyelowo, the Selma and Lawmen: Bass Reeves star who made his return to the stage in the title role.
“Not everyone can get to London, or everyone can afford those prices, and then quite a lot of people are just intimidated by Shakespeare, and so access to it in an environment that is maybe less intimidating, or means less of an effort to get to the theater in order to engage with a play that you’re already intimidated by, those are all things that I really embrace,” Oyelowo said.

Kevin Costner didn’t just ride off into the sunset — he dragged Yellowstone’s mojo with him. Taylor Sheridan, the mastermind-turned-maestro of messy exits, watched his empire crack faster than a cowboy’s whip. But here’s the kicker: it wasn’t just Costner’s departure that tanked things.

Sheridan’s ego flat-out refused to greenlight the one spin-off everyone begged for. Instead, he doubled down on his own vision, leaving fans with scraps while the perfect plot twist gathered dust.

You know that feeling when you stumble upon a creator who just gets it? That’s Taylor Sheridan for you. Over the past few years, he’s basically become the king of modern Western television, turning out hit after hit faster than a quickdraw contest. What makes Sheridan’s shows so special isn’t just their gritty authenticity or stunning cinematography – it’s how they manage to capture the essence of America’s evolving identity, from its dusty frontiers to its gleaming skyscrapers.

And boy, has Sheridan been busy. Since Yellowstone first saddled up in 2018, he’s created a small empire of interconnected shows that explore everything from historical epics to contemporary crime dramas. His universe has grown so vast that it’s getting harder to keep track of all the gems (and occasional rough stones) in his collection.

In 2021, Billy Bob Thornton had a brief cameo in an episode of “1883,” the hugely popular “Yellowstone” spinoff. That’s where he met Taylor Sheridan, whose vast television empire includes most of the shows people subscribe to Paramount+ for. “He said, ‘I wrote this cameo and when I looked at it, I realized I can’t just cast a local. I need somebody who’s done this before in a bigger way,’” Thornton said. At the “1883” premiere in Las Vegas, Thornton and Sheridan sat together at the afterparty and Sheridan told him, “I’m writing this thing called ‘Landman’ for you and you’re going to love it.”
“I’m not the type who takes stuff that I’m not right for because I want to present myself in the best possible way,” Thornton said. “I always tell people, if you’re going to do a movie about Charles de Gaulle,...

Fans of modern Western shows are enjoying something of a Golden Age for the genre, thanks, in no small part, to the storytelling genius of Taylor Sheridan. The actor turned writer and director is a pioneering force at the very point of a new frontier, with the juggernaut Yellowstone shared universe, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, and newly-launched Landman exploring the eternal appeal of Old West with a modern spin.
Sheridan's success wouldn't be possible without the shows that flattened the long grass before it: you can trace a line straight back from Yellowstone to The Lone Ranger, but even more pertinently, the likes of NBC's long-running Bonanza, which aired 431 episodes between 1959 and 1973, and the even longer-running Gunsmoke. The time settings may not be the same, but Sheridan's focus on intertwining character dynamics, high-drama, and flexible moral spectrums were the same reasons Bonanza and Gunsmoke earned their stunning longevity.

Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone was the franchise that kickstarted his career. He began working on the original show in 2013 after spending years as an actor. It primarily follows a family of rich ranchers from Montana, known as the Duttons. The show stars Kevin Costner (John), Luke Grimes (Kayce), Kelly Reilly (Beth), and Wes Bentley (Jamie). Midway through season 5, Costner left Yellowstone, forcing Sheridan to pivot and write his character out of the show. This season is expected to serve as the conclusion to a series that drew over 12 million viewers at its height.
Despite its popularity, the show has certainly not been Sheridan's only major project. He worked on several movies before it, including Vile (2011), Sicario (2015), Hell or High Water (2016), and Wind River (2017). None ever managed to reach the heights of the acclaimed neo-Western. After that series exploded, he shifted by focusing primarily on TV shows, creating The Last Cowboy (2019), Mayor of Kingstown...

The “Yellowstone” Season 5B premiere was shocking in ways both expected and unexpected.
We expected that John Dutton, the character played by Kevin Costner, would meet his maker following a prolonged and very public skirmish between the star and series creator Taylor Sheridan, which involved contract obligations and Costner’s own western epic “Horizon.” Ultimately, they couldn’t reach an agreement and Costner left the show.
But the way that his death was handled in Episode 9, and the mystery and sadness and grief surrounding his passing, along with an ingenious structure for the first episode that flashed back, for most of the runtime, to six weeks before his death, added even more emotional heft.
Corralling all of this fell to director Christina Alexandra Voros, a longtime member of the “Yellowstone” family who has directed 9 episodes of the mainline series, along with episodes of “1883” and Sheridan’s “Lawmen: Bass Reeves.

“Yellowstone” is finally back.
Taylor Sheridan’s series, which last aired a new episode on Jan. 1, 2023, is the most popular show on TV. Given the lengthy time off, exacerbated by two Hollywood strikes and the prolonged tug-of-war between Sheridan and star Kevin Costner (which ultimately led to his departure), anticipation for the show is at an all-time high.
Going into the second half of season 5, there is a grab for power in the Dutton household, between Jamie (Wes Bentley) and Beth (Kelly Reilly), with Kayce (Luke Grimes) also in the mix. Rip (Cole Hauser) was headed with the herd to the 6666 ranch in Texas. And tensions were otherwise running very high. Everything is ready to explode.
But how do you actually watch the new season of “Yellowstone,” which is technically the second half of season 5 (or 5B)? Let us explain it all. Here’s when and where to watch new episodes of “Yellowstone,...

Yellowstone is (reportedly) ending after season 5, and while Taylor Sheridan's next series might seem like its perfect replacement, it likely won't satisfy those looking to fill the Yellowstone-shaped holes in their hearts. The neo-Western drama TV show created by Sheridan and John Linson has been Sheridan's breakthrough, and ever since its premiere in 2018, the filmmaker has created and produced six series for Paramount. Among them are two Yellowstone spinoffs (1883 and 1923), Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Special Ops: Lioness, and Lawmen: Bass Reeves. Soon, Sheridan will be able to add Landman to that list.
Yellowstone season 5, part 2 premieres on Sunday, November 10, at 8 pm Et on Paramount Network, and Landman debuts one week later on Sunday, November 17, on Paramount+.

Now Fargeat is back with an “explosive feminist take on body horror” called The Substance, which stars Demi Moore (Ghost) and Margaret Qualley (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood). The movie received a theatrical release last month (you can read our 9/10 review Here), and now it has been announced that The Substance will be available to stream exclusively on Mubi as of October 31st.
