the movie is mixed to reaction.if you are looking for some old king khan film, with good story's do not go for Ra one . it lacks story the graphics and effects are outstanding and amazing,it takes us to Hollywood atmosphere.the train seen in this movie is outstanding as compared to robot.the acting of sharukh as the g.one is nice but other disappoints.the villain Arjuna ram pal is outstanding the direction is not bad also/the problem is that of its story line and copying of scenes from Hollywood movies.totally i can say that it is a good movie to watch especially for children.as compared to other Indian super hero movies like krrish, robot ,Ra-one is good.

    Warning: Spoilers
Investing your money and time in a sci-fi project itself requires a size-able amount of courage and kudos to Shah Rukh Khan to have trusted the script of Ra.One. We see viewers complaining about lack of international films in India n at the same time have no qualms criticizing the person who gave it a push. No hard feeling against the critics but Ra.One stands as the victory of Indian Cinema if you look at the visual effects in the film. The movie begins with game designer Shekhar (SRK) all set to match his son Prateik's expectations of being an ideal father. Sonia ( Kareena Kapoor ) is a passionate Mom but gets stuck between the father's efforts and son's demands. The film takes a turn when Shekhar strikes gold when he creates the virtual catastrophic demon Ra.One in his much anticipated game RA.ONE. The hell breaks loose when this catastrophic villain RA.ONE leaves the virtual world to enter the real world. Shekhar is found dead in his wrecked car thus his death is assumed to be a disastrous car accident. No one has slightest idea about Ra.One behind this calamity. Ra.One sets of to kill his son Prateik aka Lucifer. Now its upto the virtual superhero G.one ( Shah Rukh Khan) to save Prateik. Chammak Challo is Akon at its best. Bhare Naina makes you feel the soul and the emotion behind it. Raftarein gives you an urge to get up an shake a leg. The visual effects are eye poppers. You will find your heart beating really fast during the train sequence where G.one tries to stop an out- of-control train. The screenplay appears flawed at points but it can be well overlooked in front of the innovative concept and technology used in the film. Shah Rukh Khan with his magnum opus RA.ONE has proved himself to be the game changer of Bollywood.
  • The story isn't something that's totally unique, given many easily identifiable references from various science fiction films already done in the last five years or so, although in some ways most of these films all share common themes and attributes such as heroism, family relationships and the likes. But there were elements that are too close for comfort with what's already out there, and that takes some shine off being something original. For instance, James Cameron's Terminator 2: Judgment Day was almost like the guiding light for the emotional centre of the story, with an evil being capable of shape shifting making it its mission objective to go after and eliminate the boy, who is being protected by a weaker version of the digital lifeform programmed for good. And of course there's the mom character (Kareena Kapoor as Sonia) who together form a dysfunctional family nucleus, except that she's not packing any serious muscle, trading mean attitude for more feminine moves on the dance floor.

Then with the recent release of Real Steel, the father-son story arc cannot be more pronounced, and incorporating elements from Gamer, you have avatar control built into this universe complete with the necessity to play out a deadly game, now transpired into the real world. Then when RA.One and G.One got introduced by Shekhar, they each come with a HART device that Tony Stark will probably send his lawyers to order a stop to the manufacture of the full bodied console game for a breach of intellectual property. Elements from The Matrix trilogy provided inspiration for sentient programs in the virtual world aspiring and eventually making it to the real world, but without the deep philosophical leanings, and formed the initial look and feel for the villainous RA.One when Tom Wu took on the role in the beginning (rumoured that Jackie Chan rejected this, and hence the running joke in the movie) complete with shades and black trench coat, before Arjun Rampal took over for the second half.

What's unique though is the creation of the names of the digital characters for the film, and having it named after the villain instead, since Shekhar's son Prateek, aka Lucifer as his online handle, made no hesitation in telling his clumsy, nerdy father that villains are cool and heroes are so passe, that in an effort to reconnect with his son, Shekhar readily convinces his development team to create a villainous character the world has yet to see, and incorporating Indian mythology into it, such as RA.One sounding very much like Raavan (with its 10 heads a metaphor for the identities he can readily adopt and use), while the good guy equivalent becomes G.One, or Jeevan, meaning Life, and made in the likeness of its creator.

Which of course is what forms a heavy dramatic aspect of the story in establishing the father- son, or husband-wife arc when G.One takes it upon its programming to protect Prateek and his mom by extension when RA.One enters the real world to hunt him down and to complete their unfinished business in the online arena. This provides for plenty of emotional wrangling since G.One may look like Shekhar, but possesses none of the mannerisms nor the bad curly hair but blessed with flawless synthetic skin (ok, I wonder how much of the budget went into this facial), so much so that it provided opportunity for an extended song routine which had licensed Ben E. King's Stand By Me to hammer it all in. Shah Rukh Khan plays two roles here which is probably reminiscent of Endhiran, the Rajnikanth blockbuster which was billed as the most expensive Indian film until this one came along, both as the creator and the product, although the innocence of G.One was more similar to SRK's portrayal in My Name is Khan.

Comparisons with Endhiran are inevitable, from certain scenes such as major fisticuffs involving the girl telling the robotic being to renounce violence, and an action sequence involving an unstoppable train which did look more like a summary of Unstoppable instead. Then there's the child like, innocent nature of G.One that makes it quite like Chitti, but I guess to ensure some peace was made before the film was released, this film had the Superstar reprise his now famous role once more in a cameo that overtly acknowledges unabashedly just who is the number one superhero in India. And frankly, Chitti here doesn't do much other than to appear and show who's boss, and the minute he appears, the audience just goes wild, which I'm sure this rapturous response will be replicated elsewhere as well.

So familiarity aside, RA.One still contains some nifty action spruced up by visual effects, although it's average at best for its story given that major ring of familiarity to it, padded like any other Masala offering with cheeky moments, slapstick, and all round promoter of good family values no matter how jarring those well meaning messages may come across. It's not the blockbuster I would have expected in its lack of sophistication in story telling, but no doubt it will ride on the strength of its marketing blitz and SRK's star status to ensure that fans still turn up in droves for its opening weekend.
  • Warning: Spoilers
From the time that the credits roll on to the screen (Thanks to Shahenshah Amitabh, Superstar Rajnikanth and hugs to Sanjay Dutt & Priyanka Chopra), one gets the feeling that the movie is an indulgence in the exercise of 'I scratch your back and you scratch mine' and not the self proclaimed revolution in Hindi film making.

It is a confused mishmash of the same formulae that have been used in the Hindi film industry for all these years with some early 90s style Hollywood special effects thrown in. Somebody needs to tell the director Anubhav Sinha and the producer/actor Shah Rukh Khan that one cannot and should not try to please all the people in the audience, else the end result is exactly what they served: a movie that feels forced and stale

Story: By now, all who are remotely interested in this movie know about the story. It is the weakest link in the entire setup. The entire writer's union (even SRK has been credited with contributing to something that amounts to nothing) couldn't decide whether this needs to be a sci-fi, superhero, romance, children or an action flick. Some of the outstanding moments (scenes where I nearly stood outside the theater)are:

    1. A press conference at the start where the audience is dumb as it believes the crap that Ms. Reddy dishes out about technology

    2. The moment when the antagonist steps out of the game - no explanation on how the game developed an intelligence on its own or how it could move into the physical world in a suit that obviously does not have even a millionth of the processing power or storage capacity needed for such a complicated being to function

    3. The superhero's entry - again, no idea how it came into being in the physical world. And how the hell did Ms. Reddy (who seems more like a marketing executive) figure out what the lead game designer / team leader SRK could not

    4. How was Kareena able to keep her husband's death a secret from the neighbours in India? These days when even a burp is reported on the Facebook and/or Tweeted around the world, it seems highly unlikely

    5. Why the hell did the robot have to run along the side of the train when running on the top would have been the fastest way to the motorman's cabin?

Frankly, the entire story leaves a lot to be desired

Influences: 1. Poster inspired from Batman Begins 2. The story inspired from Judgement Day (robot saves mother and son from another robot), The Last Action Hero (characters from imaginary world stepping out into the real world), Tron (gaming world characters vs real world characters), Kalicharan (father dies, someone replaces him to protect family), Iron Man (the concept of H.A.R.T. is the same as the arc reactor), Millennium Man (a robot learning about emotions) 3. Scenes inspired from Spiderman series, Batman series, Terminator series, Iron Man series, Rajni's Robot, whew 4. The best moment in the film for me was when the film's shooting was at the factory featured on Pink Floyd's Animals'cover. The only issue is it didn't look half as beautiful

Acting: the less said the better

Overall: Watch at your own risk

SRK may have recovered his investment but he has to remember that he may fool some of the people all the time, all the people some of the time, but he can't fool all the people all the time with his over-the-top marketing gimmicks

P.S. the much vaunted Rajnikanth special appearance seems like its airbrushed on to the reel
  • THE GAG: Ra-One should have been released in the month of April. We could have laughed it off as a 'fools day' gag considering the content, the inflated ticket prices and non-stop TV branding. The average movie goer was fooled left, right and center..!

THE PLOT: Shekhar (Shahrukh Khan) is a video game developer who develops a game that has an unassailable villain so as to impress his villain fanatic son Prateek (Aman Verma).

THE MISSING PLOT: RA-ONE is the villain 'program prototype' in the game which goes on to assume the body of Arjun Rampal from an advertisement poster, in real life. How the villain character transforms into a real life super villain is beyond the average movie goer. RA-ONE , now transformed, is on a Prateek chasing spree, just because Prateek's good at video games. And remember this was not supposed to be a 'leave your brains at home' kind..!

POSITIVE CHARGE: The music needs a mention. It is catchy. The audience love the party dancing. G-ONE (who is the ever predictable counter measure of RA-ONE aka HERO ).

NEGATIVE CHARGE: The outcome of the movie is not convincing. SRK is not SFX material. His acting is his strength which lacked limelight.SFX took precedence in some parts. The script of Ra-One has more pot-holes than that on the streets of Bangalore. Kareena (Sonia) and Arjun(RaOne) lack screen space.

THE WAY AHEAD: There are no B-SCHOOLS in the world that cannot deny Shahrukh an honorary MBA. With the hype he generated for a 6 month period if not more has proved him an expert marketing tycoon. Will the audience be fooled again come DON-2..?? Time will tell. But surely, next time any form of promotional overdose will not work.

SEQUEAL SCENARIO: The movie ends with an invitation for a would be producer of a RA-ONE TWO. But I'am sure as hell that there will not be any sequels for this movie. Remember the 'super hero' audience is 'once bitten twice shy'..!
  • Warning: Spoilers
OK so 26Th RA.One released and although I had decided that there is no way that I'l watch this stupid movie, my friends were bored and they thought we should watch it(we realized later when we started watching that this was the part where we seriously went wrong!). So, anyway, we went and got ourselves some "jubilee" class tickets and started watching this unbelievably crappy movie.

The first half started and as it progressed it became, literally, the most boring, stupid and just plain "lame" thing I have ever seen in my life in a movie. SRK plays head of technical department of a gaming company that desperate to come up with a good game release, he has a son who has a really BAD hairdo and likes playing games but hates superheroes and loves villains. SRK is seen struggling with getting attention of his kid who tells SRK that he likes villains and that his father should make a game in which the villain will never lose. Amazingly (I think this is the part where the movie just goes insanely dumb and lame) he creates such a game in ONE DAY and guess what the game characters then come to life out of thin air without any SOUND explanations(yeah!!I know-->WDF!!)!After that every damn stupid thing that happens is predictable and anyways the story is so lame that I don't even want to talk about it cause just thinking about the stupid story pisses me off! Seriously at one point I was so angry, frustrated and irritated I just wanted to rip off my buddy's head who's idea it was to watch this *beep *beep*beep movie. I felt as if I was being punished by the so called 'King khan' for some mistake I didn't do. If you know some people you seriously hate, I would suggest you gift them tickets to 'RA.1'!

You'll hear some people say that the effects are good and that "oh no Bollywood movie has done such effects". Well, let me inform everyone who shares this same view that nobody is saying that the effects were bad but what about everything else, Raone has a really predictable and weak storyline and the dialogues and acting is just dump.

I dare any normal person to see 3-4 shows of the movie non-stop and LIVE to tell the tale...yeah!! its THAT BAD!

Seriously, If you are a die hard fan of SRK and don't really give ANY importance to story OR dialogues OR acting OR editing OR screenplay, go see it today! But in case if you are a NORMAL sane Human Being like me then Do NOT waste your money, I did the mistake and I want everyone to make a better choice of NOT going to this movie. It (mark my words) is a complete waste of your time and money.
  • There was a SMS joke doing the rounds after this movie released - "Entry to Ra.One is free, but for early exit one has to pay Rs.500/-, That's how Ra.One made all the money!"

That SMS I would say sums all of it. Watch at your own risk.

Most of the storyline is a hotchpotch of various movies from Hollywood. Including iron man, mr.beans, spidy and so on.

Though it was earlier meant for kids, there are vulgar jokes, scenes and dialogues that make it unsuitable for kids.

SRK has thrown in all masala thinking of targeting all audience segments, and has therefore been unable to please anyone.
  • It takes a lot of courage to put your money and time behind a story and bring it to the screen. But does it? I have seen many a flick in probably every genre (except perhaps horror), but this movie takes the cake for the worst sci-fi movie ever made.

The film starts off with a lewd and disgusting imitation of south Indians by Shah Rukh Khan. Not only is his acting (or should I say lack of it) hideous, it is insulting and revolting.

This movie is the strongest evidence that people still judge a book by its cover. From the ludicrous display of women as toys for sex, to the abysmal and down right disgusting show of cheap and ill conceived comedy, this movie is a hallmark of errors that needn't be made by film makers.

Shah Rukh Khan in his various avatars during this movie shows that all you need to SELL a movie is sex, regionalism, an extremely popular star cast and an international music artist (yeah Akon, I'm talking about you).

With a plot that you could summarise in less than ten words, and acting that would make a 1 year old seem a worthy Oscar performer, this movie could not have been more worse.

The word disappointing doesn't even begin to show the worth of this movie. It was so bad, I wouldn't even watch a pirated copy.

I wish there was a minus rating available here. Alas!
  • VFX game was strong and it was ahead of Aadipurush.

Best Superhero movie of All time and Thanks to Srk for bringing this Technology to India.

No movie can beat this one in terms of VFX when it comes to Ra. One.

    All Time watchable.

This movie deserves more love and support and Srk and Arjun Rampal have nailed their Characters.

Loved it and watched it in theatres my Rating 10/10.

Superhero movies in India will come and go but no one has ever made a this type of Bad-ass Superhero movie like Ra. One in Bollywood.

Ra. One in Terms of VFX in 2011 Will always be tha best Sci-fi movie all time.

Who says dreams cannot be realized? All it takes is a strong will to turn a dream into reality! For some, it may take an entire lifetime to actualize a dream while others live a life which is a dream in itself. SRK's Tinseltown dream refuses to die down, and on the contrary becomes more grandiloquent with time. He had come to the city of dreams a couple of decades back as a pauper with only one thing in his kitty, the only thing that mattered: self-belief. It is said that life, unlike death, is a trickster and only those who have the heart of a lion and the mind of a fox can survive its onslaught. And those who do manage to come out victorious become its true masters and make it dance to their tunes, perpetually. Today, 'SRK' is not merely a name; it's a brand, a marketing phenomenon in itself. SRK's perennial charm is a testament to his grit and gumption. RA.One is a walking talking example of SRK's sway in Show Business. Who else could think of making such a bizarre manifestation work in his favor, but the Baazigar himself? Now, please don't get me wrong, I am not saying that RA.One is bizarre in cinematic parlance, but given the general trend in Indian cinema that the concept of the movie seems futuristic. When it comes to entertainment, we Indians are still not very comfortable with experimentation. The romance of Raj-Simran, the razzmatazz of Munni-Shiela, and the Desi villainy of Gabbar-Shakaal is still dearer to us than the clairvoyance or daredevilry of some larger than life super hero. Despite all the odds, SRK endorsed the idea of manifesting a virtual world superhero on the celluloid, putting everything at stake, including his hard-earned reputation of an entertainer par-excellence. Will the gamble pay off? Well, that is for the time to decide! All I can say at this point of time is that RA.One has all the makings of a Blockbuster—already being opened to packed theaters on the Diwali Day—as everything seems so conducive: an interesting plot, great cast, festive season, and blessings of Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth.

RA.One is a technical marvel and has set a new bar for Indian Cinema. The movie's CGI and special-effects are absolutely top-notch and are undoubtedly its USP. It projects the concept of gaming and virtual world for the first time in Indian Cinema. The one movie that it would often be compared with is Tron Legacy. However, apart from some similarities in the plot, RA.One is quite different, primarily because of its emotional perspective and relative simplicity in concept. RA.One re-stylizes the epic battle of 'Good' versus 'Evil' by adding to it certain dimensions that are still new to Indian Cinema. RA.One is pure entertainment from beginning till end. Despite being a Science Fiction, RA.One manages to portray with precision the pain associated with the Father-Son relationship. RA.One, despite taking obvious inspiration from avant-garde Sci-Fi movies like The Matrix, manages to maintain a certain level of originality, credit for which goes to director Anubhav Sinha. The movie has subtle undercurrents of humor—like in the names of three female antagonists, 'Iski Lee', 'Uski Lee' and 'Sabki Lee'—that add great flavor to the movie.

SRK shines in his new South Indian avatar, Shekhar Subramanium, who is similar to real life SRK in many ways: he shares SRK's sense of light- heartedness and childlike demeanor – albeit without the characteristic cheekiness. The plot of RA.One is based on the premise that children tend to have a stronger liking for villains than heroes, for villains are kick-ass and can afford to flout rules and defy limits. Shekhar works as a video game developer for Barron Industries. He is disconcerted by his son's lack of respect for him. In order to impress his son, he devises a game in which the villain is stronger than the hero. He names the game as RA.One , same as the name of the villain. The hero, who inherits Shekhar's looks, is named G.One. Due to some unforeseen effect of an artificial intelligence program developed at Barron Industries, RA.One immensely gains in power and develops a sense of self-control that defies the game's protocols. What ensues is a 'do or die' battle between the two 'Ones' in the Real World, the outcome of which would decide the fate of humans in contention. Kareena Kapoor fits well in the shoes of a 'chammak challo' (glamorous) housewife and complements SRK effectively. Arjun Rampal as 'RA.One' is terribly underused in the movie. Armaan Verma, the child actor who plays SRK's son, acts his part with amazing conviction.

Despite the elaborate efforts of the makers to explain the implausible Sci-Fi elements, an average viewer is ought to be perplexed by its intricacies. It is for such instances in Fiction that English poet S. T Coleridge had introduced 'Suspension of Disbelief', according to which, a viewer or a reader takes a semi-conscious decision to put aside his disbelief in order to accept the premise for the sake of his own amusement.

The one aspect that I am critical of RA.One is that, like most contemporary movies, it too fails to make the viewer think. Cinema, with its enormous potential, can inspire even the greatest pessimist and help reshape a nation. Alas, it is reduced to a revenue generating instrument by a bunch of self-centered, myopic individuals, whose sole aim is monetary profit! It is said that those who have the courage also have the responsibility to bring about a change; someone of SRK's influence is not expected to overlook this growing aberration in commercial cinema, but unfortunately he too is following the suite.

Overall, RA.One, despite its obvious shortcomings, is a great piece of entertainment and a worthy addition to the commercial Indian cinema mix. RA.One is an instant hit among children of all age-groups, while also an interesting experience for the adults. 7/10

Shahrukh can't be this wrong ,this is a team effort.Story is fresh but we didn't had time, budget & courage to portray it,because we have to spend our resources on stupid exposing songs ,right ? The amount spent in the publicity could have been used to convince at least few of many illogical points. At least one shouldn't be wrong in basic laws of physics, electro magnetics, transmission etc, forget about robotics(hilarious). I didn't liked Rajnikant's Robo either, but it at least tried to show the underlying technology behind 'chitti' and acting of Rajnikant as a robot convince you at some point. The movie is not even close to any Hollywood sci-fi.Sorry team, making good chase sequences and lucid fights doesn't make it Hollywood standard.Accept it, its a complete desi movie, with regular songs, romance andfights(useless).Even the dialogues are so poor that you end up looking your neighbours and not to forget the unconvincing climax.

The EFX team has done a good job.Not the best though.I must say stunt master of this movie need to be applauded. The starting chase sequence and pre-climax train sequences are beyond expectation.I must say this train sequence is better than ROBO.

I wonder how almost all multiplexes are playing 90% of their shows. Its total monopoly. With these many shows any movie can get its share within two days. Believe it or not. I'm a big shahrukh fan.I always watch his movies on first day.I went for 'Swadesh' thrice,'Chak-de' twice.Compare to these, this is complete deal breaker.

One last point. This is basically a children's movie. It gets clean 'U' certificate, that means no vulgarity and wild actions. But i found few scenes offensive. This may be cool with urban kids but in most part of the country parents will be uncomfortable to watch with their kids.I hope i made my point.

Shahrukh Sir, i understand the hard work and efforts behind this project, but it seems to me a personal movie,as if you made this for your son.I guess you will realise soon.

Sorry Lord 'Rama',i could have celebrated your victory rather than watching this. You warned us about Raavan before(Ra-One).
  • Sorry srk to not recognised your true effort. One of the best VFX till date. SRK is way ahead of time. In 2011 no one prepared for this kind of awesome VFX. Honestly I appreciate this movie after watch in theatre. If this movie release in 2022 then it will be blockbuster. Story was awesome and VFX steal the show. Arjun rampal done a fabulous job. Waiting for Ra-one 2. Songs are awesome and Kareena Kapoor's charm in chamak challo steal my heart. Let's hope that people understand the what is true VFX in Indian movies. Brahmastra take 10years but srk made Ra-one in copule of years. Love you srk and waiting for your next part.
  • Warning: Spoilers
It's RA. One craze all over the nation. Since the poster released (6-7 months earlier), everyone was eager about the movie as King 'SRK' Khan is gonna be back after 1.5 years. Expectations is not a factor to discuss anymore. You can see a long queue in front of multiplexes and single screens just to book this SRK flick. SRK announced that this movie is mainly for kids, but parents are not ready to seriously listen to it. From Kids to senior citizens - everyone is same eager to experience RA. One.

Apart all, huge money (nearly 175 crores) is involved in this supernatural flick. The trailers can easily indicate how high-class & modern technology is used in the movie. The visual special effects can easily compete to any English action flick or sci-fi. If Kids & Adults loved our previous supernatural flicks like "KRRISH", "ROBOT", then they are ought to fall in deep love with "RA. One".

Shekhar (Shah Rukh Khan), a father trying hard to 'fit-in' in his Son Prateek's (Armaan Verma) badass world- A son ... is trying hard to 'dude-up' his dad from 'aiiiyyyo' to 'YO!' And Sonia (Kareena Kapoor), a mother lost in translation between her husband's 'ingeva' and her son's 'Inn'it!' Finally, Shekhar strike gold when he designs one hell of a Game. But finally, the Game Crashes & instead of being played, The Game starts playing everything else. RA. One(Arjun Rampal) - The Next Level.

As we can see, the story has a newness in it & is complete ideal for a supernatural sci-fi flick. This type of storyline can only work in a jaw-dropper visual treat that should not show even a bit of mercy in visual effects. Here is the main reason why RA. One works for a big time.

The Music of the movie lives up very much and does justice to the movie. "Chammak Challo" is already a fav to many listeners and is still intact for a long time. "Dildaara" is my personal favorite. But "Criminal", "Bhare Naina" also works well. "Raftaarein" was skillfully used in the background. Vishal-Shekhar's Background music works well yet again after "Taxi No. 9211" and "Bluffmaster". V Manikanandan's cinematography was over the top. It was a tough thing to do in a sci-fi like RA. One but he does much justice to it. Sanjay Sharma's editing was perfect. Andy Gill, Parvez Khan, Spiro Razatos and Firoz Boss - these four men steal the show by Action direction filled with amazing stunts and chases. Dialogues by Kanika Dhillon and Niranjan Iyengar were top notch (Just the dialogues SRK loves to recite - "Ladai Goliyon Se Nahi Dil Se Jeeti Jati Hain"). Costumes by Manish Malhotra were fabulous. What is new to say about the best one in the business? But from sources I came to know that the suits of RA. One & G. One are designed by Robert Kurtzman (The famous man from "Austin Powers in Goldmember", "Bad Boyz : II", "Spy Kids"). One can easily say G. One & RA. One's suits are almost same like the suits of "Spy Kids". anyway, who cares if our SRK & Arjun Rampal looks cool in it? Anubhav Sinha, the director himself sits to write the movie himself and it seems that he has taken the idea from many Hollywood Action flicks. But still, it takes courage to introduce the new idea in Bollywood. Anubhav Sinha, Mushtaq Sheikh & Kanika Dhillon unitedly wrote the script of the movie which besides, having a feeling of inspiration from Hollywood flicks has much Desi factors that can only fit in an Indian top-class movie. From Introduction to Conclusion, RA. One is a movie that has every ingredient perfectly studded in it.

Nothing new to say about Shah Rukh Khan, he is a perfectionist always where acting comes. Unlike all other romantic flicks he had delivered, this was a different character - Father-cum-Scientist-cum-Superhero. SRK did Shekhar & G. One both so well, that i seemed this role was nothing so challenging to him. We see, a brand new Kareena Kapoor, the 'mom' who is maximum time staying with a 'pissed' attitude. But Kareena has earlier claimed that people will remember her for RA. One. And frankly speaking, surely they will. Armaan Verma is blessed with many quantities that a important character in a movie should have. Shahana Goswami as Jenny was commendable. Satish Shah, as Iyer, a total nonsense person & a troubling neighbor stole some moments. Others like Dalip Tahil, Satish Shah, Suresh Menon, Mushtaq Shiekh and Tom Wu were very obedient in their roles. Sanjay Dutt & Priyanka Chopra's special appearance were a distraction towards something new in the running movie. SRK tweeted that "Rajini Sir Blessed RA. One..." & folks, so he did. Rajinikanth was tremendous in his damn good guest appearance.

Most probably after GHAJINI, this is the second time when a Bollywood movie is titled by its villain's name. So, it was very important for a villain to live up with such respect given. Here comes Arjun Rampal, the show stealer, RA. One. His excellently designed look, suits and mighty powers he was given helped him very much to bring out the evil in himself. I would declare RA. One Arjun's best performance till date.

Finally, From Introduction to Conclusion, RA. One is a movie that has every ingredient perfectly stashed in it. The main fact is it is very courageous to live up with humongous expectations of people & not let them down a bit and RA. One skillfully does that. In short, RA. One is a kick-ass entertainer with never-seen-before visual effects. A Must Must Must Watch in this festive season. Go, have a blast. Kaboom!
  • Warning: Spoilers
Before reading any further please note that unlike Taran Adarsh & many others, I didn't get paid by SRK. If you are a SRK fanatic, read no further.

Before intermission, Kareena utters the best dialogue in the entire movie, 'Kya RA.One, Kya G.One! Mujhe kuch samajh nahi aa raha!!'. Well she spoke for everyone in the cinema hall! After all the crazy marketing & hype by SRK, the movie turned out to be DUD! The movie has a weak story, screenplay and was supported by even a weaker performance by most of the cast. 'Twas like watching a daily serial on TV. One can guess what will happen at the end which is like 10,000 episodes from now but still one would watch it everyday just for the heck of it! Well that is how I felt watching Ra.One.

Visual EFX: Amazing!! Though you see heavy influences from Video games like Mortal Kombat and movies like Matrix and Terminator, I still see it as the biggest strength of the movie. 3D was alright. Looks like it was hurriedly done.

Stunts: RA.One and G.one are like Iron Man, Spider Man and Robots from Real Steal movie all combined into one. Some stunts were good but most weren't. Almost every single action sequence has been lifted from Mortal Kombat. But I was disappointed with the climax fight. A BIG LET DOWN!

South India Killed: "Ayyo" is all you get to hear from SRK during the first half of the movie. SRK struggles with his Tamil big time and he is a tamilian in the movie?!?! Whoa! Mixing curd with noodles and taking long coffee breaks is his depiction of a South Indian guy? Great! Chammak Challo - great song but the situation of the song is so wrong. I never knew South Indian women dress the way Kareena & the background dancers have dressed in the song! Well may be in a South Indian adult movie YES :P

RajiniKanth - Plays a minuscule role and I don't now why he decided to do it. Horrible wig and make up. I couldn't believe if it was Rajinikant for real. Again the storyline around him is SO WEAK. I seriously don't understand how this movie is a tribute to him. Another marketing gimmick by SRK I guess.

Overall: RA.One didn't quite work for me... it wasn't boring but at the same time, there was nothing interesting to keep me glued to my seat either, no nail-biting moments, power packed action sequences.. instead we got a heavy dose of Karan Johar's sentiments, emotions, KKHH, Karwa Chauth etc! I am sure the movie will be fun to watch for kids and SRK would make his money at the box office but I don't wanna torture Any.One by recommending them to watch RA.One

SRK is a genius. At conman ship!

He's single-handedly taken a mega-crap garbage of a movie and turned into a must-see event. Now if that isn't genius what is? I think he said no to Shankar and yes to Anubhav Sinha is simply because he couldn't control Shankar but would be able to control Anubhav Sinha. A talentless soul who's only made sub-par crap reaching rock bottom in crappiness by making Cash. And flop-master Anubhav jumped up with joy and couldn't believe his luck that he was getting a 150 crore budget and India's biggest superstar after the disaster like Cash. It's just an example that God doesn't condemn anyone.

The movie or the pathetic example of a grotesque cinematic experience :-

    1. G.One. The video game character actually smiles, sings and dances. Stupidity.

    2. Ra.One. The villain doesn't want to dominate the world. He just wants to kill a silly annoying kid. Did the makers stop to think that the audience would actually support the villain on this one?

    3. No explanation for anything. If it's SRK kuch bhi chalta hain.

    4. Action scenes look they are directed by someone else. Not a good sign for Mr.Sinha. If only the rest of the movie had been directed by competent people.

    5. Bad background score. For e.g. - the intro of G.One. We don't even realize the hero has arrived. Basic superhero movie 101. I guess it's too much to expect from morons.

The list could go on and on but I'm just too tired and don't want to relive the experience.

But the biggest people to blame are the stupid Indian audience. They'll turn up in droves like marionettes to watch something as bad as this if there's a star. But let quality movies go a begging.

Wonder why don't theaters just play slideshows of still pictures of movie stars in theaters. That should be enough.

I've nothing against movie stars, but only against talentless people being given the reigns to make movies and the result being presented as something worthwhile.

Shame on you Mr.Khan. I really like you and your movies but this one was below the belt.

I mean you cheated your fans. Your real fans that is.

With 52 crores being spent for promotion Ra one is being touted as a breakthrough Indian superhero movie. But apart from the promotion nothing has been done right by the film makers. The culprits 1- A very weak script. The main good super hero(G One), bad super villain(Ra One)is standard like all superhero movies. But the subplots are extremely weak. And at times pathetic and not needed. G One is robot/computer program machine. There are issues related to him not understanding human emotions and then at times he gets too touchy which makes no sense. Kareena Kapoor on the other hand is not human. Sometimes upset that her husband is dead and the very next second she is dancing to "Chammak Challo". There are some attempted comedy element tried to put in between the movie from time to time which are poor. **The scene when Shahruk and his son get mugged by dwarf guy is embarrassing. That time the movie hall was in pin drop silence. As confused as the script writer. 2)Cheap humor-The only audience that might find this movie decent would be age 5-10 years. Sadly this movie has messed up for even them. The culprit the not needed, cheap adult humor. A scene where G-one tries to grab kareena's boobs, which for some reason comes in between and action scene. Then there is a scene when G one is holding the Ra one's crotch for a painfully long time. One wonders what Shahruk was thinking during the filming. Another one in which G one holding a packet of condoms and telling Kareena that they would improve her mood. Really????? Does he really expect us to laugh at this. 3) Misdirected Special effects - The special effects are of high quality. But with weak plots and too many effects on a single event. The whole thing gets diluted and excruciating to watch. The train chase is all about Shahrukh twisting and turning. The special effects are shown from every possible angle and with the amount of time spent one wonders how long is the train which G one is scaling. There is a fight sequence when some ruffians come at the standard bollywood - one at a time sequence and keep getting bashed up by a football. After 5 minutes it gets on your nerves and Rajni's entry after 15min of that torture adds to the pain. I guess only die hard Rajni fans could tolerate it. 4)Horrible acting. Shahruk should hang up his boots after this.He looked amateur in front of the kid actor. Kareena cannot act. And please don't make her a mom.She only looks comfortable as a bimbo. The attempted pseudo west lingo of "Dude" and "kick ass" is stupid. They are extinct in the west and too old even for India. And last but not the least among the several low points in this movie there is also a racist comment by Ra One "I hate Chinese".

First of all my review got some attention by people , i guess who have seen this movie Ra.one and didn't like it(which is true) and they liked my review(Review was written on 26 october,2011) but because of some die hard SRK fans reported my review by saying ,i used some abuses words so i send an e-mail again and again to IMDb site till they notice this and when it happened then i asked them , can they tell me where i have written abuse , so they looked at it and didn't find anything so they allowed me to write the same review again and i am pasting it again ! I guess this can easily prove the level of SRK'S FANS.

REVIEW:- Cant believe of extremely high IMDb reviews!!!!

This movie is really bad , VERY WEAK STORY nothing new, if you watched Hollywood Superhero flicks don't watch this you are going to get BORED And this is not the main reason. The main REASON is this movie is just for 6 year old kids.Even the boys who are saying this movie is really good or awesome are fans of Shahrukh, who just like watching his movies whether he bring Om Shanti Om too, and I bet these Shahrukh fans cant even find a difference between Chak De India(Awesome) and Rab Ne Banadi Jodi(disaster).

Talking about acting , we all know how much Shahrukh Khan is talented but he is totally wasted in this movie , you never going to remember this Shahrukh who played g.one in upcoming days . For Kareena ,oh lord!! there is no difference between her and Katrina Kaif (beauties without acting) which i never expect from Kareena, who proved herself with the movies like jab we met and Kurbaan . Arjun, he did a decent job which i was expecting from him . And i don't want to say anything about that kid who played Srks son he was awful .You will find very talented kids rather then this one whose hairs more heavy then his weight !!! Story---There is a father (SRK) whose son loves BAD GUY more then hero in games. So Srk designed game and from there a big evil came out(only Shahrukh knows how). After that typical Bollwyood story(and even worst then that ).

There are so many errors in the movie that you will stop even counting at one stage, believe me don't watch you are seriously going to waste your money and 2 and half hours of your life.

Don't believe in critics(4 and half stars) ,this is just a publicity stunt. All the critics are highly paid in India after watching RA.one i can bet that. There is no doubt this movie is going to earn lots of money due to highly over-rated publicity done by SRK , but then also this movie cant stand in front of Real critical acclaim movies like Rang De Basanti, A Wednesday and 3 IDIOTS , can only stand in front of big dumb movies like Om Shanti OM , Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna etc.

Worst movie i have ever seen on the name of movie , so forget science fiction in it .1/10(only for Arjun Rampal).

*VERY VERY WEAK and Hope the international audience wont judge Indian Cinema by this high-budget mediocrity.

There are so many bad words and disgusting feeling to write here..... This movie is full of idiotic sequences and good animation only. Lack of sense and an unwilling, impossible truth which is marked as "The different cinema". Movie starts with a game and the child wants his dad to create a super villain for the game.

SRK the dad of this kid creates RA-one to cheer his son and apparently creates the hero G-one...

Without any clue, RA-one comes out of the game. Question arises "How is it possible that a game character can come out of game screen?" He/it what to call him I don't know because it appears that it is robot but talks like human. Same thing happens to G-one, it loves kareena but I don't know it is robot or he is man? What the hell?. If he smokes, he coughs but if he grabs the "main point", "Ra-One" asks "What are you doing G-one"? Not only this, nut animation of train engine out of damaged CST station is total animated and no feeling of reality. The dialogs are stupidest in the whole world.... SRK acts like a lover boy instead a game character....

I fell asleep and asked my friend to wake me up when the movie is over...

Bloody hell, nothing good. I f you want to go for special effects, you better go and play games like Bioshock, Tekken 6 and all.

Never watch this stupid 3 hours crap...

I am usually not a big fan of Hindi mainstream movies, and so had not planned to watch Ra One. But free tickets and some pressure from friends, I ended up going. I went expecting a bad movie, but decided I will enjoy some mindless action, perhaps good special effects and check out Kareena in that sexy red sari in Chammak Challo. But right from the outset I realized that this movie will not meet even my very low standards! SRK doing a Tamil nerd impression is painful to watch, the 'aiyyo' and eating noodles with curds by hand, are jokes that only a six year old would find funny. Not only is there no story, there isn't even an attempt to have a story. The special effects are a yawn (as one reviewer has said, nothing you wouldn't have seen in umpteen Hollywood movies, actually even on HBO!) and the sci-fi explanations (Ra One and G One coming to life are not even explained!) are lame. There are utterly ridiculous and pointless fights, like outside the airport, which go on forever. The song sequences make no sense, even for a Hindi movie, where usually the trick is to use a dream sequence. There are no other characters in the movie, other than a pointless and very unfunny Satish Shah. The finale is boring, predictable and pointless. Oh and the kid is annoying (typical NRI brat types, who of course has the computer skills of 10 top hackers in the world put together, utterly unbelievable). Only, and I mean only, 5 minutes in the film that entertain is the Chammak Challo song.
  • You don't like Ra. One. Big deal. I love it. It is one of the few movies including Darr, Baazigar, Don, MNIK, Asoka where you will see an amalgamation of two cultures of film making -the east and the west. If Spy kids and Tron are ignored, Virtuosity is the only movie which has a virtual character played by Russell Crowe. And since the characters in the game in Ra. One were self-aware and adaptive owing to the artificial intelligence, the robot plus humanoid acting was to the point. Thesis on cuss words which are actually based on women and their body parts is actually progressive. The sense of humour like crotch jokes is similar to Deadpool. Also a video game character being a superhero is an original origin story which none of DC and Marvel has. The fight scenes are also quite original, and uses mutliple bullet time shots as in Matrix which is justified here and also the end with ten RaOne's is a nod to the mythology where the demon Raavan had 10 heads. The technology is actually possible because of research in Internet of things, Artificial Intelligence and Virtual and Augmented Reality concepts. For example Google VR and Pokémon Go respectively. Also it has original special effects of cube formation and blasts which are different from IronMan but closer to Dragon Ball. In fact similar special effects are used in The Amazing Spiderman 2 where the character Electro is nothing like in the comics. Adam Sandler's Pixels basically ripped off the concept of Ra. One although it may have been an idea formed out of Wreck it Ralph. The message is quite wonderful because considering the attraction and indifference of kids towards violence in games, movies, TV shows and bad-ass characters is alarming.

What exactly will you accomplish from all the technical jargon, anyway? For example, Matrix Trilogy. Did you even understand what was actually going on? Did you understand a word of the great speech by the Architect in the third installment? Have you done a course on Artificial intelligence and Virtual Reality? How come the AI in Ex Machina starts thinking for herself? How did the robot and the AI in I,Robot acquire intelligence of their own? What is the concept of Skynet from Terminator series? Did you actually believe a radioactive spider can change your DNA and give you superpowers? Do you actually believe a more eligible human like Batman can battle demi gods like Darkseid, Superman, Doomsday? What the hell is wrong with people? Have you watched any episode of the anthology series Black Mirror? Each episode has a futuristic technology that impacts people's lives. That's the sort of futuristic advanced virtual reality and artificial intelligence system of Ra. One the game and it is set in the universe in which people can handle such physically demanding games. Barron Industries isn't even real. It may soon become a reality. The concept of virtual reality is not preposterous. It exists. With recent games like Pokemon. But Ra. One takes virtual reality to another level. There was no explanation needed. Anyway any scope for explanation vanishes with the death of Shekkhar. But the movie is open-ended so they might say something in the sequel whenever it is made. Ra. One is much smarter than its Krrish 3, Enthiraan, Shiva ka Insaaf, Drona, Toofan, Flying jatt, Super singh, Zokomon Mr. X counterparts. Only Shehenshah, Krrish, and Mr. India are good. The mythology poem thing is very apt since it connects the modern technology to our roots. It also manages to give a new look to Raavana and his ten-headed persona whose weakness was his navel. That's what Lord Ram does. One arrow to the navel and bam. It's over. If you were expecting cartoony destruction like in Enthiraan's climax or mindless detruction like in Avengers, then it is only your fault. The CST destruction scene is more realistic than entire Enthiraan movie lol. And remember, once you sell your soul to the devil, his shadow will forever linger on you. Much better message than most mindless Marvel movies except the lovely Spiderman trilogy. :)

Powers of G. One: 1) Invulnerability and invincibility to any real- world physical object/person owing to the not-here-not-there existence of G. One in the real world.

2)Regeneration abilities(like Piccolo from Dragon Ball) because G. One is made up of digital cubes/pixels that appear as physical objects in the real world. This is possible due to the concentration of rays containing data of G. One

    3)Levitation(Hancock)

    4)High jumps(Hulk)

    5)Martial arts(Programmed)

6)Shoot energy balls(dynamic data generated by static data which is G.one) like in Dragon Ball

    7)Mind-control

    8)Super-strength

9)Advanced AI that adapts itself with human behavior.

    10)H. A. R. T

    11) Neglection of real-world physics.

Weaknesses: 1)Needs to be charged with electricity(Called lifelines in video games, if you have played one)

2)Only vulnerable to a single bullet that only Ra. One can shoot in the third level. Else G. One can get defeated in earlier levels if his energy level(lifelines) is depleted.

    3)H. A. R. T.

I've often heard people say, film-making is nothing short of a gamble. And as any gambler will tell you, you've got to gamble huge to triumph huge. Going by this logic, Shah Rukh Khan is The Supreme Gambler of the year.

What's at stake, beside the big money invested in RA.ONE of course, is a dream, a vision, an aspiration to make a film which appeals to kids and kids at heart. In short, attempt a film that appeals to the universal audience. At the same time, it ought to raise the bar for Hindi films. Also at stake is SRK's once-unchallenged supremacy as the reigning idol of Bollywood and that elusive thing called reputation. When you invest your repute in your dream project and stick your neck out, you expect nothing short of a mega-success.

Movies like KRRISH and ROBOT initiated the trend of superhero films in India, with fantasy making deep inroads into mainstream Hindi cinema. Now RA.ONE raises the bar, takes not a step or two, but a giant leap and adheres to international standards, in terms of execution. But the soul, I wish to add, is very Desi. That's precisely the reason why RA.ONE emerges trumps. RA.ONE is beauty (read good looking film) with brains (read content).

RA.ONE is the most ambitious, most expensive and the most technologically complex Hindi film ever made. It pushes the envelope further. It's not merely a film, but an experience, an event. It's a film that will rewrite the textbook of computer graphics in Hindi cinema. At the same time, it is very Indian at heart. The relationship between SRK and the kid is the highpoint of the enterprise. But, at the same time, there are ample clap-trap moments that will send the viewers in frenzy. The chase sequence, when Ra.One finally zeroes on Lucifer, and the subsequent 'entry' of the superhero is awe-inspiring. The train sequence in the second hour is exceptional and a cinematic feat. The presence of Rajnikanth in a crucial sequence will be greeted with deafening claps and whistles. And, of course, the climax of the film; it's simply jaw-dropping.

A father tries hard to fit into his son's world. While Shekhar (Shah Rukh Khan) tries every trick in the book to woo his son, his son had given up on him. Just when the father-son duo hit a deadlock, Shekhar strikes gold when he designs one hell of a game. Finally, it all starts falling in place. But the happiness is short-lived. All hell breaks loose when the game that was meant to be played with, starts playing them.

We are spoiled by cinema's ability to create on celluloid anything that can be imagined, therefore we have raconteurs making endeavors to bestow us with movies that you wouldn't have ever envisioned even in your mind's eye. You realize this as you watch RA.ONE, which is a visual spectacle from start to end.

RA.ONE is a perfect vehicle that does justice to the talent of Shah Rukh Khan. He seems to have found a story and character that work in perfect sync and tandem with manic energy. SRK steers this physically challenging lead role with high-spirited self-belief. He's endearing as the father and magnificent as the superhero with a heart. Kareena Kapoor is a delight to watch. She effortlessly glides into the character. Besides, she looks ethereal in the 'Chammak Chhallo' song and her wit is infectious. Arjun Rampal pulls his act with effortlessness and style. Also, Arjun's well-designed look is admirable.

What characterizes a stunning superhero movie? I have narrowed it down to three precise constituents that I deem are absolutely necessary for an alluring superhero flick. The first is that the motion picture must encompass spectacular action and edge-of-the-seat thrills. Secondly, a magnificent superhero movie must also boast of luminous performances from the protagonists, which in turn should make these characters appear credible and related. Thirdly and most importantly, superhero films must have a narrative that keeps us yearning for more. All of these are indispensable factors in making a superhero movie that will be both acclaimed and adored by fans. Fortunately, RA.ONE emerges triumphant in all the three departments.

As for the business prospects, RA.ONE is sure to shatter all previous records and set new ones, in India as well as internationally. The film will be the new yardstick for measuring success. It has Blockbuster written all over it!

I was a little suspicious about its maker's(A Sinha) ability in making a sci-fi thriller since his previous movie was 'cash', but i thought with Srk in the team, he would not let its recurrence. But the movie comes out to be an even bigger piece of trash.

What to say:- Full of overacting (both by SK n Karina), trying to create humor by cheap lines(which makes it unsuitable even for kids), spineless story and plot. Worst part being SK not able to understand the character of G-One and giving emotional expressions, dancing on chammak Chlo. Most of the scenes were copied from various flicks, even the first dialogs of Karina (gaaliyan) were already filmed in golmaal 3, a scene was copied from SK'd own movie 'baadshah' (tum mujhe yaha touch nahi kar sakte). SRK still believes in gay comedy scene which seems a pity.

Other bloopers are when accident occurs in the barron industry only two people (out of which one is a kid) are there to investigate. How G-one is brought out of the game none of the viewers will ever know. The movie disappoints you so much that till chammak Chlo arrives you are not in mood to enjoy it. Final verdict: Do not watch it even if you 'don't' have brains.

As far as I remember most children in India tend to pick up wrong habits at an early age? How about the character Perpendicular in Gangs of Wasseypur? He doesn't smoke? In India at least, students start jerking off since 6th grade. I think they have all the knowledge and generally forward non-veg SMS's to each other and also laugh at them? Don't children use that name "main part" at an early age? Don't children read Deadpool comics? Most children must have watched that movie which also has a crotch holding scene and similar sense of humour. Though it is rated R, children still watch by torrent hiding from their parents, right? I really don't understand what is the criticism here? Acting? Really? The only other virtual character played in the history of world cinema is in Virtuosity by Russel Crowe apart from SRK and Arjun Rampal. Isn't G.One like Neo from The Matrix only instead G.one retains powers in the real world? I don't think there is even the slightest flaw with VFX except a car being blown up in mid air? It doesn't even feel like VFX, it actually feels real it feels like this is happening for real unlike the cartoon in Krrish3, Baahubali2, Enthiraan. Ra.One's special effects have clearly inspired the character of Electro who wears a hood unlike his comic costume which is green and yellow? And the concept is ripped off in Adam Sandler's Pixels? I think it has fantastic characters, and original idea and VFX though it is reverse TRON, a little spy kids. The loud music VEERAAA is also used similarly in Baahubali 2 for goosebumps effect. Also kids are more attracted towards evil because it is powerful and seductive. So the movie has a wonderful message. I have never seen some of the unique shots during the action sequence in Azad Maidaan at the end of the movie. The concept is quite interesting owing to the real world research in fields of Internet of things, Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence. So I think it is logical to say such a technology is possible. I think the same mixture of commercial genres is used in Ghajini, Baahubali2, and most blockbuster Indian movies. So tell me dude why it is so underrated in India and has 4.8 rating on IMDb? Why are Indians hypocrites? Was the progressiveness of the characters too much to handle? Do Indians hate caricatures of South Indians and Mr. Bean himself? Do they not have a sense of humour to laugh at themselves? So what if it is a personal choice to eat noodles with curd? My friend once poured missal(Indian food) into his ice cream. Why are all the cuss-words centered towards females and their reproductive organ? Please google and find out that such thesis papers actually exist. So I really don't understand what is Indians' problem whenever SRK does something interesting and Aamir again comes up a cynical 5 star script with patriotism and social message that is bound to be successful owing to the same hypocritical Indians who would rather watch a man torture his daughters physically and turn them into sons and make them slaves to fulfill his goals?? I am really very clueless right now. I think Ra.One is still underrated and ahead of it's time for the Indian industry. It has original, wonderful characters with different powers which should be motivated and encouraged instead of overrated stuff that is making so much money. Krrish and all other Indian superheroes including Chitti look like cartoons in terms of special effects and how wonderfully Ra.One manages to make it seem all too real. It is a technical wonder. It would have been an international hit giving rise to India's own pop culture superheroes and comic books. But no, hypocritical Indians wouldn't allow it. But mediocre stuff like Baahubali2 gets such motivation. Why?

You don't like Ra.One. Big deal. I love it. It is one of the few movies including Darr, Baazigar, Don, MNIK, Asoka where you will see an amalgamation of two cultures of film making -the east and the west. We have all seen the media juggernaut and hype built up around this SRK movie from nearly half a year. From the moment I saw the first trailer, I knew this movie wouldn't try to break any new ground in terms of story telling because lets face it, nobody wants to experiment with such a huge budget riding on the movie. I expected lots of comedy and some good cgi effects. I didn't go into the theaters expecting an Iron Man and so I didn't hate the movie. Quite the contrary, I enjoyed it. Also the effort put by SRK to do something different, putting his name on the line should be highly appreciated.

Shekhar Subramaniam is a Tamilian who works as a game developer in a multinational company in London. To impress his son, he programs a game in which the villain is more powerful than the superhero and they both have artificial intelligence embedded in their programs. But due to another new technology by which the waves around us can create solid objects, the villain, Ra.One emerges out of the game with a vengeance to kill "Lucifer" aka, Shekhar's son. Along his quest in finding out who the real Lucifer is, Ra.One kills Shekhar. To save him and his mother Sonia, the superhero G.One comes out of the game and thus begins the story of Ra.One.

THE FLAWS: Lots of low-brow humor which is not in good taste, like G.One spanking Kareena, the gratuitous shots of the female anatomy (I thought this was supposed to be a family friendly affair), Ra.One saying after killing a grandma - "I hate Chinese", lots of pelvic thrusts and crotch grabbing and many others like this. Another flaw is the direction and editing which doesn't gel the story. Hell, even Rajnikanth's "Endhiran" (Robot) had a great flow to the story. The kid, Prateek (Lucifer) is just like any other sheltered rich kid. Beat the idiot and make him understand what is right or what is wrong. Don't give into his every whims and desires! I didn't like the kid's performance one bit. Somebody give him a haircut while giving him acting lessons too.

The message of good always triumphing over evil comes off as ridiculously cheesy. The actors, nor the story could convince me of this message. Many scenes in the movie reminded me of Endhiran (Robot) which is not necessarily a bad thing, but just a little nag of mine. But in terms of special effects and entertainment value, this movie is way superior to that one. We all know Kareena can act wonderfully if the script is right, but here she's reduced to nothing more than an eye-candy. That is very disappointing to the say the least (though I'm not complaining because she's gorgeous and I loved her in the song-dance sequences, and the comedy scenes). In my opinion she got over the death of her husband way too quickly. The villain Ra.One was under-utilized in my opinion. Again, these faults lies with the director.

Lots of people say G.One acquired human emotions too easily and he felt empathy when there shouldn't have been none in the first place. I have to disagree with most of you here. Ra.One and G.One had an evolving artificial intelligence which led them to have emotions and grow their personality. But the writing doesn't actually show this properly. And just because a guy wears cool dark glasses, a black jacket and looks menacing doesn't automatically make him a Terminator or Mr. Smith.

THE GOOD: This is the first of its kind in such a huge magnitude in Bollywood, lets give it some leeway. I hope it paves the way for more intelligent sci-fi/superhero movies in our industry. SRK's acting is really top-notch. He is hilarious as the Tamilian and when the time came to be a superhero, he did good. Many scenes in Shekhar's hometown were completely likable. The special effects were awesome for a Bollywood movie. You can see that they went for the Transformers-esque effect when Ra.One transforms. One more brilliant addition to the movie was the use of guest stars in Rajnikanth (with his trademark ROBOT movie dialogue). Then Sanjay Dutt and Priyanka Chopra's scene was straight out awesome in the old Hindi movie style, of the hero saving the day and getting the girl. The fight scenes, every one of them were awesome! What little screen presence Ra.One (Arjun Rampal) had, he was a force to be reckoned with.

And what can I say about the music and songs - they are PERFECT! Loved all the songs in the movie. The climax left a glimmer of hope for a possible Ra.One - Part 2. If that happens, I just hope its more intelligent, well written and Anubhav Sinha is nowhere near it. For the first step in trying to create an Indian foothold in the world movie stage which has now been dominated by Hollywood films, I have to say Ra.One is off to a solid start. It was an experimental cinema woven in commercialism and grandeur production values.

FINAL WORD: It all depends on what you expected from this movie. You just can't expect a DDLJ, nor a niche superhero movie. For what it was advertised - a sci-fi movie where the superhero has a heart of gold, this movie was quite entertaining. To each his own, you just have to watch "Ra.One" and decide for yourself. Just kick back, relax and let go, you may enjoy it.

  • Warning: Spoilers
the Ra-one its bad movie ,Was there at the premiere and was cursing myself for being there. The stars came 1 and 1/2 hour late and the restless crowd was not well managed. As for the movie, the less said the better. Only saving grace are the visual effects and Kareena. The story is so lame and the flow is worse. Has a lot of unanswered questions and flaws in the story telling. I walked out of the cinema after the interval so cannot say for the rest of it. First 45minutes was all I could withstand. The best part was the trailer for Don 2, Farhan Akhtar will do justice to SRKs talent so all the best. For this Ra.One, I am sure SRK would have recovered his cost prior to the release. Don''t expect any viewer awards though.
