Fox Unveils Unscripted-Heavy Fall Schedule Featuring Surprise NBC Series
Image
Fox is switching things up like never before during the 2025-2026 TV season, and it’s bad news for fans of scripted TV.

The network will air just two live-action scripted dramas: Doc and Murder in a Small Town.

The drama duo will air on Tuesdays, meaning every other weeknight will be devoted to unscripted offerings.

(Courtesy of Fox)

After so many cancellations and so few scripted series in the network’s pipeline, it was inevitable that executives would reach this decision.

But still, it stings for many reasons. It showcases how far the broadcast networks have fallen regarding ratings, impacting profitability.

Here’s Exactly Why ‘American Dad!’ Moved Back to Fox
Image
American Dad! is coming back to its home network at Fox next year after the network gave the Seth MacFarlane animated comedy a whopping four-season renewal. Now we know why Fox decided to swipe the series from its second home. Fox was the original broadcaster for the series, which centers on a right-wing CIA agent who is raising his family alongside a quirky alien, and ran on the network from 2005 until 2014 when it moved to TBS until March 2025. Now, Fox is bringing the show back, and on a conference call Sunday (May 11), the executives of the network revealed why. In response to a reporter’s question about why the series was picked up by the network (and whether that was contingent on the renewals of the other three shows in the “Animation Domination” lineup), CEO Rob Wade explained, “Obviously, we’re really delighted to have our partnership with our friends...

Fox Fall 2025 Schedule: Reality & Sports Rule 5 Nights As Monday Goes Unscripted, ‘The Floor’ Succeeds ‘The Masked Singer’
Image
For as far back as memory goes, Monday has been synonymous with drama on the Fox schedule. Some of the network’s signature series of the last couple of decades like 24, House, Prison Break and 9-1-1 have called the night home for all or significant portion of their run. That will change this coming fall when Monday night will go unscripted in a non-strike year with Name That Tune and Celebrity Weakest Link, leaving Tuesday night as the only night featuring live-action scripted programming on the network.

“Thematically, our goal for Fox is to deliver entertainment that speaks to our strengths. Irreverent. Fun And a place where comedy and emotional connectivity run throughout our schedule,” Fox Entertainment CEO Rob Wade said during the network’s pre-upfront press call Sunday.

Fox 2025-2026 Fall Schedule: ‘American Dad’ to Debut Midseason, Jane Lynch’s ‘Weakest Link’ and ‘Fear Factor’ Reboot Lead Unscripted Slate
Image
Fox revealed its 2025-2026 schedule Monday ahead of its upfront presentation to advertisers at the Manhattan Center in New York. Among the biggest highlights of the slate were the return of Fox-turned-TBS-now-Fox-again animated series “American Dad!,” as well as Jane Lynch’s “Weakest Link” (moving over from NBC) and a reboot of “Fear Factor.”

Overall, Fox is adding six new series to its lineup over the next broadcast season, including one-hour comedy “Best Medicine,” dramatic thriller “Memory of a Killer,” multi-part scripted event “The Faithful,” and competition series “99 to Beat,” Lynch’s “Celebrity Weakest Link” and “Fear Factor: The Next Chapter” (working title). Fox will also air a new holiday special edition of Gordon Ramsay’s “Next Level Chef,” titled “Next Level Baker.”

“Celebrity Weakest Link” and “99 to Beat” will debut on the fall slate, while the other above-mentioned series will premiere in 2026, along with the...

Watch beloved family comedies for less than $20 per month
Image
This bundle will allow you to stream favorites like ‘Modern Family,’ ‘Home Improvement,’ and many more for only $19 per month.

One of the most relaxing ways to watch TV with the family is to stream shows that reflect the issues we all face in everyday life, but with a humorous slant. Family comedy shows can help remind us of the absurdity of life, and that the issues we face aren’t insurmountable, even if they are difficult. Besides, who doesn’t love a good laugh?

We at The Streamable certainly do, and with that in mind, we’ve put together a list of three streaming services that offer excellent family comedy titles that everyone in your household will enjoy. Best yet, this bundle comes in at a price of less than $20 per month!

Disney+ and Hulu

Is it cheating to put a bundle in your bundle? Does it really matter if you’re saving money?...

Fox Renews ‘Universal Basic Guys,’ ‘Grimsburg’ and ‘Krapopolis’
Image
Fox has greenlit more seasons of three of its adult animated series: “Universal Basic Guys,” “Grimsburg,” and “Krapopolis.”

“Grimsburg” and “Universal Basic Guys” are both returning for Season 3, while “Krapopolis” has been renewed for Season 5.

“Krapopolis,” which has received a Season 5 order ahead of Season 3, “is set in mythical ancient Greece and tells the story of a dysfunctional family of humans, gods and monsters trying to run one of the world’s first cities, while also trying their best to not kill each other in the process. The series centers on Deliria (Hannah Waddingham), goddess of self-destruction and questionable choices. As petty as she is powerful, Deliria is only interested in defending civilization if it means she’ll get more worshipers out of it than her frenemies up on Mt. Olympus,” according to the official description.

Richard Ayoade, Matt Berry, Pam Murphy and Duncan Trussell also star.

The show was created by Dan Harmon,...

‘Krapopolis,’ ‘Grimsburg’ and ‘Universal Basic Guys’ Extended at Fox
Image
Fox is further solidifying its animation lineup, handing out renewals to Krapopolis, Grimsburg and Universal Basic Guys.

The pickups will carry the three shows through the 2025-26 season — and in the case of Krapopolis and Universal Basic Guys, beyond that. The trio of shows, all animated by the Fox-owned Bento Box Entertainment, join the long-running quartet of Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy, The Simpsons and American Dad, which all received huge, four-season renewals in April. (American Dad is returning to Fox, where its first nine seasons aired, after a decade-plus on TBS.)

Krapopolis is set to wrap up its second season later this month. Created by Dan Harmon, the series is set in an ancient Greece where humans, gods and mythical creatures interact. It has received several early renewals in the past, and the latest pickup will take it through its fifth season.

‘Grimsburg’, ‘Krapopolis’ & ‘Universal Basic Guys’ Renewed At Fox
Image
Exclusive: Fox is continuing with its animation fix. The network has renewed three of its animated series — Grimsburg, Krapoplis and Universal Basic Guys.

This follows its bumper deal to renew long-running hits The Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers, as well as returning series American Dad, for four more seasons.

Grimsburg, which stars Jon Hamm, is returning for Season 3, Krapopolis returns for Season 5 and Universal Basic Guys is back for Season 3.

Grimsburg, which premiered in January 2024, centers on Marvin Flute (Hamm), who may be the greatest detective ever to catch a cannibal clown and correctly identify a mid-century modern armoire. But there’s one mystery he still can’t crack — himself. To do that he must return to Grimsburg, a town where everyone has a secret or three, and redeem himself in the eyes of his fellow detectives, his ferocious ex-wife and his lovably unstable son.

In the upcoming episode of “Bob’s Burgers,” titled “Mr. Fischoeder’s Opus,” Tina takes on an exciting new role as the advice columnist for her school newspaper. As she navigates the challenges of giving advice, it will be interesting to see how her unique perspective influences her peers. Tina’s quirky personality and sometimes awkward charm promise to bring plenty of laughs and heartfelt moments.

Meanwhile, Teddy finds himself in over his head when he volunteers to build a float for the Bounty of the Bay Parade. After Canceling 1 New Drama Series, Fox Renews 2 Popular Comedy Shows
Image
Two shows have been guaranteed to continue on Fox while another wasn't so lucky. Unfortunately for the latter, it's going to be a one-season run.

Per Deadline, Rescue Hi-Surf has been canceled after one season. The show, which follows Hawaiian lifeguards, wrapped up its first season on March 31. As the show was not a breakout success on the level of Doc, which was renewed for a 22-episode second season, the decision was made not to move forward with a second season.

It's an unfortunate update for fans of the show, especially as it debuted strong with a premiere that pulled in 4.7 million Live+Same Day viewers. According to the new report, there had still been consideration to renew the series, in part due to the involvement of producer John Wells. The producer's previous work includes titles like ER, The West Wing, and The Pitt. However, the series was also expensive...

'Animal Control' Has Its Fate Decided After Season 3
Image
Seattle's favorite Animal Control office won't be shutting down just yet. As expected, Fox has picked up its flagship live-action workplace comedy series starring Joel McHale for a fourth season, meaning more animal-based antics are to be had with Frank Shaw and his rag-tag team of fellow officers. The series has continued to be a hit both critically and in terms of ratings for the network, being sold to over 70 international territories and more than doubling its live + same-day ratings thanks to streaming on Hulu. It'll be back in time for the 2025-26 season, locking up Fox's comedy slate with the also-renewed Going Dutch.

Through three seasons, Animal Control has followed the jaded and cynical Frank (McHale) as he learns to embrace life as an animal control officer after being fired from the police force for trying to expose corruption in the department. Fortunately, he is almost supernaturally capable of understanding animals.

‘Animal Control’ and ‘Going Dutch’ Comedies Renewed at Fox
Image
Fox is keeping the live-action comedy lights on for 2025-26.

The network has renewed Animal Control and Going Dutch — the only two live-action comedies currently on its schedule — for next season. The pickups will mean a fourth season of Animal Control, starring Joel McHale, and a second for the Denis Leary-led Going Dutch.

“Animal Control and Going Dutch are proven winners thanks to signature Fox characters brought to life by Joel and Denis — two of the funniest comedic voices on TV today, giving us an ideal foundation for building our new comedy block,” Fox Television Network president Michael Thorn said in a statement. “With a focus on creating irreverent, fun workplace humor that’s both outrageous and unpredictable, Joel, Denis, their castmates and production teams deliver reliably laugh-out-loud moments week after week.”

The two series join long-running animated shows American Dad, Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy and The Simpsons — all...

‘Animal Control’ & ‘Going Dutch’ Renewed At Fox
Image
Fox is sticking with laughs. The network has renewed its two live-action comedy series Animal Control and Going Dutch.

Animal Control, which stars Joel McHale, is returning for a fourth season, while Going Dutch starring Denis Leary returns for its second. Both single-camera shows, which are owned by Fox, will return in the 2025-26 season.

The renewal of Animal Control is not a surprise; the show remains Fox’s live-action comedy flagship and was the network’s first fully owned live-action series to break out. In addition, it has sold the show in more 70 international territories including in the UK to Channel 4, in Australia to Foxtel and Binge, in Canada to CBC and in New Zealand to Tvnz.

The network said that with in-season streaming on Hulu, it more than doubles its Live+Same Day ratings.

Adult Swim Seems to Quietly Confirm Animated Show's Cancelation After 2 Seasons
Image
Adult Swim may have just quietly confirmed that its animated sitcom Teenage Euthanasia has been canceled. The series ran from 2021 to 2023.

Per ComicBook, the official Instagram page for Teenage Euthanasia has been updated, heavily hinting that the show will not continue on for a third season. "Like Trophy's heart, this show is dead," the bio reads, referring to one of the show's characters, Trophy Fantasy. The last post on the Teenage Euthanasia Instagram was in October 2023, and the recent change seems to indicate that no new episodes of the underrated sitcom will be on the way.

Teenage Euthanasia starred Maria Bamford as Trophy Fantasy, Jo Firestone as Euthanasia "Annie" Fantasy, Tim Robinson as Uncle Pete and Bebe Neuwirth as Baba. Set in the near future, the comedy series centers around the owners of the Tender Endings funeral home when Trophy's corpse is delivered to Euthanasia and is later revived as a sentient zombie.

Rescue Hi-Surf Can’t Beat This Wave: Fox Drama Canceled After One Season
Image
We’ve been shocked by sudden cancellations this season, but Fox may have just taken the cake.

According to Deadline, Rescue Hi-Surf has been canceled after its freshman season.

While the decision comes as a shock given that its numbers were pretty respectable for a show on the network, it seems the decision was more about money than anything else.

(Zach Dugan/Fox)

In recent years, new shows have featured one or two A-list leads as the draws, but it seems Fox wanted to get Rescue Hi-Surf off the ground, err, shore, within a strict budget.

When all was said and done, Rescue Hi-Surf Season 1 averaged 1.8 million viewers and a 0.22 rating among adults 18-49.

‘Rescue: Hi-Surf’ Canceled at Fox After One Season
Image
Fox has canceled its tropical drama “Rescue: Hi-Surf,” TheWrap has learned. The series will not be returning after airing one season on the broadcaster.

The drama was originally supposed to go to HBO Max before it was picked up by Fox for a fall 2024 air date. Season 1 concluded in late March of this year. Created by Matt Kester, the action-drama followed a team of lifeguards in the North Shore of O’ahu, Hawaii, which is known as the most famous and dangerous stretch of coastline in the world. Arielle Kebbel led the cast alongside Adam Demos, Robbie Magasiva, Kekoa Kekumano, Alex Aiono and Zoe Cipres.

In addition to creating the series, Kester served as an executive producer alongside co-showrunners John Wells and Daniel Nathanson. Erin Jontow also executive produced for John Wells Productions. “Rescue: Hi-Surf” was a co-production between Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment Studios.

News of the cancellation comes one week ahead of Fox’s presentation to advertisers at their annual upfront presentation in New York.

The official logline for “Rescue Hi-Surf” stated that it “follows the personal and professional lives of the heavy-water lifeguards who patrol and protect the North Shore of O’ahu—the most famous and dangerous stretch of coastline in the world. Network Scripted TV Scorecard 2025: What’s Renewed, Canceled and Still in Limbo
Image
After a rough few years in the broadcast landscape, the 2024-25 season has brought in some rays of hope.

To be sure, the long-term structural challenges for network TV remain in a world where streaming is the default platform for the largest share of viewers and ongoing corporate consolidation continues to shrink the number of potential suppliers (and buyers) of shows. But several network shows have achieved breakout status in the past year, and each of the big four broadcasters (ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC) can claim at least one success story among their crop of first-year series. The fact that networks are also the primary suppliers of the long-running, deep-library shows that keep streaming services humming also seems to have sunk in across the industry.

About that corporate consolidation: The past year has continued the trend of media company reorganization. Both Paramount and Disney closed studios (Paramount TV Studios...

David Cross Calls ‘Mr. Show’s Jay Johnston ‘A Lucky Traitor’
Image
Ever since comic actor Jay Johnston participated in the January 6th riots, his former comedy compatriots have kept relatively quiet. Bob’s Burgers co-star Kristen Schaal stopped the pretending on a recent episode of David Cross’s Senses Working Overtime podcast, asking the Mr. Show star about his old castmate: “What about Jay Johnston? Are you going to see him?”

She took a long sip of her coffee and batted her eyes, knowing she’d just thrown a grenade into the room.

Cross didn’t even know hooking up with Johnston was a possibility. “Oh, he’s out of prison?” Schaal scoffed — as far as she knew, Johnston never set foot in a jail cell.

If that was true, Cross observed, “What a lucky traitor.” But he had no intention of seeing his old Mr. Show partner. “I don’t even know where Jay is,” he confessed. “I don’t know...

We will update this article throughout the season, along with all our predictions, so make sure to keep checking IndieWire for the latest news from the 2025 Emmys race. The nomination round of voting takes place from June 12 to June 23, with the official Emmy nominations announced Tuesday, July 15. The State of the Race

The Outstanding Animated Program category serves as a great example of what the platonic ideal of Emmys voting is. It does not shy away from acknowledging when stalwart favorites remain good, but those who vote for the category have also been quick to recognize the different animation projects that drive the medium forward.

For example, the most recent...

This Is What The Simpsons’ Birth Years Would Be If the Show Was Set in 2025
Image
Have you ever watched The Simpsons and felt there was something missing? Bart shouting “Skibidi toilet!” every five minutes and taking a “fanum tax” of Homer’s Lard Lad donuts? Maggie transfixed by a Cocomelon-playing iPad? Marge hyping herself as having “did a thing” after preparing an avocado toast dinner for the entire family?

Not only are you insane — and spending way too much time on TikTok — but you may just be onto something: By today’s standards, Marge and Homer Simpson are technically Millennials, with their three kids clocking in as members of Gen Alpha.

Throughout The Simpsons’ three-and-a-half decades on the air, few Springfield residents have significantly aged, a fact we can attribute to the series’ floating timeline. Used in other shows like Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy and King of the Hill’s pre-time-jump seasons, this plot device is an animation staple, allowing The Simpsons to reference “MyPhones...

‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Unseats ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ As TV’s Wordiest Show
Image
Though The Sound and the Fury, Finnegans Wake and Ulysses may have long stumped scholars with their linguistic complexity, these classic texts may have finally met their match: the subtitles for Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Famed for its wit and meta attempts at addressing police brutality, the 2010s sitcom has gained yet another claim to fame nearly four years after its finale, boasting the most words per minute of any popular show available on streaming, per a new analysis from Kapwing. In calculating this statistic, content strategist Liam Curtis and his team “counted the number of subtitled words in up to 50 of the latest episodes of the most popular TV shows,” dividing those sums by the episode’s run time to determine a program’s average words per minute.

After crunching the numbers, the Fox/NBC sitcom landed at the top of the list, blowing away its competition at 206 words per minute.

Laura Linney set to take the stage with Kevin Kline & Jon Tenney for the MGM+ comedy series American Classic

The ultimate destination for adult animation is hiding in plain sight
Image
With hits from ‘The Simpsons’ to ‘Solar Opposites,’ Hulu has quietly built the strongest animated lineup on streaming.

Animated comedies are my comfort food. When life’s chaotic, there’s nothing better than sinking into the couch and putting on an episode of “The Simpsons.” That show has literally been around as long as I have, and it’s still going strong. Then came “Family Guy” about a decade later, and even though the tone is way different, it quickly earned a spot on my go-to list. Between those two, you’ve basically got the blueprint for modern animated comedy. And the best part? They’re both streaming on Hulu, along with a ridiculous number of other hits from FX and Fox. If animated sitcoms are your thing, there’s really no better place to stream. Here’s why Hulu’s the best of the bunch for streaming animated comedy TV shows.

From ‘Stranger Things’ to ‘Squid Game,’ these are Netflix’s greatest hits

A personal ranking of the most unforgettable series Netflix has ever dropped.

Netflix didn’t just change how we watch TV — it flipped the whole system on its head. Before streaming, networks called the shots, and shows came out once a week (with commercials). Then Netflix came along, dropped full seasons at once, and basically told Hollywood, “We’re doing it our way.” It worked. Suddenly, people were binge-watching, studios were scrambling, and everyone had to rethink what “TV” even meant. Now, Netflix is the big kid on the block, still setting the pace, still stacked with some of the best series of the last decade. They even brought commercials back (time is a circle)! So, here’s my list of the top 10 shows of all time on Netflix.

Top 10 all-time TV shows streaming on Netflix:

No. 10: ‘The Crown’

No. 9: ‘Dahmer – Monster’

No. 8: ‘BoJack Horseman’

No. 7: ‘Wednesday’

A Beloved The Simpsons Character Gets a New Voice Actor After 35 Years
Image
After 35 years, The Simpsons fans are about to hear a new voice coming out of schoolyard bully Jimbo Jones' mouth. Comedian Mo Collins has been announced as Pamela Hayden's replacement for the voice of the long-running character.

Per Entertainment Weekly, Collins will make her debut as the sixth-grade bully on the next episode of The Simpsons, "P.S. I Hate You," which is set to air on Fox on Sunday, April 13. While she is perhaps best known today for playing Pawnee newscaster Joan Callamezzo on Parks and Recreation and Sarah Rabinowitz on Fear the Walking Dead, Collins' breakthrough actually came back in 1998 when she joined the cast of MadTV. She went on to appear in over 150 episodes across her six-season run, portraying characters like Doreen and Lorraine Swanson as well as impressions of celebrities like Friends actor Courteney Cox, politician Hillary Clinton, singer Madonna, and socialite Paris Hilton.

Bob's Burgers is among the 3 Fox animated shows renewed for multiple seasons
Image
Fox finally came through with some renewals in early April 2025, and yes, it was all about the animated comedy lineup. There’s a reason it’s called Animation Domination, and it does help Fox secure viewership on Sundays when Sunday Night Football can take over.

Three of the current animated shows have been renewed. There was also the exciting news that American Dad! would make the move back to Fox after airing on TNT for a decade. It also scored the same multi-season renewal as the three comedies.

What joins Bob’s Burgers in the multi-season renewal on Fox?

Yes, Bob’s Burgers was one of the shows on the list. Despite the series being off the air right now, it has routinely performed well throughout the fall lineup. It has been disappointing waiting for it to come back, but it shows that Fox knows that the viewers will stick around.
